hoist the lombardi trophy. and at the olympics, why she has no regrets following a rough day of competition. >> announcer: nbc10 news starts now. >> a lot of stories to make you smile out there today. >> got a lot to cover. >> good morning, this is nbc10 news. i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm vai sikahema. let's get to meteorologist bill henley with the most accurate forecast in town. bill? >> vai, it's much colder this morning than yesterday. we're running 20 to 35 degrees colder this morning which means we're back to february. for philadelphia, 29 degrees is a cold start made colder feeling by the wind out of the north at 12 miles an hour. the wind will die down. once the sun is up, that's going to make the difference. we'll warm into the low 30s at 10:00 and make it to the low 40s in the afternoon for just about everyone. even at the shore, plenty of shine. 38 degrees the high there,

though. i'll break it down hour by hour to show you how quickly the temperatures warm in your fabd, but first, jessica boyington is watching the traffic. >> we're starting on the schuylkill expressway for the cameras around the vine street expressway, once you get past the vine area here, you'll see a lane blocked but both directions are still open. we're not seeing closures. here at 422, drive times look okay. the eastbound sign, eight-minute trip. eastbound ramp from 422, an ongoing construction and right now it's blocked at route 23. vai and tracy, back to you. the wait for love is on the silver. the iconic sculpture is returning to love park just in time for valentine's day. before it gets put into place it will be paraded through the city starting at 25th street and pennsylvania avenue at 10:00 this morning. they're going to make six stops, including the logan square

before alirriving at love park. katy zachry joins us live from love park. >> reporter: we talked to people yesterday, they say as they walked through this iconic center city park, they've been missing the statue. the sculpture. they say things just afternoon the same with the sculpture not on the stand. something else about the sculpture is the pedestal that it will be sitting on. take a look at some video of about a year ago, when the sculpture was removed from here. you'll see the colors, the red, green and blue. well, one thing that's new and improved when it returns, the color blue that used to be on one side of the letters will be purple. the original colors were red, green and purple. until the purple became blue over time with wear. so, it's been restored to more of its original. the sculpture has been cleaned

new this morning, for the first time since winning the super bowl, eagles quarterback nick foles is talk about his future with the team. the super bowl mvp will appear on the ellen show to discuss what the victory has meant to him. >> nbc10's matt delucia join us at the linc. fans are wondering what's next for nick foles? >> reporter: right. well, he is still under contract with the eagles, unless he is traded nick foles will be in eagles green next season. but from a personal standpoint, he is still enjoying the moment. this whole first sitdown interview since the big game. he brought up you the lombardi trophy and talked to ellen about the philly special trip and about how he almost retired and how his fast failures made him appreciate his success. and ellen did her best to find out what's next for nick? >> what's next for you? what are you going to do? are you going to re-sign, stay with the eagles, what's

where's mom? we finally redid our bedroom and she's prettttttttttty into it. what's your dream? at ikea, we help you live it. make the dream yours. good morning, everyone, jessica boyington with you right now, checking on the roads and watching new jersey. this is route 70 at kings highway. you can see flashing lights. that's emergency construction. that's in place yesterday late morning, almost in the afternoon when this started to come up as well. we're not really seeing any problems on the roads east and westbound. at cherry hill you might see some slow spots as you pass that point. from the northbound side, 55 to walt whitman bridge. speeds up in the high 50s. once you get there, you'll be fine. the bridges are fine, tacony-palmyra and the ben franklin, clear.

and that's clear, so i'll have updates for the rest of the morning, of course. i'll be back with a check of the roads and the boulevard. >> announcer: now, your nbc10 "first alert" weather. >> i'm meteorologist bill henley. 19 before 5:00. look what we have, cold winds blowing this morning. that's a steady wind out of the northwest that makes it feel like many neighborhoods are in the teens. 19 right now in philadelphia. feels like temperature in allentown. we're looking at low 20s in south jersey and delaware, so bundle up if you're heading out the door. but plan on grabbing your sunglasses. we'll see a lot of sunshine and into the 40s for philadelphia. the suburb, 27 degrees right now, the wind out of the northwest will become more easterly during the day. the temperatures climb in the upper 30s with lots of sunshine. how about the lehigh valley? 25 degrees right now with the wind at 10 miles an hour. by lunchtime, 35 degrees, and then up to 40 degrees which happens to be completely dry.

winds just 3 miles an hour. it's breezy and chilly as it is right now, it will be improving during the day. south jersey into the upper 30s by 2:00. and the winds backing off here. the winds will be steady at the shore. look what that does with the temperatures. these easterly winds or northeasterly winds will get sunshine, just upper 30s for the afternoon. so the shore will be the cold spot today. delaware, define degrees, warming above freezing at lunchtime. near 40 degrees with winds staying below 10 miles an hour today. good news is warmer weather to come. the weekend forecast has temperatures in the 40s and low 30s. and temperatures go higher on sunday. and we'll likely get warmer weather before we get to the weekend. a look at the 10-day in ten. lacking for a comeback. a pennsylvania athlete trying to make her dream come true at the

the second round of women's luge gets under way shortly at the 20 olympics and summer britchard has some ground to make up. >> a chance to speak to summer after the first round of competition. keith, a little bit of a mixed bag for her, right? >> reporter: yeah, got a little bit of good and a little bit of bad. i'd be remiss if i didn't show you the crowds here which are exceptional, because we're dealing with a mild night relatively here in south korea. feels about 30 degrees. you look at the crowds, welcome news, 30 degrees. everyone is out and about enjoying things. we're talking about summer britcher, though, her first one, yeah, it was rough, nearly knocked her out of contention. her second run actually set a new track record.

she's in ninth place. she jumped right over to our camera, happy as can be, summer told us, she has no regrets. >> i give myself about five minutes to pity myself and think it was all over. and i said you know what, the race isn't over. there's three more runs. three more chances to go out there and show what i can do. and i talked to my coaches and decided to pass that second run. i needed luge. we were going 80 miles per hour in an ice track. i'm going to take the same approach and stay for two more good runs. >> reporter: she's got two more runs to go. we're going to know in a few hours if she's going to achieve her olympic medal dreams, something that he's been working for at least the past ten years, vai, tracy, back to you. >> talk about a great attitude. you know who else has a great attitude, her competitor jamie

anderson. everyone is saying the wind conditions are so dangerous. it's not like what we already do isn't dangerous. you got to meet her, right? >> reporter: yeah, she won slopestyle in the morning yesterday in south korea. has the grace of her life. wins gold. she's got to do a round of interviews over several hours. she's got to earn that medal. and then also on the podium. and then she's here at the "today" show. that's where i got to talk to her. and you would have thought she never competed that day. she has such a great attitude. she did a great job on the "today" show, too. so it was really a pleasure for me to meet jamie, for sure. by the way, the "today" show set i sit down with hoda and savannah coming up later on "nbc 10 news today." vai, tracy, back to you. >> by the way, tracy and i spent a week in minnesota, central time, an hour behind. it's like quarter to 7:00 p.m.,

we won't be in for cold, it will be a chilly evening. the temperatures should stay above freezing. 20s for the lee 00 high valley and the suburbs. just below the freezing mark in south jersey and delaware, too. in philadelphia, usually the wind that's blowing keeps the temperatures within a few degrees 6 each other and that's what we're seeing this morning but richmond is 31 degrees, summerton, it's 27. so, we're all pretty much in the same territory to start with. we'll all see sunshine, look at the warmup, mid-40s by 10:00. and then into the low 40s. this is what a typical day in february looks like, low 40s in the afternoon and a bit of a breeze to make it feel like upper 30s. it will be dry. there are no clouds on the raid czar to sh raidar to show you. and out of the picture until later in the week. which means we're in for a dry stretch and warming trend that

starts this afternoon. 43 degrees, but look at tomorrow, as we drop to the 30s overnight tonight, 54 degrees tomorrow afternoon. it looks like there's a chance for showers on thursday, after a dry valentine's day on wednesday. but a better chance of steadier rain comes in on friday. the weekend will be dry. it will be chillier, saturday up to 40 degrees. a little warmer on sunday. another round of rain coming in monday with lingering clouds tuesday and wednesday. there's a chance we'll see showers on these days. but look at those temperatures, 60s for next week, for tuesday, wednesday, and finally see sunshine on thursday. a bit cooler. but still warm for this time of year, a high of 53 degrees. >> thank you, bill. nine minutes before 5:00 a.m. on this tuesday. let's get a check of route 1 and the boulevard. >> jessica boyington has us covered with that. what are you seeing, jessica? >> just with the cameras, actually not sees much. good thing for this time of morning. right now, north and southbound

sides not really moving along too bad. the roads are dry. not seeing any construction there but the schuylkill expressway watching minor construction. normally, the vine street expressway headed to south street or 30th street station, we usually see some kind of lane closures. right now, we're adjusting the lane closures, we're not seeing an entire closure during that stretch. a 12-minute eastbound from the blue route to the vine, speeds there in the 60s. vai and tracy. >> now, to an update on the story we brought you as breaking news yesterday morning. >> a man escaped a failed ransom attempt with this life but suffered burns to more than half of his body when his captors set him on fire. a neighbor's video shows the car in flames. here's how it started. the man had jut finished work at a group home for people with special needs. police say the abductors bound the victim, lit him on fire. we spoke to a neighbor, one of

several who helped the manalive. >> i seen him, he was burned from the waist down. it was pretty bad. it was sad. >> the victim remains in the hospital in critical condition. back to the beginning of the story, police say the gunmen used the victim's cell phone to call his family demanding $10,000 but police say the family didn't pay. that's when the abductors lit him on fire. the abductors were last seen in a black audi with tinted windows. >> happening today, friends family and police will remember an officer on the memorial of his death. from olney, you're looking at this video from last year's vigil. officer pulaski was 25 years

good morning, welcome to nbc10 news. i'm tracy davidson. >> and i'm vai sikahema. just about 5:00 a.m. and it is cold out there, let's get to meteorologist bill henley. the most accurate nbc10 "first alert" weather forecast. bill? >> especially this time yesterday, this time yesterday, we still had neighborhoods close to 60 degrees. not this morning. back to february. 20s right now for new jersey, the lehigh valley, suburbs and philadelphia. and delaware is at 28 degrees right now. we will see a lot of sunshine. and the winds will back off during the day. that's a 13-mile-per-hour wind that's blowing right now in wilmington. 9 miles an hour at 10:00. sunshine, will be climbing to the freezing point at 10:00 but it will go higher this afternoon as winds die down and bright sunshine takes us through the day. looks like low 40s for just about everybody. with the exception, the jersey shore into the 30s for today. i'll break it down hour by hour and show you how quickly the
