coming down at this hour. there's cape may. the steady rain has pushed north. it's just north of atlantic city moving through ship bottom, toms river, and inland to philadelphia. glassboro seeing some, leisuretown getting showers and showers moving into reading, burks county. this is going to move into the lehigh valley, as well. you see lynn getting light rain and heading into lehigh. we're starting off with rain. i'm not expecting rain all day. in fact, we should see late-day sunshine today. it's going to be a mostly cloudy kind of dreary day today. we're in the 50s right now. it's not going to be a big warmup. 58 in new jersey. 55 in the suburbs. and philadelphia at 59. the northeasterly winds are blowing. they'll still be going at 8:00 and 11:00. that's going to keep clouds in place, each though the showers -- even though the showers will be tapering off. rain done by 11:00 this morning. we'll see drying conditions as the temperatures move into the 60s this afternoon. not a huge warmup.

normally in the upper 70s for memorial day. 68 degrees the high in philadelphia. 64 for the suburbs. delaware with some late-day sunshine, 71 degrees. a few showers this morning in delaware, and then drying out for the rest of the day. i'll break it down hour by hour to show you when those showers are likely to exit your neighborhood when i'm back in ten minutes. first let's see how the cars and trucks are moving. francesca ruscio has an update from the first alert traffic center. and bill, very few out there at this time. what we're looking at is a wide map of the majors. as you see, everything is still very green. so i'm looking for any hints of yellow, red, indicating any slowdowns for your holiday. for the moefst part, we're finen the blue route, schuylkill expressway for the philadelphia area. 95 southbound for the philadelphia area, pennsylvania turnpike to 95, everywhere you go, we're doing just fine. also doing just fine -- let's zoom in to the vine street expressway. either direction, the roadways still pretty well out there now. take your time. watch for slick spots. as you see, eastbound 495, we're going to be fine.

westbound for the schuylkill, obviously no delays. that's always great news out there. let's look at 422 now. either direction, still very green. route 29 toward the schuylkill expressway. it's going to take you eight minutes. another update in the next ten minutes. katy? >> thanks for that. the memorial day holiday took to the skies last night as a fireworks display at penn's landing there lit up the philadelphia skyline. today more solemn events are planned as we pause to remember those who died fighting for the flag. nbc10's pamela osborne is live for us at penn's landing. tell us more about how people can get involved today and honor those who lost their lives. >> reporter: today at the seaport museum, there will be a ceremony to honor our fallen service men and women. that begins with a wreath laying ceremony at 2:00 this afternoon. that's not all. you're looking at video from last year's festivities. there are several events happening throughout our area today that are centered around the sacrifice of our service

members. in lansdale, a parade steps off on main street at 9:00 followed by a 10:00 ceremony at memorial park. language horn and bristol -- langhorne and bristol bucks county has a parade. and the knights of columbus have a ceremony that begins at 10:00 this morning. we're working on a full list of everything that's happening. you can find that list on our website, reporting live in penn's landing, i'm pamela osborne, nbc10 news. >> thank you. 5:03. yesterday's rain did not stop volunteers from honoring a memorial day tradition at arlington national cemetery. they placed 160,000 roses on graves at the cemetery. the practice began in 2011. today the same volunteers will hand out thousands more rouses o visitors and family of fallen troops. today president trump will visit arlington national cemetery to honor america's

fallen. you're looking at his visit the day before his inauguration in january. today the president will place a wreath at the tomb of the unknown soldier. he'll also speak at a remembrance ceremony. vice president mike pence will honor memorial day by kicking off the project hero bike ride in washington. the annual cycling event raises funds for a nonprofit that helps wounded veterans, particularly those suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. president trump is back at the white house after his trip overseas. >> yeah. and he's facing new questions about the russia investigation. reports say the president and his white house team are bracing for those questions. multiple sources confirm his son-in-law and adviser, jared kushner, is under scrutiny by the fbi. according to the "washington post," kushner tried to set up back-channel communications with russia. >> not a target, and so i think i would just wait. sounds like he's more than glad to talk about all of these things. >> i don't see any big issue

here relative to -- relative to jared. >> there ought to be a review of his security clearance to find out whether he was truthful. >> yesterday the president posted a series of tweets about the media generating what he called fake news. new overnight, south korea's president has called for a security meetings hours after north korea conducted another missile test. the u.s. military says they fired what appears to be a short-range missile off the east coast this morning. the missile was tracked for six minutes until it landed in the sea of japan. that's about 280 miles from where it was launched. on sunday, north korea claimed to have tested a new type of anti-aircraft-guided weapon. former vice president mike pence is endorsing a candidate in the new jersey governor's race calling the contest the most important in the nation. biden was in north jersey yesterday at a rally for phil murphy, the democratic front-runner. murphy served under former president barack obama as ambassador to germany.

murphy and his rivals are looking to succeed republican governor chris christie. six democrats are vying for the gubernatorial nomination. five republicans are in the race including lieutenant governor kim guadagno. the primary is one week from tomorrow on june 6th. speaking of new jersey, a group of eighth graders from jersey are making headlines for schooling house speaker paul ryan. about half of the 200 kids refused ed td to pose for a phh ryan last week. this is the scene before the photo was taken. students who opted out pointed to ryan's unwillingness to criticize president trump. today would have been president john f. kennedy's 100th birthday. the u.s. postal service will mark the occasion by dedicating a new jfk stamp. a ceremony is polalanned for brookline, massachusetts, where kennedy was born on this date in 1970. kennedy was assassinated at the age of 46.

i've got wet weather in the area. it is going to be with us for much of the day today. the chance of showers will be decreasing this morning. but there's still a slight chance later today. wilmington, that's a live view from frawley stadium in wilmington. sunshine on hold to start with. the temperatures that are in the 50s right now will climb only into the 60s this afternoon. we're seeing some very light fog that's developed in coatesville. not happening for allentown, bluebell, and philadelphia. might see reduced visibilities with the rain. the rain is already tapering off in atlantic city and wildwood. no fog in dover, either, this hour. not a lot of rain left. the showers are dying to the southwest, and the steady rain from philadelphia into burlington county into northeastern portions of new jersey, that rain will be ending this morning. and then there's just a chance of a shower this afternoon. northeast philadelphia getting some rain right now. and you see some thunderstorms to the west. those are going to miss us.

that activity heads to the northeast. a little bit of wet weather this morning. and then we will see some breaks of late-day sunshine. 8:00 this morning, the rain still falling in philadelphia, into new jersey, and the suburbs with the steadier, heavier rainfall into the pocono mountains. and then look how it sweeps out of here by 11:30 this morning. the clouds, they're going to stay with us for most of the day. you see some breaks in the clouds to the south and southern delaware. better chance of some late-day breaks of sunshine. the showers will try to start up once again. this is at 2:30 in the afternoon. i expect this activity to die down during the day. look at that -- we could see nice sunshine before sun sets evening at -- at 9:00. clouds into allentown and reading. wet weather on the way for tomorrow, too. i'll break it down with the ten day on 10 in ten minutes. >> thank you. 5:08 on this monday.

we'll find out what's happening on 95. >> first alert traffic reporter francesca ruscio is here with a look. and i'm sure we'll look at the areas leading to the shore throughout the morning to see if people are headed to or from? absolutely. so far no delays in south jersey. that's always great news. we're looking at a wet 95 from our gerard avenue camera, either direction doing okay. however, this is southbound for the philadelphia area and jersey shore. little to no traffic now. this is northbound for the suburbs. again, wet road conditions. so if you're going to head to the jersey shore or the delaware beaches, watch for those slick conditions. let's look at 422, route 29 toward the schuylkill expressway. it's going to take you eight minutes. opposite direction doing fine with these travel speeds in the 60s. i'll have another update on those jersey shore roads in the next ten minutes. thanks. more people in our area will be armed with the lifesaving overdose antidote, narcan. coming up, the local troopers who are training to carry that drug. and rest for rocky.

. this morning, we are beginning our shore tour series. . we're heading down the shore for a preview of what's to come this summer. >> matt delucia is live in ocean city. businesses like the rest of us are ready for the warm weather and the crowds, right? >> reporter: they are, vai and katy. and the first half of memorial day weekend was not that bad in terms of weather. right now, it's a little bit of a mist out here at the moment. you see the damp boardwalks behind me here. this one person there running in the distance. and so otherwise, it is pretty empty at the moment. perhaps not for too long. it's been a busy weekend down the shore. the ocean city boardwalk,

definitely the place to be. the unofficial start of the summer season, of course, memorial day weekend. and a number of businesses look at the weekend for the rest of the -- as an indicator for the rest of the summer season. and a lot of seasonal jobs down here. we spoke with frank palmieri at ike's crab cakes. he says this is the time, 100 days to make their living starts right now. >> we've had to start on the 13th for 26th year. we're young on 8th street, but we've been on the boards for a long time. every season's just getting better. >> reporter: i'm joined by my friends the seagulls. i think there are more seagulls here than people this hour. not too bad for 5:15 in the morning. this morning we're checking ocean city. a busy place here. next hour, what's the jersey shore without the sweet treats? it is breakfast time after all. we're checking out one of the breakfast hot spots in town. live on the boardwalk, matt delucia, nbc10 news.

>> all right, a couple of friends out there. today is your last chance to pose with rocky for the next two weeks. the area around the iconic statue at the base of the art museum will be closed for improvements starting tomorrow. the department of parks and rec is replacing paving and improving perimeter protection. meanwhile, next month will mark the next step toward medical marijuana becoming a reality in pennsylvania. >> that's when the state will announce who can grow, process, and dispense the drug. nbc10 was in lancaster county where advocates and doctors discussed details of the process. pennsylvania legalized medical marijuana last year, but it will not be distributed until 2018. state senator andy dinaman supports it saying patients suffering from various illnesses will benefit. >> there is no reason why we should not make this medication available when we know that there are those whose conditions can be assisted.

>> there have been hundreds of applicants sent in, but only 40 across the state will get to grow, process, and dispense the drug for medical purposes. 5:15 on this memorial day. a day that's heavily traveled later this afternoon. this morning -- >> today might be a good time to get out and about to where you're going, right, francesca? i agree with you, absolutely. now would be a great time to drive anywhere. you will have to take your time because the roadways are wet. however, the 42 freeway from the atlantic city expressway looks good so far. little to no traffic. it's still early, 5:16. this is 95 for the philadelphia national airport straight ahead. if you need to head out and catch a flight this morning, now's a great time to do it. we're not going to be running into delays. that's always great news. upper frederick, looking at an accident at perkioomenville and

deep creek road. coming up, we'll look at the rest of the majors in new jersey. >> thank you. >> yeah. go ahead -- i'm one of those people that will later this afternoon if i've got to use a raincoat, i'll use one to go out and grill. hopefully i don't have to. >> yeah. that means you're having a lot of people over? >> a few. yeah. >> because you have to grill. all right. bill henley is here with the first alert forecast, the most create one in your neighborhood. bill, give vai the forecast -- >> he can wear it but only if he wants to make a fashion statement. he won't need it based on the weather. the rain this morning is going to be ending. we still see clouds, as you see, looking past the battleship, new jersey, and temperatures mainly in the 50s. 60 now in delaware. 50s for south jersey, and in philadelphia, clouds are uniform. 60 in manayunk. 58 in chestnut hill. 60 in fox chase and penns port. pretty much in the same territory. we will see the temperatures climb, but not a huge warmup.

for memorial day, we should be close to 80. that's not happening today. 68. you see the gradual warmup that we're in for during the day. mostly cloudy. the rain that's with us this morning has tapered off in delaware and some of the suburbs and into philadelphia. the steady rain that's in burlington county and farther off to the northeast, that will be pushing off to the northeast. so even though we're starting off damp, not going to be rainy all day. and the thunderstorms that have been tracking to the west, those are going to miss us to the north. they'll pass to the north and head into new york later today. heavy downpours, but we will still see some lingering showers at 11:00. less likely in delaware and south jersey, some of the suburbs, into the lehigh valley, seeing rain at 11:00 today. look at how the clouds linger into this afternoon. that's 6:00, 6:15 this evening. we could see late-day breaks in the clouds. it will be dry for most of the afternoon. showers staying farther to the north. overnight tonight, the clouds

return. by tomorrow morning, we've got showers back in the area and a possibility of thunderstorms. and late heading into the evening hours, more showers and possibly thunderstorms moving into the northwest. we're not done with the rainy pattern that we've been in. showers most likely this morning. if you want to wear a raincoat this afternoon, feel free. but it won't be required based on the weather. tomorrow, occasional showers in the morning. a chance of showers and thunderstorms later in the day, 72 degrees the high temperature on tuesday. then 80s with a nice warmup on wednesday. we'll get partly sunny to mostly cloudy skies on wednesday. some late-day showers are possible. not an all-day rain. dry on thursday, 77 with nice sunshine for thursday. the clouds are back on friday. and a chance of showers returns over the weekend. on sunday, before we start

pennsylvania state police are warning residents about a spoofing scam. police say a call appears to come from a number linked to a state police station. the caller tells the person that they are being investigated by the fbi for tax evasion, and that they must make an immediate $8,000 payment. you're urged to never disclose personal information over the phone to an unknown number. and delaware state police will now be equipped with a lifesaving drug. troopers will be given narcan kits to carry with them while on patrol. the drug is used to reverse the effects of opioid overdoses.

state police say troopers will first undergo a narcan training program. pennsylvania state troopers and new jersey state police are already equipped with the drug. a warning for all drivers as the summer driving season nears. this week is national tire safety week. the national highway traffic safety administration is reminding drivers to check your tire pressure at least once a month. having an under inflated tire can lead to an increased risk for flat tires and blowouts. you're also urged to check the tread of your tires. cloudy skies. rain still in the area. 59 degrees at 5:24. we will see some late-day sunshine, just not seeing it right now. we're in and out of the clouds in this live view from the comcast building in center city. rain showers, well, they get less likely later today. but they're their are more chances for rain this week. i've got your neighborhood forecast just ahead. francesca ruscio, she's in the

people in a philadelphia home. investigators are looking for a cause. remembering the fallen. memorial day ceremonies pay tribute to men and women who died fighting for the flag. your memorial day is getting off to a wet start this morning, but things are expected to improve throughout the day. we'll break it down in the first alert forecast coming up. good morning, and welcome to "nbc10 news today." it is nearly 5:30 on the dot. i'm katy zachry. >> i'm vai sikahema. all kind of memorials going on. some inside, some outside. we'll see if the weather matches the plans. meteorologist bill henley with the first alert neighborhood forecast. bill? starting off with steady rain in some areas, especially in new jersey. you see it's trending to the northeast. starting to dry out already in philadelphia. there are just a few moving into burks county and the lehigh valley. these showers will be moving out of the area. clouds will linger for most of the day. you'll need an umbrella right now in reading and kutztown.

allentown, more rainfall before the showers end this morning. 59 now at philadelphia. the suburbs, 55 degrees. 58 degrees in the lehigh valley. delaware at 60. cloudy to start with. mostly cloudy for the day thanks to northeasterly winds that will be blowing at 10:00 this morning. 62 degrees by that hour. it's going to be a slow warmup into the upper 60s this afternoon for philadelphia. middle 60s for the suburbs. 67 while the shore hits 66 with showers this morning. the lehigh valley, showers will linger a little bit longer than the rest of the area. 8:00, still rain. at 11:00 this morning, 59 and rain. it dries out this afternoon. cloudy skies and cool. late-day sunshine. yeah, some neighborhoods will see it, others will stay cloudy. we'll have the hour-by-hour futurecast in ten minutes. first, it's memorial day.
