easton and ocean city. southern maryland pax weather at 55. warm air from the south and it's going reach us. so we start mid-40s this morning. most of us try. there are showers out there, but i wanted to highlight the majority of the area where i think it moves in later this morning so by lunchtime if you have plans outside, you might need the rain gear carry it with you. but better chance of rain this afternoon and thunderstorms could mix in towards evening and notice temperatures reached the peak at 60. here's general setup. we have a very active flow here. and it's been this conveyor belt of moisture similar to the last storm pattern two weeks ago where the storm track passes north and west. and we stay on the warmer side with the moisture with the warm air and we will get that funneling out of the gulf of mexico reaching not carolina and charlotte and that heads in the direction with a band of rain stretching through virginia. no doubt it's going to get wet. but middle waves low pressure propagate along the front as the front slides to the east. we will get the passage of the

cold front but the main general pattern still to our west, still energy northern mexico and a lot of cold air back here across the northern plains. and just waiting to dive out of central canada. the pattern is set up to give us something. computer models seem to have lost the identity of the storm developing over the holiday weekend. but it's just starting to come back. we will get to that in a moment. this initial storm brings us heavier rain this afternoon and thunder mixed in and heading in through thursday and friday, another round of rain. two days near 60. the bottom is going to fall out. we will reach 54 on friday when the rain comes to evened in the morning. saturday right now an about face but looks good for the ravens game 45. and we develop the southern storm with the cold air in place and it does appear at least a higher chance tee wee get some snow as we head in through christmas day and snow showers and colder temperatures into early next week. so there is hope out there. 6:17 let's remind you that you can get the abc 2 weather app go online or go through your

vote. that's the big question. things are at a standstill. again, no compromise and no word if a vote will happen before the end of the year. come january 1st, if lawmakers can't work out a deal, you will see less money in your paycheck. if you may $50,000 a year, you will lose a thousand dollars from your paycheck. if you make 35,000 a year, you will see a 700 dollar tax increase. house republicans are at a stand off with leaders in the democratic controlled senate. they refuse to vote on the senate's version to extend the payroll tax cut for two months. house law makeers were sent home for the holiday break while the stalemate continues. >> enough is enough. the arrogance of this place is outstanding and unbelievable. you have to look at what we are talking about from the eyes of our constituents and the people back home two months of centery for people when it -- centery

and the real buzz this morning, as you mentioned, the possibility that ron paul could be the winner there. but new polling this morning shows how difficult his path after iowa might be. he might be 76. >> very nice. >> reporter: you could tell, he was feeling the mojo. albeit a ron paul type of mojo. >> i say get the government out of everybody's life. >> reporter: this libertarian, who wants to abolish medicare, who opposes almost all foreign intervention, but wants to legalize drugs, knows he has a shot in iowa. why? he told abc's jon karl, it's his supporters. >> they're very sincere and true believers. and they're going to be there. and they're not going to be sent away because the wind is blowing. >> reporter: a small army of young, committed disciples. but the problem, a bigger army, that's not fighting. in a new abc news poll, just 32% view him favorably.

35%, unfavorably. in 51% of republicans, his own party, don't think he has the temperament and character to serve. his for real status is raising questions about a newsletter he sent out in the '90s, with incendiary language. calling martin luther king day, hate whitey day. if he did win the caucuses, it could torpedo newt gingrich for good. and help mitt romney, who has fewer obstacles in new hampshire. overnight, gingrich lashed out at rommy. saying he couldn't control millions of dollars of negative ads being run by pro-romney backers. >> you know what makes barack obama happy? newt gingrich's baggage. >> it's his people, running his ads, doing his dirty work. >> reporter: if romney doesn't speak up? >> let it be clear, that mitt

romney will have failed again as a leader. >> reporter: overnight, word that gary johnson, the former governor of new mexico, will run as a third party libertarian. well, if ron paul would run as a third party libertarian, which he hasn't ruled out, our poll shows it would be a huge boost for president obama. >> have to get through the caucuses and primaries first. we saw rick santorum, the former senator of pennsylvania, campaign in all 99 counties in iowa. he got an endorsement from the social conservatives in iowa. >> they make up a huge block in iowa. if they ever were to coalesce around one candidate at the end, it could make a difference on january 3rd. rick perry even changed the name on his bus tour from get america working again, to faith, jobs and freedom. as you mention, the candidate who can claim the most momentum

or santorentum, as he calls it. if someone's going to outperform the polls, it might be rick santorum. >> still so wide-open, guys. now, to the search of the 20-month-old toddler in maine. ayla reynolds vanished over the weekend. and for the first time, her father is speaking out. abc's linsey davis has the latest. >> reporter: the father of missing toddler ayla reynolds isn't just speaking out, he's firing back. i have no idea what happened to ayla or who's responsible, he released in a statement overnight. i will not make accusations or insinuations towards anyone, until the police have been able to prove who is responsible. until now, all we knew of justin dipietro's story was through police. that on friday night, he put his 20-month-old daughter to bed. and in the morning, she was gone. trista reynolds said she was

concerned about ayla's safety at dipietro's house. she says the last time she saw ayla, she had unexplained bruises on her thighs. she says she and dipietro have not spoken since the toddler's disappearance. >> i've had no contact with him. he's had no contact with me. all i know is he's the last man to see my daughter. and all i want to know is where she is. >> reporter: but in what appears to be a classic case of he says/she says, dipietro writes, contrary to some statements floating around out there, i've been in communication with ayla's mother over the last couple weeks. the waterville police have the transcripts of my home forrer have kags of those communications. in a statement, dipietro does not address the accusations of child abuse. but says he has, quote, shared every piece of information possible with the police. investigators say both of ayla's parents are cooperating. meantime, tuesday, police continued their search for ayla, draining a section of stream near the home where she was last seen.

a soaking time in the southeast. and part of the east coast is going to be very wet for a couple days.

calls, her sister and cousin went looking for her. they found her backpack and phone on a picnic table. but she was nowhere to be found. >> something happened. either someone lured her away or she ran away on her own. >> reporter: investigators are asking the family, devout muslims, if her marriage to waseem was arranged against her will. >> she would not run away. she was happy with her life, with her new marriage. there wouldn't be a reason she would want to run away. >> reporter: khan's husband believes someone is holding her. >> let her go. you have the power to let her go. and i would completely forgive you if you let her go. >> reporter: her mother's only concern, khan's safe return. >> i'm just hoping that the bell rings and i'll see her. and the phone rings. she'll be right in front of my eyes. that's what i'm dreaming about. >> reporter: for now, all her family has to hold on to is that last voicemail message.

accurate by weatherate. we have a 50 spot in arnold and upper 40s from ellicott city to sparrows point. we have eastern shore warm air surging on the other side of the chesapeake with 55 in centerville. rain extreme lower portion of the eastern shore. this is south of cambridge heading on 50 through salisbury and bands of rain showers mainly in the north side. we have the heavier stuff up north of joshing and pennsylvania. while we watch the regional perspective we are considering this area of low pressure riding to the north and pulling in the tropical moisture and this will fill in a little more throughout the day. the air will stabilize a little bit and pumping up the warm moist air we could develop rumbles of thunder but it's the matter that we should probably have some steadier rains not the showers that burst for half- hour at a time. but hours on end of rain expected developing heading into the afternoon and we will deal with that boundary that tries to push through during the evening itself. overall we could expect rumble of thunder when the heavy stuff

comes through. late afternoon and through the evening, tapering down overnight a dry day tomorrow and neck round of rain thursday night through early friday morning. that's a 3 a.m. time stamp so by daybreak that next push could be gone. and then we start taking down the temperatures, and then we could have one final wave riding up the coast and that storm on christmas day could have snow with it. 60 today. we will push that warm temperature. late in the afternoon to the evening. and when the heaviest of the rain should occur and it will likely be be rumble of thunder that tapered down overnight and look for 48. temperatures back to knee 60 tomorrow pushing into the 50s on friday. again that rain ends in the morning. and saturday ravens game dry look for the chance of snow on christmas.
