downed trees... flipped trailers... and missing roofs... today revealed more of the damage left behind by the outbreak of november tornadoes. good evening. i'm dan winters... and i'm sonya heitshusen... the number of confirmed tornadoes is growing... the national weather service says at least five of them touched down. they targeted the cities you see here... in des moines it hit near the airport.. mangling a fence at the iowa air national guard base... a plane was also likely damaged when the wind blew a set of stairs across the tarmac. even bigger problems in barnes city... there... a farmer is still searching for his 50-year old barn... aaron brilbeck has the story. living in rural barnes city...andy mart has seen his share of storms over the years. but he had a feeling this one would be different. and he was right.

"i heard the tornado come through here and i grabbed my girlfriend amalia and the dog we just rode out the storm. we could hear debris flying off the home."they could see it too "as we were running for the coming across the driveway and it drilled the window over here. and that's when we knew it was pretty serious and you can see it got the garage doors pretty good."when the rumbling stopped..mart came outside to assess the damage. the back door and my garage was gone so that was the first thing i noticed got last month was in it so i'll probably be looking for another car chris norman says the garage.. the new convertible inside will both be replaced... many of his neighbors are doing the same thing... the red cross is helping people find new places to stay until things are rebuilt or repaired. governor branstad toured knoxville today. he met with several people who suffered the most damage. a few people suffered minor injuries in the storm. one person was kept in the hospital overnight for observation. the storm led to a terrifying ride home from school in martensdale... one many parents aren't happy about... 054704 - lots of kids were crying because they were afraid we were gonna be in a tornado 200909 - the kids are not their children they are other peoples children and i think their safety needs to come first as the storm neared... 150 elementary and junior high students were let out of school early in order to beat the
