welcome to our international twenty four hour news live from moscow my name is you our thanks for joining us. there's been a fresh spike of violence in the eastern ukrainian city of slavyansk where we're seeing reports of army helicopters opening fire on the city earlier local self-defense forces said two people were killed and four injured with civilians among them as ukrainian forces attacked overnight. there were around hundred thousand people is one of the main targets of caves military operations in the region it's residential areas have come under fire several times this week with shells hitting houses and even a school and a kindergarten many locals are leaving the city or at least seeking to send away their children hundreds or evacuated to crimea and will be housed in the summer camps. following the situation in the region for us in the last two days more and
8:02 am
more civilians have found themselves in the line of fire there was a children's hospital that was shelled a number of residential buildings have been attacked at the same time there was a school and a kindergarten that came under fire locals tell us on friday there was a lull in fighting presumably this was to coincide with the fact that it was the last day of school but what people on the ground are telling us is that overnight shelling in the eastern ukrainian town of slovyansk resumed now at least two hundred children have been evacuated from the town to the resort of crimea this was a journey that was not without its hic cups but what we do understand is that the children are now safely in crimea of course they had to face the hardiest journey of unsafe roads this was not the only problem there was also the question of alerting the ukrainian authorities that there were buses with children making their way through this territory we did manage to catch up with a few of the children and this is what they told us look in the new york city often

comes under mortar showing people go hard as a result. of the signs on your wall that my grandfather's leg even pierced the bomb it went a little deeper it could hit an artery. just. we just saw unusually calm and quiet here no explosions going off as compared to what we left and. larry nobody expected the scenes like that to start happening in our small town there was no themis for anything that might blow it is that our snipers that i was very scared there were explosions my dead just celebrated his birthday and he was rukun by the sound of shelling that day i'm really glad i'm here now it's calm here and to protect it as the violence seemingly spirals out of control more and more innocent people are being hurt and even killed so many people here on the ground expect that the violence we've witnessed over the past few days is just a taste of what's to come. there are also reports that another group of around

three hundred children may be evacuated from other safer towns in the region this is racial way youngsters are at constant risk of being caught in the crossfire has triggered an online campaign now as you can see here the harsh target save don't buy children it's spreading on local social media with many joining the online action calling for a stop to the militia operation in eastern ukraine however ukrainian news outlets are accusing local militia of using children as human shields and staging provocations for an expert foreign affairs expert any boy some knowledge believes the claims are illogical. it's propaganda it strikes me as very ham fisted and frankly absurd if the people in slovyansk wanted to really make a propaganda bit out of it deal would have tried to keep the civilians in emphasize their suffering to the world media it's more much more likely that they're just trying to get the children away so that the don't fall victim to the indiscriminate

shelling by the government forces if you look at the record of the of these people and how they've essentially defied. the oligarchy armed forces with their bare hands initially and peacefully until they had no other option but to fight i seriously think this is a spurious and secure this allegation. and observers from the organization for security and cooperation in europe the war detained by self-defense forces in the lugansk region say they're safe and being treated well have to answer them on the ass as well as to follow minute by minute updates on the developing situation in the country. thousands of afghans who have been working with american forces are now settling in the u.s. among them is the money has been labeled afghanistan store train cheve another is

the brother of the outgoing president hamid karzai who ran as a current of that in april presidential elections despite spending most of his time in america while he's going there to chicago to report. we're standing next to a restaurant that belongs to humming birds i'd rather you are so i guess at least for here in baltimore maryland this was his first karzai first came to us forty years ago and since then he had his one foot here the other in afghanistan when the u.s. brought his brother to power you got to stay where you are safe became fully involved in afghan politics even ran for president then he withdrew his nomination and came here. karzai is not the only afghan leader who kept a foot in another world haji gulag michael ran afghan intelligence services detention and interrogation branch is now in bigger ways he's referred to as the torture in chief human life with poise documented widespread portrait now they do this at the facility that he ran when the u.s.
8:07 am
went into afghanistan the cia would put him to help seize on the heart then as head of interrogation he took care of so to speak thousands of prisoners captured by u.s. forces a senior afghan official told the washington post that full on life use this position that all bible supports and in which his business families were routinely forced to pay ransom but they would be so this man was allowed entry into the united states and now found home on the outskirts of los angeles entry situation in the united states is one hundred percent political in the politics is not did you commit human rights abuse uses did you commit torture the real political criteria is did you serve in function as a proxy for the united states and those who committed great criminal acts at the very moment that the u.s. and its foreign policy is guided by freedom and democracy and the and the end of human rights abuses the same people come to the united states with the support of the u.s. intelligence agencies they're set up comfortably they're given access to markets
8:08 am
and credit they live quite well about three thousand afghans who had worked with u.s. forces in different capacities are now here in the way and thousands more are seeking to leave again before u.s. troops pull out involved. more i'm going to check a party. as problems with higher education boil over in chile one also has test found a simple way of freeing students from huge university debt. and that some say he managed to get hold of the official paperwork five hundred million dollars and turns them to ashes we'll be hearing from the man himself later in the program about what it was he was driving him. japan's prime minister has pledged his country's support to southeast asian nations in their disputes with china. japan will help the countries in the region control their borders and keep their sea and air routes open and according to the prime minister it's no longer possible for any country to secure its safety on its own
8:09 am
indeed just last month washington talk here in a cave territorial dispute with beijing and the largest u.s. naval fleet is currently docked in japan and finally the prime minister condemned any effort to destabilize the status quo in the region and let's now have a look at what's at stake here now the area with the doctor the red lining here sharyn here actually is what beijing deems to be if historic heritage this is belied basically states like vietnam brunei malays and the philippines are pushing their weight around trying to secure resources in the south china sea in fact indonesia and the philippines have been upgrading their defense forces to counter any external risks and political blogger that reinsdorf some things japan's involvement is not about working toward stability but rather about selling more. where he sold it to the public was to bolster security for smaller states such as vietnam and the philippines but israel concerns are not to help them with their own

border disputes when you really look at it it's all about weapons sales and arms shipments they already shipped ten patrol ships so you promise. so the filthies three have been delivered and they're sending more to vietnam and also to indonesia . and his party and the unity party under it have been talking about amending the constitution of japan article nine which already has been ignored greatly because japan's defense force is definitely in militaries the sixth largest military expenditure in the world they have a huge navy huge air force but they have been prevented from selling our immense and joining in conflicts such as in afghanistan or iraq for the u.s. they can sell patrol ships and coast guard type vessels but not what he really wants to sell and that's real agenda in article nine which i think would be a disaster the u.s. supports the japanese in this unquestionably even if the japan might be right about
8:11 am
some of this island disputes that's not in the u.s. his interest to u.s. interests is the cell remains and to contain china any cost nobody would anticipate an actual war between japan and china that would be insane but these things never happen on purpose all it will take is one x. and you could have a much greater conflict. coming up later announcing to national. see only black light at the time he won't see the light. of a great government maybe celebration of economic prions but the country's next generation don't share its optimism and its soaring unemployment after the break. dramas that can't be ignored. stories others refuse

8:13 am
you're watching also international good to have you with us let's move on now chilean students have been marching in the streets demanding free public university education for over three years now but despite a new president coming to power in march promising to make education reform a top priority little has changed so far and they sure has come into the spotlight again it was simply after a thirty one year old artist turned student debts into one of his pieces by setting university tuition contracts on fire so francisco tapia has released an online confession of the missing historical student debt paperwork worth five hundred million dollars and burned that makes it possible for students to get away without paying a single pass so the ashes from the documents have since been turned into an all out installation and that we caught up with the artist himself who told us about
8:14 am
his initiative. i decided to burn the dead papers when i realized that tuition contracts were a bargaining chip between creditors and the universities direction i got rid of these papers to demonstrate how fragile the system is i wanted to show how one paper could ruin a life for instance many of the students were single mothers they went to study to provide their children with a better life but at the same time were deprived of the opportunity to see them grow to properly look after them and just one paper can whittle down all their efforts if you don't pay the bill your kitchen your stove or even your bed would be taken away this project exposes the flaws of the capitalist system where these injustices can exist i admitted burning the papers as the act started backlashing on some of the students so i took the responsibility to make sure they are protected. and private chain is central coast has been closed down as part of
8:15 am
a government investigation into its financial operations and left students there unable to finish their studies and subtle with heavy debts investigators said the university was more than many known during operation and education facility but one former student told us it's not just the university but also the government that failed them. students are ready to go into debt to get a degree but the system itself isn't for students to get an education paying it jewish and contract can't escape the system cruzan pull to pay for five years of studies it usually takes a person almost fifteen years because of this credit system it's ok if this money went back to the university so it can grow and develop but instead they started stealing the money when the government stepped in to solutions were on the table to find the universe is equal to close it down and they chose to close it it happened because business for the government in chile is more important for cheese don't care that some twenty two thousand people now can't get an education and on top of
8:16 am
that these students also lost the money they paid to get a degree and own life a right now as they should all the treatment of women in saudi arabia continues to outrage the international community or saudi princess is kept in isolation by their father king abdullah without food and have little access to water for sixty days now we got a detailed report of their plight just a click away on our website. and also it seems people's objections i mean it's one up against the promise of riches that as the california senate i'll close a moratorium on fracking more what's helping the controversial industry step float despite a wide public condemnation on r.c. dot com. your friend post a photo from a vacation you can't afford college is different. the boss repeats the same old joke of course you like. your ex-girlfriend still paints

8:18 am
the tire you won't see the light i'm so miserable there are many times when you disappointed and you give up you reach a stage of disparate when you can't figure out what the point of your existences youth unemployment increased to fifty seven percent in february this year so in a way these girls who are in the work are quite lucky to have an income at all but going on thirty and living with mom and dad is not what they had imagined it can go out i can buy my own car. car i can just wake up one day i have a week off work so i can take the plane and go for example to london where most sister lives in your freezer three times if you look you're losing your dignity and you're good for nothing but things are looking up according to the government they're celebrating the economy's improvements in the first quarter and the european commission expects the unemployment rate to turn a corner and that's the year the problem is that after years of austerity no one's buying their statistics anymore texas continue to rise so risk into you could drop
8:19 am
into stere to measures are still in place this girl never actually found a job so she created a company with her friends when i asked her what she would do if that venture fails she admits that there's not much else left. i do have many options haven't thought of leaving the country but if i have to i will many of my friends have done that and found jobs greeks are very patriotic so the last thing they want to do is leave but they can't help but notice that the grass is much greener on the other side when they see my friends who who have gone to foreign countries do the two you do you are basically. their salaries are so big they are very satisfied with their level of life and they always ask me why don't you come in then i feel depressed struggle at home or move abroad these seem to be the only two options for youngsters in greece even those with jobs which makes you wonder how
8:20 am
the rest are surviving merino of course are of our reporting forty from greece. the whistle blowing fugitive i don't snowden's first interview where she gave to us t.v. channel is still grabbing the attention of the global media but she is a very and has found a key part that was essentially hidden from the public either portrayed in the set to find out all. this is a key question that the nine eleven commission considered and what they found in the post-mortem when they looked at all of the classified intelligence from all of the different intelligence agencies they found that we had all of the information we needed as an intelligence community as a classified sector as the national defense of the united states to detect this plot we actually had records of the phone calls from the united states and now there was no need to expand any state intelligence program after nine eleven
8:21 am
because the information was readily be readily available to stop the attacks but don't let that stark reality get in the way of the government's desperate justification for spending hundreds of billions of dollars and taking away our civil liberties all in the name of stopping terrorism. and brave a roundup of other world news making headlines across the globe a roadside bomb has killed at least twelve civilians in eastern afghanistan most of the victims were women they were returning from a wedding ceremony when their vehicle was hit by a homemade bomb improvised explosive devices killed some nine hundred civilians in the country last year alone. hundreds of protesters across brazil have shown their red card to the football body

angry at the massive cost of the upcoming world cup i love the group of striking teachers also took part in some paolo demonstrators took over a metro station they say of eleven billion euros the government says it expects to spend over the event would be better put towards improving public. the turkish prime minister has warned protesters not to hold rallies on the stand over the start of massive protest over individual and press freedoms. security has been boosted in istanbul with styles of police officers and dozens of water cannons deployed last year protests broke out across turkey after officers brutally broke out a demonstration against real redevelopment of a park in the city four people were killed and thousands injured during the running clashes with police. and washington has admitted a us citizen that was responsible for a suicide bombing in syria last week believed to be the first time an american has carried out such a long time in the country it was one of four bombings that killed dozens of

soldiers in the northern town of live last sunday washington has also said it's concerned about big why would a number of westerners going to fight a cigarette many of them european. liza intellectuals and have gathered in new york for specialist left formed socialist rather left for a conference to share ideas on ways to transform the world the gap between the rich and poor visions for a better society and back in corporate greed were picked over as soon as the citric enough found out. every summer the left forum gets together in new york city a gathering where thousands of participants and hundreds of speakers engage in panels and debates throughout the weekend the goal is to address the most burning social economic and political topics that need to be tackled in modern day society this year and the theme of the left forum is reform and or revolution which pretty much speaks for itself we have high profile activist intellectuals and academics
8:24 am
come together to try to gauge ways for society primarily in the west but really throughout the rest of the world to move forward in this seven year after an economic crisis well the question of reform or revolution is a crucial question because it's like what will it take to end the horrors reform will get to this sad maybe tweaked a little bit maybe transformed a little bit maybe even made worse because if you limit yourself to reforms you're never going to get out of the system that causes all of this for they see the so-called economic recovery only benefited the lucky few while the majority of the population throughout the world continues to struggle of the wealth gap continues growing whereas before asians and big businesses keep striving so the key question being addressed here is how to solve the existing situation to serve the ninety nine percent instead of the one percent and what kind of new system to build and how to do it moving forward through reform or revolution or both so these are the
8:25 am
questions being discussed as well as what kind of movements and institutions really need to be created to build a better future today while love for distance here agree that a different world is needed analyzing a strategy of how to get there is what brings them all together at the left forum here in new york city this year as well as every year especially churkin out markstein me. and up next and also international markets kaiser stays i haven't discussed how banks does should be punished for financial crimes but if you are in the u.k. say train full speed. nicholas kulish. why do candidates you smear tactics to get in office because it works if all that mattered about a candidate were their positions they would just hand out piece of paper with the
8:26 am
guys position for them but that's not how it works people make choices based on emotions whether they are buying a can of pop or selecting their candidate it's the packaging that counts heck obama won at ages marketer of the year for one of his campaigns yet image is everything but in texas one hopeful for the lieutenant governor's chair has used arrivals of medical records against him the incumbent david do hearst has been able to use the medical records which were released by another candidate who dropped out to make his opponent look crazy because he was at a psychiatric hospital twice with around the clock observation for severe depression now is it ok to use this info in a campaign maybe the public should know if someone is crazy legally is probably ok and yet works but is hypocritical all of us are guilty of something and if you take our worst moments as a person then you can make anyone look evil this is the tactic of the week with nothing to offer the public so they hide behind slander they just want the position of power and nothing more but that's just my opinion.

sometimes for nothing which. is so mean and simple. it's not just the story kids will be just if you see a stage eight of the t.v. sets which was featured on the set of. the monstrous. max keiser welcome to the kaiser report hey it's all systems fail because of too big to jail max well the big headline this week for me i put in a tweet and it says jailing bankers for market manipulation will not be enough to
8:30 am
curb future misbehavior mark carney and this is from a headline from the telegraph which read jailing bankers will not fix bad behavior says mark carney so he says there's nothing they can do one tweet response i think to set up the story here is hope and wins responded to me and said hang them then right now when mark carney says that jailing bankers is not enough to get them to you know change their behavior i think what he's saying is that the jailing is not enough of a deterrent obviously jailing or minor fines minor jail terms of not been a deterrent so in iran they take they hang the banks are in china they hang the banks years and this is proven to be a deterrent and you know in america there's capital punishment ok the state can kill people for crimes why not use it to go after the financial terrorists obama says he's against terrorism ok so let's prove it john kerry who says you know what snowden needs to man up and come back to the states i say to john kerry you need to
8:31 am
man up and start hanging banks toure's that are terrorizing your people a wait a minute your big handbag waving parcher john kerry what a pathetic loser but in terms of this case i think mark carney was not saying we should do something more extreme in fact he was saying so we shouldn't do it at all and many people responded to me on twitter in this regard they said for example phil c. dirty said it would be a start and then sabine novice said is that implying that not telling them will. so he's saying let's not even do it at all but then again you know that could apply to almost any criminal you know murder still happen even though we jail them and america they execute them with some bizarre medieval techniques and still people murder so why if that's the case and mark carney's argument we shouldn't tell anybody right i mean the british taxpayer is the one ultimately losing i mean look here's a story in today's metro the british bill for e.u.
8:32 am
they rise to five hundred million pounds and in the first paragraph they say because of the illegal u.k. u.s. could do in ukraine the british taxpayer is being billed five hundred million pounds so the government says there's no co and then the brussels is saying wait a minute there was a coup you i was five hundred million pounds and of course we're going to pay for it because cameron is a toady to the e.u. and you know for us can only do so much so and then go back to the story about telling bankers they want to target according to bill black who was a former prosecutor who put away eight hundred bankers in america after the s. and l. crisis he said it in fact did deter he spoke to many of these people crying like babies before hand saying please anything i'll do anything not to do any jail time so because however there is this theory going around by the central bankers and you know the attorney generals of the world that we might as well not jail any of these
8:33 am
bankers because it won't stop them from doing any crime well this headline barclays traders many puke scams gold price to cheat client on the evening of june twenty seventh two thousand and twelve the same day u.s. and u.k. regulators find barclays to enter the ninety million pounds for manipulating the london interbank offered rate or a libel or general plunkett emailed colleagues to say he hoped for a mini puke to fifteen fifty eight the next afternoon meaning a drop in the gold price plunket got that by manipulating the fixing avoiding a three. point nine million dollar payment to a client according to the f.c.a. so he did this many puke a year after he had entered this options contract with a client whereby it was all or nothing so either the client won three point nine million dollars or he lost whatever he had placed on the options so he basically slammed that he told the gold fixing at three pm on the twentieth of june two
8:34 am
thousand and twelve that in fact he had hundreds and hundreds of bars of order where he didn't and then pulled them right after the thing to slam the price right well you see it happening right now austria wants the delivery of their physical gold from london so the many pukes as there are you could call them the manipulating traders in london who of course are not being deterred by any kind of jail terms are manipulating this the gold market down because london has sold austria's gold they've sold it into the open market it's now in asia so now austria has no chance of getting their gold back same thing with germany so they're puking paper contracts as it's called to slam the price down giving the bank of england mark carney is going to man up and start to buy gold in the open market to make good on the austrian commitment that they remade done so the austria one of austria has a same opinion about bankers don't fulfill their promises so austria will say you know mark carney you owe us our gold you sold it to asia mark are you going to say
8:35 am
well we we don't punish bankers in england and us you say ok then we're declaring war on britain how about that for our gold and then it's off to the races which is always the case this is a world war start britain sold austria's gold they sold germany's gold europe now needs the gold because of the hyperinflationary money printing by the central bank so let's go to war in that case gold is going to do very well so but but let's do it let's get it on john kerry get your swift boat out it's time to man up get to the. frontline or. kerry remember the price on june twenty seventh two thousand and twelve close at fifteen seventy three fifty so he needed to get it down below fifteen fifty eight fifty so he managed to do that but remember one of the arguments that naysayers against gold rigging argue all the time is that you can't possibly rig the market because for every buyer there needs to be
8:36 am
a seller and every seller there needs to be a buyer well this case again once again we see that you're able to rate the price to whatever point you want it he picked a price he needed exactly the price that's what he emailed to his colleagues he needed it below fifteen fifty eight fifty they managed to get there how did they get there if this market is unreasonable because of the buyer and the seller and that part of the errors in the house are account and then it gets too big they get a bailout from the state we've been we've been over this many times before whether it's society general karylle who's being arrested and sent to prison for doing this exact same thing for his master to society in general the chairman of president told james carville manipulate the market and he did and now they made him the fall guy because decided generale technically insolvent b.m.p. in france not the races group here in the u.k. technically insolvent h.s.b.c. barclays lloyds are b.s. technically insolvent how do they stay afloat manipulating the market how do they
8:37 am
finance it ultra low interest rates who gives a mill to low interest rates mark carney who doesn't give austria and germany back their goal. beseeching the leaders of germany recto invades u.k. bring back the glitz you're not going to get your gold in the us you probably frickin idiots that's what i'm saying go back to the subway it was underground and hide from the bombs because mark o'mara is still if your goal ok we're going to be in jersey or somewhere in this doctor so we can have all new jersey and. and some were better but so plonk at this guy he he booked for barclays a one point seven five million dollars profit versus the three point nine million that his client would have earned had his bet his option. for prince charles you know because he was criticizing putin recently and so let's do a version of the show that prince charles would understand that putin and russia not entered world war two when they did hot the mission for finishing it in
8:38 am
flushing through can russia prince charles shop. ok so it does without russia prince charles would be a cow towing to his german masters these are the gracious little punk along with more cody that hardly sounded like a worse german accent ever but i was still thinking about the blitz i mean think of the genius so the client lost three point nine million dollars where he would have won it that means he was stolen from you might as well have just taken it out of its notifier it was the target that's all i'm saying so mark carney what an arrest him but that he did find him find the guy ninety five thousand six hundred dollars and the british bank barclays was fined twenty six million pounds no jail time remember david cameron what about those little kids who stole four dollar bottles of water if they were old enough to do the crime they were old enough to do the time here he has to pay a small deterrent a small fine
8:39 am
a small portion of his ill gotten gains. or if you're rushing to bob's british people. straight up so you mention that the low rates are there in order to cover up all these many pukes all these naked short selling is all these violent financial crimes against the financial system around the world against our savings against our you know futures our incomes our jobs well here in the united states the. they have a headline lower rates fail to boost mortgage activity so total mortgage applications for refinances and home purchases are down forty eight percent on the year but home sales of both new and existing are up why because all cash buyers are up they now account for thirty three percent of all whole purchases in the united states which is the typical year on average is about ten
8:40 am
percent so despite the low rates the bottom ninety nine point nine percent cannot afford or are not even qualified to be given a loan now in response the u.s. government f h f a and fannie mae and freddie mac. are want to loosen the standards in order to allow the normal joe schmo to come into the market to pay basically to give rewards to the all cash buyers who have been in there at the bottom right we can't taper a ponzi scheme so they're going to make it easier to flood the market with more ponzi finance and they've got now the u.s. is selling bonds to brussels through the e.c.b. to keep the ponzi scheme going there is no taper that's a lie janet yellen is lying then you've got the blanchflower of paul krugman failing to tell people that low interest rates cause deflation they are creating the deflation by keeping the zombie banks alive i try to explain this to danny blanchflower but he's an idealogue he doesn't understand actual day to day
8:41 am
economics same thing with paul krugman they're academics they know nothing about markets in the way that they work and the fraud in the crime black of course willing black understands this but he's been marginalized because they don't want any kind of rule of law anywhere in the united states and they think it's ok to steal people's gold ok germany austria well and also i remember this big piece by martin wolf he was saying that we need to destroy the savior class because they are the wrong there's a place on the underground for martin wolf waiting for him. ration book you know waiting for the above verse but it's obviously it's actually enabling the wrong day as you see in america average person is unable to even benefit from these low rates there's only one sort of class one specific small group of people who are able to take advantage of the near zero percent rate and they're doing very well and again making the bombs that wind up the ones that will not be makers the ones that are on
8:42 am
rehabilitative all according to mark carney because sending them to jail they're so hard core criminals that even jail won't fix them threatening the jail won't make them stop their evil crime wave well you know britain don't think of the west think of them as love letters. from your friends in germany and austria well stacey we got to go thank you so much thank you max alright states if for the second half an interview i grabbed a few days ago with ronnie. i marinate join me on. impartial and financial reporting commentary interview
8:43 am
and much much. only on the bus and. i wonder if you think that all that support comes free of charge or whether there is some sort of implicit expectation that american oil companies or just american companies will get someone access to your country's main old reaches absolutely and that is nothing. to do to achieve victory there must be some didn't return. i was born in the ukraine i grew up in a family of alcoholics as did many of my foster sons dead kids who had slept rough on the street since they were four years old some since they were two enough i'm not the rigid man where are you here again and now because of where i want to help
8:44 am
. there was a group of kids standing by the road like you put the children here aren't even asking for food only wanted some water to drink. so hundreds and hundreds of poverty stricken children dressed in rags. but i couldn't forget the eyes of this one boy i came back a year later to find that little kid. a very big man. but that was how i came by one mole foster. welcome back to the kaiser report imax keyser time now to go to washington d.c. and speak with ronnie last stand point research dot com ronnie welcome to the
8:45 am
kaiser report thank you for having me max ok ronnie you have a forty four page report essentially blacklisting companies like philip morris yahoo amazon apple on ethical and moral grounds why are you black listing them can you go into this a little bit yes the first and most extreme example obviously is philip morris they are in an industry that is killing five million people every year and michael bloomberg bloomberg has estimated that tobacco will kill one billion people in this century in china alone there are one million deaths are alone and there are one hundred eighty million children exposed to secondhand smoke know not only are we losing five million people a year to tobacco but ten percent of those half a million deaths are from secondhand smoke so you're talking about innocent victims
8:46 am
i don't even want to go into how the children and the grandchildren of these victims have their lives impacted when they lose someone that is close to them. ok now ronnie you are with standpoint research and this is research that's you're making available to money managers pension funds and people on wall street so when you do your analysis and when you look at a company like philip morris or amazon or apple do you actually ascribe a let's call it a morality risk and try to quantify that in terms of what this could mean to the share price if morality were suddenly realized in terms of being discounted by the stock price if you catch my meaning in other words if apple computer is yeah go ahead and understand the question and the answer is in
8:47 am
a capitalist system where the only thing that seems to matter is what the bottom line is at the end of the quarter there are going to be very few companies that are clean everyone at one level or another is being immoral unethical greedy selfish unfair if i was going to start eliminating every stock in the s. and p. five hundred from consideration the minute i saw something that disturbed me there wouldn't be any stocks remaining to recommend so what i do is i only single out extreme examples like you have with apple for example one hundred fifty billion dollars in cash and they're only paying their employees two to three dollars an hour in asia many of those employees have committed suicide already i don't want to talk about the s. and p. five hundred i just want to talk about six names in the s. and p. five hundred apple amazon wal-mart c.v.s.
8:48 am
starbucks i'm nick donald's their combined market capitalizations right now is one trillion dollars with a t one trillion dollars all of that money and all of that stock is in the pockets of the multi-millionaire and billionaire shareholders the employees have nothing it's a disgusting system that has to be wealthy distribution and that is the only way that the situation will be resolved. i want to get your thoughts on on something a few years ago sak goldsmith who is a minister of parliament here in the u.k. and myself were in the process of creating a hedge fund and this has fund would identify companies like the ones you've identified for example amazon and apple and we encourage people to boycott these companies while we simultaneously sold short stock in these companies as a way to monetize that dissent and then we also suggested that any profits made by
8:49 am
this had fun would go to the victims of these companies like the victims of apple computer who are working for slave wages in china i want to get your thoughts on this as a know as a way to monetize your work and what your thoughts are running the the idea is is very clever and very creative i've never heard anything like that before but i would have to ask you what would have happened if you shorted amazon three four five six seven years ago your hedge fund would be out of business right now because the stock went from one hundred to four hundred since i blacklisted it it went from four hundred to three hundred but i don't know if that had anything to do with my call i think it's just the timing was good and it was a coincidence that there was some bad news coming out around the time that i that i blacklisted the name what i would tell you to do though as you probably could could could short those names as
8:50 am
a basket so you don't get burned if one of those names goes against you in a short squeeze for example right well it just isn't well just to be clear as we iterated this concept in the magazine the ecologists here in the u.k. the boycotts on the short sellers were tied to the size of the boycott and then they had the shorts themselves were heads in the options market so our exposure was never greater than two or three percent or the cost of that had. and we put all of our own is on the policy yeah we put the onus on the public for other words if the public was truly against amazon and truly against yahoo and philip morris we put it on them and say look you boycott we'll sell the stock short and we'll head to the shorts and if they if the if the price stuff goes down we'll transfer all the money to the victims in india the victims around the world and i just want to tell you i just want to tell you that sounds like a very good idea obviously it's a new idea being thrown at me but it's very creative i think it could work you just
8:51 am
have to be. understand that this is something that doesn't happen overnight over a period of several years i think there will be a shift in the consciousness and awareness of people with social media now and there will be more activism and what we want to see at the end of the day will happen it just might not happen as soon as we write ok on this topic there are two other groups that are pursuing something similar ronnie there's of course the group anonymous which announced last year the creation of a hedge fund that would attempt to sell short offending companies and also there is we've who's a troll a very famous troll who spent some time in prison who has just announced a new head fun concept and he's seeking funds on start join the crowd funding platform so you're an excellent company and we applaud your work here and we wish
8:52 am
you to continue to highlight what is the genuine risk of these companies they are a gauged in risks that are externalized in other words apple and philip morris exxon this risk is not something the day they deal with all of this risk is externalized and socialize and put into the public domain which would you say that's a fair statement. yes i think it's only a matter of time between before the truth comes out and people start voting with their wallets these companies at the top that are acting in a moral and unethical ways will not change until they realize that it is more costly not to change and all they have to do is hear the word boycott and they will start shaking in their boots and they will start paying their employees the way they should be paid and looking at paying employees before they pay their shareholders because that is what has to happen here it is just inexcusable and
8:53 am
indefensible the what to what level we have stooped in this society where shareholders of a half a dozen companies could be sitting on a trillion dollars and the employees have nothing i don't even want to talk about what's going on with starbucks coffee bean pickers and central america the c.e.o. is sitting on two billion dollars the company's market cap is fifty billion dollars and the bean pickers are working for four dollars a day it's disgraceful and it has to stop and i think with social media there was a buzz and of little ground grassroots movement starting right now and i hope driving a few million people to my website between now and the next presidential election could make all the difference in the world with regards to who gets in and in twenty six team now ronny over there at standpoint research your constituency or the people that are supporting your work we're talking about especially wall
8:54 am
street we're talking about money managers and brokers who read stock analysts at analyst reports all day long and they're reading your reports you're not coming to this from the point of from let's say green pace you're coming to this from the point of view of being a stock analyst so you you're identifying risks that. these companies should be aware of so when these companies read your research that they're seeing potentially some risks to their balance sheet that nobody is talking about are they blaming you for pointing out this this risk is there an idea that ronny if you just stop talking nobody will pay any attention to this risk are you getting pressure from wall street to stop talking you know what's happening because i am on the far left i am on the far left politically i'm attacking the far right and the upper class and some of my clients are on the far right and in the upper class and some of them

found it difficult to listen to what i was saying and i lost a few accounts from the far right but they've been replaced by accounts that are coming to me unsolicited from the left that admire what i'm doing i don't think anyone is selling stock based on my blacklist because they don't believe wall street will pay much attention to it in the near term ok but people are looking at what i'm saying they're watching it from a distance and the minute these stocks start to break down and other people follow my lead i think you will see people go into the exits which they will not want to listen to the public backlash and the negative public will ations that is attached to these names there are thousands of names to invest in they may decide to take the path of least resistance and just go with companies that are not in the news in the way that i am putting these names in the news well i understand the political

orientation for sure but having worked on wall street myself there is a four letter word that nobody likes to hear it's called risk and you are highlighting what could be an enormous risk factor if the public suddenly starts to care about what these corporations are doing now a list of we have about one minute left ronnie i wanted to ask you i believe coming up in july you're going to be adding some names of companies to your list can you speak about this at this time running. yeah i would i would recommend that people go to my new website it's philanthropy and philosophy dot com where i am encouraging activism public you know raising awareness to these issues and i also highlight to is up to a dozen charities that are the most highly regarded highly respected and efficient organizations in the world they are doing god's work they are angels and we have no

japan's prime minister has pledged his country's support to southeast asian nations in their disputes with china friends or japan will help the countries in the region control their borders and keep their sea and air routes open and according to the prime minister it's no longer possible for any country to secure its safety on its own indeed just last month washington tokyo is a key territorial dispute with beijing and the largest u.s. naval fleet is currently docked in japan and finally the prime minister condemned any efforts to destabilize the status quo in the region so let's now take a look right now at most of the current disputes in the southeast asia region are all about so look here now the area within the dotted red line shown here is what beijing deems to be its historic heritage this is the red line itself states like vietnam brunei malaysia and the philippines are pushing their weight around to try to secure resources in the south china sea in fact indonesia and the philippines

have been upgrading their defense forces to counter any external risks and political blogger ryan dawson things japan's involvement as. what about working toward stability but rather about selling more. way he sold it to the public was to bolster security for smaller states such as vietnam and the philippines what his real concerns are not to help them with their own border disputes when you really look at it it's all about weapons sales and arms shipments they already shipped ten patrol ships to promise of the filthies three been delivered and they're sending more to vietnam and also to indonesia. and his party and the unity party under it have been talking about amending the constitution of japan article nine which already is being ignored greatly because japan's defense force is definitely in militaries the six largest military expenditure in the world they have a huge navy huge air force but they have been prevented from selling are immense

confession admitting his stole student debt paperwork worth five hundred million dollars and burnt it that makes it possible for students to get away without paying a single payer so the ashes from the documents have since been turned into an art installation and we caught up with the artist himself who told us about his initiative. i decided to burn the dead papers when i realized that tuition contracts were a bargaining chip between creditors and the universities direction i got rid of these papers to demonstrate how fragile the system is i wanted to show how one paper could ruin a life for instance many of the students were single mothers they went to study to provide their children with a better life but at the same time were deprived of the opportunity to see them grow to properly look after them and just one people can whittle down all their efforts if you don't pay the bill your kitchen they're still or even your bed we got taken away this project exposes the flaws of the capital system where these

injustices can exist and i admitted burning the papers as the act started backlashing some of the students and that is why i took the responsibility to make sure they are protected. and private investors here in china's central coast has been closed down as part of a government investigation into its financial operations it left students there unable to finish their studies and told saddled with heavy dads that investigators said the university was more of a money laundering operation than an education facility but one former student told us it's not just the university but also the government that failed them. students are ready to go into debt to get to degree but the system itself isn't for students that get an education contract can't escape the system for example to pay for five years of studies it usually takes a person almost fifteen years because of this credit system it's ok if this money

remember back to when the end was fresh and new you know on the very last day of twenty eleven when obama who pledged to veto the bill side to the law anyways yeah that's the thing that document that allows the government to instantly detain people link to quote terrorism i've heard all sorts of opinions on how that language got into the bill ranging from conspiracies like obama's evil to apologetics like well the bill was really long in that language came out kind of vague regardless of how or why that abductor was though trial language got in. there and it is flagrantly unconstitutional so house or present it's adam smith and justin amash recently put forward an amendment to fix this little oversight note this tiny amendment would only fix the invent the tension issue and nothing else but even then when push came to shove and when congress was given the chance to just change that little bit of the n.d.a. about infant attention they shut it down two hundred thirty eight two hundred eighty two so what does this mean well it means that either they have zero concept

going to sell n.b.a. owners are due to meet in new york on tuesday to consider mr sterling's remarks the latest development could preemptive move by the n.b.a. to force mr sterling. to sell his interest in the team the deal will also need the blessing of the twenty nine other and be a owners who are expected to approve it as long as baltimore pledge is again to keep the team in los angeles and not move them to seattle or bombers based on mr ballmer said in a statement that he was honored to have his name put forward to the n.b.a. for approval and he thanked the league for working collaboratively with him throughout the sale for sale of the l.a. clippers requires the approval of three quarters of the thirty team owners in the n.b.a. mr ballmer retired from microsoft in february but he still owns shares in the company so it's unclear how barmore will actually pay for the acquisition but our next guest may be able to shed some light on that very subject and much more on the economy of sports as a whole fitter mouth's it is a professor of economics at the college of the holy cross specializing in sports
9:32 am
economy and a perfect perfect guest to elaborate on today's events with the clippers now i spoke with him earlier and i started off by asking him to give us his take on this whole big deal take a look. first of all i think everyone thought that the clippers were going to sell for a lot of money last year forbes rated the clippers in their annual wage and at five hundred seventy five million dollars and most economists said that's that's way low especially since last month we saw the lowly milwaukee bucks in a much smaller market with a much worse team sold for five hundred fifty million dollars i think everyone thought that the clippers were going to sell for a lot of money i said look nine hundred million maybe a billion dollars and then today we get an announcement that the clippers win is for two billion that's a lot of money and i think that's a lot more than most that thomas and most other observers thought we thought was going to be a big number but that's a really big number major league baseball's dodgers that team just sold for two
9:33 am
point fifteen million two years ago so here's my question how does one price out a major sports franchise i think there's two real issues going on here so first of all is you need to look at the revenue streams that places are likely to generate the clippers are in a you know the nation's second largest media market it's a market that has shown that it's willing to pay top dollar for basketball obviously the lakers have probably been the biggest draw in town for the last couple decades so one thing you do is you look at the streams of revenue and there's no doubt that the n.b.a. looks very healthy healthy going forward there was some question about you know maybe a decade ago would be n.b.a. be able to replace its restored retiring superstars like larry bird and magic johnson and michael jordan and i think with the error of their rent and bron james clearly we've got a new generation of superstar talent that's highly charismatic these are great
9:34 am
players that the fans like and so the revenues at least going forward look pretty good for the n.b.a. and for an n.b.a. owner in l.a. . now you wrote a paper. or on sports franchises events and city livability two years ago and this is a big issue economically and legally now in two thousand and five the us supreme court ruled in kelo vs the city of new london connecticut that a city could they could invoke eminent domain under the fifth amendment of the us constitution and this is if a community would enjoy general benefits from economic growth from private redevelopment plan so i want to ask you what do you make of sports arenas like barclays center out atlantic yards in brooklyn displacing residents under eminent domain like this. well my personal feeling of that is that's a that's a pretty awful thing to do and to local residents is to clear them out just so a private n.b.a. owner a private arena owner can own a can own
9:35 am
a bigger nicer stadium what we are seeing in the last five years or so is a lot more privately financed stadiums but publicly owned so you have an odd situation where a private owner decides to pay for the stadium but they want the local municipality to actually own it that gives them all sorts of tax advantages and also makes way for the local government to be able to use eminent domain to. get rid of any roadblocks that might be in the way of creating these statements i want to ask you is the first amendment right is the fifth amendment the right not to incriminate oneself is this how did they how are they able to employ not an awning on then. well there are the real key is you there is a real public reason to want to the government to have some towers of eminent domain so for example if you got a major interstate that kind of connected boston and new york or l.a. and san francisco and there's one person with one old house in the middle of where
9:36 am
that's going to go and they refuse to sell no matter how much the government gets you know for the public good you say look we need this we need this road and there's one person standing in the way there is a sense that look the needs of the many outweigh the needs of that one person and we we as the government compensate them adequately but then also make the move that's a whole lot different though than a private business being able to force someone to move because they want a more profitable real estate development or a more profitable commercial development and i think you're really on the edge of things where you say look we're going to we're going to be. use the government to try to increase economic activity for private actors and that's real question of course the new london decision has had huge there's there was a huge outrage against that and you've seen many legislative actions being taken to
9:37 am
try to undo exactly what the court did in that case now you wrote a paper on the employment effects of the two thousand and two winter olympics in salt lake city utah and this was an event that was overseen by former us presidential candidate mitt romney now did you find that the olympics were an economic boon to salt lake city area and if so in what way is so with most mega vets and most most sporting events and sporting franchises these things actually all are good for the economy but they're the amount of economic impact they have is a fraction of what is usually claimed by boosters so for example in the salt lake city case we did in fact find that salt lake city had a market increase in the employment during two thousand and two that employment dissipated after a year and we found that in fact the olympics created about seventy thousand jobs and that's great unfortunately the winter olympic committee in salt lake city had
9:38 am
predicted it was going to produce thirty five thousand new jobs so what we found was a positive effect of the olympics but about one fifth of what the organizers claimed and we see this again and again in all sorts of activities from the super bowl the world series to stadiums and so again sports are a nice thing there are good for your economy but they're almost certainly good at a fraction of what the sports with your say. that was victor maltzahn professor of economics at because of the holy cross. time now for a very quick break but stick around because when we return we have bill janeway live on the show janeway is joining us via art and why is the studio to discuss the innovation economy plus edward harrison and i are tackling your viewer feedback in our weekly accrued interest segment but before we go here are a look at some your closing numbers of the bell the graph.

month to say to secure a car is on the docket no god. no more weasel words when you made a direct question be prepared for a change when you throw a punch be ready for a battle freedom of speech and a little down to freedom to cost. that we still haven't quite figured out why financial crises occur and what causes them but we certainly do see the devastating effects of them today yet could it be that crises have positive results joseph schumpeter suggested that creative destruction can actually lead to innovation and economic revolution now we're living in times of amazing amazing technological innovation so is this post
9:43 am
financial crisis period an opportunity for economic revolution well dr bill janeway is a venture capitalist a trained economist and an expert in understanding the innovation economy and he's joining us live from our new york city studio welcome to the show dr janeway now i want to start off by asking you right away you wrote a book called doing capitalism in the innovation economy in which you talk about the state as a principal actor in economic innovation so what is the key concept in the book. there are two the the central focus is that investing at the front here at the technological front here investing requires funding projects which are likely to fail progress is made by trial and error and error and they have the historically not just in the united states been two sources of capital to fund innovation at the front here the first has been
9:44 am
a mission driven politically the judgment state which has been able to mobilize resources most visibly to all of us alive today on the one hand through the u.s. defense department and laying the foundations for the digital economy from silicon to software and including the internet and on the other the national institutes of health creating the scientific base for the biotechnology revolution. those are two examples but at a certain point when the technology has reached a stage where it's ready for commercial primetime then the funding historically and today has come from financial speculators from investors who are prepared to commit funds on the long term that first that it just might turn out to be google or facebook if you like once upon
9:45 am
a time microsoft or apple but also are playing in liquid financial markets these are absolutely crucial acts access to the public stock market for ventures to be able to raise money at scale in order to be able to mobilize capital where the investor actually can make a profit can win even over the long term the project does not turn out to be economically viable again it's trial and error and error we saw this in the nineteenth century the railroads were funded in the united states and the united kingdom the pioneers of the railroad age were funded by speculators in the public capital market right the railroads were built the tracks were laid the companies that built them and that sold their stock off and went bust those are the examples of if you like positive bubbles positive speculative waves that fund technology
9:46 am
at a scale that would never be accomplished by the rational prudent investor of the economic textbook of course those aren't the only kinds of bubbles bubbles also fun beach houses in the nevada desert tulip bulbs gold mines all sorts of waste when they infect the banking system as they did in two thousand and eight. then then the bubbles are on a quickly negative and their consequences can be disastrous so this is not a simple statement bubbles are good go for speculation it's that the focus of speculation and whether it's limited to the stock market or whether it is leverage to the massive leverage that takes place in the banking system and affects the whole economy that is a crucial difference one that has been difficult for people to grasp when they
9:47 am
realize that we've had this tremendous destruction since two thousand and eight but on the other hand in the late one nine hundred ninety s. the dotcom telepaths com bubble but it buzz produced very little damage at all to the broader economy either in the united states or around the world dr singh way i want to ask you if you economic questions now innovation and uncertainty are closely intertwined yet today neoclassical economics seems to adhere to the idea of rational expectations so what impact does uncertainty have on technology innovation and the economy. rational expectations is in the process of fading away it was a dream it was i how papa says it was always called the rational expectations i papa says it was a fantasy that blew up in two thousand and eight for economics for the disciplines of economics and finance i like to say that two thousand and eight is the gift that
9:48 am
keeps on giving because it has forced economists and financial theorists to reckon with the actual context in which economic and financial decisions are made it is pushed economists back to rediscovering the great works not just of paid or who actually on the subject was not terribly insightful but of keynes of the great high minsky forgotten now remembered as the the author of the minsky moment yes and i want to talk to them about that i want to know about nancy is right now you're associated with the teachings of hyman minsky who is an economist who has received a lot of press since the great financial crisis so what is your work with minsky tell you about the period we're going through we're getting venture capital technology investing and about the economy more generally. well meant that minsky was really concerned with the banking system with the credit system and he certainly got right the idea that when stability breeds instability
9:49 am
when bankers lend money and people pay it back routinely they lend more money and the credit system moves through this kind of almost it seems fated path from a very conservative hedged situation where the borrowers are paying back the money they borrow out of their operating cash flow to what he called the speculative phase when they're paying their interest but they have to refinance the principal of the debt to where we get to what he called the ponzi level where the lenders are actually the lending the borrowers the interest which they then pay back when you reach that stage which we did in two thousand and seven they the game is the game is up pretty quickly it's interesting today this morning that gillian tett who's work in the financial times i admire enormously had an article about maybe things are getting too stable maybe volatility has declined so much that
9:50 am
we're going to see a rise of speculative valuations of assets that could be destructive again i think we're seeing that but it's very isolated house prices in london the occasional social media want to be a challenger to facebook but it's not infecting the markets as a whole i think the problem what we're really living through now is the long term extended process of paying down the debt in the private sector it was the enormous accumulation of debt by households and by corporations that got us into this trouble and by banks it's certainly not the leveraging is continuing and it's why i expect we will have disappointing and frustrating least slow growth not just in the us. but in europe as well dr jane i wish i had more time to talk to you have great answers here but sadly we're out of time so you have to promise to come back on the
9:51 am
show but thank you for your time and your insight that was a venture capitalist and economist bill janeway time now for our weekly look back. it's our week we had interest to look back well at least it is this week. and now every driver editor at harrison i put you the viewer into the driver's seat by being used to the show with your comments questions and concerns all centered us throughout the week via twitter you tube and facebook let's dive right in now to set up our first comment i want to play you a bite from our recent guest economist mark thoma now i asked mark if the fed should raise rates and this is what he had to say check it out. i think they should be very patient in doing so and they should wait until unemployment has clearly neared full employment i think if they pull the trigger too soon they could blunt
9:52 am
what's already had to slow recovery so you know within that when they're within a point half a point of full employment then i'd really start thinking about beginning to raise interest rates if there's any sign of inflation then i think they have to consider raising interest rates but right now there's just no signs of inflation anywhere on the rise and so that's not a worry. now in response to that you viewer brian anderson said quote this professor mark thomas is ridiculous no inflation question mark look at food costs fuel medical housing the stock market education rising prices are rampant everywhere in the ivory tower of banking government and academia so edward is china being wacky or is his analysis solid what do you think well you know the thing the more concerned is that stock market thing that was talked about goes back to what bill janeway had to say janeway was talking about what gillian tett. and i used to be a credit market and actually even more concerned about the credit markets because when
9:53 am
jane we was talking about two thousand and eight and its destruction he was really talking about the fact that in the one nine hundred ninety s. we had a stock market bubble that was massive but it wasn't associated with the credit markets as a result didn't have as deleterious effect is when you infect the credit markets and then you have the potential for debt deflation as after you have the inflation not only of asset prices but of of the debt that is underlying those asset prices that's when bad things happen and that's what we're seeing right now is an increase in debt in a very negative and frothy almost bubble is just kind of we're always. going to move right on and we're moving on to europe and the problems from the euro zone now here's a clip from our interview with marshall are about your day don't. hear this one trillion is a real problem the bigger problem that you have the banks in europe is that they're massively overcapitalized relative to g.d.p. and so the question becomes how do you guarantee the deposits in
9:54 am
a credible way and i don't think that's been resolved i mean ireland for example that really was the camel of the straw that broke the camel's back in the sense that you had the irish government that said several years ago we're going to guarantee all of the pause in the of the irish banks and the markets began to say well hold on irish banks as a percentage of to. about five or six times g.d.p. how can the irish government which doesn't issue the euro credibly back those deposits and that's the same problem you have across europe even in place have your good o'kane now or here thought that was pretty good and he wrote to say quote as mr r. back pointed out the monetary and fiscal architecture of europe is cultivating imbalance in the union since the introduction the progression of this imbalance has been like watching a slow car crash however the origins of this architecture are rarely allies edward do you make what do you make of the euro zone's flawed monetary and fiscal architecture when you think you know what marc marsh was talking about it's even.
9:55 am
g.d.p. of arlon the banks it's a symptom of these imbalances that we saw so you had german capital flow into ireland as a result of the suppression of wages in germany the so-called internal devaluation . there was a huge asset price bubble in places like ireland and spain as a result of the irish and spanish banks levered. they became unsustainable in their size as well as the asset bubble when things collapse the question was who's going to pick up the pieces because these are individual countries it's not the regulatory issue and that creates a massive problem that we see with the juxtaposition between the national and the supernational in the e.u. and that's what we're seeing play out throughout europe and it's not over we think that it's over now because of compressing but i think that the problem's going to come. in the next cyclical downturn and we're running out of time but i quickly
9:56 am
want to move on to julie sandals and she was on the show to talk about net neutrality and we're not going play the bass but she was talking about latency which is another word for delay and how that affects the company's business so in response that segment michael g. argue this as the saying goes the cure for high prices is high prices if there is a free market in the internet. a company driving up prices won by the competition and their capital potential profit margins rise and word is the cure for high prices just higher prices we have thirty seconds for them to get take over because you have to look at the market structure over the period of time before those higher prices invite competition when you're in an industry that is highly capital intensive then you would have high prices for a long time before you're actually in competition and that's going to be a huge problem in telecom we're talking about five ten fifteen years down the. solution what i do think you're so much that's all for now but you can see all

in the last two days more and more civilians have found themselves in the line of fire there was a children's hospital that was shelled a number of residential buildings have been attacked at the same time there was a school and a kindergarten that came under fire locals tell us on friday they was allowed in fighting presumably this was to coincide with the fact that it was the last day of school but what people on the ground are telling us is that overnight shelling in the eastern ukrainian town of slovyansk resumed now at least two hundred children have been evacuated from the town to the resort of crimea this was a journey that was not without its hic cups but what we do understand is that the children are now safely in crimea of course they had to face the hardiest journey of unsafe roads this was not the only problem there was also the question of alerting the ukrainian authorities that there were buses with children making their way through this territory we did manage to catch up with a few of the children and this is what they told us. the city often comes under

this later but now japan's prime minister has pledged his country's support to southeast asian nations and their disputes with china since there are japan will help the countries in the region control the borders and sea and air routes are open and according to the prime minister it's no longer possible for any country to secure its safety on its own indeed just last month washington. in a key territorial dispute with beijing and the largest u.s. naval fleet is currently docked in japan and finally the prime minister condemned any efforts to destabilize the status quo in the region so let's now take a look right now at what most of the current disputes in the southeast asia region are all about so it is here the area within the door to red line shown right here is where beijing debates historic heritage states like vietnam brunei malaysia and the philippines are pushing their weight around to trying to secure resources in
