now on "nbc 10 news today," taking flight after their final practice under philly, the eagles will be taking off for super bowl lii in minneapolis. the super bowl experience, fans are being entertained in many ways. we caught up with vikings fans still hurting from their team's loss to our birds. we have a team of reporters on their way to the big game, including nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is on the road to minneapolis as we speak. we'll catch up with him as he begins the second leg of his journey this morning. good morning, welcome to "nbc 10 news today," i'm dray clark. it's 5:30 on this sunday

morning. we're off to a wet start this morning. let's get to the weather with meteorologist krystal klei and the most accurate forecast in town. >> good morning, dray. this is a very different picture than yesterday when we saw the sun. today, it's a rainy forecast. all that green. a big front that's passing the area. it's going to be slow to pass. which means as rain lingers through a good part of our day. let's look a little closer here. you'll see pretty much everyone is getting some type of rain. some of us are getting heavier rain than others. the best is more of a steady rain. you see this and another line of heavier to steadier rain passing through. this is mostly a light to steady rain falling. it's going to continue like that as we go throughout your morning hours and into your afternoon hours for some of our neighborhoods. take a look at the temperatures. they're very mild. yesterday, we saw the air flowing in from the southwest. once this front pass, you can

see that colder air filtering in. this is going to be the last day of the 50s that we're talking about. we are there right now. 51 in philadelphia. 52 in millville. bluebell, coatsville and in perk see. this is a mild start. these temperatures are pretty much going to stick where they currently are. rest of the day. look at the temperature trend here. we wobble around the 50-degree mark through 4:00 and then we start to cool as we go through this evening. that's because of the natural cooling of your morning and then keepings cool with that rain in the afternoon. coming up in a few minutes, we'll talk about what to expect neighborhood by neighborhood. the timing of that rain and when it gets out of here. we are counting down to super bowl lii. eagles mania is spreading across our area on the way to super bowl lii in minneapolis. we're one week away from the eagles taking on the new england

patriots in a rematch 13 years in the making. nbc 10 is your official station for the eagles with coverage of the birds. the eagles make their nest. andrei is there. this is where the road to the super bowl begins for the birds. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, dray. absolutely. right now the nova care center is dark. kind of the calm before the flurry of activity. in just a few hours, the team will head on a bus and prepares to head to minneapolis. last night we caught up with a few players out taking the opportunity to meet some excited fans. we had a crew at the cherry hill mall. the line stretched through the mall to meet jalen mills. he took pictures and signed autographs with fans. some kids even sported his signature green hair to show their support. >> his style on the field and

off. his physical style, his swagger, it's just great. >> reporter: today is all business for the team as they prepare to play. it's arguably the biggest game of their careers. reporting live in south philly, andrea cline thomas. nbc 10 news. yesterday they got their thrills riding a zip line and taking in the super bowl live fan festival downtown minneapolis. nbc 10's ran into vikings fans still upset about how the fans treated them at the linc last week. >> there was a lot of weird fans. a lot of trash talk that i don't like. the -- and some of that stuff. minnesota doesn't want to do that. >> there's bad fans in minnesota like there's bad fans everywhere. >> tim furlong helped the

vikings fans move on in a sense giving them a friendly philadelphia hug. on the road to minneapolis is powered by nrg. tp powers the eagles, powers philly and powers you. nbc 10 is on road to minneapolis for the super bowl. randy gyllenhaal left philadelphia yesterday morning. he spent the night in pittsburgh and now headed to chicago and on to minneapolis. he's live in storm force 10. you're just about to leave pittsburgh. tell us about your experience so far. >> reporter: good morning, dray. we are on the road again. we just left pittsburgh. we said goodbye to the skyline as they drove by heinz field. we're going to ohio, indiana and into chicago. let me give you a look at interstate 279 up to interstate 80 get through ohio. we passed through the commonwealth of pennsylvania and we talked to eagles fans in the eastern part of the state and

steelers fans in the western part of the state. a bit tougher for the steelers fans because they say anybody but brady to win the super bowl. going into ohio, maybe grab cleveland browns fans as we make our way into the midwest. by monday morning, we'll arrive in minneapolis on the ground after a 17-hour-plus road trip that takes us through six states and countless football fans. dray. >> randy, we'll check in with you later this morning. thanks a lot. there's only station where you can watch the eagles play in super bowl lii. it's right here on nbc 10 from pre became to kickoff. it's the only station with complete coverage. the time now 5:36. new overnight, a deadly stabbing forced temple university to send out an alert to students. it happened along grad street close enough to campus that they rushed him to the hospital where he died. the victim is not a student. he was with a group of people walking from a bar where a fight

broke out. investigators haven't said if it had anything do with the fatal stabbing. philadelphia officials are urging people to be on high alert after a drexel university student say she was assaulted. it happened in university city at an off campus party. she reported a drunken man opening the apartment through an unlocked door. the special victims unit is investigating. in the spotlight, president trump is preparing to deliver his very first state of the union address. what senior officials say his theme and focus will be. ahead in our next half hour, art for healing. we'll take you to a rehab center that's helping patients with artwork that covers its calls. walls. energize the fans is powered by nrg. nrg powers the eagles, powers philly and powers you.

welcome back. first alert meteorologist krystal klei here. winds are at about 10 to 15 miles an hour. i want to show you a cold front we're tracking. look at the difference between wind directions from areas like allentown and wilmington now where it's more of a west and northwest push, versus dover, millville and atlantic city where the winds are coming in from the southwest. that is the difference of the fronts coming in and the two air masses meeting. look at radar, satellite here. you can tell where the front lies, the winds are starting to shift our direction. we've got a good bit of rain. the problem is this front will take a while to push through. so, like a rainy day in terms of how long we all see rain. we could see good totals, half an inch to an inch as you get farther to the south. take a look at the model. through 8:00 a.m. this morning, the rain may slowly exit the

lehigh valley between 8:00 a.m. and noon. this is slower than what we thought yesterday. the front is moving a little slower. there's noon to 2:00, pulling out of the suburbs, rushing up the i-95 corridor. look at the temperatures. they don't budge from where they are currently this morning. as we go from 2:00 to 4:00, the rain is starting to exit to south jersey, northern half of delaware. the rain may brush up against the southern part of delaware tonight. once it clears and the winds shifting from the northeast, temperatures begin to fall on your monday. we'll talk about your workweek coming up. thank you, krystal. the jewish federation hopes to raise a million dollar fundraising goal. the south jersey chapter will reach out for donors in camden, burlington and gloucester counties. they call the launch super sunday marking the beginning of super week.

♪ ♪ that's one way to draw applause in philadelphia. the philadelphia orchestra performed the eagles fight song last night at the academy of music. comedian steve martin was there and performed as part of the academy's 151st anniversary concert and ball. good morning, first alert meteorologist krystal klei here. we're starting with a live camera view. this is our campus cam looking down broad street. pretty active camera. you see cars on the roads and those are shiny, wet roads we have across aum of our neighborhoods. we've had rain throughout the night and we'll continue with the rain a good bit of today. here's what's happening. remember yesterday i said the mild air would move in.

we felt pretty nice yesterday afternoon. we felt mild right now. the sliver of air much smaller than yesterday. that's because the much colder air behind the cold front is going to try to slope in today. we talk about two air masses hit. you get that nice amount of rain on us. we are going to be cooler by tomorrow. but today we're going to stick with rain and mild conditions. here are the neighborhood cams, we're looking at the philadelphia neighborhood. i'm matching the board. mild temps in the green. 52 for society hill and port richmond. 51 at graduate hospital and the airport reading at 50 degrees. the numbers are barely going to move at all throughout the rest of today. typically, we would rise into the afternoon. that's when we see our highs. not so much today because of the rain and cloud coverage. look at the rain and satellite. there's deeper green and a pocket over dover, heavier rain. this is going to be light to

steady at best throughout the day. the rain is going to linger, especially through the morning hours across the region. there's the neighborhood planner. subtle differences in the neighborhoods. in philadelphia, right near the low 50s consist at the present timely through 3:00 this afternoon. but from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00, things will thin. you may even see a peek of sunshine. by 3:00, most of the rain should have come to an end and it will come to an end by noontime in the lehigh valley and burke. it's a morning event and afternoon event for philly and northwest. again, temperatures are very stable here. right in the upper 40s to low 50s throughout our entire afternoon. so you're not going to see a fluctuation in temps today because the cold front will struggle to pass by. as for amounts of rain, this is through early tomorrow morning. rain may linger against the shore into overnight.

look at the amounts. maybe a third of an inch in the north and west furthest point. closer to an inch in areas farther south because the rain will last longer. going into the workweek, monday looks to stay dry. an isolated light rain shower for the most part. in the morning hours tuesday, may see light snow north and west neighborhoods. into the afternoon hours, that light snow may start to spread farther south. the afternoon commute could see a few flakes falling on your tuesday. >> thank you, krystal. many nonprofits in philadelphia are doing innovative work to make a difference in our community. they want to get a boost to meet goals from a new program taking applications right now. nbc 10 and telemundo 62 are partnering with the nbcuniversal foundation to support project innovation. it's giving away $225,000 in grant money. the deadline to apply is next

in minneapolis will make this experience somehow more real. >> right now, we're just anxious, man, really to go ahead and continue to prepare and get ready for this game. but definitely, when we get out there, it's going to feel like oh, it's real now. >> i think when that moment comes, it will really be, once you're at the field. at the same time, also when you step on that plane, i think everybody is going to get in that mind-set, okay, we're here. >> as for the eagles empire, rob gronkowski participated at least in a portion of practice that media was allowed to see. he still hasn't cleared the concussion protocol. tom brady practiced minus the glove. and then he talked about heading to his 8th super bowl. >> i've never taken anything like this for granted. it's lot of hard work to get here. being a part of a couple losses, those are tough to swallow.

you realize how much effort you have to put in to prepare. it's a very unique environment, unique game. you have to be at your best. in order do that, you have to prepare as well as you possibly can. the only fly in the -- is at the all-star game at tampa. last night was the skills competition. have a look at this. a cool new event. jrue took part in the passing challenge. he finished sixth in this challenge. the blues alex pietrangelo -- be sure to catch it on nbc 10. jim salisbury confirmed that the phillies signed francis row rodriguez. he had an e.r.a. close to 8.0 last season, five runs above his lifetime e.r.a. sixers in oklahoma city. joel embiid will play today. they play in milwaukee tomorrow.
