the embers are burning as wild fires sweep through the smokey mountains. thousands have evacuated. dozens of buildings burn to the ground. and tennessee's most cherished areas that includes dolly parten's dollywood. and new information on what brought down the plane carrying a brazilian soccer team. i had a wonderful evening with president elect trump. we have anther discussion about affairs throughout the world and these discussions have been enlig enlightening and interesting and engaging. i've enjoyed them very, very

much. a dangerous pipeline explosion in the kansas city area. and the long awaiting return of tying woods. "early today" starts right now. we begin this wednesday morning with breaking news on a deadly and destructive weather in the south. there are at least three confirmed fatalities after a tornado tore through alabama. bill, talk about the threat. is it still over? >> no, it's not over yet. we're still dealing with a tornado watch. we have at least one active tornado warning. the worst of it overnight had been earlier in areas of mississippi and then shifted to alabama overnight. we rrer still dealing with the line of strong storms. as of now we have about 85 reports of eeth wind damage or tornados. so far 27 reports and the deadliest was in jackson

county. the extreme northeast corner of alabama. that's where the three fatalities are reported. these numbers of injuries and deaths will probably fluctuate throughout the morning. very little warning for the people in the way of these. they're typically the deadliest and when day break comes we'll see a lot more destruction. we'll continue to watch it. also overnight firefighters are still battling wild fires that have forced the evacuation of over 14,000 people in tennessee. the fire storm exploded in seconds. they thought they were safe until they looked out their windows. >> panic. that's all we had was panic. we could feel the heat coming off of -- it was nothing but red. >> this whole place was on fire. >> how would you describe this. >> the gates of hell. >> so scary to see. this is a resort town about an

hour from knoxville. the flames threatened several popular tourist destinations, the great smokey mountains, the most visited national park in the country and an aquarium and dollywood was spared but parten says she is heart broken and praying for all the families. three people have died so far in these wild fires, some of the biggest the state has ever seen. >> this is the largest fire in the last 100 years of the state of tennessee. >> and tonight with the fire still burning they're beginning to assess the damage. entire neighborhoods destroyed. they're investigating the cause of the fire and have not ruled out arson. we're learning more about the plane crash in columbia that killed 71 people. investigators have retrieved two black boxes from the aircraft. on the flight water brazilian soccer team on their way to a

what caused a pipeline to burst into flames. crews were called to the scene. the pipeline was transporting propain. the flames, which could be seen from miles away didn't effect any flights to and from the international airport. no one was hurt in the incident. police in manchester england have released new video of a terrifying road rage incident in the hope it will lead them to this angry driver. they were seen arguing along a busy highway. th they say the truck driver turned vienlt when asked to share his insurance information. the man repeatedly slammed his truck into the victim's vehicle. he took a shovel, smashed their wind shield. the two victims were not hurt but very shaken up. there is a whole lot to celebrate this holiday season for 20 co workers from a tennessee manufacturing plant.

he's accused of gunning down walter scott in april of last year. sfwlrks this bistander's dramatic cell phone video appears to show walter scott being shot in the back multiple times. in a charleston, south carolina courtroom, the former officer accused of scott's murder gave his first detailed public account of what happened. >> i fired until the threat was stopped. >> reporter: he says he pulled scott over for a broken tail light and was preparing to writing him a warning but scott bolted from his car. >> in my mind people don't run from a broken tail light. >> reporter: they say he fled because he was behind on child support payments and feared being arrested. he fired his taser three times but that didn't stop scott from grabbing the stun gun. >> it was total fear that
