before the cold front, mild temperatures this morning. 61 now in new jersey. lehigh valley, a few sprinkles in easton. 62 at 7:00. the steadier showers will be moving in at 10:00 this morning. philadelphia, 64. a southwest wind at 15 miles per hour, we'll warm up a bit into the 60s this afternoon. upper 60s for philadelphia and the suburbs. 69 degrees for new jersey and middle 60s for the lehigh valley. one of the first spots to see the rain this morning. delaware will get the rain, too. a pretty good chance of thunderstorms popping up this afternoon. i'll break it down hour by hour with the futurecast, show when you to and the showers in your neighborhood when i'm back in less than ten minutes. first, jessica boyington. >> right. we're watching 95 now moving through langhorn. a disabled vehicle here over into the shoulder. you see on the northbound side and approaching route 1, the traffic is getting by the scene. again, this is northbound. so we see the traffic moving,

slow by the scene. no major backups. definitely something to watch just in case. also watching 95 through delaware. ten-minute trip both directions, northbound and southbound, 295 to 495. just minor delays for mass transit. septa's thorndale train 15 minutes behind. all else on or close to schedule. hearts are heavy around the country and even overseas after more than two dozen people were gunned down inside a texas church. >> 26 people dead, more than a dozen others hurt after gunfire tore through the sanctuary. the shooter took off but was found dead nearby. the massacre happened just before noon yesterday in the town of sutherland springs, about a half hour outside san antonio. we've also learned the church pastor's 14-year-old, annabell pom pomroy, were among those killed. her parents were out of town. witnesses are recounting the shooter's movements.

deadly violence. >> this isn't a guns situation. if someone didn't have a gun shooting in the opposite direction, it would have been much worse. this is a mental health problem at the highest level. >> the president made his comments at a joint news conference with japanese prime minister shinzo abe. he confronted a killer. police say the quick thinking from this good samaritan helped bring down the mass shooter who unleashed horror yesterday. in the next half hour, hear from him for the first time. >> 5:03. new from overnight, a single bullet took the life of a 20-year-old man on catherine street. police tell us around 7:30 last night the gun started shooting. the victim ran to a nearby gas station and collapsed. investigators have not released the victim's name. the gunman is still on the loose.

today a jury that will decide the fate of new jersey governor bob menendez is expected to begin deliberations. menendez is on trial for bribery conspiracy and fraud. prosecutors say he accepted gifts and trips from a florida doctor and friends in exchange for political favors. menendez did not testify during the two-month-long federal trial. but he says he's independent. a guilty verdict could effect the political balance of power since chris christie would get to pick the democrats' replacement. 5:04. former congressman anthony weiner will surrender at a federal prison in massachusetts today. weiner will serve 21 months for sexting with a 15-year-old girl on line. during his sentencing in december, the disgraced politician said he was undergoing therapy and has been a very sick man for a very long time. we're learning that senator rand paul's injuries are worse than first thought after a neighbor assaulted him. renee boucher came into the yard

of paul's home in bowling green, kentucky, friday, and tax emed the snafrt from -- tackled the senator from behind. paul suffered five broken ribs. a neighbor told our affiliate that the men have had ongoing problems. happening today, commutes are about to get more complicated in center city. a busy route to the schuylkill expressway will close for more than a year. matt delucia is live with a look at the construction and what it means to you. >> reporter: this is the stretch of road we're talking about, the southbound lanes of schuylkill avenue. this goes over i-76. the schuylkill expressway here. the northbound lanes here where the cars are affected, southbound, it's going to close at 8:00 tonight. why, penndot is doing rehabilitating in this area. we have rehabilitating the chestnut street bridge. crews are going to be removing the median here and paving schuylkill avenue to start the phase of the project. what does it mean if you drive around 30th street station?

coming down market street, you won't be able to turn right on to schuylkill avenue here. you'll have to watch for detours. keep in mind that parts of chestnut will have lane restrictions, as well. this will be happening for the next 15 months. the closure starts at 8:00. live in university city, matt delucia, nbc10 news. 5:06. the eagles soared to victory against denver. they now have the best record in all of football. >> they were 8-1, giving the crowd plenty to cheer about at the linc. they played denver's number-one-ranked defense. as tracy said -- >> i don't know where they were. they weren't on the field yesterday. >> looked like -- didn't look like number one to tracy it, me, or anyone else. the eagles' offense and defense came up big. for the fans watching the latest eagles' win, it was electrifying.

yesterday, but today you'll likely need the umbrella. rain will be moving in. you won't need the heavy jacket. we're in the 60s now in the lehigh valley. a few light showers being reported right now. suburbs, 61 degrees, delaware, 63. 64 in south jersey. no chilly air to be found this morning. there are cooler neighbors, but not by much. west mt. airy down to 61. graduate hospital is 63. the middle 60s northeast philadelphia. cold front coming in. and this is pushing into the warm, moist air that is here this morning. the shower activity and possibly some thunderstorms, the first shower's this morning. the chance of showers and thunderstorms will wait until this afternoon. leaving the house, it is dry. if you have to get somewhere dry, this is the time to go. showers develop at 8:00 this morning. showers in berks and lancaster county, dry in philadelphia. we will see a few breaks in the clouds, but mostly cloudy today.

not justice to me because my daughter's gone. i'll never get to see my daughter ever again. >> the parents of a girl killed by a hit-and-run driver say there's no chance for closure after a jury reached a mixed verdict in the case. last fall a driver hit and killed 8-year-old jaona powell as she and her brother walked home from school. the driver was convicted of manslaughter and reckless endangerment, but not the most serious charge, vehicular homicide. jaona's parents are heartbroken. >> no prom, no graduation.

i get no grand good kids. i don't see my baby walk down the aisle. y get none of that -- i don't get none of that, but he gets to see his son. >> woodland told the court he did not see the children and tried to stop but it was too late. a judge will sentence him in january. now to the terror in manhattan. today loved ones will attend the funeral of this north jersey man killed in last week's terror attack. darin drake was 32 years old. he was riding on a bike path when a speeding rental truck killed him and seven other people. the truck attack happened on tuesday. police shot the suspect and then arrested him. he faces federal terrorism charges. isis claimed the suspect is one of its soldiers. investigators are working to see if he acted alone. 5:15. warm. we're focusing on the boulevard because there's an accident there. >> we'll get another look. jessica, give us an update. >> right.

the northbound side of the boulevard now. cameras at 89th street. -- at 9th street. you can see to the center median. it looks like a few things going on here. you can definitely see some police activity there. maybe a few vehicles that are involved. it's, again, difficult to see. what's important for you and drivers heading out the door, is traffic is getting by. for now, yes. it looks like traffic getting by the scene. everybody scooting to the right-hand side. two right lanes are open there. on the northbound side, southbound looks fine for now. earlier there was debris, but it hasn't affected the drive time. 11 minutes from the blue route to the vine. speeds into the 60s, as well. i'll end in cherry hill. route 70 at kings highway. no big problems or delays here. everything's moving along. roads look dry and empty. i'll have updates on the

boulevard when i come back. >> thanks. there's a camera off that we can look at that has the flag of the aramark building. blowing pretty good there. >> yes, bill says it's a warm breeze. in the 60s now. tell us more. >> for everyone. you'll feel that and wilmington. it was cloudy yesterday. today, we're going to see some rain and possibly some thunderstorms. this is one of the areas that could see the thunderstorms. the winds that vai mentioned, look at that, 14 mile-per-hour an hour breeze in wilmington. up to 10 and 12 mile-per-hour winds in the philadelphia area and allentown. those winds will stay with us as the clouds take over and bring us rain. already keeping temperatures warm this morning. 60s through the lehigh valley is on south jersey and the shore. in delaware, temperatures will cool a little bit more, but not much. certainly not chilly. talliville, greenville, limestone road, reporting 61 degrees right now. the temperatures will climb a bit. not a huge warmup today.

clouds. still with us left over from yesterday. this time the clouds are going to bring rain. it's not happening now. right in philadelphia and wilmington. i'm say seeing the showers in central pennsylvania, heavier downpours farther to southwest moving through west virginia and southwestern pennsylvania. this is going to be here this afternoon. it will give us a chance of thunderstorms. but if you're leaving now, leaving the house dry. a few sprinkles being reported in the lehigh valley. the steadier rain not due in until this afternoon. 61 in the suburbs. 64 in philadelphia. and 63 in delaware. delaware one of the spots that could see thunderstorms this afternoon. it will be dry at 7:00. cloudy skies at 10:00. 65 degrees and climbing. not going to see a huge warmup today because of the rain that's moving in. and the chance of thunderstorms for this afternoon. that will keep temperatures across the board in the 60s for today. one exception will be the jersey shore, low 70s.
