schools will close three hours early and cecil county schools are closing at 1:00. that's a big list with lots of different times. just remember whenever severe weather hits tune in to fox 45 morning news, because our ticker will have all of that information and the departures and traffic conditions. the ticker update automatically and even runs during commercials. steve fertig is here with a look at the weather that everybody is talking about and keeping an eye on it. we are talking about closing doors. everybody wants to close doors to mother nature. you will love the snow and in which case we have sky watch radar with snow on the place. moisture moves in for later this morning for the southern counties. for the northern counties late morning early afternoon to start to see things pick up a little bit. picking up in intensity by this evening is overnight especially. you see rain to the south where it's green in north carolina but as it moves into the colder air

it turns into snow. we should be left with 18-25 inches of snow on the west side of the chesapeake about 12 to 18 inches of snow. 6 or more inches of snow as you go further south in the eastern shore with sleet mixing in for the start of this event. we will let you know exactly how much you will end up with a total and when those totals come in as far as what time of day you see the most in just a few minutes. right now here is candace dold with the traffic edge. >> reporter: thank you, steve. due to the impending weather conditions we do have trouble to talk about on amtrak this morning. all of the service from baltimore to philadelphia, this corridor is a-okay, but most service south from washington d.c. is completely canceled. we will continue to keep up-to-date if we get any other information but that is the unfortunate reality right now. also, we need to talk about the mta buses, the commuter bus service in the afternoon is running 3 hours early today, so

keep that in mind. and then there's trouble on the rails, the marx train camden line, train 852 is canceled, on brunswick, train 857 is canceled as well. extra trains will be making stops but just expect major delays. now we do want to talk about the roadways of course, and show you what is happening out there. here is 95 moving at 395, you can see the pace is already picking up there especially on the southbound lanes heading down toward the beltway for the entire southbound stretch from the fort mchenry tunnel heading to 695, looking at an 8 minute clip, bief mile 55 miles. that's a look at the morning commute. patrice, back over to you. with a major winter blast expected to hit just hours from now, road crews are already in full swing preparing to keep up with mother nature. megan gilliland is live at the baltimore city falls road salt yard with more on the strategy of how you keep up with the

storm that is coming and coming. mounds of snow we are talking about. >> reporter: we're talking about a lot of snow. good morning, patrice, we're inside of the salt yard. the gate opened at 5:45 and take a look behind me. the dome is full, entirely full with salt. we are told over the next few days, they're going to use all of it, every last grain inside of this dome to make sure that our roadways are safe. this morning the calm before the storm. there are no trucks in here right now. we are told the crews are at home resting right now preparing for 12 hour shifts that will be beginning in just a few hours here. they got a big job ahead of them. we're talking about a major operation here this morning in the city over 300 workers will be out in full force. now their top priority is going to be the primary roads first. across our region, plow trucks are already loaded with salt and strategically located around. officials are gathering at emergency operations centers staring the storm in the eye. a lot of work to be done today

and there's even something you can do. >> don't go out. if you don't absolutely have to go out, i mean, that is a major, major help to the plows that they can get to the streets because there's not a lot of cars in the way, we can get the job done the way we want to get it done. >> reporter: now if you have to go out, aaa has 5 tips for you. number one dress as if you were going to be stranded. take a blanket, bring food and water, good idea to throw in a flashlight as well. if you are going to have to go and heat your car, make sure your garage door is open before starting the car. make sure that you have scrapers and shovels in your car, there will be snow piling up around you. check your antifreeze and never power hot water on anti lock or windows that are frozen that could cause them to crack.

sometimes we can be puzzled in the weather center but not today. we're pretty sure about this one. winter storm warning? place for the entire state of maryland that is from 10:00 a.m. this morning to 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night. there's a blizzard warning for the southern part of new jersey and southern part of delaware where the winds will be strong. they may see less snow than we do, because of the winds being stronger, it may be worse even there. in the meantime we are talking about significant snow. the winds have picked up a tad here. we expect the winds to pick up 10-15 miles per hour. during the day not too bad as you can plainly see. we are looking at the sky watch radar which is indicating snow in a couple of spots. looking a the eastern shore, there could be a little bit of sleet before it changes to plain snow. no stations reporting anything reaching the ground quite in d.c. the evidence of what appears to be some snow but taking a little bit of time before it moves in for later in the day. as you take a scan you can see down to the south and east a lot

of moisture in hour direction and thunderstorms in the gulf coast direction. for us, it's all of that snow that is coming our way and picking up in intensity the more we move into the latter part of the day and overnight. the high pressure moves in for later this morning for the southern counties as in the afternoon for the central counties. we will continue to watch the move more easterly today so it's going to take more of a west to east track. we thought it would take more of an east track. that will increase totals for some of you that are in the eastern shore compared to what we were thinking yesterday. still the heaviest snow expect to be to the west where we will see as much as 18 to 25 inches of snow on the west side of the chesapeake bay. 12-18 inches with 6 inches or more for the southern part of the eastern shore. as far as temperatures go, we're in the 30s this morning. low 30s for the most part and won't climb a whole lot from there. eastern shore getting to

6-8 inches with one inch during the day on the eastern shore. 3-4 inches during the day and tonight we pick up the more intense snow and we add to the totals quite a bit. for the southern part of the state 3-6 inches of snow. there's the 8-12 additional itches for tonight and over night. 27 for the overnight low, and we add another 4-7 tomorrow. and 29 degrees on sunday, part hely cloudy, 32 on monday -- partly cloud and 32 on monday. more snow possible for monday into wednesday but not as intense a storm and 37 degrees by your thursday. sky watch weather is available at your finger tips. can you use fox 45 powerful doppler radar to track the incoming storms. the interactive tools will let you know when the snow is over your house. go to foxbaltimore.com and click on iradar. here is candace dold with the track edge. >> reporter: thank you, steve.

the impending winter weather is taking a toll on the raise. -- rails. in fact the amtrak service from washington d.c. has been canceled this morning. we will continue to keep you up-to-date on that one and whatever else we get into our newsroom because there's a lot of information. the mta buses, the commuter buses in the afternoon are going to be running three hours early. keep your eyes peeled for that bus this afternoon. marx train camden line train 852 is canceled and marx train brunswick line, train 857 is canceled. there's extra trains that are running to accommodate passengers, but expect major delays out on the rails today. as for what is happening on the roads, well, let's check on speeds. right now at 65 miles per hour at 95 at 395, 59 and 58 on the west side of the beltway, not too many complaints as of yet. we do have a new traffic pattern to talk about and it's all because of road work that does take out that left turn lane

from southbound charles street on to the inner loop side of 695. to get around all of this you will want to go to the balon avenue roundabout and take it up to york road and eventually get back on the beltway. checking on 83 moving through the area, checking it on the northbound southbound stretch, moving conditions on the southbound lanes approaching the 695 exit. once you finally do get on the beltway moving through pikesville right now. we can show the area at greenspring avenue, cars are starting to filter in, no delays, though. that's a look at morning travels, patrice, back over to you. thank you, candace. coming up president obama asked congress to change gears this year. >> we're dedicating this year to a lot of things but our number one emphasis is creating jobs. why

the $787 billion stimulus package was supposed to create as many as 3 million jobs. in the last quarter of 2009, 600,000 jobs were created. some are questioning whether that is true or whether the jobs would have been there without the billion dollars bail out. armstrong williams joins us for the washington wrap. good morning, armstrong. >> reporter: good morning, patrice.

>> what is up with the numbers, are there new jobs being created as a result of this stimulus or jobs that have been saved because of it? >> the admnistration reported that in 2009 in the last quarter that over 60 600,000 jobs are created from the stimulus money. and the question is whether or not those jobs would have existed without the money. the obama admnistration went back to redo their numbers and they came back with different numbers. then the people that received the stimulus money that were supposed to create the jobs they had the systems in place that were supposed to report exactly where the jobs were created and how to the economy was being stimulated. when the people started looking at the numbers, they were looking at jobs that were created. they are were looking at situations where jobs were lost and situations where the jobs may have been created by the stimulus money, but there was no clear indication that as many jobs as the admnistration has

indicated was created by the stimulus money. they did without any fanfare and a low key manner. vice president joe biden made a statement but the "new york times," got a big story on the fact that what they are reporting and what is indicated is not the case. >> i'm sorry. >> so it's not that there aren't jobs being created but there needs to be a better standard of how it's measured so we get a better idea of how much impact the syste stimulus money is hav. >> reporter: the issue is whether the jobs would have been lost without the syste stimulus. the stimulus money was sent to state governments and many used the money to make up for their short falls. what has happened is that many of them have not been able to report any jobdz tha jobs that n created. it's becoming a sticking news.

a report of where the jobs were created. i got it tell you something, they could find not one of these places that created jobs. when you're talking about a job creation bill, people are asking how is the stimulus money creating jobs? it's slow and it's being bogged down with the by u beurre beurr. it now requires 1 or 2 people. i know that people do it. i don't know how they can examine this that technology has displaced 1 million workers in this economy. >> armstrong, i have a feeling you're always going to have a job, though. have a good weekend and try to make it through all of the snow. >> reporter: i'm on my way to the super bowl. >> we don't want to hear that. have a good time. if you are trying to make it out in the snow, there's movies opening that you might want to

are going to go through all of it. there was not much salt left in hereafter the earlier storm and throughout the week they have filled it in here. right now it's calm here. it's the calm before the storm, but we are expecting the crews to wake-up from their long rest and prepare for what could be a long weekend for them. in addition to all of the road situations that have are going. we have ed mcdonough here with me and you guys are busy, busy. >> we have had conference calls the last two days with all of the local emergency managers around the state, the national weather service and our department state ages. we will have -- agency. we will have another one at 11:00 to find out if there's any needs that the managers anticipate. >> reporter: it's recommended that people stay home if they can. what else can folks watching what can they do to make sure they're safe. >> i guess there's been a big run at the grocery stores. if you don't have the essentials to get through the weekend at

and it's pretty rough in here. does it get crazy during the winter. everybody gets crazy when they snow thknow the snow is coming. >> they come and spend all of their money and then it don't snow so they're broke. >> reporter: good morning, patrice, i know that i can get all of that list together and i can haul it all using the shovel. >> it's interesting that the people go for the comfort foods. you are not talking about a run on the seafood aisle or the deli counter. you're talking. >> reporter: there's plenty of salad dressing here. that's not a problem. i know what you're saying. they did double up their orders so they will have plenty here for at least today. tomorrow could be another challenge for them. >> you are going to have to take us down the toilet paper aisle. that's another place that people make a run for it, literally. >> reporter: we will keep an eye on it. coming up congress works on

witwelcome back. 6:42 on this friday morning. we're checking out the winter storm warning in place for the entire state of maryland and points north and south as well. that is from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night. a blizzard warning for the southern part of new jersey, where the winds will be strong up there, but the snow totals may not be as great. they may be dealing with more of a problem than we are even though we have the snow fall totals. we do expect it to get windier later in the day. by this evening, 15-25-mile-an-hour winds gusting to 40. that will create blowing snow as well, not a good scenario. sky watch hd radar, indicating snow trying to move out of the d.c. area, but no reporting sites showing us anything of the kind falling there. we check out to the south and east, we have sleet falling there as well, but no sites or weather sites reporting anything

reaching the ground quite yet. it will, soon enough for the southern counties. it will move in this morning by probably, 9, 10:00 a.m. and for the northern counties as soon as 10:00 or into the early afternoon as high pressures moves into the east. in comes the snow for this evening. that is when we expect the most intense snow come our way. notice the green on to the south. the low pressure center is taking more of an easterly jog now rather than up the coast. it still means we get significant snow out of it, because it doesn't affect cities as boston as much o. we get our share of snow, but it brings our share of h snow. this area in here is where we expect to see the most snow right there for tonight into tomorrow morning and how much snow you may be wondering. of course, we all are. 18-25 inches of snow is what we're expecting on the west side of the chesapeake bay. it's looking more clear like it should pan out pretty well.

a foot to a foot 1/2 for the eastern shore. it's looking more than what we thought there. 6 or 8 inches for the eastern shore where sleet will be a factor as we get cold air into all of the layers of the atmosphere. 30 in salisbury, 33 in hagerstown, temperatures don't budge a whole lot today. 36 to the eastern shore. but the story is the snow on the way. an inch of snow for the daytime hours in the eastern shore. central part of the state, about 2-4 inches during the daytime hours and then we're going to talk about the increasing intensity for tonight that will add to the totals. back to the west, daytime totals only 3-6 inches with 30 degrees for the high temperature and tonight, 27 degrees, that is when we tack on the 8-12 inches additional snow and then probably another 4-8 inches beyond that for tomorrow morning before it tapers off into the afternoon. 30 degrees for tomorrow's high compared to today's 34. colder on sunday but a whole lot drier, partly cloudy. we have a couple of days to

unemployment is in double digits. while most lawmakers agree that getting people back to work is job number one, how to make that happen is a matter of debate between democrats and republicans. the senate is set to yo unveil a job package next week. and elijah cummings is here this week. before we start talking about

unemployment, there's a big storm coming this weekend and you have an event that is going to be postponed. >> we were going to have our foreclosure prevention tomorrow, and because of the snow we are not going to be able to do it. we have rescheduled for wood lawn high school starting the 20th of this month. we will be getting out the announcements. >> people definitely need that kind of help and people need jobs. and the president said he wants to get the job package moving. how do you begin to make that happen? >> the house has passed a jobs package and the senate leader, harry reed and the leadership, announced yesterday that they will be introducing a job package come this week. >> right. >> and our package is one where that sort of coincides with the president's. we are reducing taxes for those businesses that create new jobs, because you want to incentiveize

small businesses because the majority of new jobs come from small businesses to not only create new jobs but to lift up wages. the other thing that we have done which would could inside with -- coincide with the president, but the idea of taking money from the tarp that has been paid by the banks and passing it on to community banks. community banks like the harbor banking in baltimore and many of those, didn't get caught up in this mess with regard to these risky loans. and so we want to get money to those community banks and allow them to make loans to small businesses. a lot of small businesses can't get to work, they don't have the money to do the work. >> let me ask you about the small businesses and the tax breaks. what do you say to the business owner who you say, it's not enough or worth it to me, because it's going to cost me more to hire that person and pay that person for a full year versus the tax incentive we are

10:00 p.m. tomorrow night. it's for the entire state. meanwhile there's a blizzard warning to show you the entire tarpart of new jersey where the winds may be strong but the snow may not be as much. moving points north later, 2-4 inches of snow during the daytime. then we add to that by about 8-12 inches with an additional 4 to 8 on top of that leaving us 18 to almost 25 inches of snow or maybe even a little bit more in spots. we will take a look at where those locations will be for the heaviest snow in just a few minutes. right now here is candace dold with the traffic edge. candace, it's coming. >> reporter: it is. today is the day, i guess. if you're heading out and hitting the razor the railroads. you need to listen up because the impending weather is causing issues with amtrak. most service south from washington d.c. has already been completely canceled today.

and then, also some trouble on the marx train as well. on the camden line, train 852 has been canceled. then on the brunswick line, train 857 has been canceled as well. now extra trains will run, but again, be aware that it's going to cost you some extra time. as for mta buses, the commuter bus service in the afternoon is actually going to run 3 hours early. just keep your eyes peeled for that bus this afternoon. check out the roadways, 695 at liberty road not much to plane about, no snow and the cars are cruising along on the inner and outer loop lanes. from 795 running toward 95, running normal, 11 minutes at gyre automobilemiles per hour. that's a look at morning travels, patrice, back over to with a major winter blast expected to hit just hours from now, road crews are already in full swing preparing to keep up with mother nature.

megan gilliland is live at the baltimore city falls road salt yard with more on what you keep up with mother nature. i think she has the advantage. >> reporter: i think that i am in the right spot here, patrice. the salt yard is open. it opened their gates at 5:45 is morning. i tell you what, they have this thing loaded to the rim here. you remember the last snowstorm this was completely empty. now they're stocked back up. the trucks have not yet arrived. many of the crew workers actually sleeping, resting because they have a very hectic weekend ahead of them, 12-hour chifts to begishifts to begin aa huge weekend ahead of them. over 300 workers will be out in full force. their top priority will be the primary roads first. across our region plow trucks are loaded with salt and strategically located all over place. state highway officials say they will be using a new weapon this

year to battle mother nature today. >> don't go out if you don't absolutely have to go out. i mean, that is a major, major help to the plows. if they can get to the streets because there's not a lot of cars in the way, we can get the job done the way we want to get it done. >> reporter: now, if you do have to go out, aaa has 5 tips for you. check these out. number one, dress as if you are going to be stranded. ma teens take a blanket -- that means, take a blanket, have a water bottle and throw in a flashlight. if you go out to heat your car, make sure your garage door is open before starting to prevent the carbon monoxide from building up. make sure to pack the scrapers and the shovels in your car. there will be snow accumulating and never pour hot water on doors, locks and windows if they

yesterday and crazy this morning. i was surprised to see it so crowded this morning. >> reporter: super bowl here and we have been talking to the owner. they make a lot of money on the snow days. the challenge is getting people to and from work. obviously, they have to deal with the snow as well. this place has been opened all night long. they have been restocking throughout the morning. those empty aisles you saw at another location. it's not happening here. you know what people are buying, the milk, the meats. they know that they are going to be inside for a while and the super bowl, too. >> why do people he go for the o people go for the milk. do you drink milk in large amounts. why is that what you want in a snowstorm. why not juices or soda. >> reporter: it's a perishable. even though the sale by date is 10 days ahead, i guess people, think it's a perishable.

reaching the ground according to the weather stations that i have been looking at. you can see we have plenty of moisture headed in our direction. that is the reason for all of the high snow totals that we have been talking about potentially coming your way especially and into tomorrow. there will be snow before that. take a look at the future scan as the high pressure moving off to the east. the southern counties as early as 10:00 this morning and for the rest of us later this morning or early afternoon picking up in intensity and notice the green moving off to the east as it stays south indicating the warmer layer of air is. sleet is the possibility for the eastern shore but quickly turning into plain snow as if now it takes more of an easterly track rather than what we would were thinking a northeasterly rack. what we're looking is the snow being the heaviest right in here especially for the west side of the chesapeake bay. here is a look at the snow fall totals. we are expecting the heaviest snow being on the we have side of the chesapeake bay including baltimore county and further

points west. we have up the totals northeast as we go to the northern part of the eastern shore, 12-18 inches. and six inches to the southern part of the eastern shore. we are looking again at a healthy dose of snow for tonight and into tomorrow especially. 39 degrees for the temperatures in baltimore. here is where we are headed. temperature is not the issue. it will be cold enough to snow. picking up an inch of he snow at th-- of snowfor the daytime hou. 34 degrees with 2-4 inches of snow by this afternoon. we should be picking up that amount and further points west look for as much as 3-6 inches of snow with a high temperature of 36 degrees. 27-degrees is when we add another 8-12 itches o12 inches d

avenue eventually up to york road and then you can get back on the beltway there. traveling on the beltway moving at har toure harford road. let's show you what that area looks like, so far not a bad ride, inner and outer loop lanes moving along and a lot of room between those cars. at pulaski highway, pretty empty inner and outer loop lanes are looking good, not

4-8 inches. and tomorrow tapering off, in the afternoon 18-25 inches. we will take a look at what that snowstorm is coming up in a next. here is the traffic report. >> reporter: amtrak service is already seeing disruptions. most service south from washington d.c. has already been completely canceled there. as for the baltimore, philadelphia corridor, we don't have any incidents to report there. we will keep our fingers crossed and keep you up-to-date, of course. the marx train camden line is affected as well. right now train 85 852 852 is cd on the brunswick line train 857 is canceled. they have additional trains but it's going to cause extra delays. the commuter services in the afternoon, those buses will run 3 hours earlier than the regular

schedule. as to the roadways what is happening right now. let's check 895 and 95, the coast is clear on the southbound and the northbound stretch toward the beltway. the entire southbound stretch from the fort mchenry tunnel toward the beltway looking good 8 minutes at 55 miles per hour. crystal clear on southbound 895 as well from the harbor tunnel toward 95, 9 minutes and 55 miles per hour. now as for the west side of the beltway, the usually dreaded area, not so much this morning. 54 miles per hour with an 11-minute ride from 795 all the way down toward 95. that is a look at your morning travels. patrice, back over to you. we are just a few hours away from what will be a major winter storm. road crews spent all of yesterday preparing and today it's time to put it all in action. megan gilliland is live at baltimore h city salt yard with

more about on how you stay ahead of a storm this big. good morning, megan. >> reporter: good morning, patrice, so far so good. no snow flakes to talk about yet. as soon as the first snow flake falls, this place is going to be packed. take a look behind me. they have all of the salt they need. this dome filled to the top here. we are told that right now the crews are actually at home resting up waiting for the snow to fall. once that starts happening, they're going to be busy working 12-hour shifts, long, long weekend, almost throughout this entire storm here. it's a very big job. we're talking about a major operation. just in the city over 300 workers out in full force. their top priority is going to be the primary roads first. across the region plow trucks are loaded with the salt and vat tegcall--strategically located . officials are gathering at operation centers staring this storm? the eye. >> the storm will be heavier so there may be more power outages.

it's easy. i found out the reason for the serial. this is -- cereal. this is busy for 7:00 in the morning. >> we have a shot online order santoni's and we have maxed out our delivery slots. we have 30 orders and we're trying to get those out as soon as we can before the roads get too bad. >> reporter: you have the truck coming in tonight at what time? >> it's due at 11:00, but we are going to try to get it in by 9:00. 1200 pieces which is double our normal size order. >> reporter: you see right there. yes you got to get the snow shovel. we only have three of those left in the entire place. a little bit of both, super bowl stock up and snow stock up as well. >> you were talking earlier about the people who work there. they have to get home and get out at sm some point.

7:44. getting closer to the snow making its way into your neighborhood. take a look. here is the winter storm warning in place for the entire state of maryland. that is from 10:00 a.m. this morning through tomorrow night at 10:00 p.m. it should be a whole lot less as we get into the part of tomorrow. a winter blizzard warning in delaware and new hampshire. we will get the heaviest snow totals. meanwhile the wind around here not too bad though they are expected to pick up. we call it a blizzard it needs to get to 35 miles per hour and be sustained as 35 miles per hour for a 3 hour period of

time. we will see if this qualifies as it gets closer. right now you see what appears to be snow moving into the area and sleet in the southern part of the eastern shore but not reaching the ground according to the weather stations so far. we will keep an eye because as the atmosphere starts to saturate we begin to see the snow moving its way to the surface. in comes the snow later this morning and into the afternoon and especially i will tonight when it gets more intense. greens to the south where the warmer air is, plain rain there and it's moving off to the east. some of the rain is moving to the middle layers, perhaps. but the rest of us i think is going to start as snow and it will quickly turn over to snow this later morning and into the afternoon. you will see the intensity continuing. this track is going to the east and earlier than expected instead of coming up the coast. maybe boston gets away without having to deal with this. but we will have to deal with it.

with the northeast flow, more of us as points west of the chesapeake bay get heavier doses than earlier expected. we have upped the totals. 8-25 inches of snow is what we are expecting on the west side of the chesapeake bay. on the eastside now looking at 12-18 inches of snow, down to the southern part of the west side of the chesapeake to the south 12-18 as well. 6 inches or more for the eastern shore where again, we get a little bit more in the way of sleet mixing in early on. otherwise, temperatures this morning, 35 degrees in baltimore the same for d.c. 35 in salisbury. hopefully you won't be out in this cold air because the snow is to follow shortly. you're looking at 1 inch of snow of snow during the daytime hour, i emphasize that because the snow will pick up through the evening. we could have 3-4 inches of snow and we will add to that tonight

quite a bit. back to the west looking at a high. 3-6. and tonight we add 8-12 inches of snow on to the totals. 27 degrees for the overnight low with a 15-35-mile-an-hour wind as the winds pick up and gust higher. 30 degrees for tomorrow's high temperature with snow early on and maybe 4-8 inches additional to what i have just told you for the morning hours before it begins to taper off into the afternoon leaving us with the 18-25-inch total. 25 degrees for the high on sunday. partly cloudy, 32 on monday and more snow. more moves in tuesday, late in the day into wednesday. this time around i don't think it will be nearly as heavy as what is coming for the weekend. let's see what is happening on the roads with candace dold. she has the traffic edge, candace. >> reporter: thank you, steve. this winter weather is causing problems already this morning on amtrak, in fact, most service south from washington d.c. has already been canceled. as far as the commute from

baltimore to philadelphia, no major issues and we will continue to keep you abreast of that situation. now as for other areas, well, the marx train camden line is seeing problems as well. train 852 is canceled. on the brunswick line, train 8 given is canceled. the good news there is that they will be making extra stops those trains that are there. you will be at least be able to get through but it's going to be an extra heavy delay there. mta buses, the commuter bus service in the afternoon will be three hours early so make sure to watch out your bus later this afternoon. let's talk about the roads and what is happening right now. as for the actual speeds so far not too bad. 62 miles per hour on 95 moving through baltimore. 49 at the whitemarsh region and at 59 traveling on the top end of the beltway at parkville. we do have a new traffic pattern that we need to make you aware of. it's road work that completely blocks the left-hand turn lane from southbound charles street on to the inner loop direction

of 695. now to get around all of this and go up to the roundabout, head on to balon and hop on to york road and eventually you can get on the beltway there. check out the region moving through pikesville at greenspring avenue. here it is a lot of cars coming do you want pike on the outer loop lanes, so far no brake lights to talk about. as you finally make the bend down to 795 at liberty road, so far not too bad.

dismissed two hours and 45 minutes early. now, closing three hours late today baltimore city, howard and prince george's county. frederick county schools will close 3 1/2 hours early. cecil county middle and high schools are closing at 1:00. the elementary schools in cecil county are closing at 2:00. and caroline and queen ann's county schools have half a day. again, that list is ever changing throughout this morning. and it's a big list with a lot of different times. be sure to take a look our ticker. wherever there's severe weather tune in to us here on fox 45 morning news. our news ticker has the latest closings and traffic delays and conditions. it update automatically and even runs during commercials. as we have been telling you all morning, this is such a significant snowstorm, fox 45 morning news will have special coverage of the winter blast tomorrow morning. make sure you tune in to us starting at 6:00 a.m. and we're going to stay on the air until

about 1 in the afternoon bringing all the latest on the forecast, the conditions on the roadways and all the closings and delays, everything you need to know about the snow, of course, while you stay warm and kafortable icomfortable in your. meteorologist steve fertig is here and he is going to be aiz y man the next couple of days. >> reporter: we have a lost moisture coming from the south and east from the gulf. it's going to be bringing us the heavy snow and we have a winter storm warning for the entire state of maryland and north and south from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night. even a blizzard warning for the southern part of delaware and the eastern part of new jersey. those folks will deal with stronger winds. those winds will pick up for us, too. cloudy skies and the temperatures are not changing a whole lot. that is hardly the matter. it's all this that snow will begin later this morning. by foon he w noon we will see it

throughout the area. by 6:00 p.m., the intensity will pick up as well. we will talk about how much snow in a few minutes. right now candace dold has the traffic edge. candace. >> reporter: this winter blast is causing problems out there, especially on the rails this morning. in fact for amtrak most service south from washington d.c. has already been canceled. now the good news is there are no major issues to talk about from baltimore all the way up toward philadelphia. so that is at least a glimmer of hope for you. now let's talk about other issues out there. the marx train camden line, train 852 has been canceled. on the brunswick line, train 857 has been canceled as well. there are trains running but again, just expect major delays. now for the mta buses, the commuter bus service in the afternoon is actually going to pick up passengers three hours early so keep your eyes out. that's a look at the morning

travels, patrice, back over to you. with that major winter blast expected to hit just hours from now, road crews are already in full swing preparing to keep up with mother nature. megan gilliland is live at the baltimore falls road salt yard in north baltimore to tell us how do you stay on top of a storm like this. i see they got a lot of salt to help them in the process. >> reporter: they got a lot of snow, patrice. it's kind of an eerie feeling out here as we get close to the snowstorm. right now no snow falling, but you can hear behind me a lot going on at this hour. we have the first trucks that have come and loaded already. they are headed to the roads preparing. you can see, they have a lot of salt here to get them out and on the roads. it's a big job ahead of them. a major operation ahead of them. in the city there's going to be 300 workers out in full force. the top priority when they head out on the salt yard is going to be the primary roads first

across the region. the plow trucks some of them are already loaded with salt and strategically located around. highway officials are going to be using a new weapon to battle mother nature today. >> these oshkosh, very large dump trucks that have a front plow and a side plow. that's a good reason never to pass a plow truck because you never know where the blades are. they could be covered in snow. we may have to bring them in the metro area depending on what happens. >> reporter: we talked to mima officials, they say if you don't have to leave your home stay home this weekend. stay inside. if you do have to leave, we have tips to keep you save that are on our website. check them out at foxbaltimore.com. meanwhile they are predicting this could be a historic storm. there could be heavy snow as well which could cause power out ages ages. outages. be prepared.

some people have to get out there because they have to get to the gros grocery store. if that is you, you need to get out. yesterday the store was packed. and later at that same store, melinda took pictures showing us that the aisles were more crowded at that point. how do the grocery stores look today. joel d smith is live at santo's at east baltimore and this is it. >> reporter: that is why everybody is here. these are very busy aisles right now, very busy check outlines. people are getting ready for the super bowl, they're getting ready for the snow and they're buying up the place. we had some reserved food come in a little bit ago. there were el empty aisles, and people are gobbling it up. we are talking about bread. people are getting ready for pizza. that is packed. a lost soda and of course, what is underneath? underneath is the toilet paper

saturated so it's not reaching the ground. go to our facebook site and let us know as soon as you see any snow falling. you may see it even before the weather stations get it. we appreciate your help there. meanwhile d.c. seeing a little bit of activity starting to move into that location as well. we will continue to see, it looks like more snow through the afternoon as the intensity up. more of that moisture is coming up from the gulf of mexico. high pressure moves off to east. originally we thought this storm was going to take a more northeasterly kind of trajectory. instead it's going to be taking more of an easterly movement. as it does that, it will bring more snow totals into the eastern shore as well as what we originally thought it would be which will still be high snow totals on the west side of the chesapeake bay. it will be he hassie he easier . 18-25 inches of west side of the

chesapeake and even the southern part of the chesapeake side on the west side. 12-18 inches is what we are thinking rather than what we were saying yesterday. 6 inches or more for the southern part of the eastern shore. these systems change in direction. that is why we want to update things as we go here. that is what we have done. 35 degrees the temperature right now in baltimore and d.c. generally speaking low 30s throughout the area. the temperatures not the main focus. rather it's the snow and we expect to pick up an inch of snow for the eastern shore during the daytime hours. i emphasize daytime hours, because the bulk of the snow is going to come during the day. 3-4 inches during the daytime the central part of the state. back to the west 3-6 inches during the daytime ending at overnight. 8-12 inches tonight and add aing more to that. temperatures dropping to 27 tonight. certainly keeping it cold enough and 4-8 inches more tomorrow especially in the morning hours we could see flurries left over

in the afternoon or evening. 32 monday, 34 as in some more snow moves in late in the day wednesday, but then not expecting fearly as much snow. 37 degrees on thursday as we dry out then. let's see what is happening on the roadways with candace dold. she is here with the track edge. >> reporter: thank you, steve. this winter weather is already causing problems out on amtrak it morning. most service from south of washington d.c. is completely canceled already. now as for the baltimore to philadelphia line, there are no problems to report, so at least that is a glimmer of hope for you. we also need to talk about the marx train as well on the camden line right now, train 852 has been canceled. now there are extra trains running that will pick passengers up, it will be major delays. on the marx train brunswick line train 857 has been canceled. same deal. you will be able to get a ride. it's going to take you extra

action. let's take a look at the list. allegheny county, charles county, garrett county and st. mary's county schools have already decided to close for the day. the following school districts are closing two hours early. anne arundel county, harford county schools closing two hours early. montgomery county and howard county closing 2 1/2 hours early. carroll county schools are being dismissed 2 hours and 40 minutes early. and closing 2 hours -- 3 hours howard and prince jog george's s county. see celcecil county high closint 1:00. it's a big list. make sure that when something is going on like this with severe weather tune in to fox 45 morning news because our morning ticker will have all of the latest information.

that ticker updates automatically and even runs during the commercials. because there's so much going on and we want to keep you informed, fox 45 morning news will have special coverage of the winter blast tomorrow morning. tune in starting at 6:00 a.m. and we're going to stay on the air until 1 in the afternoon bringing you the latest on the forecast, the conditions on the roadways, and all of the closings and delays. so you get to stay safe and warm at home, while we bring you all the information. meteorologist steve fertig has all of the information that people want to know. when is the snow coming? how much and when is it going away. it's coming this morning for the southern counties and then into the central counties. we have been talking about the winter storm warning over the state of maryland. i want to you show you the expand, through ohio, and west virginia and southern and northern carolina.

we put this into motion, for later had morning and into the -- this morning and into the afternoon. here is the way to time things out. look for as much as 2-4 inches of snow. 8-12 inches tonight. aiming for 4-8 inches more tomorrow morning and tapering off tomorrow later in the day tomorrow. certainly there's huge totals that will be in our forecast. now for a look at what is happening on the roadways. candace dold has the traffic edge. >> reporter: thank you, steve. we are talking about trouble already because of these impending winter weather conditions. in fact, on amtrak most service south from washington d.c. has already been canceled today. now as for the corridor from baltimore to philadelphia, no problems to report. now we do have trouble though to talk about on the mark train camden line right now. train 8:52 has been completely canceled. then on the brunswick line, train 857 has been canceled as well. there are extra trains that will

make stops, but it's just going to be major delays there. and then the mta commuter buses this afternoon, they will actually be running three hours earlier than that normal schedule. that is a look at your travels, patrice, back over to you. ♪ ♪ we are just hours away now from what will be a major winter storm. road crews spent all of yesterday preparing and today it's show time. megan gilliland is live at the baltimore falls road salt yard with more on what exactly is going to happen today. it's quietest earlier. i see everybody now starting to come in and get ready. >> reporter: there are so many folks around here, patrice. no snow right now but these folks are ready in the event that the first snow comes down. take a look behind me. some of these trucks are putting the plows right now making sure they're equipped. once the plows are on, they're taking the trucks down here. they have the huge salt dome. i don't know if you can see it,

nter storm warning in place for 10:00 a.m. this morning until 10:00 p.m. tomorrow night. and of course, it involves everybody. who is going to get the most snow? we will take a look at in a moment. we will get strong wind in the southern part of delaware and new jersey where a blizzard warning is in place there. we expect the winds to pick up but not until later in the evening. expect them to pick up 15-25 miles per hour and gusting to 25 miles per hour tonight. that won't help with the blowing snow we could expect to see. meanwhile, viewing what appears to be snow moving into the area. no sites reporting that snow is reaching the ground. you would expect that with this

area in pink, could have saturated. that part beginning with the snow. we will continue to watch this. meanwhile it's coming from the moisture streaming up from the gulf of mexico and lots of it. that means heavy snow totals are possible. here is what we're looking at suffers surface features as high pressure slides off to the east. note the blue, and to the south milder. taking more of an easterly trajectory, other than what we expecting it more of an easterly trek. that means we need to up the totals for the north part of the eastern shore which will get more of the brunt of the storm than we originally thought. the west side of the chesapeake bay but even there we upped it a tad 18-25 inches possible or more. for the northern part of the eastern shore and on the west side the chesapeake bay to the south as much as 12-18 inches of snow. that is what we upped the total quite a bit. 6 inches or more for the

southeast part of the state. we are looking at the temperatures in the mid-30s. it will be cold enough as the temperatures drop through the day for plain snow. we almost could throw out that number and focus more on the snow with one inch of snow falling for the daytime hours. i want to emphasize that. that is during the daytime before the heavy snow comes tonight. for the central part of the state, 2-4 inches. by this afternoon you will see as much as four inches of snow and then we will add to the totals. a 3-4-inch total by this afternoon. 27 for the overnight low. 15 to 25 miles an hour winds which will be gusting to 35 miles per hour. there's the 12 inches additional to what we pick up 8 inches more on top of that by tomorrow morning with 30 degrees for the high. snow tapering with flurries later in the day. we will watch for the worning -- warning to expire. 32 on monday then the next

line, train 857 has been canceled. there's extra trains that are running but it's going to be backed up big time this afternoon. mta buses, the commuter bus in the afternoon will be running three hours earlier than its regular schedule. as for what is happening on the roadways, not too much to complain about there. 51 miles per hour on 95 and the northeast corner through whitemarsh. look at this, over the speed limit a little bit traveling on the beltway at harford road. we do need to talk about a bit of a slow down and it's because of a traffic pattern near towson. in fact, it's road work that blocks that left turn lane from southbound charles street into the inner loop direction of 695. to get around the mess go to the roundabout, hit belona york road and then back around the lanes of the belt way. after a week of voting for your favorite couple it all comes down to this. who will win our wedding in a week contest? before we announce the winner,
