right now on nbc 10 news today, round two is heading our way. nbc 10 first alert radar is tracking a second storm that will take aim at our region starting tonight. and you may want to take advantage of the lull today, to get your errands done and prepare for our next go-around with mother nature. here's a live look outside at eighth and market in center city. the first alert forecast is straight ahead. good morning, everybody. welcome to nbc 10 news today. i'm ted greenberg. it is 9:00 on this sunday morning, january 25th. thanks so much for being with us. most of our sunday is looking quiet, but things start to change late tonight. first alert meteorologist brittney shipp is tracking a

messy start to the workweek. brittney, good morning. >> good morning. it's a first alert weather day as we head into our overnight hours tonight, we will see light snow moving in and it is going to affect your monday morning commute. expect messy conditions tomorrow morning. there's a live look at boathouse row. it doesn't seem like we have a big snowstorm coming. it's nice and quiet, but changes are on the way. you can see the flags are blowing there, we're dealing with a bit of a windshield. here are the details on the first alert weather day, goinging in effect at 10:00 p.m. tonight, lasting all the way until tuesday. snow late tonight, messy morning commute. it's been extended until tuesday, because we're also tracking the possibility of a major storm late monday heading into tuesday. it's part of the same system but we're going to watch and see as it intensifies off the coast. but a dry start. snow expected tonight, and this is the clipper system that is going to head our way, as we head into the rest of today heading into tonight. that's when the light snow moves in. our current temperature is at 38 degrees in philadelphia 38 in

pottstown, 31 in the poconos. today's high at 41 degrees. i'll have your full forecast coming up. >> all right, brittney. while south jersey escaped the last winter storm, people there are expecting to get hit with the next one. nbc 10's matt delucia is live along the atlantic city expressway in hamilton township. hi matt. >> reporter: hi. the drivers are telling me that the roads really are not bad right now. some of the side streets are a little slick, but the major roads like the atlantic city expressway out here just damp for the moment. and the folks out here realize that later tonight, the snow will be on the way. now, we were over in pennsylvania yesterday and plows were out for much of the day, and penndot told us they will be watching the roads all day today and deciding on how to attack this storm as it approaches. most of the salting and plow crews are getting some rest right now, ahead of the clipper system. they're talking with drivers this morning out here. some of them are heading to the shore. one man runs a hotel in ocean city. he says it's not an option. he has guests coming and he has

download it for free at the app store. new from overnight in philadelphia investigators are looking into the cause of two fires. flames broke out around 3:30 at the deli on toursdale avenue in the wissinoming section of the city. officials say several fires broke out inside. no one was hurt. the other fire happened at this dry cleaners on skeeter avenue and 55th street in cobb's creek. this happened just before 11:30 last night. the fire chief tells us the apartments above the store were vacant. no one injured there either. we have new information about a shooting near rowan university's campus. within the last ten minutes, we've learned that the victim is a freshman at the school. the shooting happened outside the campus crossing apartments on mullica hill road around 1:00 this morning. police say the victim is in stable condition and should make a full recovery. multiple people were taken into custody. happening now in kent county, family and friends are searching for a delaware mother who has been missing for more than two weeks. keisha hamilton and her two kids

were the subject of an amber alert. a search party met on main street and chesswald about an hour ago, and is now looking for any clues into her disappearance. hamilton was last seen at her home in smyrna on january 9th. the amber alert was issued the next day. that night, indiana state police found the kids safe with their father cortez hamilton but the mom was not with them. neighbors tell nbc 10 that she and her husband had domestic problems. cortez hamilton now faces charges of endangering the child's welfare and assault. he has since been extradited back to delaware and is being held in a correctional center near smyrna. tomorrow morning in burlington county a community will come together to remember a newborn who police say was set on fire and killed by her own mother. a memorial service for the infant is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at browns mill's united methodist church in pemberton. witnesses found the baby on fire in the middle of simontown road

and it's a first alert weather day on this sunday as we head into our overnight hours overnight, light snow moving in. it will linger for your monday morning commute. as we take a closer look at what you can expect to see today, we'll see a mix of sun and clouds and dry conditions but that changes again after 10:00 p.m. with snow expected to move in. and a closer look at our radar shot, that's the clipper that's heading our way. it's going to be fast-moving throughout today, so it will get to us closer to 10:00 or 11:00, you should start to see light snow right along the i-95 corridor and parts of lancaster county. on and off snow expected through most of your monday continuing into monday night. we are going to watch this system to see if it's going to strengthen, reintensify, and then bring us a whole another round of heavier snowfall monday night into tuesday. i'll go over all the details in my first alert seven-day forecast. ted? >> all right. brittney. at ten minutes after 9:00 happening now, president obama

is in india, meeting with that country's prime minister over the next few days. he and the first lady arrived in new delhi overnight. officials greeted the president with an elaborate welcome ceremony at the presidential palace. president obama then laid a wreath at a memorial for gandhi. the white house says the goal of the trip is to strengthen the relationship between the two leaders, in an effort to make progress on climate change defense, and economics. it's the first time a president has visited india twice during his time in office. this morning, president obama offered condolences to the japanese prime minister after isis released a video online which claims they have killed one of two japanese hostages. the islamic state group is now demanding a prisoner exchange for the second man being held. the militant group initially wanted $200 million to free the men. that deadline passed on friday. today, japan's prime minister said the isis video is likely authentic and that he is speechless following the news of the hostage's parent death.

he says japan will not give into terrorism and once again called for the release of the second man being held. new this morning, a deadly attack in nigeria. the military in that african nation says boko haram extremists killed and wounded dozens of people in the city of maiduguri. also this morning, a truck bomb explosion in kabul, afghanistan. this is all that's left of a gas station nearby. afghan police said they stopped a truck packed with explosives trying to enter the capital. that's when the vehicle blew up. so far no word on any deaths or injuries. it's the first attack in kabul in three weeks. police believe anti-government insurgents were behind the blast. and in ukraine, a rocket attack yesterday left at least 30 people dead. it happened in the strategic port city of marupol.

ukraine is blaming pro-russian rebels calling the aerial blitz a terrorist attack. the u.s. are demanding that russia stop supporting the rebels. still ahead, we'll meet this weak's wednesday's child. and meteorologist brittney shipp is tracking the next winter storm headed our way. brittney? >> that's right, conditions stay dry throughout the day today, but as we head into our overnight hours and into tomorrow that's when things get interesting. it's a first alert weather day, we want you to stay safe especially for your monday morning commute. i'll go over the details, what you can expect for the next couple of days with the snow coming up in my full forecast.

9:00, 36 degree. we are tracking another winter storm, as we take a live look at boathouse row in philadelphia. the sun is shining in many places right now, but snow will be moving in starting tonight. meteorologist brittney shipp will have our first alert forecast in less than a minute. people in the lehigh valley are bracing for another round of winter. the last storm dmpumped up to 8 inches of wet, heavy snow across that area. it helped if you had a snow blower instead of a shovel. and at rockland park in bethlehem, kids finally got a chance to break out the sleds for the very first time this winter. >> because we got a new snowboard over there. and it was fun when we went down the hill. >> and our meteorologists say the lehigh valley is in the path of this back-to-back storm system now heading our way. good morning. we'll see a dry start as we head into the rest of your sunday

but overnight, light snow moves in and that's going to make for a messy monday morning commute. we're also tracking if that system restrengthens and it could become a possible nor'easter with significant snowfall monday night, heading into tuesday. but a look outside right now, you can see the sun is shining. a mix of sun and clouds 38 degrees, humidity's at 70%. wind speeds out of the west-southwest at 17 mirs,les per hour dealing with a bit of a windshield. a little bit colder than our actual temperatures. 37 in westchester, 39 in wilmington. temperatures in stone harbor at 40 degrees. and we're at 38 to start off your sunday in atlantic city. our satellite radar shot shows clouds will continue to increase as we head into the rest of today. it is ahead of this clipper system that's bringing snow right now to chicago, rain to st. louis, starting to track here to the east as we continue to go into the rest of today. so a closer look at how your day will break down. we stay dry throughout your

sunday, but after midnight even as early as 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. we start to see light snow moving in. you can see it's going to be light and widespread right around midnight. and that's right along the i-95 corridor, parts of south jersey into the suburbs and lancaster county. this will continue into your early morning hours. by the time you get up and head to work, expect to see slick road conditions. take your time getting into work tomorrow. for allentown, that's more of a moderate snowfall coming down closer to 8:00 p.m. again, this will continue on and off throughout the day. this is a light snowfall 1 to 3 inches by monday as we head into your monday evening. here's where things get interesting, monday night into tuesday, we could see this storm system intensifying as it works its way up the northeast, bringing another round of snow monday night into tuesday. your snow total through your monday evening commute, this is going to be light at first. so 1 to about 3 inches. 3 inches for philadelphia close to that for wilmington same thing for the poconos, into the sushs.

some of the amounts are a little bit less closer to the shore, but we could really see our snowfall totals add up with this system, as it intensifies. we're watching track, watching if it's going to strengthen and that's the possibility for us to see the heavy snow. this is what one of the models is suggesting if all those conditions come together for us monday night into tuesday. so this could be a possible storm total. this is from sunday night, heading into tuesday. we could see 8 to 10 inches for parts of burlington county south jersey the i-95 corridor could pick up 6 to 8 inches with the heaviest snow coming down monday night, heading into tuesday. and then once this system continues to pull away and heads off to the northeast of us on tuesday, take a look at some of these wind speeds, gusting up to about 41 miles per hour in atlantic city. then we're dealing with blowing snow. so we're going to keep you updated on this situation. it continues to change but here's what to expect so far. a dry start on your sunday, snow after 10:00 p.m. a messy monday morning commute.

we could see anywhere from 1 to 9 inches through monday. and additional snowfall monday night into tuesday if we get that clipper restrengthening and moving up the northeast. for today, temperatures range between 35 and 40 degrees, cloudy and dry. your seven-day forecast shows a cold day tomorrow with the snow. temperatures stay in the 30s for our daytime highs. same thing on tuesday and a bitter cold start to the morning on wednesday, with temperatures starting off in the teens. >> all right, brittney. time now for this week's wednesday's child. he's a tech whiz who loves to stay busy and this teen is looking for a forever family to help make his dreams come true. nbc 10's vai sikahema introduces us to brandon. >> we met brandon on a recent trip to the garden state discovery museum in new jersey. brandon is a highly functional autistic 14-year-old. he's a sweet kid who loves electronics and staying busy. >> brandon is a techie. like, he loves playing on his tablet playing on his ds.

by late tonight. it is a clipper that could turn into a nor'easter. meteorologist brittney shipp will have all the details, coming up in your full first alert forecast. a different weather system blew across blew powerful winds across southern california yesterday. the gusts toppled trees and power poles, while damaging buildings. tens of thousands of people lost electricity. lifeguards in malibu had to rescue some kayakers who were blown out to sea. at a republican summit in iowa new jersey governor chris christie is sidestepping activists who doubt he's conservative enough to be president. last night, protesters heckled christie and former texas governor rick perry, over immigration policies. christie joked to the audience saying don't they know i'm from new jersey? the governor still hasn't declared himself a white house candidate for 2016, but he told conservatives, they shouldn't let his blunt style turn them off. >> i can tell you that you'll

always know who i am. you'll always know what i believe. and you'll always know where i stand. >> christie said he's an example of someone who's won campaigns in blue states while being true to conservative principles. well the super bowl here on nbc 10 is just one week away and crews in arizona are putting the final touches on the stadium. that includes 180,000 l.e.d. lights. it will be the first time the super bowl will be played under all l.e.d. lighting. the upgrade also includes faster internet at the venue. super bowl xlix kicks off next sunday as the new england patriots take on the seattle seahawks in glendale arizona. there's only one place to see the game and all those much-talked about commercials. right here on nbc 10. and today, our keith jones and comcast sportsnet's john clark arrive in arizona. look for team coverage on-air and online leading up to the big game. tonight, we'll have a different competition on nbc 10.

this morning. looks good now, sunny at the jersey shore, but starting tonight, it could be a different story. the shore ends some areas of south jersey which just saw rain yesterday, will likely be seeing snow this time around. good morning everybody. i'm ted greenberg. welcome back to nbc 10 news today. it's 9:30 on this sunday morning, january 25th. thanks so much for being with us. meteorologist brittney shipp is busy tracking the approaching storm, but right now, brittney it's nice out there. >> it is nice. you'll still be able to get all of your errands in on this sunday. as we head into tonight, that's when things get a little bit more interesting. let's take a live look outside right now. you can see a mix of sun and clouds. it won't be until 10:00 or 11:00 this evening tonight, when we start to see light snow moving in, and once it starts to move in, it will be on and off through our overnight hours and that will lead to a messy monday morning commute. we're also tracking significant changes that could lead to a major snowstorm late monday into tuesday. so the clipper moves offshore.

it strengthens and also works its way up the coast, we could see an additional 5 to 7 inches of snowfall. so we're watching this forecast very closely, because it continues to change. but the clipper is on its way. it's going to get here into our overnight hours. 10:00 or 11:00, light snow. for sure you'll see a messy monday morning commute. and then we'll give you more updates on what you can expect monday night heading into tuesday. >> and as brittney told us the snow could make for a messy monday morning rush hour but depending on how this storm develops, south jersey and much of our area could get quite a bit of snow. nbc 10's matt delucia is live along the atlantic city expressway in hamilton township. good morning, matt. >> reporter: good morning, ted. the sun is coming out and warming things up a little bit. so some of that black ice is starting to melt. the folks out here in south jersey realize that the conditions will only worsen as we get later into the night with that snow approaching. now, take a look here. this is something we were seeing quite a bit of the past couple

for tomorrow morning in burlington county for a newborn who was set on fire and killed allegedly by her own mother. community members will gather for the service at brown's mills united methodist church in pemberton at 11:00 a.m. witnesses found the baby on fire in the middle of simontown road on the night of january 16th. police say the newborn's mother hyphernkemberly dorvilier used an accelerant to set the girl on fire. she is charged with murder and remains in jail after not posting bail. in montgomery county, loved ones and friends remembering a family murdered by a relative. funeral services were held yesterday for aaron flick, with his wife patricia and their teenage daughter nina. they were shot to death december 15th inside their home. mourners braved wintry weather yesterday to attend the flick's memorial service. authorities said it was difficult to figure out legal next of kin, because so much of the family was killed. bradley stone murdered the family while they slept.

tricia flick was his ex-wife's sister. stone also killed his ex-wife, her mother and her grandmother. his teenage nephew survived after being stabbed. stone died thefection day next day of a drug overdose. his killing spree followed a bitter custody battle with his ex-wife. this morning, we have new information on a shooting in wilmington new castle county. police tell us an 18-year-old has died after someone shot him in the head. this happened at 21st and washington last night. investigators are now looking for suspects in the case. police in wilmington are also looking for two bank robbers. they held up the wells fargo along the philadelphia pike yesterday morning. investigators say one man demanded cash from the tellers while a second man controlled the customers. according to officers they got away with some cash. a possible new case of measles in a city not far from philadelphia. we'll tell you where that's being investigated and whether it might be related to the

and it's a first alert weather day. take a closer look at our satellite radar. you can see clouds will increase, but it's going to be a dry start. we expect snow after 10:00 p.m. it's going to come from this system, this fast-moving clipper. so light snow into our overnight hours. that is going to lead to a messy monday morning commute. i'm tracking an even bigger snowstorm monday night into tuesday. i'll go over all the details on that, coming up. ted? >> all right whereby brittney. say good-bye to this bridge near kansas city. demolition crews imploded one of the main spans of the bridge over the missouri river. transportation departments from missouri and kansas city are picking up the tab. a new bridge with multiple traffic lanes is expected to open next year. the baltimore health department is investigating a possible case of measles. it could be the first documented case in that city in the last decade. according to the baltimore sun,

the patient is a 1-year-old child who received a vaccine earlier this month. the child was taken to the er with symptoms of measles on wednesday and has been in isolation at home since then. health officials say this does not appear to be related to the outbreak of the illness in california. as of today, there are only three weeks left to sign up for health care under the affordable care act. the open enrollment period for 2015 ends on february 15th. people got help enrolling at the gallery at market east in center city yesterday. experts answered their questions about signing up and making changes. meanwhile, some people without insurance got free checkups in old city. the garces foundation provided medical and dental care at its community health day. participants were able to get their teeth cleaned and checked for oral cancer even fillings and extractions. there were also blood pressure cholesterol, and diabetes screenings. >> in the event that they need follow-up care it's also an opportunity to give them information of where they can go

highway near boston caused a grocery truck to flip on to its side. parts of massachusetts got up to 8 inches of snow. in north jersey the top deck of this parking garage collapsed as a snowplow was trying to clear it. there's now a crater-sized hole atop the garage at the empire hotel in secaucus hudson county. officials say the combined weight of the snow and the plow caused the collapse. frank bono from philadelphia was staying at the hotel. >> didn't see it go into the hole. i seen it plowing, and then all of a sudden, i seen the hole there with the bucket sticking out of it. >> one car was destroyed. the snowplow operator suffered minor injuries. engineers will now determine if that garage can be rebuilt. good sunday morning to you. a dry start for us but as we head into our overnight hours, we are going to see light snow moving in. it will be a messy monday morning commute, and then as we push into monday night into

tuesday, we're tracking a major snowstorm. the possibility to see anywhere between 6 to up to 10 inches in our area. i'll break down the details for you. but currently, we're at 31 in the poconos, 38 in allentown. close to 40 in pottstown, 49 in glassboro. 38 in atlantic city. breezy conditions, so the feels-like temperature is a little bit cooler than that. but here's what to expect as we head into the next 24 to 48 hours. it will be a dry start to your sunday snow is expected after 10:00 p.m. then a messy monday morning commute. we could see 1 to 3 inches of snowfall throughout monday during the day. but monday evening into tuesday, an additional 5 to 7 inches of more snow plus strong winds is a possibility, if we see this system reintensifying and strengthening and tracking right along the coast. but for our satellite radar shot right now, it shows our clouds are increasing. they will continue to increase as we head into the rest of today. this is a fast-moving clipper

system, that will bring us the snowfall overnight, heading into monday and monday morning. so it's going to affect your commute. it's going to progress like this, towards the east as we head into the rest of the day. so we stay dry, but right after midnight, that's when we're dealing with widespread light snowfall. some moderate snowfall embedded in that as we head into your overnight hours. so by the time you get up in the morning and you head to work whether you're commuting, driving, walking, you're going to be dealing with snow. especially throughout the i-95 corridor. south jersey into the suburbs and into the poconos. this will continue throughout the day, on monday on and off. light snowfall 1 to 3 inches. now, monday night heading into tuesday, we'll watch to see if this system strengthens. but heading into monday night, our snow totals through monday evening, for your commute time right around 6:00 p.m. close to 3 inches for philadelphia, similar conditions for allentown and into the poconos. closer to the shore, looks like we could see closer to 1 inch. but we keep a close eye on this system here and what it's doing. so we're going to watch the track. if it strengthens and stays

pretty close to us we could see heavy snow. and some of the models are suggesting, most are not agreeing, but one of the models are suggesting that we could see anywhere, a storm total of 8 to 10 inches for northern parts of burlington county, 6 to 8 inches for south jersey the i-95 corridor, closer to 4 to 6 inches for northern delaware lancaster county and chester county. your temperatures as we head into the rest of today will push a little bit above average, so low 40s for us as we head into your late afternoon hours. and as we push into tomorrow we are going to see a dramatic drop in our temperatures, with the snow moving in and our temperatures are going to stay down as we head into tuesday as well. so your seven-day forecast shows that we are going to see snow as we head into monday lingering into monday night. we'll watch for tuesday with to be see how much snow we get, and 32 degree on your tuesday. that will be a very cold start to the day on wednesday. >> and it's easy to track the snow with the nbc 10 first alert weather app. you'll get alerts radar, and the latest forecast right on
