let's check with meteorologist bill henley to see what's to come with his nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather. bill? >> skies are clear. we'll have a great view of the sun today. skies are glowing. look at the suburbs, king of prussia, no clouds to be found here. it's a cool start and a quick warmup. by 9:00, 69 degrees. low 80s by lunch time and the city is glowing as well. a little bit warmer in the city, 68 degrees now. 70s by 8:00. then it's into the 80s as we go into the afternoon. we'll be challenging to upper 70s at 11:00 this north. warmer later today. yesterday's high was 83. in philadelphia, 85 degrees this afternoon. the humidity stays low for the suburbs, new jersey. at the shore, upper 70s to low 80s this afternoon. 78 degrees for north wildwood. look at the sunshine for the lehigh valley and delaware, into the 80s today. nice and comfortable today. i'll take you through these forecasts hour by hour when i'm back in just a few minutes. first, jessica boyington has an update on the first alert

traffic. >> thanks, bill. starting off on 422. breaking news to report. we have a closure again. earlier this morning we had another portion of 422 closed headed eastbound. this is a completely separate situation, right around township line road we have another closure here and, again, headed eastbound. some delays there because of that. we have skyforce 10 making its way to the scene. we'll have live updates when it gets there. cherry hill, new jersey, route 70, kings highway, everybody moving along, roads are dry and no big backups or delays to report. there's an accident in upper dublin onç susquehanna road an south limekiln pike. a man is in the hospital after being shot in the buttocks outside a philadelphia home. police were called to south 32nd street in grays ferry. he was hit by a bullet while standing outside a friend's house. other bullets shattered a glass storm door. the victim is listed in stable

condition. there are no arrests. philadelphia police are looking into a shooting that apparently stemmed from a fight in university city. the man was shot while a group of women was fighting at 39th and ludlow near market street. the shooting victim is listed in stable condition. also new from overnight, one man is dead in philadelphia after he was shot and killed during a break-in. nbc 10's pamela osborne is live outside police headquarters in center city. police tell us this man was an exboyfriend trying to get into his exgirlfriend's house, right? >> that's right, tracy. he tried for a second time to get inside of that home. the first time they say the 33-year-old tried to get in through a kitchen window. the woman who lives there is the ex and mother of his two children. she and her current boyfriend were able to push him out of her marco street home. this was just after midnight. that's when police say the first call was made to 911. the caller told the operator someone was breaking in.

police tell us the people inside of the home heard a commotion, they went upstairs and found the ex managed to get in through a second story window. police say he first got into a fight with his exgirlfriend, then her current boyfriend. the current boyfriend shot the man in the chest. that's when another call was made to 911. this time, the caller informed police someone had been shot. police found the 33-year-old man lying on the floor of that bedroom. they rushed him to the hospital where he died. the man's children, again, were at home, at the time all of this happened. we know they were taken away to be interviewed by policeç as w the mother of those children. now, police say the boy frern actually took off. he was gone from the scene by the time they got there. they would like for him to come forward with speak with detectives. they're still trying to piece together what happened, why the exboyfriend was there, where the gun came from. that's the latest here from police headquarters.

reporting live this morning, i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. five minutes past 6:00. a man accused of beating a toddler to death in a dispute over groceries is being held on a million dollars bail this morning. zachary tricochi stood with his head down in court yesterday as prosecutor talked about the final moments of his victim's life. prosecutors say tricochi shoved his girlfriend saturday night in their pennsauken apartment because he was upset with the food she bought and when her 2-year-old started to cry, tricochi allegedly beat the boy to death. afterwards the toddler's family said they wished new jersey still had the death penalty. >> because he should be put to sleep. because he killed my grandson. he should be killed. he shouldn't be sitting in no cell for the rest of his life, eating, getting phone calls and writing letters. he should be dead because my grandson is dead. >> the boy's mother was also at the courthouse but said they could not bear being inside the courtroom for tricochi's hearing. a sports radio controversy sparked by a white sports talk

three of an appeal hearing for convicted child sex offender jerry sandusky. a lawyer for sandusky questioned the prosecutor of the case in 2012. he denied he misled the identity of one of the accusers. the judge is expected to make a decision within a few weeks. 6:07. happening today, attorneys will hold a news conference to discuss the results of their investigation into a railing collapse that injured fans at a snoop dogg concert in camden earlier this month. nbc 10's monique braxton is live in camden with a preview. monique? >> in just a couple of hours, attorney bob mongaloosi will sit down with his offices here on market street. he plans to reveal what his team has discovered from an independent investigation. the video posted online shows the moment dozens who were dancing suffered broken bones

and bruises. a railing collapsed at the bb&t pavilion in camden. skyforce 10 captured the scene shortly after the railing fell. you see yellow tape and first responders evaluating those injured. this accident abruptly ended. the live nation snoop dogg high road tour concert. attorney mongaloosi called for a moratorium on concerts at the venue. he believes this tragedy is similar to the railing collapse in 1998 at veterans stadium during the army/navy game. we're going to be at the news conference that's scheduled for 10:00 and have the outcome for you in our later newscast. live for now, along market street, monique braxton, nbc 10 news. monique, thank you. and a montgomery county community is being warned about west nile after mosquitos were found with the disease. officials in abington township say an advisory was e-mailed to residents warning them of the

potential of west nile in the area. the county spokesperson saying spraying has been scheduled for tomorrow night to combat the threat. residents we spoke to say they appreciate the quick action. >> glad they're taking care of it. it is scary. and eventually it would have come here anyway. i'm glad they're trying to nip it in the bud. >> so far, there have been no reported cases of west nile in the abington area. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 6:09. cape may marina is looking for sunshine. you'll find it today once the sun comes up, the temperatures will be climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s at the shore. you won't see any clouds during the day today. the humidity will stay nice and low. looking at 50s and 60s. just shy of 70 degrees in atlantic city. mullica township is 56 degrees. woodbine 58 degrees. a pleasant start. most of the area is running warmer, though, compared to yesterday morning at 68 degrees

in philadelphia. you'll find 60 degrees even and trenton and 60s forev wilmingto and dover. six degrees warmer in philadelphia, up by nine degrees in coatesville. it's a trend that will continue this afternoon. satellite, radar, nothing to show you here. we're in the clear today. so we will see the temperatures warm into the 80s this afternoon. we made it into the 80s yesterday. just a little bit warmer later today. 73 degrees at 9:00. bright sunshine at 1:00 for philadelphia. the suburbs, nothing but sunshine here. the humidity stays low. partly so mostly sunny skies at 5:00 thisç afternoon. 82 degrees in the lehigh valley. nothing but sunshine there, too. delaware, humidity stays low. a few scattered clouds this afternoon, afternoon temperatures in the low 80s at 5:00 and new jersey, sunny skies all day long. 72 degrees at 9:00. into the low 80s at 1:00 in the afternoon, middle 80s this

afternoon and the shore will see a nice warmup, topping out around 80 degrees at 1:00 today. the humidity stays low for each of these locations for today. if you've been checking out the seven-day forecast, scrolling at the bottom of the screen, that's one seven day for each part of our area. it shows much hotter weather is on the way. with that heat will come humidity. a look at that when i'm back in just a few minutes. tracy, vai? >> bill, thanks. 11 minutes past 6:00. we continue to follow an accident on 422. earlier this morning it was closed at one point because of an accident. now there's another point we're watching eastbound. >> jessica has been watching this. give us an update. >> 422 earlier accident has cleared and re-opened. and then within the next half hour or so, another accident scene occurred closing it again, headed eastbound around township line road. big delays as well. skyforce 10 almost arriving to the scene. we will have a live picture for you when i'm back in the next

6:16. we're following breaking news overseas. the death toll continues to rise following a strong earthquake that hit central italy early this morning. the mayor of one community said, quote, the town isn't here anymore. now at least 37 people, that's a new number, are reported dead. the magnitude 6.2 quake hit 100 miles north of rome. workers and residents are digging through the rubbleç trying to reach survivors who may be trapped. pope francis invited pilgrims from st. peters square to recite the rosary to pray for the quake victims. back here at home, kids across our area are getting ready for school or enjoying

their last few days of summer. that means it's time to break the summertime habit. matt delucia is live outside the christina school district with advice from the experts. >> when students head back to school in the christina school district elsewhere in our area, it will be back to classes, back to home work and back to the after-school routines. now is the time to get yourself ready as well as your kids. teachers, they've been busy the past couple weeks getting the classrooms all set up, getting the supplies they need. doctors are busy talking to parents about what they need to do. try to notice any changes in how your kids act. it could pinpoint learning problems or bullying. of course you want the kids to be well round with the sports or activities but you need to also be aware of that as well. >> so the main thing is we don't want to overschedule him. okay. we say, okay, pick one or two depending on the schedule. allow them to do that. and give them time to do it.

what's most important is that kids aren't so heavily scheduled that they're tired when they get home, they don't get to have dinner with their family, they don't have play time with their friends and by the time they study it's so late that they can't even concentrate. >> it's important to keep that in mine. as for sleep, that is also very important. get that bedtime and wakeup schedule started now, according to the doctor you just heard from there. if a child is 3 to 5 years old they need about 12 hours of sleep a night, between ages 6 and 13, 10 it 12 hours a night and teenagers need about 9 to 10 hours of sleep every night. live in wilmington, matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> thank you, matt. 6:18.ç the situation on 422 has been a problem spot throughout the morning. >> eastbound, let's find out exactly where. nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington has been monitoring that. >> we have skyforce 10 live over top of the scene now. good news to report, though, we

did have all eastbound lanes closed. you can see they have a lot of the accident scene pushed over into the right-hand shoulder and the next lane over. now one lane getting through. that's good news but we still have major backups, 422 headed eastbound around township line road. as we zook out, that will be quite some delay with one lane moving for quite some distance. now all of those cars that are headed eastbound on 422 have to be stuck behind this. we didn't even really recover from the delays on the earlier closure from a completely separate accident scene. there was an accident investigation under way for several hours as well. blue bell, a truck into a utility pole on north wales road. that's closed around yost road. belmont avenue, eastbound drive time still looks great. 13 minutes from the blue route to the vine street expressway. the westbound side starting to see brake lights moving around the curve there. other than that, you're pretty

afternoon. up to 87 for somerton, lansdale warms to 8 a5 and 86 in doylestown. easton is 87, 85 for kutztown and allentown. new jersey, bright, sunny skies, 80s this afternoon. warmer in trenton than evesham township. cape may, atlantic city, both up to 78 degrees this afternoon. ocean city warms to 82. the humidity stays low this afternoon at the shore. looking good with bright, sunny skies for rehoboth beach and smyrna. a bit warmer than wilmington, 83 degrees in wilmington this afternoon. there are some changes ahead. you won't see anything showing up on the satellite and radar in our area today. i am watching a storm city way to the west. ahead of it, muggy air is building, pushing into the ohio valley now. we'll start to feel that tomorrow as the winds will be increasing and coming out of the south. that's a warming direction for us. it tends to bring in more humidity this time of year.

humidity is nice and low, another morning with cool temperatures. low 60s in new jersey and the suburbs. we will see bright sunshine in philadelphia. we are seeing bright sunshine. the temperatures will respond. 70 degrees at 8:00, then 80 degrees by 11:00 this morning. look at the sunshine coming up in the lehigh valley. delaware is looking good, too. the lehigh valley is one of the cooler spots at 57 degrees. it's into the 70s by midmorning and midday into the low 80s. the temperatures will rebound. and all these locations will warm into the 80s this afternoon. warmer than yesterday. 85 for new jersey, the suburbs, for philadelphia and into the low to mid-80s for delaware and the lehigh valley. we head into the shore, bought full day yesterday. another winner today. but there are changes ahead. in fact, heat and humidity, maybe you'veç noticed it with e seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. i'll go through the forecast hour by hour to show you how quickly it warms up this afternoon when i'm back in a few minutes. right now, let's get a check of

traffic. jessica boyington in the first alert traffic center. >> thanks, bill. we are watching 422 still. we're doing better here. we have skyforce 10 live over top of the scene right now. this accident scene, some debris in the road as well. this accident scene is over into the right-hand shoulder. we have the next lane over blocked. one lane getting by. that's the left-hand lane. a few moments ago, they had all the traffic stopped for removal of things in the area. we're seeing a big backup here. we haven't quite record, an eastbound delay here from an earlier accident scene as well. we're seeing big delays, a lot of cars, pretty much at a standstill. you can see even crawling with the one lane moving through the area. 422 eastbound right around township line road is where that accident scene is. big delays there. a water main break in norristown, johnson highway around arch street. that roadway is closed because of that. cleanup under way there as well. we'll check in with 422 when i'm

back in ten. new from overnight, police are looking for the man who shot and killed his girlfriend's ex, after police say that ex broke into the woman's house. pamela osborne is live outside police headquarters in center city. >> before the exboyfriend was fatally shot, he tried to break into that home, not once but twice. the first time they say the 33-year-old tried to get in through a kitchen window. the woman who lives there is his exgirlfriend and mother of his two children. she and her current boyfriend were able to push him out of their home, on marco street, just after midnight. that's when police say the first call was made to 911. the caller told the operator that someone was breakingr'to the house. police tell us the people inside heard commotion, they went upstairs and found the ex had managed to get in through a second-story bedroom window.

a man wrongly convicted of murder and rape is enjoying his first morning as a free man after being locked up for 25 years. >> this is pretty amazing. nbc 10 was there as anthony wright left the fromhold correctional facility yesterday. dna proved his innocence in the death of a 77-year-old woman back in 1991. that evidence linked the crime to a man who died in 2013. wright thanked the innocence project for helping him win a new trial. >> i feel like i'm the luckiest guy in the world, like they are my guardian angels. i feel like they saved my life. i want to do whatever my granddaughter wants to do. i want to do whatever my grandson wants to do. i want toç be grandpa and dad. >> later today, wright will meet the jurors who acquitted him. 6:36. now to decision 2016. hillary clinton heads west today for some fund raisers in

california, then a rally on thursday in nevada. >> meantime, donald trump will hold a rally in florida and mississippi. yesterday, trump sent his running mate, mike pence to our area. pence stopped by the tech tube incorporated, a tubing manufacturer in king of prussia. he told the crowd there hillary clinton will raise taxes and send more people into unemployment. pence then visited a bucks county manufacturing plan the where he said donald trump is committed to getting more americans back to work. pence also made a quick stop in norristown to get a haircut. nbc 10 was at jones barber and hairstyles on main street where the indiana governor got a trim. we asked the barber, henry jones, if he was a little nervous. >> not really. not really, no. i just surprised. whoa. ain't going to be able to sleep tonight, man. >> jones said he met pence's family an they all seemed like pretty nice people. donald trump has been

softening his pledge to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants. >> at a rally in texas he did not back off his promise of building a wall. >> we are going to build the wall. and who's going to pay for the wall? >> trump also took aim at hillary clinton accusing her of favoring what he called massive amnesty for undocumented immigrants. trump is expected to unveil his full immigration plan next week. hillary clinton is under fire for a growing controversy surrounding the clinton foundation. trump is leading a call for a special prosecutor to investigate after reports that 15,000 more e-mails could be released before the election. the e-mails raise the question of whether foundation donors got special access to (ar'ton while she was secretary of state. the clinton campaign denies any wrongdoing. now your nbc 10 first alert weather.

>> 6:38. the time and we've got sunshine. we are in the clear this morning. you're heading out, the temperatures are cool like yesterday. humidity is low. we'll see bright sunshine during the day. barely a cloud in the sky this afternoon. that will make for another comfortable evening this evening with clear skies. there are changes ahead. for today, it's the temperatures that will wind up a bit warmer and are starting off warmer. in philadelphia, 68 degrees. the other thing that's going to change is the wind. it started to shift. we'll sea a southwesterly breeze. it will be very light today. humidity won't be quite as low as yesterday but it will be close. a comfortable 82 degrees at lunch time and philadelphia into the middle 80s. for the suburbs, bright sunshine, cool this morning, 64 degrees right now. up more than 10 degrees by 10:00. that warming trend will continue as we go into the afternoon. 84 degrees at 4:00. that southwesterly wind will be present today, stronger tomorrow. that's when we'll see more

toxic chemicals called pfcs linked to cancer were used in firefighting foam at willow grove naval air station and horsham air guard station. the giovannis lived across the street for 13 years. test results of their private well water revealed 40 times the amount of pfcs considered safe over a lifetime. they want the navy to cover the cost of monitoring the family's future health. the navy has rejected requests to pay for large-scale health testing. the navy won't pay because experts have not found value in those kinds of tests. a young boy from baltimore who became the world's first bilateral hand transplant recipient is marking a milestone. it's been one year that zion harvey had his hands amputated because of an infection. in theç year, zion has made miraculous strides. zion says his family deserves all the credit.

their classrooms gun-free. they were denied by a judge on monday. a record-breaking 5,100 freshman will start moving into temple today. some 2,500 pen students also moving in today. the new college house will be ho emto more than 300 freshmen. it's a bran new facility that includes dorms, cafe and public areas. and the next step in creating community schools in philadelphia gets started today. nine schools will be the first to become hubs for social, health and other neighborhood services. this is all part of mayor jim kenney's community schools initiative. he'll meet the newly hired school coordinators and support staff as they start a two-week training boot camp. the schools will look at the needs in their communities and come up with plans to meet them. they will start implementing the plans in december.
