good morning. it's wednesday, february 3rd. i'm patrice harris. we're waking up to more winter weather this morning. the snow came down last night and we are talking about it all this morning. we're bringing you live triple team coverage of the snow fall. joel d smith is live in westminister. megan gilliland is reporting from baltimore county, and jessica starr is here in the city all with the latest on the current conditions out there. and because of the snow we have some school closings and a few delays to pass along to you. here is a look at school closings that are closed. anne arundel county, charles, dorchester, montgomery county and queen ann's and talbot county schools closed today. opening two hours late, allegheny county, baltimore city, cecil, frederick, harford, st. mary's somerset, washington county and worcester county

schools, again two hours late today. and just remember whenever severe weather hits, tune in to fox 45 morning news. our morning news ticker will have all of the latest closings delays and traffic conditions. that tricker updates automatically and it even runs during commercials. if tour heading out on the roads, candace dold is here with what you can expect in the traffic edge report. good morning, candace. >> reporter: good morning, patrice. when you wake-up and open the windows, you will see the side streets. here it is in rogers forge, you can see it's a bit of a fluffy mess there. that is really what is on the roads on the side streets. as for -- with well, the sidewalk you can see the snow has fallen there and it's on those cars. so that is going to be the main annoying factor is just actually digging into your car this morning. as far as the main lines, though, let's check in on those. here is 83 moving at 695 you can see the cars are indeed moving, no snow out on the main roads.

that is at least the good news and the glimmer of hope for you as you hay out th head out the . the actual speed, from 83 up toward 795, looking at a 9 minute clip at 55 miles per hour. and 53 miles per with a 12-minute ride from 795 toward 95. once you finally do hop on 95, not too much to complain about there, either, it's just a bit slick. but hey, no snow so we will take it from the fort mchenry tunnel, 8 minutes at bief miles pe-- 55 miles per hour. we want to focus on the weather so we turn to meteorologist steve fertig and all of the answers. thank you, candace. the active weather is past us and moved early through this morning. the showers to the west in garrett county that we will continue to see it, but to the east things have dissipated quite a bit. it's time to relax, right? no, no. you heard the groundhog. that rodent or maybe we want to call him a rat.

he is bringing us more snow. it's going to move our way, it's going to resemble much like the december 19th storm that we got. if you remember that one, that brought us a foot to a foot 1/2 of snow. it looks like we will be dealing with more of the same. this one brought us 3-4 inches. when it's all said and done the surrounding areas 3-5 inches. the bigger snowstorm, this is kind of a warm up for what is to come. 39 degrees for the high with a mix of sun and clouds. watch it see some sunshine later in the afternoon. again more on that storm for the weekend in a few minutes. back to you, patrice. the same day punxsutawney phil declared six more weeks of winter we were hit with another winter blast. this morning, folks across the region are waking up to more snow. megan gilliland is live in baltimore county with a look at how things are shaping up in rogers forge. you know, megan it didn't take

me that long to shovel out my car and it wasn't as bad as i thought it could have been. >> i agree, patrice i had the same situation. it brushes off easy, it's something more you have to do at 4 or 5, or 6:00 in the morning. i have shoveled myself already. as you can see, it's very easy. it's nice and fluffy snow. it's very easy to shovel off. once you get out, take a look at the roads. the crews have done a remarkable job at getting the roads to the condition a they are this morning. very wet, so there's need to be careful. this slushy stuff, you are seeing a lot of this on the turning lanes. if you see this, you need to be careful there. we slid a little bit there. we talked to the folks at rogers forge neighborhood who are out walking on the sidewalks. hear what they have to say. >> from the look of it, it doesn't look bad. more coverage on the side right there, but we will see what it's like later on. >> reporter: and he said his next step, of course is coming to the car and brushing it off

and the same situation with brushing off your cars this morning. it comes off pretty easy. it's something else you have to do if you're heading out this morning. give yourself extra time to dig out yet again. live in rogers foreign, i'm -- m megan gilliland. >> how are things out in westminister. >> reporter: we're at westminister at route 140. as you can tell the folks are having no trouble getting out once they hit had part of their trip. folks driving easily up to the speed limit if not a little bit over. this is baltimore boulevard as it's known. we are near the wal-mart at westminister crossing. the folks once they get to the roads no problems at all. the side streets, they have a little bit of an issue. they weren't really plowed. folks got over thereabout now. we checked about an hour ago. the side streets had whatever

fell still on them. it seems that there was salt left over from the last storm that was still there. there's a couple of tracks, you can find them. this is the snow, a good 4, 5 inches. i thought it was pretty light but we were talking to a plow truck driver who disagreed. take a listen. >> it's -- it's the heaviest one yet, it's the wettest without a doubt. that's why i'm glad there wasn't a whole lot because it's heavy snow. it's hard on the equipment. it's hard on my back. it's a lot more bumpy on the ice and everything. take your time and slow down and do it a little slower. >> reporter: it makes it a little bit easier on mike knowing that he makes more money. he says this has been one of the best winters in the last three or four years. the plow drivers, they're one of the happy ones this morning. >> i do not begrudge anybody a paycheck but i can't deal with it anymore. i do agree with him, with this

it happened at the 800 block of lancaster street. the man was working outside of an empty building when the lines to his scaffolding jammed. that made it difficult for him to move his harness. rescue crews were able to get him inside by swinging the worker into an open window. the mechanism that allows him to go up and down to wash windows is powered by a motor. it malfunctioned and just wouldn't allow him to go up. >> medics took a look at the man on the scene. he was not hurt. coming up some people will do anything for attention. >> you can tell my arms ♪ ♪ to go back to the farm >> wow! the judges reaction to bikini boy on last night's american idol. priceless face, steve. >> i didn't see that one. you don't want to he see this maybe this morning some know. it's out of here. we are going to look at another

's a messy morning out there after we got more snow overnight. meteorologist jessica starr is live in baltimore city with conditions out there, and my drive from the county wasn't so bad. the city looks a little iffy. >> reporter: yeah, you know what, it's a little bit of the back roads. the main roads we're right here on canton and boston street. boston looks really nice and it's a little bit wet. you can see along lakewood

avenue, it's a little bit slushy. i do live downtown and i personally did see 3 or 4 salt trucks before i wept t went to t night. all in all, not too bad for the amount of snow that we actually got. i have a ruler here so let's see how much snow we got last night in canton. i will put this in. we got right around 5, almost 5.5 inches of snow. pretty good know fall fell from the system last night. you will have to plan for the morning. you will have to clear off your car and more of your car. take it easy out on the roadways this morning. for now let's go to steve to see the snow fall totals around the region and a look at the next storm coming for the weekend. >> reporter: this is the dress rehearsal for the main event. >> hum. >> so get ready. here is what is happening out there right now. as you can see, jessica downtown, not looking like a whole lot of active weather. dry conditions in our scan.

you can see downtown also, not seeing anything actively falling from the sky. this was earlier as you look at the motion composite. you can see the last few frames indicating close to right now and that, again indicating improvement. it's moved off to the east for the most part. up slope snow showers for the north and west and you can see we even had a little bit of a changeover for the south in the east where we had the heaviest snow in salisbury. bursts of snow moving through there real quick and you see as a result, surrounding areas 3 inches of snow and surrounding points south and east. closer to the down down area of balt -- downtown area, 4 inches on average. a couple of places in bel air, 3.75 inches. 4-5 inches there on average and back to the north and west, 3.5 to 4 inches toward thurmond and taneytown. and a almost above 3.75 inches

toward the northeast and we're seeing improvement right now. that's good news. temperature wise, near the freezing mark. 33 in d.c. the same in salisbury and magers town, 33 degrees there and 28 degrees cooler in oakland. we are going to watch because as the system pulls out and the cold front moves through, we have another system coming our way. this is one that may resemble much like what happened with the december 19th storm that brought us upwards of 18 inches of snow in some places. that is what we're expecting about a foot to 18 inches, maybe if this storm follows the following scenario. one scenario would take this out to sea. if that occurs, not a big deal for us. the more likely scenario is that it moves up the coast. if that raps, we get a lot of snow through the mid-atlantic and further points east. a quieter afternoon with most low cloudy skies. the central part of the state climbing to 39 degrees with

10-mile-an-hour winds. western part of the state 39 degrees, a couple of up slope snow showers there. 26 degrees, clear skies overnight tonight and after the 39 degrees today for high with clearing skies later, we look for a prettier day later, lots of sunshine and a high of 41. in comes the late snow friday into saturday and saturday being the main day when we see the snow that could be heavy if that scenario follows. 34 on monday with mostly clear skies and then take a look, on tuesday, 35 degrees round 3 guys, coming your way. sky watch weather is at your finger tips. you can use fox 45 powerful doppler radar coming storms. go to foxbaltimore.com and click on iradar. now here is candace dold with an update on what is happening on the roadways. she has the traffic edge. >> reporter: thank you, steve. it is indeed a wintery morning mess out there. we want it show you what it

looks like when you look out the window and find the secondary roadways. here it is in rogers forge and a little bit slushy there and a bit slick as well. also look at those cars. that is kind of the nuisance this morning it's brushing all of that off and warming up your car, of course. that is what it looks like in rogers forge, but let's go at what it looks like in carroll county. here is route 140 at angler road. that is not looking too bad. it's a bit slick there. crews have done an excellent job with this one. it's the back roads that you are going to have to use extra caution. the main lines so far so good. let's check in moving at liberty road and here it is outer loop direction and inner loop lanes, those cars are cruising along, just a bit slick. just use caution but no major concerns. moving on the top end of the beltway, favorable conditions, still moving from the pikesville region all the way toward the 83 and eventually toward parkville. now we do need to check in on 95, though.

stocks celebrated a groundhog day of their own posting a second straight day of strong gains. the dow rose over 1%, the nasdaq and s&p 500 posted solids gains. the auto industry is making a come back. ford posted a 25% in sales. ford will likely drive into the number 2 slot in u.s. sales thanks to the car of the winning fusion model. gm reported that sales increased by 14%, but t toyota posted a 1% decline. most of that is associated with

the pedal recall. the national association of realtors said that pending home sales rose. the tax credit is giving the market a boost. that is because some over qualified professionals are taking any job they can get. the age of part-time workers like those in fast food and retail increased pushing out some the younger workers who usually man the counters. a labor department showed that the employment rate for 16 to 24 is almost at 19%. for business brief, i'm stan case. coming up, security officials say another terrorism attack on the u.s. is coming. how soon they expect it will

everything. you got to take your time and do is a little slower. >> reporter: he says he does big parking lots that take him an hour, hour and 15, an hour and 45. it's been a long night for guys like mike. they is have a smile on their face and they make more money. i guess, have more money coming their way for the forecast for later this week. >> that's right, and as much as i complain about the snow, i will take this snowstorm versus what we're going to get in a couple of days. all right, thank you, joel. well, sheila dixon will step down as mayor of baltimore tomorrow. and not a moment too soon it seems for the state prosecutor. robert warbow had harsh words for the outgoing mayor calling her arrogant and shameful. dixon was convicted for stealing gift cards for the needy. statements she made since her plea deal are unacceptable. misdixon has insisted on not only bringing further disgrace to herself but to the city by

the groundhog said yesterday that winter wasn't over and there's proof outside this morning. meteorologist jessica starr is live in baltimore city with the latest conditions on the snowy streets. and jess, as much as i don't want to deal with snow, i will take this versus what is coming this weekend. >> reporter: i agree. we were talking about how much we didn't like winter yesterday instudio. but know, this is a really pretty snow. it was a wet snow and it makes scenary look very nice, winter-like but the roads are decent in baltimore and canton,

it's a little wet out there. they did an amazing job with the salt trucks, although the back roads and the neighborhoods are a little bit slushier, but not too bad from the amount of snow that we got yesterday. i do have a yardstick to see how much snow we got. i think on average everybody got 4-5 inches. putting it on the ground and seeing how much snow fell in canton, almost 5.5 inches in canton of snow. just enough to cancel some schools, but some schools in delay and cause a little trouble on the roads this morning. all in all, not too bad. with a more in-depth look at the totals let's head to steve in the sky watch center. >> reporter: i brought in some help. instudio we have an additional team coverage. we brought daniel and it's our weather kid wednesday segment. tell us about your age. you're 11 years old. >> yes, i'm 11. >> and you're in what grade. >> 5th grade.

we want to show you what it looks like moving on the secondary roadways is even the main lines. let's check in westminister, here it is on route 140 at listeningler road. listening -- at angler road. it doesn't look like much on the road it looks just slick. parts of the main lines on 95 moving through howard county. we can check in for you and show you the northbound and southbound lanes. well, again no snow, and hey, it looks like not a big deal, right? well, that is not the case. you don't want to get overconfident out there, because now, i will tell you why. we do have an accident, a car is actually into a ditch. it's on the northbound lanes of 95. that is moving right at 175, so again, don't get overconfident. definitely take it slow, even if they do look as clear as the shot does. now the entire stretch of 95 from the fort mchen retunnelhenl

we are continuing our snow coverage with meteorologist jessica starr. she is in baltimore city with the current conditions there. and jess, we have been asking people on facebook to talk about what it looks like. and herman said i worked downtown in canton and boston street looks great. that is what you have been saying. >> reporter: that's the great news now. baltimore city is going to lift phase one at 8:00 a.m. this morning. that doesn't mean that there's not going to be slick spots or slushy areas, but they did such a fabulous job overnight last night of clearing the roads and getting the salt out there on time that they're going to be able to lift that 8:00 a.m.

you will need to take sometime to clear off your car this morning. snow fall totals, everybody got 4 to 4.5 inches but it depended on where you live. but here in canton, i have a ruler so let's see how much snow we got here around the canton area. well, right around 5 inches here in canton but some areas got more. whartoward whitemarsh we saw the inches of snow. there's a bigger storm that is headed our way this weekend. for the snow totals around the region, let's head to steve in the sky watch center. >> reporter: the ground was warmer when it started so some of that snow total may not really be indicative of how much snow fell. we may have had more than what we're measuring in places. here is what we're looking at, jessica, take a look. sky watch hd radar dry scan right now, looking pretty good as we check out the image and get closer looking downtown. earlier we saw our share of snow and you can see as it has moved out of here and only what is left a couple of snow flakes in

spots to the east if at all and the highest elevations to the west. we're looking a whole lot better than earlier when we saw 6.25 inches at salisbury, indicating that it could be very varied in a small area, 3.5 inches in delaware, and 3 inches toward cambridge and toward pocomoke city. an average of 6.50 inches. up to the north and west 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 inches there. and as we head toward the north central part of the state jarrettsville, 3 inches there. 2.5 inches northeast and port deposit, 2 and over 3.25 inches there. this is pretty much on target with what chief meteorologist vytis reed s saying last night.

-- was saying last night. there could be icing over some the surfaces out there. be careful. 33 in d.c., 34 in salisbury. the is this is just the preview of what is to come. this system months ou -- moves t of here. look at what is bind that. the low pressure center moving out of the gulf coast area and that low pressure center could take one of two paths. you have heard us say this before. that low pressure center could be moving off to the east as it moves north. however, month computer models indicating that it's coming off the coast. this whole area the mid-atlantic and also for the northeast gets all of this snow right in the i-95 corridor region and again, we got a lot of moisture coming your way this time around it looks like. for friday night into saturday, this could be an event more like december 19th when we had the bri blizzard of '09 not long

ago. improving conditions with mostly cloudy skies. 41 degrees for the high in the eastern shore. the central part of the state not quite as warm but 39 degrees should do it with a northwest wind at 5-10. temperatures there closer to the same, cooler, perhaps, 35 degrees generally with a chance of an up slope shower in spots only in the higher elevations. 26 for the overnight low and we will get to the 39-degree high today getting rid of the snow this morning and seeing partly cloudy skies by noon with a temperature of 35. getting to the 35-degree high around 2 or 3:00 this afternoon and then 35 degrees as the temperatures back off at 6:00 p.m. with partly cloudy skies. tomorrow sunny and in comes the snow later on friday. the chance for heavier snow would be on saturday with a high of 33. 31 on sunday, and 34 on monday, and 35 with a round 3 of the winter weather coming your way then. by the way, this one friday night into saturday, as i said, it's very much like the other

repair those. so it's in essence buying insurance coverage. >> what is the problem with that? >> well, there's two. one not everybody needs it, some people need to check, because their homeowner's policy may already cover it. we had one consumer call us this week. the homeowner's policy would cost $40 to have this particular claus put oclause which is lessg $5 a month. >> is this a reputable company or is there more to be on the look out? >> it is. it's a real company. there's two problems, one is the way they are advertising. that is what has given us a lot of pause. we do know into the municipalities, they send out notices that they do a seal on the top of the invoice where it looks like it's really coming from the city or the county. so we're concerned about what we call deceptive advertising practices. it's creating a sense of urgency that some people because of as

the slushy icy mess that is going to be a bit annoying this morning. that car passed by so it's at least passable. as far as the main lines, here it is at 83, it doesn't look like we have any, no snow on the roads so they are looking much better this morning. taking the outer loop lanes of the beltway, so far no incidents to report from 83 up toward 795, an 8 minute clip at 54 miles per hour. just 53 miles per hour with a 12-minute ride on the usually heavy west side of the beltway from 795 down toward 95. traveling through baltimore right now nothing to complain about, 895 on the harbor tunnel, all the way down toward 95, looking at a 9-minute ride and nice and calm, 55 miles per hour, but again, don't need to be overconfident, just take it slow this morning as you hit the roadways. it's a look at the morning travels. we do need to get a check of the weather with meteorologist steve fertig. thank you, candace.

the groundhog said yesterday that winter wasn't over and there's proof outside this morning. meteorologist jessica starr is live in baltimore city with the latest on conditions down there. and jess, you and i talked bad about the groundhog yesterday. we were not feeling his prediction but he was right. >> reporter:right. >> reporter: i know, ground hog. but here in canton things are looking a-okay. boston streets are looking great right now. they did a great job getting the salt trucks on time a little bit on the back roads, a little bit

slushy. you will have to take your time on the back roads, but not too bad. the most time-consuming aspect is going to be cleaning off your car. baltimore city within city limits is lifting the phase 1 because they did such a great time that most of the streets are cleared. that doesn't mean that there won't be a few slick spots here and there. you need to take it easy. here in canton we got 5 inches. i will measure quickly to show you on the yardstick. look at that, five inches of snow here in downtown baltimore from last night's snow fall. there's going to be more snow this weekend. let's head to steve in the sky watch center. i would like to see everybody's faces in maryland because you will have some people saying, more know, bring it -- more snow bring it on and some others, make it stop.

all i can do is tell you what is coming your way. dry conditions right now downtown, not looking bad at all. we will put things into motion and not looking so bad over the last several hours. there was plenty of activity earlier in the day. this morning we had plenty moving through. you see the last remnants of it moving toward the east. there's know showers in the highest elevations to the west. the highest snow fall total we have seen in any one location that i found was in salisbury to the west of it at 6.25 itches. in the surrounding areas, 3.5 inches. and an inch to an 1.50-inch. and downtown 4 1/2 inch to the 5-inch, and down toward d.c. more 5-inch totals there. but 4 1/2 to 5 inches in general around laurel, too. toward thurmond and taneytown

3.25 inches. and further points east lesser amounts 2 1/2 to 3 inches there. a variety of snow fall totals, but generally the 3-5-inch range we can say. the temperatures not helpful in that the temperatures are dropped below freezing in some spots. in baltimore 31 degrees as megan was saying causing it to freeze over in some spots. be careful about that. up in hagerstown 30 degrees and in oakland 28 degrees there. as far as what is next, that is what jessica was alluding to. this system moves off to the east. the frontal boundary pushing it further in that direction. high pressure builds in. that brings us a nice night with clear skies. a nice day tomorrow with plenty of sunshine, but there, remember this one. this low pressure center is coming our way and maybe bringing us significant snow fall for friday night into your saturday. this one could resemble very much like the december 19th storm with the blizzard of '09. one scenario takes it out to sea

which would not bring us as much snow. the other one brings it up the coast. when we get that nor'easter coming up the coast, we get the whole snow in the north atlantic region and the heavy snow could bring us potentially a foot to a foot 1/2, meaning 12 to 18 inches, do the math. you can see a lot of moisture coming our way and with the cold air in place, that is why we think we could see a significant event for friday night into your saturday, especially. for today the rest of the day we start to clear out. turning partly cloudy later. central part of the state climbing to 39 degrees, with mostly cloudy skies turning partly cloudy in afternoon and then for the western part of the state, about 39 as well. higher elevations cooler, but mostly cloudy skies and don't be surprised a snow hour with the help of the mountains could be in play for the afternoon. clear skies with a northwest wind at 5-10 miles per hour. we get to the 39 today by seeing the temperatures climb to about, well, 35 degrees by noon and

left us on the roadways. we want to show you what it looks like out there. here it is at engler road at wal-mart, you can see it off to the side. not a lot of problems there, it seems like the roads are wet. there's a lot of side roads. a lot of people have been telling us on facebook as well that it's going to be slushy. just take it careful, just take it extra slow and be careful if you're heading out there this morning. the main lines checking in on 95 moving through howard county at route 100. favorable conditions on the northbound and southbound lanes, but don't let all of this fool you. in fact, we just cleared out an accident on the northbound lanes of 95. a car actually went off the road and was into a ditch that was right near route 175, so you could have come across a slick spot. just take it extra slow this morning. as for the beltway, well, it's problem-free moving on that west side stretch. we can show you liberty road

off their car. it looks like it's coming off pretty easy, but nonetheless it definitely cost you sometime this morning. again, of course, just use caution. it's going to be slick out there. as for the main lines, they're looking pretty good inner and outer loop lanes are very calm. light activity moving on the beltway right at harford road. farther up, we want to talk about the actual time, from 95 to 83, pretty normal. and just 54 miles per hour with an 8 minute clip from he 83 making the push up toward 795. now as for the west side, from 795 down toward 95, just 12 minutes at 53 miles per hour. so all in all, not looking too bad, but again just use caution. you don't need to travel that fast. take it a little slow. that's a look at the morning travels. we do need to get a check of the weather with meteorologist steve fertig. thank you, candace and the active part of that overnight snow is off to the east and our future scan model shows you that

we dry out behind it. clearing skies that will certainly help, however we can't rest quite yet because there's something behind this. let's take a it at the gulf coast area. this one comes up of the coast and brings us a storm that we had on december 19th. as much as how much we picked up from last night into the morning, just 3-5 inches of snow with some areas as much as 6 inches in some locations. it was a preview of what is to come even though it was a healthy dose, it wasn't as bad as what we think we're going to get on friday night into saturday. we're focused on that one. meanwhile today the rest of the day, 39 degrees should do it for the high at 1:00. we are talking about a mix of sun and clouds. again, there will be improving weather to come for today, but don't get too comfortable, because as you see, there's more snow on the way. we want to see what is on the way on fox 45 morning news.

there. people tend to blame meteorologist but you don't like snow. >> this morning when i looked out. i thought to myself, you know, it's a really, really pretty snow. it's that wet kind of snow and it's on the trees. with regard to the roads, they did a great job last night. a little bit of wet roads. the back roads in the neighborhood areas are a little more slushier, but the salt trucks have been out all night long and all morning long. the good news is they have lifted phase one within the city limits of baltimore. with regard to snow in canton we got 5 and 5 1/2 inches. some areas got more snow and some got less. with another look at another storm that could possibly be headed our way on friday night into saturday. let's head to steve in the sky watch center. i think what patrice says is right. a lot of people blame the

meteorologist. it's not my fault. it's your fault. i'm teasing. let's take a look at what is happening out there sky watch radar. we tell it like it is. you can see the clearing skies with less activity out there. temperature wise, well, we're in the low 30s right now. and we are going to be watching because this low pressure center that has brought us the snow is going to be moving off into the atlantic ocean out of our way. the cold front to follow continues to push it off in that direction. we picked up as much as 3-5 inches of snow. a couple of places six inches like salisbury with one isolated location, but most of it from d.c. up to baltimore and some points north and west of there. high pressure builds in today. that is what helps clear out the skies. the low pressure to follow, that is the one that we're following and jessica was just alluding to, that may be coming up the coast and bringing us the chance of another significant winter event, much more significant than last night into this morning. this is what we're looking at

for friday night into saturday. the low pressure center could actually move off to the north and east and move out to sea in which case we would not be as concerned. it could bring a little he snow still but not as much. other concern is that the low pressure center comes up the coast. you have been through this before. we get the nor'easter in our direction. the result is heavy snow from new england and down through the mimid-atlantic where we are. we see as a result a foot to 18 inches of snow possible for friday night into saturday especially for your saturday. here is what we're looking at a lot of moisture coming up. we say that the gulf is open for business when the low pressure center is off to the west and we have no blocking of moisture up from the gulf. the result is a possibility of heavy snow. what we're looking for today. drier conditions for the noon. mostly cloudy skies, north west at 5-10 or 15 miles per hour.

back through the central part of the state, 45 degrees for the high. and a 10-15-mile-an-hour wind. a couple up slope showers there, but roadways cloudy and 35 degrees for the high temperature. 26 degrees clear skies tonight. a pretty night and a very pretty day tomorrow. but before we get tomorrow, today we will see the temperatures climb to 35 degrees by noon. getting to the 39 by 1 or 2:00 this afternoon and backing off to 35 degrees by 6:00 p.m. as the skies continue to clear. 45 degrees for the high. rest up, relax, get ready because here comes the next snow. 35 degrees for the high on saturday. the snow overnight friday into saturday that could be significant as i said. the skies clear how the and the clouds return with it and the possibility of round 3 on tuesday with a high of 35 degrees. that means more snow, guys. fox 45 sky watch weather is at available at your finger tips.

welcome back to fox 45 morning news. 8:29 is the time. i'm patrice harris. we're starting it morning talking about winter weather and whenever we have winter weather is usually means school closings and delays. and here is the list. anna run deal county, cat vert county, charles, dorchester, kent, prince george's, queen ann, and talbot county schools all closed this morning. that list has changed throughout the day so make sure you check our ticker for the complete list. allegheny county, baltimore city, baltimore county, carroll, cecil, frederick, howard, st. mary's somerset county, howard and worcester county schools opening two hours late. whenever we have severe weather tune to our ticker.

it updates automatic hecally and it -- automatically and it even runs during commercials. candace dold is here with a look at the traffic edge report. >> reporter: it's difficult to get out from underneath those sheets, but if you do get out, we want to show you what it looks like in baltimore county around rogers forge. right around that turn it's going to be slushy. this is pretty much the case for most of the secondary roadways. it's the little patches and that's the reason to use caution this morning. we can see the cars are traveling and no problems to report. as for the main line, well, we do want to check in on 95 moving right through the baltimore region. here it is at the 895 merge. the cars are coming do you want pike and it looks to be incident free. just favorable conditions. the main lines, checking on the southbound side from the fort mchenry tunnel toward the beltway, volume just increasing,

but not bad. once you approach the beltway on the top end from 95 toward 83, a 12 minute at 48 miles per hour. from 83, making that push all the way toward 795, so far so good, 8 minutes, 54 miles per hour, but of course, these are the posted speeds, but you do not need to travel that fast. just be sure to use extra caution. that's a look at the morning travels. now we do need to get a check of the weather with meteorologist steve fertig. candace, that was the first of three weather events in one week we expect to see move through here. there it is moving off the atlantic ocean. that is what we had yesterday. accord to the future scan, we will see drier conditions by this afternoon and peaks of sun shiek. sunshine. after that what is coming our way. we get a bit of a break tomorrow and then the onset of more snow coming up the coast. this one could resemble the one of december 19th, what we called the blizzard of '09.

it could be similar to that. it's setting up similarly. we are watching closely. otherwise, we are looking at what we had last night. 3-5 inches of snow. some areas picking up six inches of snow overnight and into this morning. we are drying outlooking to partly sunny skies, 39 degrees for the high today but we're keeping our eye on the system off the texas gulf coast area. let's send it back to you, patrice. you saw it falling last night when you went to bed and this morning all of that snow is making for a slippery commute if you have to head out. megan gilliland is live in baltimore county with a look at how things are shaping newspaper rogers forge. you are so productive, you cleared the whole street. look at that, it's clean. >> reporter: it's very good out here patrice. what a difference since earlier this morning. take a look at the side roads. this is amazing from 5:00 with all the slush and snow all over the place. very different story right now.

the back roads and the neighborhoods here in downtown canton. you can see someone waiving here this morning. that is the good news, they're getting out and shoveling out the snow and getting out and about. that's a look at from canton, back to you in the studio. thank you, jessica. we're not seeing a whole lot of activity out there right now. it was different earlier this morning when we had the snow moving through. right now we are seeing light snow here and there. that's about it. otherwise we have an activity this morning. that has moved off to the east with a couple of snow showers. as far as the heaviest snow there's one spot that saw 6 and a quarter inches to the south of salisbury. otherwise, an inch .33 downtown and the area 4 to 5 inches which is what chief meteorologist vytis reed was calling for last

night. up toward the northwest part of the state around taneytown, 3.75 there and 4.25 in thurmond as we travel around the quarter of periphery of the state. and 2-3 inches up their way. here is what we're looking at right now. as i saidism improvement with temperatures that are -- as i saidism improvement with temperatures that are near freezing. this system has moved off to the east. we're looking forward to high pressure building in. what that will do is clear the skies out later today all looking just fine, for now. here is what is coming our way for friday night into saturday. that is the low pressure center as it moves along the coast and may very well be one that looks very much like the one that brought us all of that snow back on december 19th for the blizzard of '09. we are going to watch in the low pulls up in the atlantic. if it comes up the coast, it brings us significant snow fall. lots of moisture coming our way

it looks like with the cold air in place. we are talking about the gulf being for business, the weather business. that means that there's significant snow possibility for friday night into your saturday especially. for today, a northwest wind at 5-15 miles per hour. the skies should clear this afternoon, should turn part partly cloudy to partly sunny. back to the west, about the same 39 unless you're looking into the higher elevation areas in which it could be cooler and could be a couple of up slope showers there. tonight clear skies, 26 degrees for the overnight with a northwest wind at 5-10 miles per hour. 39 degrees for the high today which will come sometime between 12 and 2:00, 35 degrees for the noontime temperature and the temperatures back up to 35 at 6:00 as the skies continue to clear. 37 on your friday with some snow moving in friday night and into your saturday. then again the heavy snow for saturday and then 31 degrees
