doing this hour. or you can do what freese does and next your response. the next 30 minutes will be your session for this friday, october 28th. a lot going on including a back-and-forth between john boehner and the white house over the use of the president and executive action. plus, regis skins it off for all the world to see. mercy. love regis. the things we do for snooki, huh? that clip a little bit later in the show. not that bad, actually. before we get to the news live here in 30 rock, a world series game that's already being placed up there with the very best in history. it was a game riddled early on with little league errors and mistakes. the st. louis cardinals battled back, coming from behind to beat the texas rangers in 11 innings. the cardinals were twice down to their last strike in the game. in the ninth, hometown hero david freese, grew up in the area rooting for the cardinals hit a triple. looked like it might end the

game. drops before the wall. in the tenth, rangers took a two-run lead on a hamilton on home run, but the cardinals respond, just would not die in front of the home fans. lance berkman tying it with a two-strike single in the bottom of the 11th. then the play they'll be talking about for a long time, freese with a solo home run in the 11th inning, a walkoff to end the game, capping the impossible comeback and forcing a game seven. that's only the tip of the iceberg. over the course of that long, chilly night in st. louis, the cards came from behind five times before eventually winning it. we'll have full highlights later in sports. on to the news where global stocks jumped on news of europe's debt deal. here in the u.s., the dow rocketing 339 points yesterday, closing above the 12,000 mark for the first time in three months. the average is now on track for its best monthly point gain in history. the s&p was up 42 points, that's

3.4%. and the nasdaq up 87 points. that's up 3.3%. president obama weighed in on europe's debt deal in today's "financial times" where he wrote an op ed. he writes, "this week, our european allies made important prosecuting on a strategy to restore confidence in european markets. it is important for all of us that this strategy be implemented successfully, including building a credible fire wall that prevents the crisis from spreading. we take an early look at the markets now. for that we turn to cnbc's jeff cutmore live in london. geoff, good morning. >> willie, good morning to you. we had a strong performance in our european session as well yesterday with the continental european markets up between 5% and 6%. and you know what? we've still got some gainers on the market board early on in the european session. i'll show you how we're doing. the xetra dax still up at this

point. although the markets are finding it a lot harder to gain traction. and i'll just point out to you going into the u.s. session, we do have early futures calls looking a little weaker at the moment despite those very good gains we saw in the market yesterday. >> all right. geoff, thanks so much. and a little tension as well. french president nicolas sarkozy saying it was a mistake to allow greece into the euro zone in the first place. geoff, thanks so much. with the deadline to reach a deal on the deficit less than a month away back here in washington and one day after reports of a democratic plan, we're getting new details on a proposal from the republican members of the congressional super committee. that plan calls for $2.2 p trillion in deficit reduction including $500 billion in medicare cuts and cuts to medicaid and also a tax reform. a move one capital aide said would generate revenue. the proposal contains no tax

increases which were part of the democratic plan, but a sticking point, of course, for republicans. house speaker john boehner acknowledged the deep divisions on the committee but said the group has to work towards some realistic solution. >> i do think it's time for everybody to get serious about this. when i see our news reports of some of what was put on the table, democrats wanti ining $1 trillion worth of tax increases, this was the same number that was in the president's budget. the same number that i don't know that they found any democrats in the house and senate to vote for. so -- and i don't think it's a reasonable number. >> speaker boehner's democratic counterpart, minority leader nancy pelosi, said she's withholding any comment on the proposals until a comprehensive package is unveiled. but she did note that vitalment cuts should not be the sole focus. >> asking me about specific things until we see the whole package. it's not fair to say to a senior, you're going to pay more

for social security, and we're not going to touch a hair on the head of the wealthiest people in our country. it's not fair to say to that senior, by the way, that increased premium that you are paying is now going to be considered revenue. is now going to be considered revenue. so let's just see a package. let's not, again, exclude anything. let's just see how they come. everybody recognizes the balance that we need to have. >> meanwhile, on the jobs front, republicans are reacting to the president's newly announced executive actions which are aimed, he says, at stimulating the economy by helping homeowners and relieving student loan burdens. speaker boehner speaking out in an interview with radio host laura ingram. >> when you talk about the founding principles, you realize that article 1 gives the congress of the united states the power of the purse and that the president has powers under article 2, and this idea that

you're just going to go around the congress is just -- it's almost laughable. and so we're keeping a very close eye on the administration to make sure that they are following the law and following the constitution. >> speaker boehner went on to say that if committees determine president obama is operating outside his authority with these executive actions, congress will limit the white house's use of funds in order to, quote, bring this administration to heel. white house press secretary jay carney rebuffed boehner's remarks. >> the president is operating well within the bounds of his authority. and in a way that is consistent with the kinds of executive actions that presidents have taken in previous administrations, presidents of both parties. i would respectfully suggest to the speaker that perhaps he should and the house should focus on what the american people are insisting that washington, in general, focus on, which is the need to grow the economy and create jobs. >> the house incidentally passed a portion of the president's jobs bill, eliminating a tax

withholding program that has yet to be implemented. iraq war vet scott olsen hospitalized with a reported two-inch skull fracture after he was struck in the head by an unknown flying object during tuesday night's occupy open protest has now been medically upgraded from critical to fair condition. great news there. according to a hospital spokesperson, olsen is now aware of his surroundings but has some difficulty speaking. protesters believe olsen was wounded by a canister of tear gas fired by riot police. police have not yet confirmed that. olsen's injury has become the signature moment of the occupy wall street movement as thousands rallied around the 24-year-old in candlelight vigils yesterday throughout the country. oakland mayor gene kwan attempted to speak to a crowd last night. but demonstrators would not let her get a word in, booing her, telling her to go home. kwan was forced back inside town hall where she recorded her

statement to the protesters. >> i wanted to say to you tonight is how deeply saddened i am about the outcome on tuesday. it's not what anyone hoped for. i understand it's my responsibility. and i want to apologize to everyone about what happened. >> the address made from inside city hall. also last night, occupy oakland demonstrators began organizing a citywide strike scheduled for next wednesday. one protester calling it a natural progression following tuesday's crackdown by police. the united nations security council unanimously voting to end its military intervention in libya yesterday as nato officials will meet later today, expected to officially declare an end to their libyan operations this coming monday. the nato secretary-general has not ruled out a future role in libya, saying, quote, if requested, we can assist the new libyan government in the transformation of democracy. the last of moammar gadhafi's eight children still at large.

halloween. morning, everyone. this forecast, yesterday we were thinking it was a possibility. you know, it's october. it's probably not really going to happen. nothing has changed. our computers are still saying it's going to happen. now it's getting closer and closer. we're starting to have to believe them. and winter storm watches are up from coastal man maine back down through the catskills, poconos, northern jersey, central pa and even areas outside washington from hagerstown, mar mayland. this is one of the computers i tend to believe the most. these are the actual snowfall predictions for these selected cities. portland, eight inches. manchester, new hampshire, nine. springfield and hartford, six. poughkeepsie area, possibly six to nine inches of snow. notice the purple shading northern jersey, shorn new york from the poconos, that's saying a possibility of a foot of snow in that area. i think that's a little too high and exaggerated. because it's october, temperatures are going to be borderline. we're going to get rain first. the ground temperatures are still pretty warm.

my forecast is for the cities, we're talking d.c., baltimore, philly and new york, slushy to an inch. maybe at worst an inch or two on the trees. the suburbs anywhere from i-95 north and west one to three inches is definitely a possibility. i still think your roads no worse than slushy. up in the hills, three to six inches. i'm worried about trees coming down. you still have leaves on the trees. then if you're up in the mountains, a possibility of 6 to 12, that's where you'll need the plows and shovels, catskills and poconos. let me time it out for you. everything is fine today. it's a cold morning. windchills in the 20s. but as the timing of the storm goes, it's not until saturday afternoon that we see the snow start coming down outside in the mountains of the appalachians up through west virginia. then it's saturday night that the worst of it is in southern new england. there's today. chilly rain in the southeast. the rain and snow comes up through new england. it's amazing, temperatures will be warmer in the morning and then colder as the day goes on. rain to snow in many areas.

the good news is, willie, by sunday, all said and done. halloween looks great around the country. temperatures on halloween could be in the 50s, maybe low 60s. a lot of that snow will be gone. >> no new snow, maybe a little remnant. >> good thing we did the pumpkins last weekend. >> i did. got lost in the corn maze. now for sports. game six of the world series. we gave you a little taste of it earlier in the show. now the full highlights. cards with their backs against the wall. and it looked for all the world like it was going to be over. but if you stayed up late enough, you caught one of the great endings in the history of the world series. in the first in, texas jumps out to a one-run lead. but in the bottom, lance berkman gets the crowd going, puts the cards up 2-1. but a couple errors allowed the rangers to get back into it. in the fourth, this is just terrible. matt holliday has to call off rafael furcal. he doesn't. miscommunication. and the next batter makes him pay.

mike napoli, what a series he's had, roping one down the right field line, just fair. nelson cruz comes around to score. it's 3-2, texas. the cards tied it up in the bottom of the fourth. then in the fifth, more errors. remember this play. david freese, the third baseman, drops the routine pop-up. what is going on out there? that led to another run and another rangers' lead. costly errors all night for the cardinals. and a couple for texas, by the way. in the sikh, cards even the score at 4-4. st. louis has an opportunity to blow it up. but on an 0-1 pitch, mike napoli throws a rifle shot to third. they catch holliday sneaking down the line, snap throw. the ump calls him out. nice block. adrian beltre's foot blocking holliday's hand from touching the bag. holliday actually hurt his finger on the play, had to leave the game. the rangers got out of the jam. then in the bottom of the 11th winning, we're going to jump ahead here, no one on. no one out. david freese again at the plate.

there had already been heroics in the ninth inning. freese who was raised in a suburb outside st. louis grew up rooting for the cardinals as a kid lives out his boyhood dream in the bottom of the 11th in the world series. >> freese hits it in the air to center. we will see you tomorrow night! >> a walkoff home run for david freese. remember, he made that error at third base. joe buck, the announcer there, by the way, channeling his father, the great jack buck, who in game six of the 1991 world series, almost 20 years to the day, said, we'll see you tomorrow night. it just flowed off the tongue last night for joe buck as well. freese's solo home run on a 3-2 pitch, 47,000 cardinal fans screaming. cardinals tear the shirt off freese's back at the plate. just the third time the team had been one out from elimination in the world series has come back to win the game. freese becomes the first player in world series history to have

a pair of tying or go-ahead hits. remember, he had the one in the ninth inning. and then this one in the 11th. after the game, he spoke about that incredible moment. >> man, that was incredible. i'm just glad i had a chance after looking like an idiot on that pop-up. but we fought back, you know. we made some mistakes early on. i mean, the way the cardinals, and we've all been playing lately, you know, you expect to come back like this. this is a good feeling. >> and they are playing tonight. a picture tweeted out by major league baseball public relations shows freese's jersey torn to shreds. and they say it will be sent to the hall of fame. in the post-game press conference, freese spoke what it was like being a hometown hero. >> growing up or whatever, and you see stuff like that happen, you know, those become memories. you know, i've said it time and time again as far as being a part of this comeback, but it
