nbc 10 breaking news. >> right now at 11:00, we have breaking news a military helicopter crash off the coast of florida. seven marines and four soldiers on board that army black hawk are presumed dead. the chopper went down during a night training exercise at eglin air force base. debris was first spotted around 2:00 in the morning. steven quinn has an update from navar, florida. >> reporter: military officials say seven marines and four army crew members are missing after their helicopter crashed during a training exercise off the florida panhandle. >> we had two aircraft in a training mission last night. one was reported missing at about 8:30 p.m. the other aircraft returned to base safely.

>> reporter: the black hawk helicopter similar to this one, went down in the navar sound. >> we have found some debris from the aircraft. the fog is obviously hampering the recovery efforts. and that's where we're at right now. >> reporter: that same fog may have played a role in the crash. but officials say those weather conditions overnight would not have stopped the training mission. >> they train how they would fight. so they would train in this type of environment. >> reporter: reports from eglin air force base said debris and human remains have washed up on shore, but so far they have not confirmed any deaths. >> there is always hope. there is always hope. >> reporter: as the search for any survivors continues. steven quinn for nbc news navar, florida. pennsylvania attorney general kathleen kane is set to attend a state supreme court hearing this morning involving her criminal case. nbc 10's monique braxton is live for us at city hall to tell us

what it is all about. monique? >> reporter: hi vai. the case has not been heard yet before the pennsylvania supreme court on the fourth floor of city hall. it involves the legality of a special grand jury probe into actions by the ag. the attorney general kathleen kane arrived here 10:00 this morning. her attorney will officially challenge the appointment of a special prosecutor to review allegations she leaked grand jury material to a local newspaper. that state wide grand jury recommended criminal charges including perjury and obstruction of justice against kane. she admits she gave material about a phone to the local pap, but also says she was not covered by grand jury secrecy laws. right now, montgomery county's district attorney has been appointed to review the grand jury's proposed charges. but that is on hold until the outcome of today's hearing. some politicians tell us this could do irreparable damage to the ag's career. we'll be following the

proceedings and have the outcome for you as soon as it is announced. live for now inside city hall monique braxton, nbc 10 news. >> thank you. a man is in custody after police say he tried to firebomb a home in philadelphia's juniata neighborhood around 2:30 morning on palmetto street. police got the suspect a few blocks away thanks to a witness who saw him running from the scene. no one was hurt. now, your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> foggy start to the day. we're in for mild temperatures later on. here is a live look at philadelphia's boathouse row. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz here now with our forecast. glenn? >> yeah vai, it is starting to feel like spring around here. we got up to 59 yesterday. and we get a little sunshine today, we may do even better than that. still a lot of clouds around but the fog is pretty much gone. it is up to 51 degrees in philadelphia. only 46 degrees in reading. 47 in allentown. also cool to the south, clouds

are thicker and there has been some rain. this is the live radar showing just grazing cape may, southern delaware getting a little bit, but this is not moving northward. it is moving straight to the east, not going to progress any further north. some of the dry air from the north coming in allowing for more sunshine as we go through the afternoon. if we get enough we get up to 60 degrees today, increasing sunshine, we do have rain significant rain seven-day forecast. the timing on that is coming in a few minutes. >> thank you, glenn. jurors in the retrial of a philadelphia priest accused of -- they are at an impasse. mccormick was tried last year but the jury could not reach a verdict after four days of deliberation. investigators say mccormick assaulted the boy at the rectory of st. john church in bridesburg

in 1997. the boy was 11 years old at the time. the archdiocese of philadelphia says mccormick is on administrative leave after a different allegation of abuse was made against him. happening now, pennsylvania lawmakers are holding a hearing in philadelphia on raising the state's minimum wage to $10.10. pennsylvania governor tom wolf is on board with the move. in his budget address last week wolf said he supported the proposed increase and would also support future minimum wage hikes tied to a cost of living index. and we now know the names of two of the people who will be leading efforts to prepare for the world meeting of families leading up to the pope's visit to philadelphia in september. organizers of the world meeting of families announced the chairs and vice chairs of 15 different planning committees this morning, the choices were revealed at an event in center city. one big concern is security. an organizer says those preparations are already well under way. >> in order to pull off an event

of this nature they can't do it at the last minute. they have got to prepare early on and get started. >> organizers say the public should expect to see security preparations going into effect in the next -- in the week leading up to the event. the world meeting of families will be held the last full week of september. pope francis will visit philadelphia at the end of that week the week of september 25th, over six months away. >> happening later today, officials expect the packed house at a hearing in bucks county when a local zoning board takes up a proposal to build a new cell phone tower. the zoning board will consider a plan by verizon to build a 13 story cell tower behind the william penn fire company on main street. some residents and the historical society oppose the plan. there will be another week before we'll learn whether a developer can build houses on acres of farm land and wildlife preserve in delaware county. last night, the concord township

washington. president obama said on friday -- at the center of a scandal that prompted an overhaul of veterans health care. the va came under scrutiny after reports dozens of vets died awaiting treatment at the phoenix veterans affair medical center. a local va medical center meanwhile will host a town hall meeting for veterans tonight. the leaders of coatesville va medical center will hold a forum for veterans at southeastern veterans center in spring city. chester county. the public can ask questions and share thoughts about va health care at that point and some similar meetings are being held by va medical centers across the country. meanwhile, thick fog is being blamed for a series of deadly crashes in indiana. state police say two people are dead and several are injured. it all started when a semi and a car collided. officers say the backup from the

first accident appears to have caused two more crashes because of drivers slowing and stopping. the highway was closed in both directions. so emergency crews could remove debris from the highway. frinl frigid temperatures in massachusetts left huge chunks of ice off the harbor off cape cod.joying the sight. but fishermen say it is bad for business. >> pretty neat. i've never seen this before and i've been on the cape for a while. pretty unique. >> i have six kids. they don't run on good intentions. they run on income. >> and fisherman said the harbor has been froze for the past six weeks. now, your nbc 10 first alert weather with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> they have had about 106 inches of snow in boston this winter. a lot of that has got to melt. going to be some other kind of troubles up there.

in our part of the world, we may get back to 6 degrees today. it feels like it. we got more melting, not only with the warmer temperatures but also with rain on the way. and there may be some relatively heavy rain with that. brighter in and around philadelphia area 51 degrees, not much wind, just 7 miles an hour at the moment. and we're in the 40s north and west. but on the way up 51 in philadelphia. and one of the cool spots, stone harbor, clouds thick, and there has been some rain there this morning. most of that rain is in sussex county delaware. we're anywhere from 3 degrees below the temperature, 24 hours ago, in millville, to 11 degrees warmer than it was in allentown. so things are a little topsy-turvy today because the clouds are thicker in the south. we have breaks up to the north. there is no rain up to the north. and the rain stuck in sussex

county, not even moving up toward kent county in delaware. more moisture down in the gulf of mexico. and eventually some of that is going to be coming up. so here we are, as we go into friday, there is friday morning, friday afternoon, and so friday night and into saturday, there goes the rain. and some of that on the heavier side. we also even though we're getting milder weather now, that's not the way the pattern is overall. we still have cold air coming back. and that's next week. so watch what happens. the mild air, where is it? it is just not around. and so we're going to have more cold air, not necessarily arctic air coming down but nothing like 60 degrees for a good bit of next week. so showers pretty far to the south, otherwise clearing and mild.

that area of rain is not moving up to the rest of the area as you can see. that's not necessarily the case for later this week. at noon the showers stay in sussex county delaware with increased sunshine temperatures get near 60 degrees. more about the timing and the rain that will affect the weekend with the seven-day in a few minutes. >> the scandal is growing at the university of oklahoma following that racist chant caught on video. two of the fraternity members have been identified and we're hearing their apologies for first time as gabe gutierrez reports, also a claim that the song was taught to one of them by a fellow fraternity members. >> reporter: on the ou campus new outrage. >> i hope he genuinely is poll jettic and not just apologetic because he got caught. >> reporter: this morning the apologies for this video are sinking in. a freshman member of sigma alpha

epsilon, parker rice writing, i'm deeply sorry for what i did, it was wrong and reckless. i admit it was likely fueled by alcohol, but that's not an excuse. >> i was appalled. i think it is unconscionable to see what was going on that bus. >> reporter: in his written statement, rice said the song was taught to him. overnight, sae said it is likely that the men learned the song but reiterated the national fraternity does not teach such a hateful chant. levi pettitte also apologized he made a horrible mistake and will live with the consequences forever. however, we also know that the depth of our son's character, he's a good boy. what we saw in the videos is disgusting. the national fraternity also calling this video, posted on social media, unacceptable

showing sae's long time house mother at ou using that same racial slur in 2013. >> [ bleep ]. >> reporter: she says she's heart broken by any racist portrayal and she was only singing along to a rap song. as the scandal widens hundreds of students marched across campus, a diverse crowd stopping at the sae house, now shut down. >> it is blatant racism. >> i would say we haven't fallen apart, but some parts of us have crumbled away. we're putting it back together. >> that was gabe gutierrez reporting. french police are look for men who hijacked and robs two vans carrying millions of dollars worth of jewelry. gunmen forced edd the vans to stop early this morning. they took off with the vans containing $10 million of jewelry. french media reports no shots were fired. no one was hurt.

and robbers quickly escaped. the two vans were later found burned near the toll plaza. the u.s. ambassador to south korea is talking about just how close he came to losing his life. ambassador mark lippert was attacked last week by a man with a knife. it happened during a breakfast leisure in seoul. the attacker slashed his face before being tackled to the ground. lippert was released from the hospital yesterday and he told the "today" show he feels lucky. >> i do feel like someone was watching over me because, you know it was about people telling me about two centimeters away from my carotid artery which would have been horrible. >> the ambassador says he feels good all things considered. he's been able to play with his baby and walk the dog and said he's eager to return to work. there is more fall jut from the deadly police shooting.

shaw's resignation letter he says his office never instructed police to target african-americans. and utah could be on the verge of bringing backfiring squads as a method of execution. utah state senate approved a bill that would allow the use of a firing squad if lethal injection drugs are not on hand. there is currently a nationwide shortage of the drugs. utah's governor hasn't said if he'll sign that bill. and the senate will begin considering loretta lynch's nomination for attorney general next week. the senate judiciary committee approved president obama's selection two weeks ago and now the nomination will be debated by the full senate. if confirmed, he would become the first african-american female attorney general, she would replace eric holder. you've seen them on cigarette packs for year and now a health worning could come with your favorite soft drinks.

this is nbc 10 news. >> and olympic flags in switzerland are at half-staff for three days in memory of french athletes killed in a helicopter crash yesterday. two helicopters involved in the filming of the tv reality show "dropped" collided during filming of the show in argentina. investigators picked through the wreckage of the two helicopters looking for clues. they removed mobile phones bits of paper and other charred and

unrecognizable items. eight french nationals and two pilots died in the crash. a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck columbia. there are no immediate reports of damages or injuries. it was located 169 miles northeast of the capital bogota. it was felt as far away as venezuela. depressants could help the heart. researchers followed 5,000 people with severe to moderate depression. they found people who took antidepressants had a 53% lower risk of death, heart disease and stroke than those who did not take them. however, the study could not prove the use of antidepressants actually caused lower heart disease risks. flu season is winding down but six states are still reporting a high number of cases including new jersey. the new data from the centers of disease control shows more than 275 people tested positive for the flu in new jersey just last

week. the cdc's report shows the flu season lasted longer than usual because it started relatively early. lawmakers are advancing a bill that would make it harder for parents to use religion as a reason for not getting their kids vaccinated. a state senate committee voted in favor of the measure yesterday. that heads to the full senate under the new rules parents would have to submit a notrized letter explaining how the vaccine violates their religion. san francisco could become the first city in the country to rehr warning labels on ads for sodas and other sugar sweet drinks. labels would say consuming those drinks can cause owe piece tybesity and tooth decay. the soda industry is fighting the plan saying it won't improve public health. and british singer sarah brightman is a star on the world stage and later this year the first professional singer to sing among the stars. the 55-year-old singer told

the weekend. so we don't have flooding problems. see a little more sunshine out there, the clouds are a little thinner. 51 degrees. the wind is out of the west at 7 miles an hour. and that wind is going to be one of the things that helped prevent us from getting a repeat of that fog that we had last night and we had yesterday. you can see 7 to 12 miles an hour. and that's about all we need with lowering humidity to prevent that fog tonight. you see how thick the clouds are in delaware south jersey even there, the clouds are thinning out. so we're seeing some improvement in the weather. not the only place that is not changing is sussex county in delaware. that continues to be wet. when we see another area of rain building up in the gulf of mexico getting ready to come this way. now, it is obviously not going to be here tomorrow but here is friday. friday morning, we're dry and the rain is not even close.

but by the end of the day, it is possible that some of the rain can move in and especially friday night and into saturday. saturday morning, some of the rain on the heavier side you can see it is a solid area of rain. that means hour after hour after hour, a potential washout for the day on saturday. so just your plans accordingly. it is going to be hard for that to miss. now, as we have been telling you, the pattern has not really changed that much overall. so if you think that's the end of any kind of cold weather, well forget it. first, little surge early in the seven-day period. and then as we go into next week, well we're going to see that arctic air come back. at least close to us. there is the middle of the week. we have got cold air on top of us again. and there is thursday. the 19th. and there is saturday, the 21st.

so fairly cold pattern overall for the rest of the month despite the mild weather that we're getting today. and speaking of today, those showers in sussex county otherwise gradual clearing. mild with highs up near 60 degrees. seven-day forecast, beautiful looking day tomorrow dry, no morning fog. and then late showers on friday and that rainy day on saturday. perhaps a couple leftover showers on sunday, but certainly looks like sunday is a nicer day than saturday and then dryer weather for early next week. and breaking news right now. this is a fire tanker fire this is in dearborn michigan outside detroit. you see the flames in that truck. fire crews are there trying to put that fire out. don't have any information right now on the driver and the injuries or severity of injuries. but you see as we pull back that

camera that it has stopped traffic on that freeway as they continue to put that fire out. tanker truck fire in dearborn michigan. protesters in madison, wisconsin, are hoping to mount another major rally over the deadly shooting of an unarmed biracial man by a white police officer. they're asking high school students to leave class to tend this afternoon's rally. students were a big part of the rally at the state capital. 19-year-old tony robinson died friday night in the confrontation with police. the state department of justice is investigating that shooting. and police in washington state are searching for a man caught on surveillance video, snatching the toddler and running off with him. this is that video of the attempted abduction. it happened sunday in the small town of sprague, washington. 22-month-old boy's older sibling screamed and chased after the abductor who set the boy down and then ran off. the toddler, luckily, was not hurt. and the security was tight today in supermarkets across new

zealand after an infant formula poisoning scare. the world's largest exporter of dairy problems and farming association both received anonymous letters threatening to poison infant formula in the country. the letters which were delivered in november contain small packages of milk powder that tested positive for an agricultural pesticide. the share economy is giving rise to the new population willing to drive, deliver and rent their house to earn extra money. like all businesses, these ventures involve risk giving rise to another business ensuring the shared economy. mary thompson has more. >> reporter: the ride sharing service uber says it makes a million trips a day, covering a lot of ground and providing insurers fertile ground for new coverage. >> it could be huge especially on the auto insurance side. >> reporter: among the insurers providing targeted auto policies for drivers of firms like uber

we follow breaking news. back to michigan to show you this tanker truck fire. this was carrying fuel gasoline, and also diesel. it looks like they're beginning
