right now on "nbc 10 news today," a mother lashes out at the woman accused of taking her baby from the mall and this morning we're looking into questions about an amber alert delay in the case. tonight is the night. the march to victory. villanova gears up for their final four matchup with oklahoma. we're live in houston with a preview. and we are tracking some showers moving through our region. it's a preclude to cold and windy changes on the way in the first alert forecast. good morning. i'm rosemary connors. it's 5:00 on this saturday. let's get to our weekend weather now with first alert meteorologist karen thomas.

>> good morning to everyone waking up early this saturday morning. a mixed bag in our forecast as we move through the next 48 to 72 hours. a little bit of everything so i think if you like warm weather, you'll be happy. if you like cold weather, you might be happy there as well. as we look live right now, the flag blowing in the breeze. those winds will be increasing significantly as we get closer to the nighttime hours tonight. 62 degrees currently in philadelphia. when i came in early this morning, i commented it just feels really nice outside right now. just had that light wind. we do have some showers in and around the area but as we continue through our saturday, these winds will be picking up. we are at 9 miles per hour right now out of the north-northwest. we do have a high wind warning in effect for most of our viewing area. that will go into effect tonight at midnight into early tomorrow. radar has us watching rain showers and that's what we can expect this morning.

on and off shower activity and then really the focus will be later on this evening. the high winds developing. i'll be back because we do have more. we're talking tumbling temperatures in the forecast as well. >> we'll see you shortly. thanks, karen. this morning we're hearing from the mother of this baby who was kidnapped from the king of prussia mall. police are looking into a previous pregnancy of the suspect as a motive for the crime. the reunion marked the end of a terrifying ordeal after a woman abducted the child from the food court at the king of prussia mall on thursday. >> why my child? why anybody's child? how could you do something so hurtful and evil? >> the suspect, cherie amoore is the daughter of a pennsylvania republican party leader. police say amoore brought the baby from the mall to a need ar

home. she told investigators she gave birth to baby in february who died a few hours later. police are checking into her medical records. police are holding amoore on several felony charges including kidnapping. her preliminary hearing is scheduled for april 15th. this morning we're taking a closer look at why it took so long for an amber alert to go out after the kidnapping. many of you watched the abduction investigation unfolding in real time as we brought you this story first on tv and through nbc 10's social media accounts. for many smartphone users, the amber alert notification didn't pop up until four hours after the baby was taken. monique braxton is live with details. >> first of all, let us explain to you it is a three-step process to get those phone alerts out in pennsylvania. take a look at what we've been able to gather after doing some digging. local authorities first notify

state police and they notify the national center for missing children and then that group pushes out the alerts from washington d.c. upper marion police chief said his department did what they needed to do quickly. >> the amber alert went out to all surrounding jurisdictions in montgomery county within the first few minutes. >> by 7:45 thursday night it took one hour to obtain appropriate information and pictures. their amber activation occurred at 8:48 p.m. now, with that activation, state police notify the national center for missing and exploited children in washington. that's the agency which pushes the button to send cell phone alerts. the cellular send process can take some time.

it took 45 minutes on thursday. we'll continue to delve into what takes place prior to the amber alert you receive on your cell phone. we'll also hear more from the police chief in upper marion. monique braxton, nbc 10 news. villanova is a little more than 13 hours away from the final four game with oklahoma. tip-off time in houston is tonight at 6:09. it's been seven years since the wildcats and their fans tasted the national semifinals. this time they want to take things to the championship level. nbc 10's matt delucia is live in houston this morning. matt, there's been a lot going on there leading up to the game tonight. >> reporter: the teams held practices yesterday preparing themselves physically and mentally for what's to come right here at nrg stadium later on tonight. villanova/oklahoma. you can feel the final four excitement throughout the city.

extreme south and east. we do expect those light showers to continue pushing through the area and then clearing out of here later on today. meanwhile, temperature readings in and around the area on the mild side. 62 in philadelphia. 50s just about everywhere else. feeling pretty nice out there. we go down to the shore, upper 50s close to 60 degrees there in wildwood. 60 in dover. feeling pretty good. winds right now out of the north-northwest at 9 miles per hour in philadelphia. winds mainly calm elsewhere. however, a high wind warning goes into effect tonight at midnight for all of the areas shaded there. so damaging potentially damaging winds later tonight into early tomorrow morning. could be really interesting. there's radar showing you just where the moisture is coming from. i'll be back to talk more about the rain and when it will be get out of here for good and tumbling temperatures in just a bit.

new this morning, smashed wreckage is all that's worth after a car hit a pole just after 12:30 this morning. pennsylvania state police were on the scene. we're still gathering information about exactly what happened here and what the fate of the person is inside the crashed car. police in delaware are searching for this man who is wanted for murder. griffin is accused of shooting two men inside the shades of blue bar and grill in wilmington early yesterday morning. one victim died. the other was wounded. police say griffin has ties to philadelphia. anyone with information should contact police. in camden county, authorities there are investigating the death of a pedestrian. sky force 10 was near route 38 last night where the vehicle hit the pedestrian. the driver did stop at the scene. a homicide investigation is under way after a woman's body

was discovered inside of a burned home. it's not clear how the woman died. philadelphia firefighters found her body after battling a blaze on west bristol street last night. a virginia state trooper is being remembered today for his hard work and always ready smile. ♪ >> dozens gathered in richmond last night to pay their respects to 37-year-old trooper chad dermyer. he was shot to death by james brown iii on thursday. brown was then killed by two other troopers. they were there as part of a training exercise. the suspect's family says the former convict had a deep seeded hatred for police. in baltimore, officers prevented a mass shooting by being in the right place at the right time. two officers in an unmarked cruiser spotted two men getting out of a car carrying a rifle

and a handgun. police say the men aimed the guns at someone across the street. that's when the officers opened fire and killed the two suspects. they've been identified as a father and son with criminal records. the knife allegedly found on o.j. simpson's old estate is not the murder weapon used to kill his ex-wife and her friend. police ruled out the knife after nearly a month of forensic testing. simpson was acquitted of the 1994 stabbing deaths of nicole brown simpson and her friend ron goldman. the murder weapon has never been found. simpson is currently serving time in a nevada prison for a hotel robbery. back here in our area, a $1,000 reward to help find a dog killer in chester county. you're looking at one of two dogs that disappeared on thursday. their owner later found them dead near their home. someone stripped off the pets' collars and identifications. it's not clear how the dogs were

killed. state police are investigating the case. in bucks county, investigators are looking into a major fish kill. several hundred fish were found dead or dying in falls township. mo a viewer took this video of the canal. the pennsylvania department of environmental protection believe that low oxygen levels in the water caused the fish to die but they're still investigating what caused the oxygen levels to dip so far down. good morning. i'm meteorologist karen thomas. we have one active weather pattern this weekend for sure. we're checking some morning showers on and off light showers this morning and then that will be moving out. moving in will be high winds. we have a high wind warning ready to go into effect for our area later on tonight midnight actually. and then we watch as the

temperatures will be tumbling. we'll feel a significant difference in those temperatures. temperatures outside right now feeling really pretty good. it's 62 degrees officially at philly international right now with winds out of the north-northwest at 9 and relative humidity is 39%. as i mentioned, temperatures across the region on the mild side this morning. the cold spot, poconos. 44 degrees. we're at 54 degrees up in allentown. 54 in pottstown. it's 60 degrees in dover, delaware, right now. we're keeping a close track on our temperatures as well as the skies. right now we do have light showers in allentown. 54. it's dry but close to 60 in the northeast. atlantic city getting sprinkles and we talk about the story of the temperatures. incredible. topped out at 78 degrees yesterday. look at where we're headed for sunday. we'll be lucky if we get to 4 degrees on sunday. so we're watching on and off

shower activity just pushing up from the southeast and we see to the north and west of philadelphia we get rain activity and that will persist as we move through our morning hours. and then later on as future weather shows us that temperatures will be right at about 60 degrees. we expect a high temperature in philadelphia of 62. do you see the light scattered showers in the picture so as we move through our saturday afternoon, those pesky showers will be around and then overnight tonight into early tomorrow, look at this. another system that pushes through very, very quickly. so not only will the winds be picking up overnight tonight but there's a chance that we get some light scattered showers and maybe even snow flurries moving through to the north of philadelphia into tomorrow. high pressure moves in for our sunday but then as the temperatures take a real dive sunday into sunday night into monday morning, another system moves through and that could bring us some snow shower activity for monday so we're keeping a close eye on this.

are we in spring? hard to believe. morning showers this morning on and off and then all focus will be high winds developing later on. winds will pick up this afternoon but dangerous winds will come overnight into early tomorrow. there's a look at the seven-day forecast. a tale of a very busy forecast for sure. 64 for a high and then we really die right off at 48 degrees for high temperature tomorrow so we'll dry out tomorrow but those winds will persist as we get into monday temperatures in the 50s. we could see snow shower activity monday afternoon, monday night and then we really don't start to warm up and moderate come wednesday. that's when we'll dry out and temperatures will get back to more springlike if you will. so we have a couple days here of winter feel for sure. >> we're looking forward for those 60s. thanks so much, karen. now to decision 2016, wisconsin is the focus of the presidential race with that state's primary coming up on

tuesday. in the republican race, john kasich and ted cruz campaigned at a fish fry in milwaukee last night. former vice presidential candidate sarah palin spoke on behalf of trump. yesterday cruz and kasich were drumming up support in pennsylvania. both spoke to conservatives at the state's leadership conference in harrisburg. donald trump is voicing yet another view on abortion. yesterday he told an interviewer "the laws are set and i think we have to leave it that way." earlier this week the republican front runner backed off his comment that there should be some form of punishment for women who have abortions if the procedure is outlawed. in the democratic race, presidential front runner hillary clinton will campaign in pennsylvania next week. she has an event scheduled in philadelphia. her rival, bernie sanders, spoke in pittsburgh yesterday. last night clinton was in newark, new jersey, to tape a surprise appearance for a b.e.t. award show that's coming up.

new jersey holds its primary on june 7th. pennsylvania and delaware both have their primaries later on this month on april 26th. voter registration closed in pennsylvania this past week. delaware's deadline is today. we now have a little bit better understanding of the pose new jersey governor chris christie struck last month. here's the governor with jimmy fallon on t"the tonight show." you look like you're having fun. just saying, just odd, to have a thing behind you. you don't find that distracting. my eyes are drifting over to someone behind you who doesn't look like he knows where he is. >> christie told fallon he threw his support behind trump because trump is better than the other

candidates. epic rebound on wall street and a black eye for microsoft. cnbc takes a looks at the past week in business news. >> we haven't seen this since fdr was in office. the dow industrials and s&p 500 sank as much as 11% in january and then managed to post gains for the first three months of the year anyway. the last time stocks rebounded in such a spectacular fashion was 1933. the march jobs report has something for everyone. the economy added 215,000 jobs more than analysts expected but the unemployment rate ticked up to 5%. and percentage of americans in the workforce rose but gain in hourly wages was on the weak side. if it feels like filling up your gas tank hasn't been this cheap in ages. you're right. aaa estimates that americans have paid nearly $10 billion less for gas so far this year than they did during the same
