city, looking across the delaware. no fog to deal with, no clouds overhead. just cold. 38 in northeast philadelphia and philadelphia international, 37 in trenton, pottstown, but look at millville. and atlantic city at the airport now in the middle 30s. a cold start any way you look at it this morning. we will, though, see sunshine to warm things up, and it will be warmer than yesterday. 39 degrees at 7:00. by 9:00, up near 50 degrees. and then into the upper 50s by lunchtime and still climbing at noontime today. in less than ten minutes, i am back with your neighborhood by neighborhood forecast, but right now, let's check in with first alert traffic reporter katy zachry. good morning, katy. >> good morning, bill. it is a chilly start to the morning, but i have some good news. no accidents to report on any of our area roadways. we're going to start things off 76 right near the conshohocken curve. as the morning progresses, this is typically a trouble spot, but right now, look at your drive times. 76 between the vine and the blue route in both directions under 15 minutes. you can't beat that. taking a look at the other stretches throughout our
roadways, typical trouble spot's 95, again, 76 and 476 looking good all throughout our area right now. and for new jersey drivers, this is a live look in haddon heights, route 30 right at i-295. we're definitely seeing traffic pick up on our area roadways, but no major volume to report. when i see you in a bit, we'll look at some delaware roads. new from overnight, investigators are trying to find the cause of a fire at this apartment building in north philadelphia. it started just after 11:00 last night on north camac street. everyone made it out safely. 5:32. it is election day eve. just over 24 hours until voters will go to the polls for the midterm elections across the country and in pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. nbc 10's jesse gary joins us now live in studio. jesse, you've been digging into an important race with national implications taking place in new jersey. tell us about it. >> that's right, chris. 13 months ago, garden state voters went to the polls and put former mayor cory booker into the u.s. senate.
he's now up to re-election. his one-year stint was due to a special election called for by governor chris christie, when he could have appointed someone to fill the term. senator frank lautenberg died while in office. he is running against jeff bell, who rose to prominence during the reagan era of the '80s. he is expected to be re-elected tomorrow and get a full six-year senate term to allow democrats to hold their slim majority in the u.s. senate. coming up next half hour, we did some researching into the pennsylvania governors race. that's coming up in 30 minutes. >> and we're looking at that race right now, jesse. in a final push for votes over the weekend, candidates for pennsylvania governor had big names campaigning with them. new jersey governor chris christie throwing his support behind tom corbett in ivyland, bucks county. governor christie called corbett a tough competitor who has lowered taxes and attracted new business to the state. and president obama came to temple university yesterday to rally support for democratic candidate tom wolf. the president says as governor,
wolf will fight for the people of pennsylvania. if wolf defeats corbett, it will be the first time a pennsylvania governor has lost re-election in nearly 45 years. you can count on nbc 10 for early returns, reaction and live reports. join us starting at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow. nbc 10's keith jones will be covering the corbett campaign in pittsburgh. liulu yawn can will be live in the wolf campaign. there are three big stories we're following this morning for you. >> pennsylvania state police are testing a rifle that was found inside that abandoned airport hangar where eric frein was caught last week. they're trying to determine if that is the weapon that was used to kill a state trooper and injure another one outside a state police barracks on september 12th. frein is charged with first-degree murder and many other charges. prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. later this week, septa and its largest workers union are expected to ratify a new contract. the two-year agreement was reached late friday, avoiding a strike. the contract includes a 5% raise for workers.
and later this morning in atlantic city, taj mahal casino workers are marching on city hall. they want mayor don guardian to reconsider granting concessions that the casino says are necessary to stay open. that casino has threatened to close in december if it doesn't get an aid package from the local government. a change for drivers at the site of a deadly bus crash. officials are lowering the speed limit in chesterfield where a school bus and dump truck collided, killing a little girl. clear skies and a cold morning. it is 37 degrees here at nbc 10 at 5:35.
colder. feels near freezing for much of the area, but a warming trend starts during the day today. it will be warmer than yesterday. right now, cold. 35 in allentown. northeast philadelphia's 38 degrees. and look at millville at 34 degrees this morning. the wind has died down here at the nbc 10 studios. and now, as we're getting closer to sunrise, you can see just a few thin clouds on the horizon. we will see some thin cloudiness, so we will get enough sunshine to make it feel warmer as the day goes on. the windchill right now is 29 degrees in allentown, 28 in millville. it is a cold start. a few high clouds. there they are. you saw them in the live picture. they're more to the north and some of these will be blowing into the area during the day today, but we'll still get plenty of sunshine to warm us into the 50s for allentown, quakertown and reading. sunny skies for trenton, northeast philadelphia and mt. holly. and at the shore, still a little breezy, but inland, vineland and dover will be less windy, a high in the upper 50s both locations. cape may, a high of 57 this afternoon.
and plenty of sunshine for wilmington, chester and philadelphia. temperatures near 60 degrees today. they go even warmer tomorrow. the seven-day forecast when i come back in less than ten minutes time. >> as long as it's warmer tomorrow. >> we like that, yeah. >> it's 5:39. let's check your ride to work. >> let's see if there are any detours or anything to be aware of with nbc 10's first alert traffic reporter katy zachry. >> we do like bill's forecast, and hopefully, you'll like mine, too, because things are pretty quiet out there, although we have a new accident to report in montgomery county. i'll get to that in a minute. delaware drivers, if the newark toll plaza is part of your commute, no issues there. you should be good, especially if you have e-zpass to get straight through there. looking at average speeds throughout the area. on the 42 freeway, right where it meets up with 55, your average speeds are in the 50s. and 50s really all around, on the vine street expressway and then 95, just south of center city. as i said, we do have a new accident into our system. this is in bryn athyn, cathedral
road at huntingdon pike. there may be residual work on there to clear that accident from the roadway. in bucks county, route 1 right near lincoln highway, we're not seeing much volume up there. free and clear of any issues. well, construction begins today on a $36 million bridge replacement project. katy has been talking about that. crews will replace the route 422 bridges in montgomery county. 422 will be down to one lane in each direction. that work will happen between 10:00 at night and 5:00 in the morning. new information about a deadly space plane crash. we'll tell you what investigators say went wrong and what the crash means for the future of space tourism. and tight rope triumph. high wire walker will wallenda has done it again. we'll show you his latest stunt.

walking a wire last night between two skyscrapers that spanned the chicago river. he did it a second time. one time wasn't good enough. he did it a second time, blindfolded, no net, no harness. wallenda is, of course, a member of the famous flying wallendas, a family of circus performers. his goal last night was not to be a flying wallenda. mission accomplished. >> okay, that's just crazy. now a look at news we're following for you across the country. nbc 10's vai sikahema is live in our digital operations center with new information about the crash of a virgin galactic spaceship. vai, tell us more. >> tracy, federal aviation investigators are saying that the experimental aircraft, spacecraft broke apart during its flight on friday over the moe hav mojave desert in kryt acaliforn. investigators say a device that helps with the descent deployed early without the pilot's command. one pilot was killed, another seriously hurt. a full investigation will take months. meanwhile, in oregon, a
terminally ill woman is dead after taking a lethal medication that was prescribed by a doctor. a spokesman says brittany maynard was surrounded by family and her friends when she took the drugs on saturday. maynard had brain cancer, and she said she wanted to die on her own terms. she moved to portland from california, a state that does not have aid in dying laws. and more than a week after a deadly school shooting in washington state, classes resume today. police say 15-year-old jaylen fryberg opened fire inside that school cafeteria. four students died that day, including fryberg. two victims are still in the hospital. students, however, will not be allowed to use the cafeteria where the shooting took place. live in the digital operations center, i'm vai sikahema, nbc 10. >> 5:45 now. we are following breaking news this morning out of philadelphia, where police are looking for a woman who they believe was abducted. nbc 10's matt delucia is live for us in germantown. matt, what do we know at this point about this woman? >> reporter: well, chris, police
are still investigating this case and trying to find this woman. we do have a picture of her, i believe. she is 22-year-old carlisha freeland-gaither, seen last night on west coulter street. she was seen being forced into a dark-colored car, and the vehicle's driver's side rear window was broken. so, police are calling this suspicious and believe that she may be in danger right now. i'm gathering more information, but for now, we are live in germantown, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> matt, thanks for that. 5:46 wp we're following more breaking news. skyforce10 is over the scene of a fire. this is bristol, bucks county. clydewaite drive. we are told multiple tractor-trailers are on fire inside a gated lot. you can see fire crews on scene. no reports of any injuries. this just happened within the past 20 minutes. we launched sky force, sky force got overhead. again, this is bristol, bucks county. we are getting more information from the scene to find out what
may have been in those tractor-trailers, but you can see, on fire behind the gates inside a lot. this morning we're following new ebola concerns. medical experts are monitoring a person who recently returned from liberia and came into the country at newark liberty airport. that person showed signs of a fever yesterday and is now at duke university hospital. the patient has no other symptoms and test results are expected later today. meantime, a new poll shows that more than seven in ten americans support mandatory quarantines for health workers who have treated ebola patients, even if they have no symptoms. 71% of those surveyed say the workers should be subject to a 21-day quarantine. nurse kaci hickox just won a challenge against maine's mandatory quarantine. she said her rights were being violated, and a judge agreed. bill gates says he wants to end malaria in his lifetime. the microsoft co-founder says he's willing to give more money toward that goal. he says his bill and melinda gates foundation would increase its malaria program budget by
30%, which adds up to more than $200 million a year. gates also has committed $50 million to fighting ebola. happening today, a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house will be held for a new $4 million lab at kennedy university hospital in washington township. the new catharization lab is a cooperation between kennedy and cooper university health care. it will expand access for cardiologists affiliated with cooper heart institute. this week we're expecting to learn more about a well that washed up on the banks of the maurice river in cumberland county. >> officials say we should find out the cause of death. the whale was taken to a landfill in commercial township. experts believe starvation or possibly a virus could be to blame. an agonizing waiting game for one hawaiian town. lava advancing on the big island has stalled for now, but monitors say that rain has reduced the smoke coming from the lava flow, but that probably won't last. lava has been spilling down the flank of the kilauea volcano since june.
at least 50 homes there remain on alert to potentially evacuate because of possible fire and smoke. well, look at this. new england is recovering from a blast of wintry weather over the weekend. up to a foot of snow fell across central maine yesterday. strong winds knocking out power to more than 100,000 people. and the blinding snow also made things a mess outside last night's patriots/broncos game near boston. >> wow. >> winds were blowing so fiercely at that game, it actually made peyton manning's passes fly in a tight spiral. >> very funny. >> hmm, what do you think about that? >> i have no information on that game. who won? >> i'm told that the patriots won. >> okay. >> pretty dominating fashion over the broncos. >> all right. >> you can cross that one off your list. >> it's off my list. >> okay. what about the cold weather? let's cross that off our list. >> the heat is off this morning. it feels like it is right around freezing for most of the area. getting closer to sunrise, you can see some scattered clouds. this is a live picture from center city. those scattered clouds will be moving right on through the
area. we'll see plenty of sunshine and the temperatures will be climbing. this is going to be a nice, sunny day today, and temperatures will be a whole lot warmer this afternoon than they are right now. 38 degrees in philadelphia. the windchill right now at 32 degrees with a westerly wind at 8 miles an hour. it's not as strong, not as windy as it was yesterday. you can see the wind has died down here at the nbc 10 studios. here are some of those high clouds on the horizon. sunshine to warm things up, but right now, the temperatures are still falling. 30s for pottstown, doylestown, trenton, all at 37 degrees this morning. it's 39 in levittown, coyden is 38 degrees. you can see furlong is down to 35 while warrington is 36, and 30s farther north and west for quakertown and perkasie, all at 37 degrees to start with. the sun will be bright, the radar quiet today. no sign of any showers for today, tonight, tomorrow. in fact, the dry weather will
last into midweek. for today, sunshine. yesterday we were in the 40s through the day. today about ten degrees warmer this afternoon. and the warming trend continues tomorrow. 65 after a morning low of 44. lots of sunshine for tuesday. wednesday, though, that sunshine starts to fade. and here comes the rain for thursday. first rain drops might get here late in the evening on wednesday. and then rain to start things off on friday will be clearing by friday evening with plenty of sunshine. but look at the temperatures. it will be cooler saturday and sunday. the temperatures start in the morning in the upper 30s and low 40s. just 50 degrees both afternoons. although 6:00 a.m. let's see how your drive is shaping up on this monday morning. >> nbc 10's first alert traffic reporter katy zachry is watching all of our cameras. what are you seeing? >> a lot more cars on the roads. we have a new accident into the system, so let's get right to it. this is live look at 476 approaching 76. more headlights, taillights, more volume, but it's not accounting for any true backup on this stretch of 476 or 76 for
that matter. that new accident i was talking about is on the pennsylvania turnpike westbound right past the norristown exit. also, the accident that was into our system about 20 minutes ago is still out there. this is in bryn athyn, cathedral road at huntingdon pike. and also, there are some downed wires in bryn mawr to tell you about on county line road. i'll have more on that. plus, route 252 in tridifferin township is reopened after being closed. we'll talk about that coming up shortly, too. it was a win with two losses for the eagles yesterday. quarterback nick foles will have an mri today to find out how badly he broke his collar bone during yesterday's win over the texans. foals left the game at the end of the first quarter after being slammed to the ground on this play here on his non throwing shoulder. he's expected to miss at least a month. mark sanchez threw two touchdowns and two interceptions in relief, but everyone was pretty happy with how he ran the offense. linebacker demeco ryans is expected to miss the rest of the

four minutes before of 6:00 and 37 degrees outside. breaking news out of bucks county. skyforce10 is over what was a fire, tractor-trailers on fire inside a gated lot. this is clyde waite drive in bristol, bucks county. just a few minutes ago, we saw flames, but firefighters appear to have gotten the upper hand. again, these are tractor-trailers on fire inside a gated lot. we're working to find out more information on that and we'll have an update coming up in our 6:00 hour. burlington county officials are changing the speed limit at an intersection where there was
a deadly school bus crash. that leads off our county-by-county coverage. the speed limit at old york road will be reduced from 45 to 35 miles per hour. it was in february 2012 when a dump truck and school bus collided, killing 11-year-old isabelle tezsla with more than a dozen other children hurt. investigators found that the dump truck was overloaded and the driver was speeding and suffering from intoing to. neither driver was charged. classes will be in session at a montgomery county high school after a confirmed case of whooping cough. this morning we've learned that the student at wissahickon high school is a sophomore. officials say other students may have been exposed. whooping cough is highly contagious and causes violent coughing and this is the second case at that school since september. delaware's women's university is expanding. they have announced plans for a new campus in new castle county. according to "the news journal," it will be located along route 202 and beaver valley in
brandywine hundred, and it would include three classroom buildings. work on the first building is expected to begin in 18 months. 19,000 students have been enrolled there and it's one of the fastest growing non-profit universities. cape may county now, where wildwoods' iconic welcome sign is getting a makeover. starting today, the 7-year-old landmark located on the boardwalk at rio grande avenue will be refurbished and resurfaced. the logo will remain visible throughout the project. the front letters will be removed first, followed by the background letters. the project is expected to take two weeks to complete. and on to bridgeton, cumberland county now, where a new mural is paying tribute to factory workers. officials there will dedicate the three-story mural on friday. it's on the side of the riverwalk senior apartments. that building was once a factory. philadelphia artist cesar sezaros is behind the project. can't wait to see it when it's complete. hopefully, we'll get some video of that for you guys, once that's done. vai and tracy?
