she says that brussels only cares about propping up the idea of the e.u. however much the budget grows and her interview is coming up next few months. i. i. i'm talking to marta address and he's now a member of the european parliament for the u.k. independence party but she was formally the european commission's chief accountant while she was in that job she raised concerns about flaws in the commission's accounting system which she said left it vulnerable to fraud not transgress and thanks for talking to us today now were you a euro skeptic when you joined the commission as chief accountant no i was not a euro skeptic in fact i thought you were a project was a project of cooperation i thought they were sharing so lucian's among the different member states so i was quite owners to be able to be part of the
european union and also or to be part of our minister to reform that they were undergoing what happened or what did you find out to make you change your mind when i found out that they had no control on the payments they were making out of the european union budget basically you know they didn't ask if people qualified to get the funding from the european union and i was responsible for the signature of the space. so i had the highest responsibility and i thought i needed to know if i was playing to the right person and for the right purpose and they just didn't care and they didn't allow me to make change use to be able to determine if we were making the right pane so what does what does that all mean well this means that you funding is going to people who do not qualify for these who do not need the funding
and who use it for other purposes and this is very dangerous because you know there are many other purposes for which the money can be used. and when they raise the money from the peon taxpayers they are short of saying this is going to be used for certain. purposes and certain extent they are lying to the unity of the expat i thought i was working on behalf of the european taxpayer and my obligation was to make sure the payments were correct others didn't see it like that they did that in fact you were fired for blowing the whistle do you think anything's changed since i don't think anything has changed i now see it in the budgetary control committee so all the committee in the parliament that oversee the payments out of the budget and i see it in the budget committee that the committee
that oversees the planning of the budget and in both committees i can see that they have no respect for european taxpayers' money and i don't see that fundamental changes that they shouldn't have taken plex you know once anybody who makes up payments in normal or. take care that the payments would ask the question what does this pain mean and what is the purpose and this questions are not asked why they can reach the solution is to blame the member states only gave the money to the u.k. so you craig who is committing the irregularities well yes but you paid the money out that you are the proper questions they dealt so for me nothing has changed a lot of window dressing but nothing i know you suggesting that the commission is being defrauded and if so who by. well it's being the products to
a certain extent in. talking about fraud it's always very problematic because obviously you have to prove it and it's very difficult to prove fraud in places where you don't have adequate systems to control ok that is know all the tray so it's very difficult to prove it but you know there are beneficiaries who are getting the money without being qualified to get the money that is the essence of the situation do you think brussels is capable of reform is there a will to tighten practices like that up you know i don't think that it's any will to tighten this practices because they have a different agenda they want to promote the european union project and to promote this project they're going to be able to give the money to the people who will support the project not the people who really care about their lives. in a proper way not the people who are going to use this funding to grow the economy of
a certain member state but the people who will promote the european union project how deeply entrenched do you think vested interests are in brussels where the real power play is well from my experience in the commission fundamentally but also now that i'm in the parliament a powerful people in the you are the directors general in the european commission the european commission has different directorates with different substantive issues you have environmental kaname in agriculture and this director generals are the ones who hold the power you know the commissioners come and go every five years but this director general normally have been there for decades and they hold the power they know who they need to give the funding to get the support where in times of austerity at the moment and members all. across europe are cutting their state
spending is there any sign that brussels is doing the same you know absolutely you know last night we spent six hours approving in the budget committee the two thousand and twelve budget. and they have they are asking for a over four percent increase i was even asking for the creases but fundamentally saying we should at least reduce the allowances for the emmy please and they don't want to use them i mean i think we should show the example and the every piece themselves don't want any without action and the council of ministers had decided they wouldn't give more than a two percent increase and here the parliament goes back and say no we want more than four percent so i don't think there is no will and i am a lonely voice really in the parliament in what we first reduction of the budget
and ultimately it's your goal to as it were destroy the system from within ultimately my role or my goal is to make people in the u.k. but also around the rest of you know the truth about the european union you know the truth about how their money is being spent this is my job and then it's up to people to react to this new information or to this information and it's not been for some people you know we are now in the middle of a crisis and people think well the your budget has nothing to do with price but i will give you an example greeks was brought into the european into the euro zone when they didn't qualify to get into now people say greece live well maybe in that account but. european commission has asked that this ticks off its uterus that
who should have challenged the figures and they didn't challenge that side. ten years later they realize something is wrong but they are there they have one thousand people working in euro stat to analyze the figures they should have come. another thing the budget was used to grow the economy of all these countries that came into the universal griefs got sixty billion pounds in the last twenty years out of the european union budget the question is were they had the money to go because the greek economy has not grown so where did the money grow william hague the u.k.'s foreign secretary says that the e.u. budget is now under control is that the truth and i think it's not the truth i have challenge. speech because he doesn't know. he thinks it's under control because he's asking for friess in the budget but why he
was talking about the freeze there was somebody in the budget committee was trying to vote in favor of an increase of four percent so it's not under control and also. you know with or know exactly where the money school is and i think we should know it's visible for everybody you know as i told you why is it that greece hasn't run its economy italy spain portugal what is what are all the structural reforms that we have been paying for the last take. so no it's not on that point members of parliament here in the u.k. now look set to hold a debate on whether there should be a referendum on britain's membership of the european union do you think person is hooks on the e.u. despite talking about wanting to leave. while i think that the government might be hooked to the european union i don't think that the country as a whole is called to the er i think. they go to the european union
and negotiate another type of relationship when there are people who are very critical about what would happen how would we trade. the u.k. trade they don't exist before the european union try think it could go back to the days. they u.k. it's one of the biggest importers from the european union so forty two percent of a imports come from the european union so i think the u.k. seen a very solid decision. and i think it would be healthy not only for the u.k. but for the rest of the member states because it would force i renamed association of the european union and all the trade agreements that we have i don't see of course this doesn't happen in twenty four hours i mean of course now we have seventy percent of the legislation coming from the you of course it would be
interim period or the u.k. would have to develop new legislation of its own i mean of course it doesn't happen in twenty four hours but we first have to make the decision to leave and then. start the process euro zone countries are staring down the barrel of a gun basically about what e.u. grandees are talking about is in forcing more fiscal union in the face of economic collapse which seems like a desperate measure who stands to gain the most from keeping europe together i think the. directors generally bureaucracy in brussels who stands to gain this there's people who have been pushing the project all along and they want this european union where they will hold the power over all the member states and finally as a euro skeptic do you feel anywhere vindicated by what's going on in the euro zone at the moment. sadly yes i feel vindicated because you know if people had cards
stories this hour on all to ukraine's prime minister is sentenced to seven years in jail for abuse of power when signing gas contracts with russia. clashes between. supporters and police. going east moscow and beijing boost cooperation as china becomes the first country vladimir putin visits after declaring people run for the presidency next year. and america's call for protests in boston meet a fierce response from the police who reportedly. taking part in a peaceful. for the full coverage of our top stories in just over fifteen minutes away with me here in the meantime the latest. hello and welcome to the sports update on this crunch night of european football
and here are the headlines keeping called pledge to get the card just caution as russia host and or this tuesday night at a place at the european championships at stake. while on the very guest peter general secretary jerome valcke of visits moscow as russia announces more plans for the twenty eighteen world cup. and mixed fortunes for the masters andy roddick soldiers on that mardy fish is no match for the not to make in shanghai. but first a full on group the leaders russian made just a point against minnows and or in moscow this cheese day night to secure a place and next summer's european championships but it's russia coach dick advocaat has warned his players their opponents could use sporting tactics and has urged his side to keep their heads at the luzhniki arena which of empathy reports. going into their final qualification group game russia find themselves in excellent position to be top their poll by two points and the remaining fixture is against andorra a team ranked at the very bottom of the fever rankings alongside the likes of
american samoa among surats russia a massive favorites to claim all three points even both draw woods far it's an advocate said it's built to qualify playing good football we've tried to play the best thing work you can do. well organized. think the team is doing well long a little bit more better than the other one but still. the team is playing attractive football the dutchman does have a few selection concerns constantine's to be on over another example a new call for both foreign suspended after picking up yellow cards in slovakia lost time outs for your issue of call has lost his battle to be fit after picking up a knock until enough. undergo a thorough is ok and he's likely to retain his starting spot while some of the fringe players may be given a chance in the first eleven however uppercuts biggest concern is how he and dorrans may try to use less fanfare means to stop his team results to those
opposing to more of a favor to do with yellow cards because this is quite irritating to play realize as well in. what they're doing. they don't want to blow for. the. one man who will know more than a thing or two about i'm doris tactics as andrea sharpe in percent all four years ago at the same as russia just about qualified to euro two thousand and eight and missed the first two games of the tournament due to his red card and i'm just warning his players not to react to be antics are very opponents i'm injured as a world to the players and the so we have to blow through discipline because this is the way we like to play for it. and we have to prepare for that it's been a very good qualifying campaign for the russians have dominated every one of their
nine games so far that they played in the group and they'll be looking to put their ticket to poland ukraine in style russia when touching distance of next year's european championships was standing in their way of reaching poland and ukraine are under unsigned but have only won one competitive match in their history what we got back outside all business start as massive favorites and of russia play to anything like their full potential and they should have absolutely no problems whatsoever in picking up all three points richard pombo played r.t. . well rusher on the other side he can make it steer the tournament from group b. second place island will take on third place armenia in dublin with both sides aiming to keep their european championship dreams alive the irish need after points to confirm a second spot and a play off place but will be that their captain robbie keane the striker suffered a thigh injury during friday's two no win over on dora west brom's simon cox will take place up front while shay given will take the captain's armband and the goalkeepers are fully aware of the dangers of playing armenia who can selves could
grab second spot with a victory at the ivy the stadium their own home parks was we could have the belief that we can go on and beat them and i know they'll be calm and think in the same but. you know it's a chance for us to you know center on which which is all you can ask for in the last game really and we've got to go in there and do the business and armenia had a taste of the of the best stadium with a training session on monday the eastern european side last one millette home to ireland in the opening round of last year's european qualifiers but since that defeats they've only been beaten one see eight matches during this campaign and have won their last three games scoring eleven times in the process and conceding just once so they're brimming with confidence but are also for the first checked the irish. team but those who we believe we can win because. it's important to those three points. but you know their understanding.
and this is how the group we currently looks just a draw for russia would ensure they automatically qualify for next summer's european championships and also a point for island would mean they finished second to get into a two legged playoff. general secretary jerome valcke a has been on a visit to russia to check on the host nation's progress for the twenty eighteen world cup it might be just under seven years until the competition fix off there is just one year to go into russia must name the eleven cities and twelve stadiums which will host football's biggest tournament and the country sports minister is confident about russia's preparations so far. russia was given the right to host the world cup we've had a little meetings and consultations with the far. budgeting branding and other important issues during the world cup it's quite basic a world cup you need all cities we stadiums public transport or. local
transport i would say national domestic transport between the cities that. you have to ensure that all these different group of people the media the officials the players and the fans they can enjoy the country during the period of the world cup . ted has now admitted to us enough is lined up a meeting with second seed andy murray in the second round of the shanghai masters in the russians hard forward opening with last year's winner in tokyo maret received a volley into the second round personal caught to make it the hard way from a set down to knock out brazil. or to ask for forty five minutes on court. andy roddick a straight a round three but the ten seeded american have to battle bots not break down and save a set point in the second set for breaking a goal there is people going to love close ups the tight match seven six seven five six up to him displaying the last. and america's top man marty fish was also sent
packing with the state's drawing away a one set lead in three sets to australia up and come up an hour's time in their six six one six four way tended to second top ten spots the title at least ten of a shy of ten teams most of the world in so doing during his three runs the quarterfinals at wimbledon. hall format while number three david nalbandian went crashing out to florian my in straight sets the german number fifteen seed converted the first of its three match points is not in line to see rafael nadal. and finally russian mixed martial arts supreme. is preparing to face one of his biggest challenges the last emperor goes up against american jeff monson in moscow on the them but the twentieth and sees the fight as a chance to revive his career with onion reports.
never stand the words of the men from here don't we need the mixed martial arts heavyweight division through decade that changed last year we did a million good stuff or you were actually did you do twenty two i. think. brazil and for brazil were doomed forcing the russians to step out of that in essence kick started a downward spiral on the canvas mississippi losses janklow new zealand and dan anderson. pretend to be an option it's thirty five year old but you know any good claims he's properly jumped and was just thrown back so when the three bouts my last. little wind somehow eluded me i felt i could do it i had chances but goals will was different. to get back to winning ways will be unique one
brother said to take a walk for the first in a brawl mixed martial arts clash in moscow jeff monson the man who stands between hayne and with dempsey on the bamboo twenty four year old morrison is due to the world submission listening jampacked to get his nickname snowman from his brazilian jiu-jitsu counterparts as a sign of respect for his high school demeanor and the pressure for the as a legend. you know i've said a long time ago he's the best heavyweight of all time and. to have the privilege to fight him is an honor and but i'm going to train hard and and you know i only take fights i expect to win so i expect to win but i think it's going to be very difficult challenge those sentiments echoed earlier the police less supplied than the launch of an entire career. still it seems has been left unturned in the build up but i'm going to get a little further we'll have
a great training camp of the netherlands with both strong wrestlers and standup fighters there i'm going to invite vin get my gun yeah yourself we just won the world submission resting championships and beat no less than for presale return in the finals so he can be considered the world's best wrestler at the moment there are no end of fans looking forward to seeing the other. rise again but the mention self is remaining composed as usual hype but it's just no date and dampers all this the most a victory but what will be at stake for me in this march on global fight for it's. his greatness is beyond question his legacy secure no one suspects but there himself beliefs and when extend out he's the only alternative robert but in your own party. that's what i think.
