let's start with bill henley and our fist alert forecast. our temperature bug that appears in the bottom of the screen is taking an early vacation this morning. >> already scheduled this time off in advance. 33 degrees here at nbc 10. colder start and most of the area is down by 10 degrees and the cold is making for great snowmaking conditions in the pocono mountains. live view from the poconos. clouds stream across the delaware and it's trying to deliver a few sprinkles or even a few snowflakes but falling into dry air. radar is detecting it above the ground but not reaching the ground just yet. don't be surprised if you asea a snowflake in delaware or south jersey. definitely colder. 27 in pottstown and northeast philadelphia, mount holly at 32 degrees and 34 at philadelphia international. we will see clouds to start with. the clouds will be thinning out
as we head into the noontime hour. a bit of a warm up but a much colder day overall. 36 degrees at noontime. take it through hour by hour when i come back in ten minutes. right now, let's check in with jillian mele. >> starting off with a problem an accident nat brought down a pole in the germantown section of philadelphia. that's going to be blocked off right now so crews can get that cleaned up. as a result of this on the boulevard northbound the off ramp is going to be blocked, as well. something we'll keep you updated on throughout the morning. construction on 42 the northbound side right near creek road and 295. more on this in just a few minutes and that is blocked off until 5:00 this morning. this morning and then again tomorrow morning. detours are posted and drivers are going to be taken on to 295 and take route 168 and that's something we'll continue to follow for you. drivers in delaware no accidents is to report.

recent robbery the two times this place was target. here's surveillance video committed from philadelphia and the airport. the same man who jumps the counter and grabs an employee at gunpoint and the robber then runs off with cash and cell phone. no reported injuries in this case. making calls to the police department to see if they've been able to identify the vehicle, the person used to make their get away. a person in other cases, too. an update for you coming up in 30 minutes. live in delaware county this morning, jesse gary nbc 10 news. 4:05 now. a late-night crash in philadelphia knights town section killed one person and injured three. this is the scene around 11:00 last night. a car hit a telephone pole breaking the pole in half and then the car landed in a ditch. no word yet on what caused the driver to crash.
a high-speed police chase ended with a deadly crash in delaware county. police say yesterday afternoon an officer tried to pull over a vehicle for a violation and the driver took off. police say they lost sight of the car. the driver then crashed into another car in the opposite lane of traffic on south chester pike in glenolden. the suspect died and the person in the other car is in critical condition. >> they must have been going 100 miles an hour and they went by me so fast i didn't know what was going on. >> now, police have not yet released the suspect's identity nor the nature of the violation for which they tried to stop him. well power is back on this morning for more than 1,000 peco customers in northeast philadelphia. this is after a manhole explosion knocked out electricity last night. from sky force 10 there you can see the smoke rising from the manhole. this happened at wood haven road just before 8:00 last night.
pe peco blames an underground equipment failure. a big detour in camden county. if you drive route 42 in the overnight hours, please note, all lanes, all lanes will be closed until 5:00 a.m. construction crews are refurbishing an overpass part of a $900 million project to alleviate congestion that is expected to last into 2021. while this work is being done. detour traffic will be detoured on to the ramp. ine what this will be like if this is taking place during the day. the work is being done tonight and tomorrow night. >> a quarter million drivers travel this stretch of road every day. next week construction is expected to begin on the southbound side of route 42. when we first learned about the closures we sent out updates through our app. download the free app through your smartphone or tablet.
4:07 now. happening later today, a montgomery county mom accused of having sex in a park with a high school student is expected in court for a preliminary hearing. police say they caught iris having sex with a 17-year-old in a park in upper pottborough. a preliminary hearing also set today for an accused sexual predator who targeted college students at pan and drexel. james barrett was arrested on december 11th after officers say they caught him assaulting a penn stupidity on the street. they believe he is responsible for four other attacks. the man charged in a deadly shooting during a peace concert in philadelphia will also be in court today. eric jamison is scheduled to have his preliminary hearing this morning. now, jamison is accused of killing outside the dell music center on august 13th. police believe the two men were fighting over a woman when jamison pulled out a gun.
well walter palmer charter school is now officially closed for good. school officials say they were forced to close because they owe the school district of philadelphia millions of dollars including $1.5 million that the ff÷ district wante÷ paid back immediately. >> and the bottom line is that that $1.5 million judgment, that's what took us. >> this goes beyond the $1.5 million. it clearly shows a financial situation and this manage o. finances. >> the closure affects 600 students. the school district says it's working with their families to help them find new schools. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> it's a bundle up kind of morning. the temperatures are running colder this morning. we're down about ten degrees and the numbers are still falling. now, that sets the stage for a cold new year's celebration. we'll ring in the new year with temperatures below normal for this time of year. but, it will be dry.
so the only thing falling will likely be confetti. and then this weekend, it will be warmer just in time for a storm and a possibility of weekend rain. right now 27 degrees right now ainc.nel reading. 34 in philadelphia and clouds over cape may. 36 degrees. the clouds are streaming across delaware and south jersey. yesterday we started off with some rain yesterday morning. this is a live view from cape may where it's dry right now, but we are tracking a few sprinkles on the radar. 8 degrees cooler in philadelphia compared to yesterday and down by five in allentown. the light showers across delaware. so far not reaching the ground but that is a possibility. a few snowflakes and even a rain drop and nothing sig kbt andnificant and it will be heading out and more and more sunshine as the day goes on. you can see clouds over philadelphia, but the showers at 6:00 this morning stay to the south and east. calling for clouds and sunshine

officers say he reached for a loaded gun and they shot him. the officers involves are now on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. the new york mayor bill de blasio will meet face-to-face with the fiveo!roy police unions today. many officers blame de blasio for contributing to the anti anti-police sentiment. now, today's meeting comes just days after the funeral as the mayor spoke at that funeral. thousands of officers turned their backs to him. yesterday de blasio received another icy reception. mayor de blasio was booed at a police graduation ceremony yesterday. police union leaders are, again, accusing him of fostering an anti-police atmosphere. >> a very difficult time in this city, in this country, in this
department. but we will work forward towards it. >> officer ramos was laid to rest this weekend. lui's liu's funeral will take place on saturday. a congressman from new york will resign after pleading guilty to tax evasion charges.i ç admitted to underreporting receipts from a restaurant he ran in 2007 and 2010. he also said he hired undocumented immigrants and paid him cash which he also didn't report. from our jersey shore bureau this morning, a mother stands accused of driving drunk with her child in the car and this story could have ended much differently if it wasn't for the quick thinking of another driver. several people called them on christmas day saying rachel was
driving erratically. the mother of two was drunk behind the wheel with her 3-year-old daughter in the car. another driver flagged her down. that driver richard warren spoke to nbc 10 on the phone about how he stopped her from driving off. >> the window was down and i reached my hand in and put it into park and held the keys. she said why am i doing that? >> warren kept her there until officers arrived. police charged him with a number of offenses including the welfare of her daughter. 4:18 now and we're learning more this morning about a 10-year-old boy who was hit and killed by a police cruiser. the boy's name is matt. he waszñ say franklin police officer ran over the child as he was responding to a call. >> i just can't say the words right now pp.
