today as we count down to super bowl lii. coming up short. the final figures for the first year of philadelphia's soda tax are in. it appears the city is shy of its goal. tracking rain. expect a cloudy, wet sunday and possible snow in the week ahead. we're keeping tabs on all of it in the first alert neighborhood forecast. good morning. welcome to "nbc 10 news today." i'm dray clark. yes we're to have a wet start. let's get to the nbc 10 first alert neighborhood weather with meteorologist krystal klei in her most accurate forecast in town. krystal. >> dray, the good news is, because we're starting around 50 and sticking around 50, don't have to worry about snow or icy roadways today. if you plan to go outside, make sure you have the rain boots and the umbrella on hand. look at this long line of green stretching from boston as far as

the board shows here. what's happening, there's a frontal system that's passing through. once the cold front passes, we'll dry out and get colder. until then, it will take a while. we'll get the rainy conditions. a tighter view shows us that for the most part, this is a light to steady rain. not a lot of us seeing anything heavy. we've got this pocket of heavier rain falling over the bay in between parts of kent and cumberland counties. this is going to roll on through, bridgeton, millville may get action with a brief period of heavier rain. nothing much to write home about. this is going to be a light, steady rain throughout the day. use the windshield wipers and you'll be good to go. temperaturewise, 50 in philadelphia. 49 in wilmington and 51 in mt. holly. the numbers far warmer than average even for a high temperature, but especially for a morning start time. they're not going to move much through the day. we're going to stick where we are pretty much. rain will continue throughout the morning and into the early afternoon. notice, still at 50 at

lunchtime. winds not a big issue. around 5 to 10 miles per hour. the winds are going to shift southwest to more of a north push as we go through the day. that's going to start cooling us down tomorrow. we'll talk more about that coming up. this is what the eagles and patriots will play for next sunday. the vince lombardi super bowl trove a arrived in minneapolis yed by fedex truck. fans happily took pictures with the trophy, which will be on display all week. the eagles will be arriving in minneapolis later on today. andrea cline-thomas is at one of the places they call the nest. the nova care center. when will the birds take off this morning? >> they'll be taking off this

afternoon around 12:30. dray, it is getting real out here. the players are going to gather here and head out as a team on the road to victory. last night, some players spent their last day signing autographs and meeting fans. we had a crew at dick's sporting goods store at the mall. fans signed the rally ball. got their faces painted. they waited in very long lines to get nelson agholor's autograph. >> we got here early this morning to get your wristbands. we can't wait to meet him. >> it's more exciting. you're going to have an autograph of people in the super bowl. >> reporter: now, might be down to business for the team, but celebration continues here in the city. if you missed some of the signings, you can meet former eagles players this week. reporting live in south philly, andrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news.

yesterday we were driving across the commonwealth talking to eagles fans, as well as some eagles fans who live in the steel city of pittsburgh. we caught up with ally. she reached out to us and said it's not easy being an eagles fan in the heart of steelers country. >> it's hard. there's steelers fans everywhere. you're singled out as an eagles fans. you got to do what you got to do. i'm from philly. i want to represent philly when i'm here. >> reporter: all right. good for her. she tells me she's headed back to the philadelphia area for the super bowl. she's going to watch the game with her family up in redding. she doesn't want to be in pittsburgh when the eagles win it all. coming up next, we'll hopefully get into ohio in the next hour or so. drive through the state of ohio, indiana and eventually chicago. live in storm force 10, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. thank you, randy. nbc 10 is the only station where you can watch the eagles play in

super bowl lii. ten of our anchors and reporters will be in minneapolis covering the super bowl all week long leading up to the big game. exclusive coverage you can only find here on nbc 10. the official station of your philadelphia eagles. in other news this morning, revenue from philadelphia's soda tax may have fallen short. however, the city says it didn't fall flat. with revenues from the final month of 2017 in the books, the city raked in $6.5 million. however, the entire year was $13 million short of the projected $92 million goal. the city says there was plenty of good that came from the funds, though. the tax created 2,000 pre-k seats plus it funded the rebuild program which helps to improve lie prairies, rec centers and parks. in day two of the philadelphia auto show at the pennsylvania convention center. whether you're into hot rods or the latest in luxury, the annual auto show is the place to see all of them.

. the headline today, rain. periods of light to steadier rain is what we're expecting. nothing too major. but we have a flood watch in place. you can see this is through areas like northampton county and farther north and to the east. this includes easton and up into lehigh. these areas under a flood watch not because of the massive amount of rain but because along the delaware river and where ice is still setting. you can see with the rain and the mild temperatures in place, some of the ice jams occur. not that it's occurring yet, but be prepared. let's look at the lehigh valley. this is one of the areas where it will be first. through noontime i believe. it's 45 right now.

a dip in the morning hours, slight pickup in the afternoon. we could see a peek of sunshine in the afternoon with temperatures right in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. for philadelphia, we are at 50. it's raining right now. you can see the water on our camera here. we will stay with rain through lunchtime. past lunch, around 2:00 or so, that's when the rain will come to a close. we will only hit the low 50s. we'll wrap up with new jersey where the rain showers may last a little longer into the afternoon. again, temperatures stick around 50. eagl-a-g-l-e-se-a-g-l-e-s! hopefully the fans are equally as hyped for the birds in minneapolis. this group gave a sendoff to eagles safety mcloud. >> he stopped by and talked to fans. the battleship new jersey

coming up on 6:15 this morning. flooding in paris is approaching record levels as rising waters from weeks of heavy rain threatens more of the french capital. parisians are on alert as the seine river is flooding. the lower floor of the louvre museum is sealed off with emergency plans in place for the mona lisa and venus did he milo.

one family had to walk on planks to actually get anywhere. >> we had one -- >> that's bad. it rains every day. >> there are reports of water seeping into basements on the banks of the seine where more rain is on the way. as a volcano continues to spew lava and ash over the central philippines, heavy rains sent raging mud flows through streets of several towns yesterday. evacuees who hadn't already fled because of the volcano are crowded into temporary shelters right now. the volcano alert level is at 4, which means it's as -- the highest you go is 5. the level 4 means a hazardous eruption is imminent. a stealth attack in afghanistan. the sueside bomber used an ambulance to sneak through

kabul. he blew the explosives inside the truck at a second checkpoint. it was targeting a heavily -- the financial chief of the republican national committee is out of a job apparently because of a sexual harassment scandal. casino mogul steve wynn resigned yesterday. he led the rnc fundraising efforts during president trump's first year in office, helping the committee raise more than $130 million. wynn quit just one day after the "wall street journal" reported a number of women said he sexually the report says one case led to a nearly $8 million settlement. wynn has denied the allegations. a special prosecutor will now investigate how the gymnast sexually assault more than 100 girls for decades while he state. michigan state university says it asked for the special investigation into dr. larry nassar's wanton behavior and

they will cooperate. michigan's attorney general made the announcement yesterday. >> these are young girls who were robbed of their innocence in the most tender of years. >> who at michigan state knew or was aware of what he was doing because they had been told by some of these victims. >> michigan state's president and athletic director resigned after more than 100 women testified at nassar's trial. some members of the usa gymnastics board have also resigned. they say their resignations come forth next week. now for your first alert weather. >> meteorologist krystal klei here. let's talk about the temperatures to start. it's a really mild start to the morning again. like yesterday, we've got 50. 50 in philadelphia, 52 in south jersey and 45 in the lehigh valley. at the jersey shore, temperature reading up to 54 degrees. let's drop into some of the neighborhood temps. you can see it's a little cooler

north and west. fleetwood at 46. allay at 44. macungie, 44 degrees. the wind shifting through today. everywhere is going to start to cool down in this mild conditions that we've been experiencing. but for now, 50s in our new jersey neighborhoods. washington township, you're at 50. pitman at 51. cherry hill, florence all at 51 degrees as well. not a bad start. but here's the problem. you step out the door, you need the rain boots and the umbrella. this is not just a hey, if you wait a couple of hours and it will be out of here kind of thing. no. this is a most of the day kind of thing. mostly a light to steady rain falling. you see the pockets of yellow, cumberland county into atlantic county, that's steadier rain. i don't think it's a major concern. it's spread out through the whole day. we're not going to have a flash flood event.

the i-95 corridor, possibly further south. let's time out when it starts to exit the region. through noontime and now it approximately us out of the lehigh valley. winds are just starting to shift. wind from the north, whereas more of a wind from the south this way. philly, trenton, wilmington, 2:00, 3:00 p.m. pretty quickly out of south jersey and delaware as well. it will linger 4:00 into the night against the jersey shore and southern delaware. that's 7 kplon :30 in the eveni. temperatures still mild. they fall overnight. by monday morning the commute is dry but cold again back into the 30s. now the long-term model. it shows that monday looks pretty dry. some clouds, some sun and isolated light rain shower is possible. look as we get into tuesday morning, though. light snow possible north and west neighborhoods. as we get into the afternoon, this particular model starts to

spread through philly. into the evening commute, light snow possible over south jersey and delaware. a lot have been wishy-washy. there is potential that the timing could change. let's switch gears and talk about the seven-day forecast. if you're headed to minneapolis, here's the travel weather. snow tuesday, wednesday. this is not major. this is more of a passing system. temperatures up to 34 wednesday. the cooldown then hits. teens for temperatures into the weekend. that includes super bowl sunday starting at only 5 degrees. kickoff time, it will be close to that as well. thank you, krystal. the largest art show put on by painters with disabilities is on display in our area. you won't find them in a gallery or museum. you can see them at a hospital. katy zachry shows us how it's inspiring and also healing. >> it's one of the first things

in new jersey, a town says since drivers can't textnd drive, pedestrians should be as courteous. a committee woman said there would be fines and they would be minimal and police would use discretion before actually issuing the ticket for the violation. the cartoonist who made beetle bailey, has died. he tickled people with the navy army private. he started drawing at age 11. he also drew high and lowest. he died at his home in connecticut. he was 94 years old. trending on social media this morning, the opening sketch on "saturday night live" with guest host will ferrell playing former president george w. bush. take a look.

news today," taking flight after their final practice in south philly yesterday, the eagles will be taking off for super bowl lii in minneapolis. the super bowl experience, fans already in minneapolis are being entertained in many ways. we caught up with vikings fans still hurting from their team's loss to our birds. and we have a team of reporters and anchors on their way to the big game including nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal on the road to minneapolis and we'll catch up with him live as he continues the second leg of his journey this morning.

good morning. i'm dray clark. welcome back to "nbc 10 news today." it's now 6:30 on this sunday morning. a wet and mild morning it is. let's get over to first alert meteorologist krystal klei with a look at the forecast. >> good morning everyone. happy sunday. not quite as happy as yesterday. yesterday, so many people were out and about. today, you're probably going to want to stay indoors. we've got a lot of rain across the region. look at this stretch from boston through west virginia and all the way into tennessee. it keeps extending off the map here. what we're looking at is a front. a cold front moving throughout this region. it's slow to move, though. it's going to continue with the rain that we started overnight. you can see, it's not terribly heavy anywhere. it's mostly a light to steady rain at best. a pocket of there farther south. that's about as good as it gets. i don't have major concerns about flash flooding or anything in that sort of mix. but you are going to deal with a

good bit of rain in the morning and the afternoon if you're in the southern half of our viewing zone. right now, at 45 in bluebell. 49 in wilmington and 52 in millville. atlantic city at 52. philly is right at 50. temperatures are actually very mild. they're going to stay this way throughout the day. in fact, they don't rea look at this. 12-hour forecast. perfectly straight line almost. that's because today the front will struggle to pass through. we cool down during your workweek. we pick up, then we cool down. we'll talk about the roller coaster temps throughout the next ten days coming up. we are counting down to super bowl lii. eagles mania is spreading here across the area on the road and all the way to the home of super bowl lii in minneapolis. we're a week away from the eagles taking on the new england patriots in a rematch 13 years in the making. nbc 10 is your official eagles

station with coverage of the birds like none other. nbc 10's and -- aundrea cline-thomas is at the novacare center. this is where the road to the super bowl begins for the birds. >> reporter: that's right, dray. the countdown is on. we've seen a few people coming into the novacare complex this morning. as the players arrive and the team gets ready to head to minneapolis. last night we were there as some players took an opportunity to meet excited fans. we had a crew at the cherry hill mall. the line stretched through the mall through the sports cave. jalen mills took pictures and signed autographs. some kids even sported his green hair to show support. >> ready to head out there? >> his style on the field and off, his physical style, his swagger, it's just great. >> reporter: last night all fun.

nrg powers the eagles, powers philly and powers you. nbc 10 minneapolis for the super bowl. our randy gyllenhaal left philadelphia yesterday morning. he spent the night in pittsburgh. now he's headed to chicago. and then o randy is live in storm force 10 this morning. randy, you'll be covering a lot of ground across the midwest today. any plans to stop in chicago and talk to fans? >> reporter: yeah, we will be in chicago eventually. i'll show you how far that's going to take us. 6 hours and 8 min. about 410 miles to get to chicago. right now we're finally in ohio after a really long journey through pennsylvania. obviously the largest state we had to drive through. we talked to steelers fans in pittsburgh, eagles fans across the commonwealth and right now we're finally in ohio. ohio, for anyone that doesn't know has some of the best rest stops in the entire country. i used to do this drive between chicago and philadelphia growing up. there are tons of the best rest stops in ohio.

tim furlong in minneapolis much. new overnight, astabbing fo university to send out an alert to students. it happened along grad street. the man was rushed to the hospital and he died. he is not a temple student. he was with a group of people walking from a bar where a fight had broken out. however, investigators haven't said if that had anything to do with the fatal stabbing. philadelphia officials are urging people to be on alert after a drexel university student reported that someone sexually assaulted her. it happened yesterday morning at the off campus apartment in university city. they say she reported a drunken man entering the apartment through an unlocked door. the special victims unit is now investigating. state of the union. president trump is preparing his big address for congress this week with senior officials -- what they say the theme and focus will be. plus this --

meteorologist krystal klei here. let's talk about the headlines through the next few days. today, pretty obvious. mild and wet forecast. we're tracking the rainy conditions, not just for the next few hours. it's going to extend through much of your day. you snag the umbrella before you head outside today. going to be cooling down. this isn't the cold front

triggering the rain. once it passes, we know what happens next. temperatures fall for a few days. ups and downs over the ten-day forecast. we have light snow in the forecast come your tuesday. we'll run through that in a bit. here's a look at the current wind speeds. we're watching the winds. while not terribly strong, 10 to 15 miles per hour. they're showing us. we have not had that frontal passage yet. the winds will shift to more of a north pole once the front has passed. it's going to take some time because the front is slow to pass around the region. look where the front is sitting currently. it's going to slowly chug along across the area. that will drive in the drier but colder air. it's not going t today. it's going to be more so tomorrow that we start to feel the effects of behind that front. in the lehigh right now. the timing of rain coming to an end. notice temperatures stay in the upper 40e

president trump will spend today preparing for his state of the union address scheduled for tuesday night. a senior administration official tells nbc 10 the theme of the president's speech will be building a safe, strong and proud america. the official says mr. trump will speak from the heart about policy accomplishments. the president is expected to touch on key points such as jobs and the economy. immigration reform and infrastructure funding. he'll deliver his speech in the rowsia investigation. moderator chuck todd and his guests will tackle the latest on the russia probe. meet the press crnin at a spec 9:00 right here on nbc 10. wall street is looking ahead to the president's state of the union address. cnbc's tyler matt i son has a preview. >> counting the jobs, a ton of earnings and the state of the union in the week ahead. it's an a-list of earnings reports. literally, apple, amazon,

air masses hitting each other, we're going to stick with the rain through much of today. here's our philadelphia neighborhood temps. we dove in deep here down to neighborhood level. 48 in men i can't. parkside@49 and 52. radar and satellite, there's the rain i was talking about. like i mentioned, it's a little line on top of us. it's a light rain lehigh valley. steadier into parts of upper montgomery, chester county and then again a little pocket of heavier rain down into atlantic county. none of this is heavy enough that i'm worried about flash flooding or staorm damage. this is going to be an annoyance rain. the model, the temperatures are overlaid. lunchtime, the rain will pull out of upper bucks county, lehigh valley and berk. 2:00 o to 3:00 p.m., it pulls out of the corridor. trenton, philadelphia,
