federal election monitors watching out for your voting rights today. it's one of 67 jurisdictions across the country that the u.s. department of justice will be monitoring in person. while the total of 500 staffers will be watching polls across the u.s. today that's a 35% reduction from the number just 4 years ago. now, hundreds of federal employees including military and cyber experts will also be on high alert today concerned by officials are monitoring incoming intelligence from several top second are receipt facilities like this underground bunker on the east coast. the nation is ready to react to any treat to communications or command systems including an attack on the u.s. power grid. . >> there is maybe a one in 3 chance of this happening but it's not insignificant. >> 6 national cyber centers and 54 state emergency operation centers have been activated.

. another big show down is the fight for the 13th congressional district. u.s. representative jolly could lose his seat to crist. news channel 8 is joined live in pinellas county. do we have any idea how this race is leaning this morning? >> reporter: well, a lot of eyes will be on this race here in pinellas county as close tonight to see who will emerge, the former florida governor could be headed from our state's capital to the nation's capital. crist is 5 points ahead of jolly. that survey was conducted by floridapolitics.com. 51% were backing crist. this race was all sparked when marco rubio was on the presidential campaign trail earlier this year and his

eager to jump into his place since the redrawing of his district was republican david jolly, but that was not meant to be when his poll numbers dipped rubio dropped his bid and decided to retable his senate seat sending jolly back to run against the former governor. both will be hosting watch parties tonight with jolly appearing at the -- in pete beach so it will be interesting to see who is convict or i couldn't say from this race. we know what the polls have said but anything is possible. >> again, a reminder that it's not just the presidential race, lots at stake, different issues that we all get to vote on. across america this morning the search continues for a california mom who went missing while jogging. family and

right now the search is on for a home invader accused of tying up and robbing an elderly couple at gunpoint. she heard the doorbell range and when she opened the door 4 people barged in. her husband describes what happened next. >> she started struggling with one of the guys, and they threw . >> the men took off with cash and other items shortly after officers spotted 3 of the suspects crashed in a ditch in this car stolen from kissimmee. investigators are looking for a 4th suspect. they believe he's driving the couple's stolen car, a black 2012 buick with the florida tag bguc 84. if you see it call lakeland police.

preschool are recovering after they all got sick. >> now, the state health department is investigating, a scary scene. ambulances rushing kids to the hospital from that school. 30 kids were sick, 19 of them ended up in the hospital. officials suspect food poisoning, they're looking at a catered lunch serve today children. this is scary, a second squirrel attack in a retirement community in the central part of the state. the sterling court yesterday. a staff member shot and kid the squirrel with a bb gun. this is the second attack at the same complex for seniors. last thursday's attack leaving 2 residents and a staff member with serious bite wounds. that squirrel got away. now, officials don't know if the squirrel killed is the same one from last week's attack that maybe didn't get away.
