nbc 10 breaking news. deadly hit and run. philadelphia police say someone plowed into a woman crossing a busy roosevelt boulevard and then drove off from the scene. how could one man take nearly 50 lives? new information and video from inside the nightclub to break down minute-by-minute account of the terror in orlando. balls, strikes and bottles. philadelphia police arrest a man they say tossed a beer bottle at phillies star ryan howard. 4:30. 66 degreesç outside. good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm tracy davidson. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with his first alert neighborhood forecast.

a look at conditions right where you are. they're different, right, bill? >> yes, there are cloud cover moving through. the suburbs, 58 degrees right now with a little bit of a breeze. out of the northwest at 7 miles an hour in the lehigh valley where the clouds have broken, just a few thin clouds, visible on this view from easton. we'll see plenty of sunshine like yesterday. just like yesterday, even though the temperatures will be warming up nicely, the humidity stays low. afternoon temperatures in the low 80s. warmer than yesterday. running warmer this morning and that will continue this afternoon. 78 degrees with sunshine at the shore and sunny skies for philadelphia, up to 82 degrees this afternoon. dry today but there is some rain in our future. i'll show you how long you can expect it to stay dry when i come back. jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> we're watching a lot of construction this morning, this one to start is on the vine street expressway.

we are closed right now in between broad street and the schuylkill. you can see from our cameras here around broad street. i just checked in with our other cameras around 24th street. some cars allowed to move back on to the road. some of the off ramps are opening back up earlier than the 5:00 end time. you can see some still closed. your best bet is to keep with the alternate. stay on the vine local to get by right now. 295 is closed between exit 26 around route 42 and exit 25 around delsea drive. that's also supposed to be slated until 5:00 this morning. we will keep you updated if it lifts early. for now, 295 southbound is closed. take the new jersey turnpike to get by. >> right now we continue to follow breaking news. police are looking for the driver who hit and killed a woman. the impact sent her flying hundreds of feet. the crash happened late last night in philadelphia's crescentville section along the

roosevelt boulevard at adams avenue. katy zachry is live on scene. police say the car that hit the victim shouldn't be hard to stop. tell us more about that. >> reporter: it should be easy to identify, tracy. police have given us information they want to impart to the public. they want you to be on the lookout for a white or silver mini van or just a van with extensive front end damage. witnesses say when they saw the van traveling down the roosevelt boulevard, it was speeding, going at a high rate of speed as it turned here on to adams avenue and slammed into the woman who was walking across the crosswalk when the light was green. witnesses told officers the light, again, was green when the woman was hit and thrown about 200 feet. that's half of length of a football field to give you perspective. witnesses said the impact was so strong, the victim was thrown up on to the van's hood, her head slammed into the wind shield,

broke it and then she was airborne. the light was green, so she did have the right of way. this crime has been upgraded from a hit and run to vehicular homicide. >> the driver of that vehicle struck someone and killed them and left the scene. so they have to turn themselves in. because they are going to get caught. >> a few things working for police right now. they have witness statements. there were a number of people out here who saw that deadly hit and run. they also have evidence from the roadway behind me in just the last little bit. they cleared up all the evidence markers and re-opened the road. they also have a strong vehicle description. again, a whiteç or silver mini van or work van that has extensive front end damage. they still, unfortunately, do not know who the victim is. she was not carrying any i.d. they believe she's in her late teens or early 20s. reporter live in crescentville, katy zachry, nbc 10 news.

this morning, a bicyclist is dead after being hit in camden county around 10:00 last night on route 130 in pennsauken. police tell us the driver stayed at the scene. the name of the by siicyclist h not been released. police have not said if the driver will be charged. today, the fan accused of throwing a bottle at phillies first baseman ryan howard will be in court. 21-year-old sydney smith from wilmington turned himself in on friday. he's charged with disorderly conduct. howard wasn't hurt until the incident on june 4th at citizens bank park. the terror in orlando sparked vigils for victims across the country. pennsylvania governor tom wolf joined members of the community for a vigil in harrisburg yesterday. he ordered flags at state facilities lowered to half-staff in honor of the victims. the massacre in orlando has people talking about stricter gun control laws in the country. yesterday, the south jersey shooting club in winslow township, nbc 10 found people

there firing semiautomatic sporting rifles, which are legal in new jersey. those guns are similar to the ar-style rifle the shooter used in orlando. people we spoke with at the club with worried that lawmakers will try to tighten gun rules for law-abiding owners. >> i'm all for fixing an issue if there's an issue. i believe there's 100% an issue with the accessibility of firearms in this country. to certain individuals. >> a sport shop next to the range sells ar-style rifles and offers classes on using them. that shop's owner believes more thorough background checks are needed nationwide, not stricter limitations on gun ownership. we continue to learn new details about the terror in orlando and how that chaos played out. ahead, we take a minute-by-minute look at how the gunman took so many lives before his final deadly standoff with police. also ahead -- ♪

the mid-county tolls, the right lane closed there. more construction to talk about. i'll tell you about where it is when i come back in the next ten. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. less than an hour before sunrise. we are on track for another beautiful day today. there are clouds around right now. 66 degrees in philadelphia. as the morning progresses, the clouds will break. a little bit of a breeze out of the north at 8 miles an hour. the winds won't be as strong as yesterday. just enough to keep the humidity low. by 2:00 this afternoon, philadelphia up to 77 degrees. for the suburbs, starting off with the same clouds. sunshine will take over. 73 at lunch time, near 80 degrees at 4:00 this afternoon and the lehigh valley, we'll see more sunshine to start with today. mostly clear skies now at 59 degrees. bright sunshine from 8:00 right on through 4:00 this afternoon. in south jersey and delaware, beautiful day yesterday. south jersey saw temperatures climb into the upper 70s. that will happen again today.

4:44. good morning, center city. this is looking up broad street toward city hall. beautiful pictures this time of morning. 56 degrees right now. now to the terror in orlando. we have a time line of how the deadliest mass shooting in u.s. history unfolded. 2:00 a.m. sunday morning, latin knight at pulse nightclub with dancing and partying in full swing. suddenly an off-duty officer working security gets into a gun fight with 29-year-old omar mateen. he's armed with an assault rifle and plenty of ammunition. the officer retreats. his backup arrives in two minutes. by then, the injure ready pouring out of the club. responding officers get into a

gun battle with mateen, forcing him back through the club and into a bathroom where he takes four to five hostages. dozens of people are trying to escape and run for their lives. mateen made calls to 911 calmly pledging his allegiance to isis. survivors say the shooter tried to hide among the dead. he shoots one officer in the head who is saved by his kevlar helmet. finally, three hours after mateen opened fire, officers shoot and kill him. the tragedy in orlando has people looking for ways to help the victims. many are heading to blood banks in florida and here at home. nbc 10's vai sikahema is live in the digital operations center with that part of our coverage this morning. good morning, vai. >> good morning, tracy. immediately after the mass shooting calls went out to the community to donate to an orlando blood bank to replace blood that was also being used.

people are answering that call. dozens lined up yesterday. it was the second day in a row that hundreds of people offered to give the gift of life. some were turned away sunday because the blood banks were at capacity. but they were urged to return because the need neverç stops. >> i wish i could give more. sad thing about what happened over here. >> we refuse to have an event like what's happened at pulse define what orlando is. >> it wasn't just the donors showing their kindness. other organizations came to give food, water, even putting up shade to keep people cool as they waited. and donations are also up here at home. nbc 10 at camden county college in blackwood, the school teemd up with the red cross and county leaders to take blood donations there. they tell us there was a steady stream of donors throughout the day. those who came in to give blood tell us they just want to help. >> when things like that do

the sound of bagpipes echoed through the memorial sports complex in evesham township. 22-year-old christina gained fame as a contestant on nbc's "the voice." she was killed friday night after she signed autographs after a show. her brother marcus chased down and tackled the gunman. he talked about the loss of his little sister at the vigil. >> she loved this town. she loved this state. she loved singing. she loved the lord and she loved me. and she was my baby sister. >> investigators do not believe the killer, knew grimmie personally. adam levine agreed to pay her funeral expenses. the singer was her mentor when she finished third on "the voice" two years ago. hillary clinton and bernie sanders plan to meet tonight in washington just after polls close in the d.c. democratic primary. senator sanders said he and

clinton will be talking about her campaign. sanders says he wants to learn if clinton will strongly support issues that he cares about such as universal health care and making public college tuition free. sanders said whatever happens at the meeting, he will not be endorsing clinton. again, democratic voters in washington go to the polls today in the final primary of 2016. 4:49. let's check your ride to work on this tuesday morning including the vine street expressway. it had been closed for overnight construction. let's get an update with jessica boyington. jessica? >> still closed this morning. some of the off ramps are starting to open a little bit earlier. this one around broad street is still closed. you can see the cones in the area there as well. the sign pointing all traffic to the right-hand side. all traffic still being diverted off on to the exit for broad street, in between strobroad st and the schuylkill, we're still seeing the new jersey.

bellmawr, 295 southbound it was closed between the 42 freeway and delsea çdrive. it's now been lifted out of the way, though there are still active construction there. southbound it won't be closed anymore. watch the pa turnpike for more construction. the pa turnpike westbound between valley forge and downingtown. the right lane is closed. it's a 24-minute drive time at the most westbound from route 1 to valley forge. more updates when i come back. now your nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist bill henley. ten minutes before 5:00. a beautiful start this morning. there's still a few clouds moving through this morning. those lingering clouds will not last all day. in fact, they'll be out of here quickly. we're in for another beauty, bright sunshine, a nice breeze on this flag day. the winds won't be as strong as yesterday. but they keep the humidity low and the clear skies and comfortable weather continues into this evening. stand by to enjoy. things are running warmer in

parts of the area compared to yesterday morning. middle 60s right now in atlantic city, low 60s for mt. holly at 66 degrees in philadelphia. it's a little bit cooler north an west for most spots, wilmington is actually seven degrees warmer than yesterday at this time. up by two for philadelphia, mt. holly, atlantic city is 5 degrees warmer this morning. a warmer start for much of the area. once the clouds move out, plenty of sunshine for a quick warmup into the low 80s this afternoon. low is the key word for today when it comes to the humidity. the northwesterly winds will push the clouds out, continue to flow in, bringing in that cool, dry air from canada that was so nice yesterday. that continues today. look farther to the west and there are showers and some thunderstorms from chicago into nebraska, oklahoma seeing that activity. that is all going to be kept at bay for today. and again tomorrow. but it will be making some progress to the east. and by tomorrow, we'll start to see some clouds building by late

in the day. that's first thing tomorrow morning. nice and clear for our area. we'll see plenty of sunshine, the humidity stays low tomorrow. by 5:00 in the afternoon, the showers are growing closer. by thursday morning, we have wet weather to start with. futurecast shows showers and possibly some thunderstorms by first thing thursday morning. so it will be getting a whole lot cloudier and the wet weather will keep things cooler, too, at the end of the week. for today, 82 degrees. warmer than yesterday. seeing the warmer temperatures this morning and a bigger warmup tomorrow. humidity will stay low for both today and tomorrow. but it's a different story for thursday and friday. the umbrellas will be going up, the temperatures won't be as high. 75 degrees on thursday. 70s with rain on friday but we are on track for sunshine for the weekend. greats in news for father's day activities. 82 degrees on sunday. monday we'll it warm up into the upper 80s, the 90s are back for tuesday, wednesday and thursday. tracy? >> bill, thanks. eight minutes before 5:00 right

good morning, everyone. jessica boyington watching your first alert traffic right now. we're watching more construction on route 202. this is right around 401. you can see lane restrictions in both directions there. active road work there. we'll check in with the vine street expressway when i come back in the 5:00 hour. four before 5:00 right now. new this morning, water contamination in montgomery county could lead to a lawsuit for the navy. the giovanni family who lives near the now defunct willow grove station is threatening to file a lawsuit if they don't make a difference.

the navy has 60 days to respond. in just a few hours, closing arguments will resume in the federal corruption trail of congressman chaka fattah. yesterday, prosecutors told jurors that fattah led a white-collar crime spree stretching from philadelphia to capitol hill. fattah is accused of stealing from campaign accounts to pay for his son's college debt and taking bribes. defense lawyers insist there is no evidence linking the congressman to alleged crimes. today governor tom wolf in pennsylvania will get an outpatient procedure done as part of his prostate cancer treatment. the governor will be out of the office today and tomorrow. earlier this year be heç announced that he was diagnosed with the disease but that it is treatable. a burlington county community comes together to honor one of their own. retired private first class

lawrence gladfelter gets special honors for his commitment to serving others. take a look. yesterday, mount holly's mayor and town council presented a certificate of appreciation to gladfelter. he served in the army in the early 1960s. -his service he spent more than 20 years working for the burlington county sheriff's office. he went on to serve in the american american legion and helped form the mt. holly neighborhood watch program. >> i toll the mayor, there are other people far more deserving than i. quite frankly, how can you possibly imagine that you'll be chosen. >> still humble. every month mt. holly honors a veteran nominated by neighbors. we salute you, retired private first class lawrence gladfelter. >> what a great thing for young

let's begin with meteorologist bill henley in the first alert weather center. we'll get lots of sunshine today, bill. >> we will. once the clouds come out. you can see the clouds over the comcast center. no rain with the clouds. they'll be blowing out of here with the same northwesterly winds we had yesterday. out of the north at 12 miles an hour. 64 degrees in philadelphia. the temperature is coming down. it's a little bit cooler in some of the suburbs. 57 degrees with light winds in the suburbs, 58 degrees for the lehigh valley. and new jersey is starting to brighten up ahead of sunshine today. 62 degrees in south jersey. while delaware, a few clouds move past frawley stadium at this hour. those clouds will be thinning out, bright sunshine, just like yesterday. just like yesterday, the humidity stays low. even though we'll get a nice warmup, 71 degrees by 11:00 and then into the low 80s this afternoon. it will stay nice and comfortable. 81 in the lehigh valley. delaware and new jersey, into the very low 80s while at the shore, it's upper
