there that's called a blocking pattern. you can see the high you have to. actually there's a blocking high in greenland. there's one also also in asia, but the main one here for our intent and purposes is in the pacific northwest, giving them record heat. so there's two branches of the jet stream. one goes up and over. another one comes underneath, and that's the one that's been these lows come in, and they go into southern california, arizona, new mexico and then stay right there so that this is the last, so usually the blocking pattern lasts about three weeks. this will be the end of it by the end. by the end of this week here, 25 in minneapolis to mine 20 to kansas city. i'm going to kansas city, dave kansas city that song 26 that's cold. i mean, this is october. my goodness. butte, montana 20 rapid city, bismarck, 22. that's cold. so there's why you're getting that cold surge all the way down to nashville at 36 degrees, my goodness, but the pattern will change. now we have a low to the west of la that's spinning in coming in from the south. a lot of high and mid level clouds. you can see that starting to sweep through so

we'll have mostly cloudy skies in the morning and then partly to mostly sunny in the afternoon. it will be warmer, so the higher clouds equal warmer lows. the low cloud deck looks like it's finally been wiped out here. i mean this the low cloud seasons getting along in the tooth. but boy, was it front and center for about the 1st 16 days or so napa oakland menlo park, cupertino. the arrows are all up today. 82 76 79 80 on the forecast highs after all seventies yesterday in the fifties here except petaluma at 49. there's a lot more fifties. i mean, yesterday we had forties and today it's more pacific. it 60 montara 58 so mild on the coast. 15 woodside, stanford's 51 hatherton 50 to a lot of mid fifties around foster city, san mateo, belmont, san carlos, los altos hills, 58 in the mountains fifties sixties in the valley fifties, up and down the coast until he hits southern california after about thursday , friday, then the pattern will change. we are going to see a system sweeping in for the northwest right now, it looks like it favors the sierra. okay then this will be on saturday.
4:43 am
it will do this. it'll come in and clip right there. we could get some drizzle light rain out of it more likely we'll get cloudy conditions and windy and cooler conditions. so next couple of days we're warming up and then right back down on the weekend, but if you have travel players in the mountains this weekend, i would keep an eye on things here seventies and eighties on the attempts to stay will be wednesday, still pretty warm thursday. big drop on friday into saturday, you guys all right. thank you, steve. and we do have more on those states in the midwest, now bracing for that incoming system of cold air coming up, we're going to show you how people are preparing for that early freeze and secretary of state antony blinken was here in the bay area. the vision he has for how technology is reshaping national security in a new digital error.

in san francisco. and what we're seeing all over the boards here this morning is what we've been thinking for the last few months that the team has been off seven times champions for the fourth time in just the last eight years. well tonight the warriors will celebrate that year of accomplishments before the game. they will be honored with their championship rings right in the faces of their in state rivals. some of those headlines haven't been all that great. the team still working to move past that incident between draymond green and jordan pool if you remember video given to tmz shows dream on punching pool in the middle of practice. after some sort of altercation, the warriors said they are continuing their investigation into how that video leaked. since then, draymond has apologized. he took time off in the team jordan pool said that he is moving forward with what's going on as well. head coach steve kerr says everyone now is working to focus on playing their best tonight. with the japan trip. um and, um the drama from last week. i think you know we're we'll get

there eventually. but, um you know, it's a little different. vibe and a little different sord to last year. up in preseason over the last few weeks. the lakers won that game with minutes put in by stars lebron james and anthony davis. unclear if davis will play tonight due to a lower back injury. we also saw some time from former warrior and contributor to that championship team want toscano anderson. the lakers, however, lost each of their other preseason games. so we'll have to see what they look like tonight. let's take it back alive from inside the chase center here this morning, you'll notice kind of keeping up a tradition with the warriors here at chase center shirts on the chairs, every person who shows up to the match tonight we'll get one of these t shirts. don't even bother trying to get on. it's one size fits all. so it's going to be the exact same size for anyone who gets it, and a little warriors have looked pretty good during their games

a wide range of topics, including climate change. what steps should we take to protect our communities from sea level rise and extreme heat? and so i think we have to continue to center equity. we've got a container build on just intentional community and equity driven approach, and we've got to make sure that we make those investments prevention is also extremely important. i supported and not just that, but went to the cpuc to fight for under grounding utilities and piedmont pines. another big top topic was mass transit and the best way to improve transportation. believe me. i've been told by people they stabbed using issue transfer. they stop using public transportation because they afraid so we got to go back to the basics. we have to improve our economies of scale. we have to improve our efficiency across this regional network, and that's got to be a square focus . we have to also increase ridership leadership from the city on regional issues is gonna be that's as important as anything else to make us safer to make us, uh, to create more

unified school district issued a statement saying the district is working closely with the after school provider to ensure this kind of incident does not happen again. 509 is the time back over to steve. what are you keeping an eye on steve? everything things. yeah i'm actually looking ahead to next week and the end of the month and stuff like that, because things are changing. not so much today. we still in what's called a blocking pattern. technically it's called a rex block, named after the man who founded in 1950, daniel rex. what's iraq's block while you have two distinct branches of the jet stream, and everything is locked in so one polar branch goes up here over that high. in the pacific northwest dives all the way down here and does that then you get another branch of the jet stream and a warmer one at that. this one comes underneath . so you got a low in southern california, one in arizona. now the another low these patterns last a while and we've been stuck in this pattern, but it
5:11 am
does look like it's about to break down end of this week. look at the twenties. i mean 10.21, minneapolis, 24. chicago 35 nashville, 36. these are really cool temps for october. no doubt about it, but it does look like after body about the weekend. the pattern will become more progressive, which means it continues to move. instead of being locked in or blocked. we have a little low to the west southwest. it's just taking the same path almost as the one that they had over the weekend in southern california and arizona. so it stays south, but it spins in a lot of high end mid level clouds. and that's what we have over us right now, so that's giving us warmer lows for sure. a lot more fifties. we had more forties yesterday by far but high clouds warmer lows each day. though we are bumping up these temps a little bit tomorrow will be the warmest day. but napa oakland, menlo park, cupertino. those arrows are all up, so forecast highs. 82 76 79. and 80 degrees in cupertino. fifties on most of the attempts to couple of sixties inter mainly fifties. we're running about 2 to 9 degrees warmer than 24 hours ago. did the cloud cover? still some low 50 sentence almost 50
5:12 am
degrees. middletown's 49 degrees windsor's 50 sebastopol rohnert park at 49, so there's a couple but we had low forties yesterday, now its upper forties and mainly fifties 29 out of the early thirties in the mountains, trucking, southlake town, 50 sixties in the valley and up and down the coast. so that high keeps everything locked in for another know about three days or so then big changes are on the way a system will dive in from the pacific northwest, and that's really going to change things dramatically here. i mean, it's going to clip the sierra nevada now we could get rain out of that now. that doesn't mean those forecasts. projections are right. but if you are going to the mountains or travel plans, i would keep an eye on things. i think our first really good snow of the season kicks in over the mountains. we'll probably get some drizzle or light rain out of it. but the main message right now is cloudy, windy and cooler as we go towards the weekend, so warm to hot on wednesday and still pretty warm thursday big drop big changes by the weekend. all right. thank you, steve. people in crockett will soon get a breath of fresh air still ahead, why the air is finally clearing
