nbc 10 breaking news. that breaking news is in north philadelphia. within the last hour a warehouse fire went to four alarms. we'll have a live report from the scene as crews battle those flames. and overnight in berks county one person is dead two others are injured after an explosion at a titanium plant. we'll tell you what first responders are saying about the investigation into the blast. taking a live look outside at the center city skyline. our weekend is off to a chilly start and the winds will be picking up later on today. we'll let you know when the weather is expected to warm up in the first alert forecast. good morning. it's nbc 10 news today, i'm rosemary connors. meteorologist michelle grossman is tracking the cold weather for

us. >> a winter-like day. we'll be about 15 degrees below typical for this time of year topping out around 40 degrees. normally we começ in at 57. a very cold day today, also windy, making it feel colder than it actually is. a live look outside. we are waking up to mostly cloudy skies. the big story being the temperatures. 37 right now in philadelphia 35 in wrightstown. 33 degrees in reading, 24 degrees right now mt. pocono as well as shenandoah. 31 in doylestown 36 in blue bell. a lot of temperatures at or below freezing this morning. we slide down to the south and east. we're looking at cold temperatures around 36 degrees in mt. holly, 38 in dover 38 in millville. also along the shore points 39 in woodbine 39 in avalon. the winds will be a factor today. winds out of the northwest anywhere from 15 to 25 miles.

factor in the winds and it's feeling more like the 20s. look at mt. pocono it feels like 24 in allentown, 27 in philadelphia. it feels like 31 in millville. for today, plan on a winter-like day, mostly cloudy skies, by 9:0036. by noon 38 and by 3:00 39 degrees. some spots may see a shower maybe even a flurry. we'll talk about that and we'll also talk about the cold and wind coming up. let's get you back to that breaking news this morning. right now, crews are balloting a warehouse fire in north philadelphia. jesse gary is with us. >> reporter: the flames continue to burn this two-story warehouse. i'll move out of the way. the fire department is putting water on fire with at least two aerial hoses. the spray from those hoses is blowing back into the camera. if you have moisture see moisture on lens that's the reason why. you can see the glow of the

flames in the distance still continuing to consume the two-story truckstructure. right now we don't have any reports of injuries. i'll try to get updated information for you in the next fewç months or so and check back. the fire is not under control. they're trying to keep it from spreading to adjacent warehouse facilities in north philadelphia. the flames are kicking up a little bit, just off to the right a little bit. starting to pop up a little bit. that's what they're trying to tap down. i'll have more updated information in 30 minutes. live in north philadelphia jesse gary nbc 10 news. an explosion at a berks county titanium plan the killed one worker and injured who other. this happened on the timet plan the. a montgomery county high school ranked one of the top public schools in the nation is at the center of a nude photo scandal.

a north penn high school allegations have surfaced that nude and seminude photos and videos of female students were posted on the file sharing website dropbox. some of the victims are under the age of 18. it appears most of the photos were originally sent to one recipient through apps like snapchat. >> the parents, that's where it starts with the parenting. kids will do kid things. >> it's wrong on every level. it's privacy, respect. >> the district issued a statement, knowing that npsd and local law enforcement officials are working together on this matter and take alleged activity such as these very seriously. pennsylvania has strict laws involving the sharing of nude photos even from one minor to another minor. law enforcement is encouraging anybody with relevant tips on this to contact the police.

investigators are calling it a case of fighting back. philadelphia police say robbers tried to hold up two friends headed home from work but one of the victims had a gun. this is the intersection in overbrook where a pair of you armed robbers confronted the friends thursday night. one of the victim was shot and kill. detectives say the other victim pulled out his concealed carry handgun and shot both suspects. this is the second deadly botched robbery here in recent weeks. a man walking his dog was gunned down during a holdup earlier this month. neighbors tell us it seems that carrying a legally owned gun is the only way they feel safe. >> it's sad. that's not how i came up. you could walk to the store. you could walk somewhere. you didn't have to have a gun. it's sad that you have to kill the kids now. because it's not the kids that till you. >> one of the robbers died. the surviving suspect is in critical condition and will face charges.

family members are fighting back after prosecutors say a prominent new jersey couple died in a murder/suicide. john and joyce sheridan's four adult sons called the prosecutor's report speculative and plan to file a lawsuit. the report comes after a six-month investigation. the investigation determined that cooper hospital ceo john sheridan killed his wife, set their north jersey house on fire and killed himself last september. nobody will be charge that's the word from philadelphia police after a 4-year-old girl tried to take a bus ride by herself in the middle of the night. the girl got herself dressed and left her house in tacony around 3:00 yesterday morning. she boarded the bus telling passengers she wanted a slushy from a convenience store. the driver called officers and stopped the bus until they arrived n. this day and age, somebody could have picked her up, you know. it was scary. it was scary to see her out there at that time of night by herself. >> police reunited the girl with

her mother at the hospital where she was checked out a few hours later. a former day care owner has been charge after a 15-month-old child drown while under her care. the cumber loun county prosecutor's office announced that rock axxanne lacy has been charged with operating a day-care center that was unlicensed. prosecutors claim lacy needed a license to care for more than five kids. hundreds of la salle university students are taking part in the second annual relay for life. they have less than an hour to go. the event kicked off at 6:00 last night and runs until 6:00 this morning. it's this school's largest on-campus fund-raiser and the proceeds go to the american cancer society. students hope to raise about $26,000. and today the phanatic will lead the way as 5,000 racers

take part in philly's charity 5k. it starts at 8:00. they run around fdr park and end up back at the ballpark. this is video from the beginning of the race last year. the event raises money for phillys charities groups which gives grants every year. we're learning more about the germanwings co-pilot. some say he should not have been flying that day because of mental health issues but the hospital says that's not true. the amanda knox saga is over. what she has to say after an italian court overturned her murder conviction in a high-profile case that's been years in the making.

topping out around 40 degrees and typically we top out around 57. right now we're off to a cold start, temperatures mainly in the 30s. we're at freezing in pottstown, 32 below freezing in mt. pocono 24, 37. in philadelphia, 38 degrees in millville. 39 in wildwood. cold start today but colder on sunday morning. the winds are 10 to 20 miles an hour at 17 miles per hour in philadelphia, up to 15 in northeast philadelphia, up to 14 in dover. we're seeing them gust higher than that and that will be the trend throughout the day. we're seeing winds gusting, 25 mile per hours in philadelphia. up to 22 mile per hours in mt. pocono and 22 miles per hour in dover. it will be a cold day today. it will be a windy day today. temperatures around 40 degrees later on this afternoon. you factor in the winds, probably feeling more like the low-to-mid 30s. a chance for a shower, possibly a flurry. a big-day warmup in your seven-day. 60s in your seven-day forecast.

we'll look at that straight ahead. kids that go to schools in philadelphia will get a day off before pope francis arrived. the street closures will make it too difficult for students to get to class. there's also the issue of traffic with 1.5 million people expected to visit philadelphia. the world meeting of families by the way, begins on september 22nd. the pope visits september 26th and the 27th. you can get updates about the pope's visit by downloading the nbc 10 app. you'll find more information about how to volunteer or host visitors at your home. next a police pursuit in l.a. ends with several people behind bars but not before the driver did some damage in this parking lot. and the car had a special message written on the windows just for the cops. we'll explain.

this is nbc 10 news. at 5:15 on this saturday, here's a live look outside at boathouse row. we are expecting a cold and windy saturday today. if you're going to be out driving near boathouse row, expect delays along lincoln drive and kelly drive because there will be maintenance. also martin luther king drive will be closed until noon because of a charity race. that area will be busy. i'm guessing the schuylkill expressway may be backed up as a result. keep that in mind. today, drexel university is holding an indoor triathlon. this is the third year. participants will use the treadmills stationary bikes and swimming pools. there are different distances offer for all skill levels. a boston police officer is

in critical condition after being shot during a traffic stop. the department says somebody jumped out of car and shot the officer. other cops returned fire and killed the suspect. a woman was caught in the cross fire but her injuries are only minor. two other people in the car are in custody on unrelated matters. now to los angeles where a driver surrendered after leading police on this chase. the steelen car had the words "we support our local police department" written in the back window. at one point during the case police nearly had the car cornered in a parking lot about the driver drove off. investigators are looking into whether somebody tampered with the gas lines setting off thursday's blast. sources tell nbc news that someone may have been trying to steal gas. two people are still missing after the explosion and fire.

amanda knox says she is grateful to have her life back. knox gave a brief comment outside her seattle home yesterday after italy's supreme court overturned the murder conviction against her and her former boyfriend. the pair has long maintained their innocence in the murder of knox's roommate, meredith kercher. knox was released from prison in 2011 but last year her acquittal was overturn. yesterday's decision is the final ruling in this case. >> you saved my life and i'm so grateful. and i'm so grateful to have my life back. >> knox recently got engaged and has been working as a free lance reporter for a seattle newspaper. now to the crash of germanwings flight 9525. a german hospital is denying reports that it treated the co-pilot for depression but the hospital does confirm that andreas lubitz was there for a diagnostic evaluation on march 10th exactly two weeks before

he deliberately crashed a passenger jet into a mountain in the french alps killing 150 people. that includes two americans with ties to our area. yesterday prosecutors announced that lubitz had hid evidence of an illness from the airline, including a doctor's note excusing him from working the day of the crash. the news is creating mixed emotions for some of the families of those killed on that flight. >> i'm really sad for the father, the parents of that young pilot. >> experts say lufthansa could be looking at unlimited compensation claims for the crash. those experts say it would be difficult and possibly even counterproductive for the german airline to try to avoid liability. a russian and an american who are spending a year away from earth, just think about that concept for a minute are now on the international space station. scott kelly and the russian cosmonaut will be for twice the time of a standard mission on

the station. the capsule carrying the men arrived at the space station about six hours after it launched from kazakhstan. the goal of this mission is to measure the effect of long-term weightlessness on the human body which would be a step toward possible missions on mars. now, your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> all right. we are waking up to very cold temperatures. also windy. it's going to be windy all day long with winds gusting near 30 miles per hour at times. temperatures topping out around 40 degrees. the weather headlines on your saturday, a coal and windy weekend, feeling winter-like today and also tomorrow. temperatures rebounding nicely. later on in the workweek possible flurries, a shower or two. i'll track that for you in a minute. mild this week temperatures into the 60s by the end of the workweek. winds out of the north at 17 miles an hour, 37 degrees. lots of blue on the map. we're looking at temperatures at

or below freezing in many spots. 24 in mt. pocono 32 in pottstown, 37 in bensalem. temperatures around 38 degrees in millville and 39 in stone harbor. temperatures mainly in the 30s right now. it feels kohler than that once you factor in the wonz. feeling more like the 20s like in allentown. look at mt. pocono wind chills in the teens. it feels like 12 actually less than the teens. 31 is what it feels like in millville. winds straight out of the northwest. we'll see the flow all day long cold canadian air coming in. we'll see temperatures topping out around 40 by later on this afternoon. winds anywhere from 5 to 20 miles an hour 17 miles per hour in philadelphia. 10 mile per hours in millville. giving higher than that. winds gusting anywhere from 20 to 25 miles per hour. by this afternoon, maybe gusting closer to 30 a little bit more than that later on this afternoon. we're tracking flurries a

shower or two on radar. nothing really amounting to anything but still as you head out this morning, you may encounter a flurry or two. plenty of cloud cover, mostly cloudy skies today. temperatures 38 to 41. cold and windy, that's the theme throughout the day and watching the chance for a flurry possibly a shower. not really amounting to anything. that chance continues into the evening. and night time hours. tonight it will be a cold one. you think it's cold now? wait until you wake up tomorrow morning. temperatures around 24 in philadelphia, 18 north and west. decreasing clouds mostly clear skies. later on tonight, that will help to drop the temperatures. good news is the winds will be up around 5 to 15 miles per hour. could actually drop lower than that if the winds were less, i think the winds will stay around 5 to 15 miles per hour. seven-day forecast cold one today, around 40 degrees. sunday beautiful sunshine, high pressure in control but that sun will not warm us up. right around 45. later on sunday afternoon,
