>> sarah: 5:13 this morning. to damage after strong storms blew through overnight. in concord trees are down. thousands of homes and businesses are starting the day without power. a crazy storm system that rolled through overnight. >> ryan: tons of rain. driving in this morning, you could see puddling all over the place, and you could see it hitting the houses. >> sarah: and you forget how easy it is to hydroplane. >> chris: many towns picking up close to an inch of water in

warnings in place. no tornado warnings in place. the tornado warning was between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. in middlesex county. two separate warnings came out. boston, still some scattered downpour. steady light rain duxbury to buzzards bay. tropical downpours south of the vineyard and nantucket. we'll keep an eye on these right now. the velocity scan doesn't show any rotation with any of these cells drifting off to place that. was a different story early this morning. want to take you back to 2:30, 3:00 a.m. this was the back edge of the line of thunderstorms that went on through. you notice on this back edge that one cell that went through metro west had that little hook to it on the back side. there wasn't a lot of lightning with this system, but in a tropical air mass, we have tons of humidity. the cloud base on these thunderstorms tend to be really low. so any time you get rotation, you have a lot of curvature,

can briefly get a tornado here. there was a tornado warning. i'm getting reports of damage. so the national weather service will go out and see what happens. we had reports of scattered damage from concord to sudbury and marlborough. close to maynard and sudbury, you see that hook in there. then as that notch went over concord here, that continued into the bedford area. right over concord, we had some of these brighter redsho green. so certainly rotation with it and some stronger winds aloft. we'll see what comes out of that once the national weather service surveys that area. worcester picking up over an inch of rain. boston a much-needed three-quarters of an inch. so i guess the beneficial side of this was the rain. you don't want to see the severe weather. you don't want to see tornado warnings come out, but we certainly need the rain, you know that, with this ongoing drought situation. after this i don't see much

through new york and the great lakes. nothing going on in terms of precipitation. 67 in boston. 63 in worcester. the dew point is lower from west to east for the day. this is a bone-dry air mass coming in. in fact, a touch of fall overnight tonight. wouldn't be surprised to see a few of the suburbs dip into the upper 40s. i think we'll be in the upper 50s in boston and then on wednesday we begin to warm up in the afternoon. but much of the time on the dry side, even thursday i 7news, 84 this afternoon. gusty. mid-70s in the worcester hills. should be about 8082 in boston. 84 down through southeastern mass. on -- 7 on 7 forecast, much of that is done from boston on west as we speak. can't rule out an isolated shower or thunderstorm on friday. much of the time, though, it's going to be dry, including heading into next weekend. guys? >> we're heading into the olympics zone for one last

particleborough where crews have been cleaning up overnight. let's get over the chris lambert to talk about the damage and what we can expect for the rest of the day. >> chris: a couple tornado warnings came out between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. that's where we're seeing the damage from marlborough and also concord. the national weather service will see if that was straight line wind damage or tornado damage later this morning. right now no warnings in place. rainfall down through plymouth county, worcester county, a couple downpours across the cape. we'll keep an eye on that. what happened early on the back side of the line through, real close you can see that little hook that started right around marl br and continued right through concord. as that cell went on through, it produced that damage from marlborough to concord. spotty damage at that. so it wasn't a consistent line through the whole entire area. but even sometimes when you get a tornado, if indeed this was a case, it can briefly touch down, lift back up, and touch down again. we'll have to see what kind of damage comes out of that, whether the tree and the damage are all blowing in one direction

collide. boston police say they got a 911 call around 2:00 a.m. with reports of two people hurt along the highway. but by the time police arrived, one of those two victims was dead. the other hurt and rushed to the hospital. investigators closed down the road for hours trying to figure out how this tragedy happened. you can see officers with flashlights walking up and down the road, combing for clues. all b.p.d. is saying is that their investigation is ongoing. ontrawnl livery incorporated, which owns the bus, says, "we extend our deepest we're cooperating withs be police and will provide officials with anything they need to investigate this tragic accident. our driver was questioned by boston police briefly as per protocol before he was released and sent home." so far no charges have been filed. there is no word yet on the injured person's condition. right now police are searching for the suspects after three people are shot in dorchster. it happened saturday night on westview street. the victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

it, and you can see that with the little bit of a notch, a little bit of a hook coming on down, but also in the velocity scan. we have that green and red together. that will continue the journey from sudbury and concord. you can see on that cell that you notch that hook trying to get going over concord. when you combine that with the velocity scan, we saw that rotation. that's the reason why the national weather service put out some tornado warnings. one around 3:00 and the second one at 3:30 to 4:00. the concord areae the national weather service looked for straight line wind damage or because of that rotation, the possibility of a brief tornado that touched down. we'll wait the find out the results of that later this morning. otherwise quiet weather. not much going on to the west of us. that he humidity, comfortable air mass moving in as we speak. dew points drop into the low 60s in worcester county down to 62347 boston. shift high humidity across the cape and the islands within the next few hours. very quiet weather across the midwest.

high pressure settling on in. even a touch of fall showing up overnight tonight. a few of the suburbs down into the upper 40s and lower 50s. so very comfortable start tomorrow. bone-dry humidity tuesday into wednesday. warmer thursday, friday. isolated storm friday, but much of the seven-day forecast dry. >> sarah: we have team 7 coverage of this severe weather. crews are making their way out. >> concord is one of the areas hardest hit by these storms. jennifer eagan is there live th jen? >> jennifer: ryan, good morning. this is some of the most significant damage we've seen so far this morning. there was a tree uprooted in front of this person's home. it's resting on some power lines. the private light department here in concord, concord municipal light, they've been on scene this morning. concord fire and police are here, as well. no reports of any injuries from the damage around here in concord. from what we understand from the national weather service, concord and marlborough

storms. they put out a list of some of the damage in the area, things like trees down in the area and damage to telephone poles, as well. we've seen the homeowner. they've been out in their front yard earlier this morning. again, concord fire and police on scene, we expect the hear an update from them shortly about what has been going on in town. but quite a bit of clean-up here. we expect that the national weather service will be here at some point later this morning. they will be s what kind of storms move through here. live in concord this morning, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> ryan: there are reports of damage across several towns. >> sarah: crews, of course, cleaning up. let's end it out to 7's. >> kris: live in marlborough. how are things looking there, kris? >> kris: sarah, we were over on curtis street earlier. we've moved over to walker street where there is an even bigger problem, literally. take a look over my shoulder. the crews are cleaning up about a 120-foot section of pine tree

here's the good news. there is no structural damage. didn't hit any cars or any houses that they know of at this point. the bad news is it is covering the roads, so they need to move in and clear that out, and it also took down some power lines, so at its peak around 3:00 a.m., there are about 1,500 to 2,000 people without power that has since shrunk big time now. it's just small, isolated pockets of power outages. they quickly restored electricity to most of the houses around walker street. mao the crews are waiting off to thid get that 120-foot pine tree that crashed across the roadway removed so they can get this road back open. we'll bring you an update on 7news "today in new england." that's the latest in marlborough. kris anderson, 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: time now for fast track traffic with danielle gersh. >> danielle: thanks, sarah. good morning, everyone. not even 6:00 a.m. we're watching a few accidents already. here's the expressway this morning. we're seeing that stop and go traffic. not seeing any major storm

but in secondary roadways definitely seeing some issues. let's go to the maps. one of the accidents is northbound on the expressway at savin hill. that's slowing down your commute. also slow around the braintree split this morning. route 3, 24 and 895 not looking too bad. we're watching an accident, and this is 495 northbound at the pike. a big rig heading into town on the pike. no other issues. then on route 1, this is northbound here watching another accident at webster avenue. let's check those drive times if the door this morning. already 20 minutes braintree to boston, northbound on the expressway. 12 minutes into town on the pike from 18. no delays there. 93 southbound, 128 to the zakim bridge, also 12 minutes. both the "t" and commuter rail running on schedule this morning. back to you, guys. >> ryan: right now police in connecticut are searching for two suspects who shot up a house party. investigators say two gunmen opened fire in the backyard. 13 people were shot. right now one woman is in critical condition. the other victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

>> sarah: a race to the rescue to save several people from a sinking boat off of martha's vineyard. coast guard officials say the boat started taking on water sunday morning because it had a cracked hull. the coast guard sent a boat and helicopter to rescue the six people on board and they were also able to tow the boat to shore. thankfully no one was hurt. >> ryan: new this morning, pills found in prince's mansion after his death have been misladies and gentlemenned. >> sarah: that's according to the "minnesota sr knowledge close to the investigation. according to the source, the pills marked as hydrocodone actually contained another open owed fentanyl. the source say prince had so much of the drug in his system that he had no chance or surviving. prince passed away in april at the age of 57. an autopsy showed he died of an accidental fentanyl overdose. the report does not say how the singer obtained that painkiller. according to the newspaper, investigators are leaning toward the theory that prince did not

fentanyl. >> ryan: new details now. turkey's president says the young suicide bomber affiliated with isis killed at a deadly wedding attack saturday night. at least 50 people were killed and dozens of others injured in the blast which took place during a wedding party. it's not known if the wedding was targeted. police say a mother and her six-year-old son in florida when the mother lost control of the car and went over a concrete barrier. you can see the car over the overpasses. rescue crews used ropes to pull the mother and child to safety. the driver has been charged with reckless driving. >> sarah: hyundai and mitsubishi are recalling thousands of cars. hyundai is recalling more than 64,000 elantras from the 2013 model year due to a brake pedal issue. the pedal stopper can deteriorate, which means the transmission could shift out of park without any pressure being applied to the brake.

international incident at the olympics in rio. >> this is 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: breaking news at:00. you're taking a live look at the damage caused by severe storms in marlborough this morning. the thunderstorms led to tornado warnings to the west and the north of boston. >> ryan: there are trees down and power outages. we're also expecting a news conference from the concord fire department at any moment right now. first let's look at chris lambert, who has been tracking this all morning long. what's the latest? that started out of marlborough area. we went through concord and through sudbury, as well. most of the damage marlborough into concord. on the back side of that cell, strong winds lost as well as rotation. it's possible that a tornado did touch down. national weather service going to head out there later this morning to determine whether it's straight-line winds or tornado. we had the rotation on the radar. right now the weather is quiet. boston points west, we're in the clear. we still have system rain down through plymouth county along the coastline enter buzzards

downpours rolling through truro all the way down into new england and chatham, as well. we'll keep an eye on these storms. most of your thunderstorm washings or tornado warnings in place as of now. in the wake of this line of storms working on through, we increase the sunshine. we lower the humidity. and it's going the feel nice outside this afternoon. a little northwesterly wind will be gusty. but temperatures overall running close to 80 degrees. some very pleasant weather settling on in for several days to come. more on that forecast ahead these storms is marlborough where we find kris anderson. >> kris: ryan, the national weather service will be out here in the marlborough area surveying the damage to figure out if it was was a tornado that ripped through here. take a look at walker street. about a 120-foot section of a giant pine tree came crashing down. it is now covering the roads. the work crews are back there now trying to get it sawed away and dragged away so they can open up the roadways.

tree came crashing down, they took out some power lines some 2:30, 3:00 a.m., almost 3,000 people were without power in the marlborough area. they've that are rung its down a bit because work crews are working to restore power, so it's a small section, units without electricity at this point while they work the try to restore it to the last few, but again, they're trying to get this tree removed so national grid can come in and fix the power lines and get that done. good news here, it doesn't appear that there are any damages to any homes or cars or any structures. least at this point. but again, national weather service will be out here to take a look an see if it because microburst, some straight-line winds or a tornado that touched down here in the marlborough area. that's the latest here in marlborough, kris anderson, 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: thanks, kris. we'll head back over the concord now. you see this massive tree that has come down in this yard because of this storm. let's send it out to jen eagan with the very latest on how things are looking there. jen? >> jennifer: sarah, good

anyone in concord. we just spoke to the fire chief a few moments ago. he says the power lines in town that you can see that are affected right now, they may still be charged. so you certainly want to be very careful if you're anywhere in town and you see a downed power line in concord. there is significant damage here on hawthorne lane. obviously the tree in this person's front yard was uprooted. again, resting on those power lines. the chief telling us a few moments ago there was also significant damage on lexington road. thatdb they're out with the daylight just getting their first real look at the damage in town. he was telling us that there were no injuries from a storm that rolled through here overnight, but there is some damage to some of the homes here. he said probably half dozen homes at least that they know of so far were affected by the storm. and again, power affected in town, as well. concord has its own private light department. concord municipal light. he said right now they're going through and trying to shut off

areas, but it's not work that's been completed yet. you want to make sure you're very careful if you see any downed power lines in concord. no injuries from this storm that came through here overnight, the national weather service said that concord and marlborough were the towns most affected by the storms that came through. they will likely be out in the area later today, assessing the damage, and trying to determine exactly what kind of storm came through this area. live in concord this morning, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> sarah: all right. time now for fast track traffic. how are the roads looking, danielle? >> danielle: the secondary roads seeing some of that damage, but as far as the main roadway, we aren't seeing any downed trees. but there are quite a few accidents to talk about. the expressway looks like a parking lot this morning. not helping that is an accident northbound at savin hill there slowing things down. south of town, some yellow on route 24. so things slow and go.

there. she tells us a lot of trees are down, power lines are down and the fire department is warning people to not go outside right away, be sure to check to make sure you don't have any power lines down because some of those power lines could still be active as we look toward these dramatic pictures from sky7. >> sarah: amazing to see those trees down. i feel like when it came through overnight and early this morning, it was fast and furious. >> chris: it was. a lot of wind speed aloft driving some of these storms through. despite it not being during this afternoon, the day teem heating, the wind profile with the coming in place, and as well as the churning of the winds as you went up on the ground up into the clouds. that helped the location. we had that front driving on through, creating severe storms early this morning. take a look now. we don't have any warnings in place. we still have some storms across the outer cape. substantial showers ongoing down across the cape cod canal. these storms, if you look at this whole thing, there's massive line of downpours that

back side is one thunderstorm with that rotation that took advantage of the high humidity in place. also these tropical air masses, the clouds tend to be closer to the ground, and that can help produce the rotation down toward the ground because it doesn't have as far to drop from cloud base the ground to get a tornado on the ground. so national weather service will investigate this area from marlborough over to concord of what went on earlier this morning, whether a straight-line wind or tornado damage. but we had the sing chur of rotation from marlborough as well went through about 3:00 until 3:15. had that little notch there, and also had rotation. you can see some of those stronger winds a lot earlier this morning in the concord area. so we'll await the national weather service survey team here to see whether it was a tornado or not. but regardless, we do have some weather quiet eting down, certainly from boston on weather. we're done with the rain entering into a he humidity air mass in place. showers and storms across the cape will be done over next

concord or passing through at some point later today. we spoke to the fire chief a few moments ago. he was saying some of the power lines you see affected by this storm right now may still be charged. there is a private light department here in concord. concord municipal light. right now they're in the process of going through and trying to shut off the power to these power lines. but again, if you see any downed power lines while you're out, particularly this morning, you're going to want to be aware there may still be electricity going to those. we're here right now. a tree came down in a person's from the yard here. we just spoke to the woman who was home at the time. her name is jenna milk nicholas. she tells us the storm rolled through in just about three minutes. it was very intense, trees coming down in the front yard and the backyard, as well. the fire chief telling us there significant damage right concentrated in this area. he also mentioned lexington road, which is right down the street from where we are. from what we understand, that road is impassable this morning

they've been getting out and getting their first real look at the damage. they know of at least six homes with dang to them, no reports of any injuries, though, so that's the good news. and the chief urging people to stay home today if they can. they sent out a reverse 911 to all residents in town, telling them about the damage throughout the town. from what we understand, the national weather service should be out here later today to assess the damage. and try and determine exactly what kind of storm came through here. live in concord this morning, jennifer eagan, 7news "today in new england." >> jennifer: thanks, jen. another area hit in marlborough. home owners waking up to damage. that's where we find 7's kris anderson with more. kris? >> kris: sarah, good morning. we're waking up to damage with the south of chainsaws. we hear them working behind me on walker street in marlborough where crews are trying to remove a section, about a 120-foot section of pine trees that came crashing down around 2:30, 3:00 a.m. and blocked the road.

structural damage to any homes or the any vehicles and no injuries, but it came crashing down with those storms rolled through early this morning. national weather service, general just mentioned, will be in the concord and marlborough area today where they'll try and figure out if it was a tornado or straight-line winds, a microburst, whatever it was that caused this tree to come crashing down here. we're on curtis street earlier this morning. we saw a similar situation where trees came down. knocked out some power lines. here on walker street, it did take dow well. the contractor crews are here cleaning up, trying to get all of the debris removed. national grid is also here so they can move in and fix the power lines and get power restored to the few remaining houses. 2,500 to 3,000 people in this marlborough area were without power. but it appears most of it has been restored and they want the get the tree removed so they can restore the power to the final few people here waking up this morning after a rough and tumble night with mother nature decided to come roaring through. again, national weather service

in a south boston community sunday morning after a party bus and a person somehow collide. boston police say they got a 911 call around 2:00 a.m. with reports of two people hurt along the highway. but by the time police arrived, one of those two victims was dead. the other hurt and rushed to the hospital. investigators closed down the road for hours trying to figure out how this tragedy happened. you can see officers with flashlights walking up and down the road, combing for clues. all b.p.d. is saying is that their investigation is ongoing. entourage livery incorporated, which owns the bus, says, "we to the families of the victims. we're cooperating withs be police and will provide officials with anything they need to investigate this tragic accident. our driver was questioned by boston police briefly as per protocol before he was released and sent home." so far no charges have been filed. there is no word yet on the injured person's condition. >> sarah: a race to the rescue to safely several people from a sinking boat off of martha's vineyard. coast guard officials say the boat started taking on water sunday morning because it had a cracked hull. the coast guard sent a boat and

severe weather. i consider to be on the dry side from boston out through worcester. i continue to see heavier rain extending from chatham over toward nantucket. i'll get the tropical downpours out of that. many towns picking up a half inch to an inch of water overnight. that's going to be all. you can see tournament mass pike through the new york thruway, quiet weather off to the west of us. lower humidity working in from the west, as well. temperatures down into the low 60s in the worcester hills. 68 in the city of boston. warmth and humidity for the cape. that's not going theas look at the dew point drop, though. we're down into the lower 50s across vermont. 59 in albany and new york. we have this lower humidity working on in, bit of a breeze picking up, mix and sun and clouds through the day. mid-70s in worcester hills. 80 in boston. 84 south of the city. high pressure building in. this will set up shop and protect us with any rain over next several days. overnight tonight, some of the suburbs climb down into that upper 40s and lower 50s. upper 50s into the city of

monday. this is that crash in hopkinton. the delays are 15 minutes headed up to the pike on 495 northbound. the crash is on the ramp. we're also watching this crash in needham. a truck actually caused several cars to be disabled from this. this is traffic backed up all the way to route 95 there on 128 northbound. we had an accident on 93 southbound right here that actually just cleared. so from about wilmington into boston, you're crawling on 93 southbound. route 1 didn't look too bad. braintree to boston, northbound hour. we had an earlier crash that actually did clear. route 24 northbound, stop and go from brockton up to 128. also slow on route 3 northbound from weymouth to the braintree split. let's check those drive times if you're getting ready the head out the door. 26 minutes to half an hour on the expressway. 13 minutes into town on the pike from 128. that's not too bad. half an hour on 93 southbound, 128 to the zakim bridge. if you're taking the "t" or commuter rail, both are running on schedule. back to you, guys.

grazed by a bullet in chinatown early this morning. the shooting happened at essex and kingston streets about 3:00 a.m. no arrests have been made. >> sarah: police combing for clues in the deaths of a woman in winchester. detectives collecting evidence at her home. >> ryan: neighbors on that quiet street say a husband and wife live. there john cuoco on the scene with much more. >> ryan, police are still working this case. they were here on scene at this house until lateas neighbors shocked and saddened i by the news. the middlesex district attorney's office says an elderly woman was found unresponsive here around 2:00 sunday afternoon. ?the district attorney's office says the woman was taken to leahy clinic where she was pronounced dead. according to neighbors, the two people who live in the home are married couple, both in their 70s. state and local police spent hours at the house searching for any and all evidence focusing on the area around a front window. the district attorney's office is calling this an open investigation.
