those are the spots hovering right near that freezing mark. it's a chilly start but not as cold as yesterday. we're breezy throughout the day, the same breeze throughout the southwest that brings the mild air in. so lower 50s by 3:00. not too bad, increasing sun as well. kind of starting out dreary, so i think all is not lost on the sun forecast. we do have rain to talk about coming up on the workweek. and i'll have that news for you straight ahead. >> heather: we are learning new details about the investigation into a new hampshire woman's murder. >> daniel: denise roberts was killed august 30th, while taking a walk during a manchester neighborhood. now they're saying she was shot from a car in a drive by. >> heather: this news is coming almost six months from the date when the woman was killed. stephanie coueignoux is live in manchester this morning. and stephanie, police are now saying this crime was not random.

heather, police are now saying that someone wanted to kill robert and they actually shot and killed her along ray street. taking a look behind me, you can see this sign put up by the city of manchester, a neighborhood watch sign, asking anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 911. this is where robert was walking when she was shot and killed. since that day, the police and the fbi have been working extensively to try and find her killer. now, according to the union leader, police say robert was the target of a targeted drive by shooting. she was an advertising rep. she had 10 siblings and lived with her mother here in town. police won't say why they believe this shooting was targeted or what evidence to support that theory. they say they're not sharing that information because they don't want to release any information that could compromise this investigation.

they did share that could provide some insight into this crime. in manchester, new hampshire, i'm stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 news. >> heather: also developing, a police officer with ties to new hampshire who is working her first day on the street was killed last night responding to a domestic call in virginia. local television affiliate from the dc area say a man shot his wife and then shot three police officers, killing ashley who had just been sworn in friday. the washington post is reporting that again don graduated from mayor mack high school in 2005 and also served in the marine corps reserve. two other officers hurt are now being treated for their injuries. >> daniel: an alert neighbor helps bedford police catch four burglar after a string of home break ins. these men were taken into custody after a homeowner saw them break into a neighbor's house. they found three of the men inside, the fourth was in the

also inside that jeep, police discovered a black notebook with several addresses that could link them to other crimes throughout new england. this morning, police saying they may have disrupted a crime ring. >> their addresses to certain homes in different communities and when we started calling around to those communities, they were connected to her b and es. >> daniel: they will be arraigned in concord district court monday. >> heather: and a crash to tell you about in -- actually, first we'll go to a break in bedford. a 63-year-old man is covering recovering at brigham and women's hospital this morning, after a plane he was flying in plymouth crashed during take off. the initial moments in a radio call. take a listen. >> report of a plane crash, it's upside down. fire and ambulance responding. >> heather: witnesses tell fox 25, he done his own seatbelt and

airport. witnesses say a strong gust of wind is to blame for pitching the plane's nose and flip flipping it on its roof. that pilot had injuries. state police happeneded to be doing training exercises at the time and air lifted the pilot to the hospital. and another cape cod airport also closed for several hours after a plane there landed without its landing gear. you can see what the single engine looked like after it touched down at chatham airport yesterday. authorities say it belly landed with the landing gear still retracted. the pilot, jonathan finch was not hurt. nor his passenger. that plane suffered minor damage. >> daniel: happening today, fresh off of the land slides victory, presidential candidate hillary clinton is picking up the endorsement from

so we have that to enjoy. temperatures right now upper 30s plymouth over to brewster. lower 30s for worcester appeared lowell. pepperell 36 degrees. look at these afternoon numbers, chelmsford mid 50s, holliston as well as dedham. down toward concord and waltham, lower 50s here. around framingham too. and this is a look here across worcester county with lower 50s. so we all popped the 50 degree mark today. if anyone is going to get caught in the 40s, it should be the outer capes and the island with that cold water, a southwest wind coming over the top of that. kind of acts a mini cool front there. winter days above 50s. this graphic pretty interesting. because we have more winter days above 50 degrees than any other. recorded history. 26 in worcester, and today we're going to make it 34.

and shot and killed her right here along ray street. now that the sun is up, you can get a better idea as to just how quiet this community is. taking a look behind me, this is a neighborhood watch sign that the city of manchester has put up, asking anyone who sees anything suspicious to immediately call 911. this is exactly where robert was walking when she was shot and killed. and since that day, police and the fbi have been working extensively to try and find her killer. now, according to the union leader, police are saying robert drive by shooting. the 62-year-old, she was well known in this area. she had worked here for decades and had 10 siblings and lived with her mother here in town. since her murder, there has been a 42,000 dollar reward for any information about her murder. now, while police say they random. they aren't saying what evidence

shooting was targeted or who they believe may have killed her. they told the union leader that they didn't want to release any information that could compromise this investigation. but coming up the one detail they did share that could provide some insight into this crime. in manchester, new hampshire, i'm stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 news. >> heather: developing this morning, a police officer with ties to new hampshire who was working her first day on the street was killed last night responding to a domestic call in virginia. local television affiliate from the dc area say a man shot his wife and then shot three police officers, killing ashley gwendon. who had just been sworn in on friday. washington post reported that she had searched in maryland and in the marine reserve. two others officers shot and being treated for their injuries. >> daniel: new bedford police

to the date actually, when that woman was shot and killed. stephanie coueignoux is live in manchester this morning. stephanie, police are now also saying ha the crime wasn't random. >> reporter: and police are saying that someone wanted to kill robert. and actually shot her here along ray street. taking a look behind me. you can see that the city of manchester has put up this neighborhood watch sign asking anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 911. well, it was here when robert was walking that day when she was shot and killed and since that day, police and the fbi have been working extensively to try and find her killer. now, according to the union killer, police are saying robert was the victim of a targeted drive by shooting. the 62-year-old was very well known in this area. she had worked here for decades. she also had 10 siblings and lived with her mother here.

there has been a $42,000 reward for information. now while police are saying they do not believe her murder was random. they're not saying what evidence they have to believe her shooting was targeted or who may have killed her. they're not releasing any information because they don't want to compromise their investigation. but coming up, the one detail they did share that could provide some insight into this crime. in manchester, new hampshire, i'm stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 news. >> heather: all right. stephanie, we'll be sure to stay on top of that for you. 8:03 now and developing this morning, a police officer with ties to new hampshire who was working her first day on the street was killed last night while responding to a domestic call in virginia. take a look right here at video of that officer arriving at the hospital after she was shot last night. a large convoy escorting her body to the hospital there. a man shot his wife and then

killing ashley gwendon who had just graduated on friday. she graduated from merrimac new hampshire in 2005 and served in the marine corps reserves. a statement said the two others officers hurt are still treated for their injuries. >> daniel: it is 8:04 right now. a local neighbor helps bedford police capture four burglars after a string of home break ins. after a neighbor saw hem breaking into a neighbor's house. bedford police got the 911 call and found three of the men inside. the fourth in this black jeep up the road. also inside that jeep, police discovered a black notebook with several addresses that could link them to other crimes throughout new england. this morning, police are saying they may have disrupted a crime ring. >> addresses to certain homes in different communities and when we started calling around those community, they were connected

>> daniel: all four men will be arraigned in concord district court monday. >> heather: a 63-year-old man is recovering in a hospital this morning after the plane he was flying crashed during take off. take a look at the video right here, the initial moms were captured on the call. >> fire and ambulance responding. >> heather: before first responders could get to that man, witnesses tell fox 25, he was able to undo his own seatbelt and pulled himself out of the record where damage. this all happening at plymouth municipal airport. witnesses say a strong gust of wind is to blame for pitching that plane's nose and flipping it onto its roof right there. that pilot suffered broken ribs, head trauma and facial lacerations. state police just happened to be doing helicopter training at the time and were able to air lift the man to the hospital. that runway, though, was closed for several hours while the faa investigated and incoming planes had to be diverted. and another cape cod airport was also closed for

we're running 15, 18 degrees milder right now than yesterday here's why. a southwest wind has taken over. and really helped to keep temperatures really from falling too much in the overnight and on into the morning. so if you're just breaking up with us, that southwest breeze is keeping temperatures well above the freezing mark. in fact, normally this time of the morning, we might still be in the upper 20s, instead we're in the upper 30s in boston. burlington. and as we go to the cape and islands, i have low to mid 40s right now. and as you go back up to the north shore and the south shore mostly upper upper 30s. go back to the west, a couple of 32s jaffrey and barre other than that everybody is above freezing. as we close out february, we're doing so on a mild note. check out these temperatures, beverly at 53. haverhill at 54.

up -- framingham right around 50 degrees. worcester, too. boylston how about 52 for you today. that's a good say 10, 15 degrees above normal for this time of the year. we are going to keep the upper 40s for the cape and islands because of the cold water there doing the trick on coastal temperatures. but still not too bad for the latter part of february. now we have had more 50 degree days in boston. we've had 33 of them than any other day on record. classifies as december, january, february for weather keeping purposes. even though spring doesn't officially begin until march 20th. we have a good way to close close out the meteorological winter on a warmer note. and tomorrow, another 50 degree. check it out. 40s waking up to a clear morning. it's going to pass from around midday.

you might want to keep the umbrella around on stand by because it's going to be a brief passing shower chance. not going to last all day. won't be a wash out by any stretch. but have a quick line of showers and narrow band coming through and then exiting over towards the cape and islands by about 2, 3:00. bigger story tomorrow, i think, will be the temperatures. we're going to keep it mild in the low to mid 50s. then tuesday, a little cooler but staying dry. it's late tuesday night into wednesday when our next storm makes its way in. right now the track is north and west of boston. so if we're going to see any flakes, it will way to the north and west on the front end and back end of the storm with mostly just rain in between and a good soaking of it too, coming up on wednesday. the week. and the cold air will be around just in time for our next set of storms to roll in. the question is how strong will they be, how close will they get. late snow chances by late friday into next saturday. >> heather: jason, i don't know

and stephanie, i think the most shockingly new detail we learned this morning is police say this wasn't a random shooting. >> reporter: and, in fact, heather and daniel, police are saying they have enough evidence to say that they believe her murder was intentional. now when this happened here along ray street in this very quiet community, neighbors were shocked. they were calling her murder senseless. well, according to the union leader, the police are now saying robert was taking her usual walk along ray street when someone drove up, shot her in the head and drove off. this is video from sky fox, i believe, showing a search from months back that's when police and the fbi combed for several blocks here in the neighborhood. they never mentioned if they found any helpful evidence during that search.

she lived here with her mother siblings. at the time people told us that robert had a very specific routine. every sunday evening, she would park her car at a nearby church and then walk. part of that walk included walking here along ray street. as for who may have killed her and why, police not releasing that information. saying that they don't want to compromise their investigation. we are going to be reaching out to police this morning and pass along any updates for you as soon as we receive it. meantime, coming up, the incentive that police offered to anyone for information about this crime. in manchester new hampshire, i'm stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 news. >> daniel: two more gas stations hit by credit card skimmers. take a look at the device police found. that popped up at pumps in two different shell stations in new hampshire. one on long hill road the other on central avenue.

nearby if needed. the goal is to cut down on fraud and assault. >> heather: new information for you right now, by the number of people hit by taxpayer data theft last year. the irs is now saying close to 720,000 people were victims. and that's actually seven times more than originally thought. anyone who was at risk will be offered free credit protection and can be expect the irs to be in touch starting this week. 8:35. several boston civil rights groups are calling for a federal investigation into racial discrimination at boston latin schools. students there say they were subjected to racism, including a slur used by a teacher. now there's a push for the department of justice to get involved. the urban league of eastern massachusetts and other groups say they have reason for concern because boston public schools aren't looking into the situation further. they also want boston latin's head master to be fired. saying her public apology isn't enough.

now saying that this crime was not random after all. >> reporter: and, you know, heather, i also just spoke with a woman who was walking her dog and she told me she's very thankful for that new information, she's saying they now believe that robert's murder was intentional. in fact, this he was shot and killed here along ray street. and we've been showing you this neighborhood watch sign all morning long. and it asks anyone who sees anything suspicious to call 911. well, that woman who was walking her dog told me that manchester, the city of manchester, actually, put that sign up after robert's murder. and since that day, police and the fbi, they have been working extensively to try and find whoever killed her. now, according to the union leader, police are saying robert was the victim of a targeted drive by shooting. the 62-year-old very well known

>> heather: all right. stephanie, we are following more developing news for you this morning. a police officer with ties to new hampshire who is working her first day on the street was killed last night responding to a domestic call in virginia. we want to show you some video of that officer arriving at the hospital, being transported there along with a convoy after she was shot last night. a man shot his wife and then shot three police officers, killing officer ashley gwendon. she had only been sworn in as an officer on friday. and this is the picture the department tweeted out just after that ceremony. now the washington post is reporting she graduated from college in 2005 and served in the marine corps reserves. the two other officers being hurt are being treated for their injuries. we'll stay on top of this story and including the local connection and bring you any updates as we hear them.

four burglars after a string of break ins. these four men taken into custody after a homeowner saw them break into a neighbor's house. the police got the call and found three of the men in the house and the fourth up the road inside a jeep. they found a notebook in the jeep with several addresses that could link them to other burglaries throughout new england. >> we started calling the communities, they were connected to other b and es. >> daniel: all four men will be arraigned in concord district court monday. >> heather: a 63-year-old man recovers in brigham women's hospital is after a plane he a was piloting crashed during take off. the initial call, take a listen. >> ambulance and fire responding. >> heather: before first

witnesses tell fox 25 that man was able to undo his own seatbelt and pulled himself out of the wreckage at plymouth municipal airport. witnesses say a strong gust of wind is to blame for pitching the plane's nose and flipping it on its roof as you can see there. the pilot suffered broken ribs, head trauma and facial lacerations, state police just happened to be there doing helicopter training exercises at the time. they air lifted the man to the hospital. that runway was closed for several hours while the faa investigated and incoming plane had to be diverted. another airport also closed after a plane landed there without the landing gear. you can see what it looked like after it touched down yesterday afternoon. thorths say it belly landed with its landing gear still retracted. fortunately, though, that 71-year-old man who was piloting the plane was not hurt nor was his 72-year-old passenger.

forward. this is ray street, the area where denise robert was walking when she was shot and killed. when it first happened neighbors here were of course shocked calling her murder senseless. according to the union leader police are now saying she was taking her usual walk when someone drove up, shot her right in the head and then sped off. now as fox 25 has been covering this story for months and just a few months back, sky fox flew over a search that police and the fbi conducted. they were going through several blocks in this upscale north end neighborhood. they never mentioned whether they found in i helpful evidence. but they are coming out with with -- police say robert had a very specific routine. every sunday morning, she would park her car at a nearby church and walk. and part of that walk included

one woman i just spoke with says while she's glad there's an update. she says it's truly unbelievable that anyone would have a reason to kill her. >> it doesn't seem as though she would be a threat to anybody. but, again, i don't know anything really about her. but there's somebody that just walked here on sunday night, that seems strange. >> reporter: as for who may have killed her and why, police not releasing that as part of their update because they say they don't want to compromise their investigation. we're going to continue to reach out to police and of course pass along any update on air and online at myfoxboston.com, in new hampshire, stephanie coueignoux, fox 25 morning news. >> heather: also following developments this morning. a police officer tied to new hampshire is dead shot by a suspect on her first day on the street. this is video of officer ashley gwendon being transported by a convoy to a hospital last night.

officers were attacked when responding to a domestic call. the suspect is accused of shooting his wife and then the officers. she was only served in as an officer a day before this happened. her department tweeted this picture out after that ceremony friday. that's gwendon right there in the middle. she graduated from merrimac high school in 2005 and served in marine corps reserve. the officers that were hurt, are being treated for think whys. we'll stay on top of that information for you. >> daniel: more gas gas stations hit by a skimming. that skimmer popped up at two different shell stations in dover new hampshire, one on long hill road and other on central avenue. we've been reporting for weeks now several devices turned up in massachusetts. keep a close eye on credit card statements for any fraudulent charges.
