like an acordian. we are getting reports that one person has been killed. nine others are being treated for minor injuries. its not known now what caused the crash. we are following this story closely and will keep you updated as we know more. traffic is flowing smoothly through the cajon pass in san bernardino county this morning. the i-15 is now open to drivers in both directions. new white barriers were installed after the old guard rails were damaged by the fire. firefighters are making progress containing the blue cut fire. right now the wildfire is 22- percent contained. so far the fire has burned through 56- square miles of land the flames are speeding through the drought- starved vegetation. california state fire officials say at least 82- thousand people were told to evacuate... but not everyone left. "we're fine this is the third time so i think we're smart in our decision to stay

a true threat." officials say only half of the 45- hundred people living in wrightwood evacuated. now, some have been told they can return to their homes. more than 15 hundred firefighters are now battling the blue cut fire. fox5's abby theodros will join us live from the firefighter's base camp in san bernardino. she will be speaking to the crews as they prepare to head out for day 4 of the fire fight. damage from the blue cut fire is stretching across the cajon pass. the historic summit inn stood right off the eye- 15 in what was once route 66... now all that's left is broken glass, ashes and some bowls. the inn served as a restaurant and a convenience store... and some say it was one of elvis presley's favorite places to visit. others call it a landmark... because of its giant red sign along the desert highway. but the blue cut fire destroyed the building and the home connected

"i saw the pictures my manager kept sending all the pictures to me my employees." "as soon as the 15 was open i drove over here and i just needed to see it by myself. i was very impacted i was a disbelief i still can't believe this happened." the manager tells fox5 the new owners are planning on rebuilding the inn. the dog that mauled a local boy to death has been neighbors say this wasn't the first time the dog attacked. "we hear someone screaming outside and we tried to seperate the pitbull and little dog." 9-year-old derion stevenson was headed to a friends house to play when police say the dog got loose and attacked him. neighbors tell us the dog had attacked other children in the past. if that's true, the

charges and a lawsuit. "we have knowledge this same dog bit another child a few weeks ago." "this is preventable, if they would have kept the dog in a safe place and secured the dog this child would be here now thats what they have to pay for civally and criminally." derion's uncle tells fox5 he would like to see the dog's owner charged in his nephew's killing. metro and animal control are investigating the dog's past to see if the owner will be charged or not. county officials say the dog was euthanized thursday morning. in more local news... if you drive in north las vegas, expect to see more patrols right up until the first day of school. police are joining forces looking for drivers who put pedestrian's lives in danger. fox 5's mike doria joins us from north las vegas with the details. a fact you may

every intersection regardless whether the pavement is marked. and the driver must always yield to the pedestrian crossing the street. for the next 10 days, police will be trying to prevent pedestrian fatalities. last night a woman was hit in the intersection of eastern and horizon ridge. she was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. earlier in the day a car hit a pedestrian near the hard rock hotel at harmon and paradise. that person was taken to sunrise hospital with life threatening injuries. the joint police forces will be out enforcing pedestrian and right of way laws and working with drivers to make sure they are sharing the road with those who walk. to help cut down on pedestrian fatalities, police say drivers should be on the lookout for pedestrians, stopping for them when they are crossing. make eye contact with pedestrians to establish a mutual understanding that one is seen by the other. slow down and look before turning right on green -- a pedestrian may be crossing.

another car stopped for pedestrians. it's against the law. last year in nevada -- 73 people died in pedestrian crashes and police say we are on track for even more this year. police also point out that most of the pedestrian fatalities happen between intersections in what's know as the mid-block. they encourage people to only cross at intersections and marked mid-block cr raising cane's is getting ready to open up it's eleventh restaurant in las vegas. so they're holding a huge job fair today and tomorrow. they are looking for energetic and ambitious people to join their team. there are more than 50 jobs up for grabs. raising cane's says anyone can apply... but they say its particularly a great job for high schoolers looking to get

helicopter crashed during a training mission at the nevada test range... late last night. fox5's peter dawson is live on las vegas blvd where the first aircraft went down. two crashes in one day, both aircraft on separate training mission and exercises. the latest crash happened last night at 10 p.m. four crew members on a training mission flying in a hh-6o

helicopter crashed at the nevada test and training range. all four members of crew were transported to a local medical facility for minor injuries. it's unknown exactly where on the test range the accident occurred and the cause of the crash is under investigation. earlier in the day a ta-4k sky hawk fighter crashed near las vegas blvd and sloan, this is right next to nellis air force base. the pilot works for draken international, an advisory company proving additional military pilots during training missions and red flag exercises. the cause of the crash is still being investigated but we know the pilot at one point ejected from the aircraft and landed in this area. he was taken to the hospital wi non life threading injuries. this area has a lot of industrial businesses and fortunately the plane crashed in a open desert area. no one on the ground was hurt and no structures were affected. the crash will be investigated by the ntsb and nellis safety organizations.

draken international says this pilot was one best and most experienced pilot in the squadron. as soon as we get updated information about all five personnel aboard these aircrafts we'll pass that along to you. a nevada judge will not allow a new trial for the death row inmate convicted of killing a u-n-r student in 2008. james biela was sentenced to death for the rape and murder of 19-year-old brianna denison.. biela's lawyers failed to prove he was denied a fair trial due to the publicity surrounding the case. he was also convicted of sexually assaulting 2 other women near campus. in national news... former n-f-l star darren sharper has been sentenced to more than 18- years in prison.. after pleading guilty to drugging women in order to rape them. the prosecution recommended only half that time.. but the judge says sharper canignore the dama he inflicted onto his victims. last year sharper attempted sexual assault here in las vegas as part of a 4-state plea

overnight. police say a man was killed while trying to cross the road. you're looking at video sent in by viewer "gabriel gomez" according to police.. the man was crossing flamingo near maryland parkway outside of a marked crosswalk. when he was hit by a passing nissan. the pedestrian died on the scene. and... a woman was hit and killed crossing the street near eastern and

night. it happened around 8 p-m. we are waiting for more information from police about how she died. a military helicopter crashed during a training mission at the nevada test range... late last night. fox5's peter dawson is live on las vegas blvd where the first aircraft went down. two crashes in one day, both aircraft on separate training mission and exercises. the latestra happened last night at 10 p.m. four crew members on a training mission flying in a hh-6o pave hawk helicopter crashed at the nevada test and training range. all four members of crew were transported to a local medical facility for minor injuries. it's unknown exactly where on the test range the accident occurred and the cause of the crash is under investigation. earlier in the day a ta-4k sky hawk fighter crashed

blvd and sloan, this is right next to nellis air force base. the pilot works for draken international, an advisory company proving additional training to military pilots during training missions and red flag exercises. the cause of the crash is still being investigated but we know the pilot at one point ejected from the aircraft and landed in this area. he was taken to the hospital with non life threading injuries. this area has a lot of industrial businesses and fortunately the plane crashed in a no one on the ground was hurt and no structures were affected. the crash will be investigated by the ntsb and nellis safety organizations. scott poteet, a spokesperson for draken international says this pilot was one best and most experienced pilot in the squadron. as soon as we get updated information about all five personnel aboard these aircrafts we'll pass that along to you. a nevada judge will not allow a
