coming up. thema: thank you, jeremy, new from overnight a 33-year-old man is killed outside of his home in riverwest. this happened before 1:00. the man was found outside of this home with a gunshot wound. paramedics tried to save him, but he died at the scene. no suspects are name and the shooting is under investigation. neighbors in bayview in milwaukee are on high alert this morning an a woman was attke kate o'keeffe's jaw was wired shut after the attack. her partner tells wisn 12 news this morning was out around 4:30 on thursday, two people drove up in a car, one man jumped out and punched her in the mouth. the man did not try to rob her. o'keeffe ran home and got help from a woman driving by. >> it was my gut reaction. i saw a woman who needed help and pulled over without hesitation.

middle of the day is extremely squad frightening. thema: o'keeffe will have to keep her jaw wired shut for five weeks. the suspicious car was bright green. police tell wisn 12 news they have not received any other reports of random violence. wisn 12 news time right now, 7:03 it is home coming weekend at u.w.-madison. the badgers are hosting the fight aillini at camp randall stadium, u.w. is a heavy favorite and won six straight games against illinois. they are won three games this season. the badgers are ranked seventh in the polls and the college football playoff rankings. kickoff is at 2:30. last night was the homecoming parade. the festivities were interrupted by a group of demonstrators with a huge banner. they blocked the road. the rally was organized after the university's response to an

wore at a u.w. football game last month. and two basketball players protested during the national anthem. hayes and hill stood behind their teammates as a protest. hayes has been out spoken against the justices against african-americans and supported collin cabin nick's decision to kneel during the anthem. in more than half of a dozensies people took to the streets overnight the president elect donald trump. this was the scene in los angeles where hundreds of demonstrators marched for the third night in a row. the group blocking traffic on city streets, but they did not make it onto the freeways. the video right there, the right side of your screen showing the crowds in philadelphia for a third night. police are saying the gather us was peaceful. no one was arrested. in washington, d.c., groups

[ applause ] mike: u.s. army reservest major mickey simon has been deployed in the middle east almost a year. her husband, ray, and three kids, just found out he was coming home 40 hours ago. >> i didn't expect this at all. so i'm just very thankful to be home and thank you for your support. especially to my family. especially while i have been gone. a very long 10 to 11 months. so home. mike: major simons did not deploy as a unit, so did not have an official redeployment ceremony. so a bunch of coworkers planned this welcome home surprise. >> it was long and crazy and very challenging. but there is still a lot to do. keep the soldiers and airmen in your prays and thoughts.

monkeys to walk for the first time. the research was done by a swiss and american team. they are saying the implants send signals to stimulate the monkey's legs. scientists hope it could one day help people use robotic arms and hands. and also new this morning your flu risk may be linked to the year you were born. new research in the "journal science." people before and after 1968, you could have different flu responses. regardless of your age, you should still get a flu shot. the newest prescription coming from doctors is not one that you need to pickup from the pharmacy. more medical scoots are encouraging classes of future doctors to recommend exercise for their patients. we have more in today's health

far-reaching effects for almost every body system from the brain to the heart. now at least two medical schools are teaching students how to prescribe exercise as a way to present a variety of ailments. can improve memory, concentration and mood and lower high blood pressure and culest rate. and positive effects for some cancer patients, and helps control type ii diabetes, one of the most expensive devices in the country. of dollars a year, but largely preventable through diet and exercise. experts recommend that adults get 75 minutes of activity or 150 minutes of moderate activity weekly. that breaks down to 30 minutes five days a week. doctors are saying that enough to prevent or manage many chronic disease from type ii diabetes to hypertension and cardiovascular disease. go for a walk.

morning. jeremy: this was the coldest morning in milwaukee. the first time we hit 32 degrees. early on this morning our low was 32 degrees. this is technically the last freeze we had since april 12th. you have to go back to the month of april to find temperatures this cold. we made into the season without hitting 32 degrees. we had to go a little bit further to november 24th. we made the one season and did not hit 32 until late mb not the case, at 32 this morning. down in waukesha county, jason tweeted me this photo. he said it looked like snow on the lawn it was so white this morning with the thick blanket of frost and many backyards looking like this, this morning. you can tweet your weather photos to me or stop by the facebook page. a beautiful start to the day if you can deal with the chilly temperatures. 36 in milwaukee.

little bit west-southwest breeze at seven. the winds will start to pickup this morning and land in an eight to 16 miles per hour range. mequon is looking fantastic across lake michigan this morning. this is from our camera. chillier there at 34. most areas are now starting to recover just above freezing. inland locations will take maybe 30 to 60 minutes to warm above 32. and chilly conditions early on. no clouds out great travel conditions across the state. full sunshine, 52 in madison, and the badgers taking on the illini, a great day for football with kickoff at 2:30. and 54 in milwaukee today. lacrosse a few more degrees to 57. suntastic country digs will sunshine through the week. and we will add-in a few more 60's across the region. for sunday's forecast, lacrosse,

of the area mid to upper 50's. so quiet weather this weekend, let's fast forward and talk about what's in store maybe six to seven days down the road. lake-week changes in the forecast. low pressure will track across the upper midwest. this time of year if you're going to get accumulating snow you would want that low track down to the south. it will stay to the north. that will pull in warmer air. at this point, primarily a system if we see precipitation, it would be in the form of rain. ahead of degrees. and then pull in some of the chilly air on the back side. i think next weekend is considerably colder here across southeastern wisconsin. this weekend, though, looks great again. a lot of sunshine. our chilly start gives away to a high of 54 this afternoon. suntastic on sunday with 60 degrees. and then string together 50's. keep in mind the average high is now 48. we will stay above that with a

thema: welcome back, everybody. this morning we are talking about some of the store as that you're sharing on-line. we are getting together glimpse into the "star wars" universe. thema: the latest international trailer of the upcoming rogue one a "star wars" story was just released. we are seeing more of the death star, darth vader and more battles. the film opens next month on december 16th. actor robert redford is retiring soon from acting to focus on directing. the 80-year-old star did an on-line interview with his grandson and radford is saying he is getting tired of acting.

thema: meteorologist jeremy nelson is in the weather center with our cold saturday morning details. jeremy: yeah. no getting aun coldest morning this season. sunshine is nice and warm us up quickly. almost all locations frosty. 32 degrees here in milwaukee overnight. inland locations were as cold as 24. a lot of frost out there. the good news by the afternoon. we will rebound into the 50's. it turns warmer on sunday and keep the sunshine around and focus in on a late weak storm system. and the temperatures 32 at bay view. and in south milwaukee. 36 degrees. up around shorewood it is 29.

in afghanistan killed four people and wounded another 14. the u.s. army general says the attack happened inside of the airfield earlier in the morning. the the taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack which they are saying was carried out by a suicide bomber inside of the case. no word on the nationalities of those killed and wounded. president barack obama is asking congress for an additional $11.6 billion to fight isis. the request comes as iraqi troops backed by u.s. power and advisorerize locked in a fierce battle with isis in the city of mogul. that brings the total price tag this year to $85 billion. the defense secretary is saying the money would fund president barack obama's decision to maintain a larger troopprisance into afghanistan into next year. and another request or the controversial dakota access pipeline. the sioux tribe is calling on president barack obama to halt the pipeline before donald trump takes office next year. donald trump has invested $1 million in energy transfer partners. the parent company of dakota access. since april thousands of people traveled to now dakota to protest the pipeline. right now, wildfires are burning out of control in parts of the south.

of the fires are spreading along the appalachian trail in georgia and tennessee. and other areas like north carolina are also under a burn ban. that's because the renin is experiencing an extreme drought. the governor of alabama is offering a reward to help find the people responsible for setting some of those fires. new this morning a judge is ordering the state of michigan to deliver bottled water to homeowners in flint. residents have been living without access to safe drinking water for two years. the city's water system is being treated after lead contamination. under the clean water act the judge is ordering the bottom water delivery start immediately. a holiday shopping alert this morning. if you're using your phone to buy gifts, security experts are warning about scammers. there are a number of fake apps posings a popular retailers. once you order something, the apps steal your credit card and personal information.

1:00. he went from a walk on to campton of the team. one athlete from uw-milwaukee is scorching the competition. and as we show you, he is overcoming more than just one type of hurdle on the track. reporter: it is late afternoon at uw -- u.w.m.'s have it is loud, but of the noise. because taylor is completely deaf. >> any deaf individual can pursue their dreams. >> reporter: taylor is a green bay native and born deaf. he uses sign language to

theresa. the coach shouts information at his athletes. but when it comes to tailer he is learning to sign what he is saying. >> it definitely opened my eyes. reporter: add first things were not easy. >> we actually had interpreters at practice each day. they would go through and sign. >> if i'm trying to improve my skills i don't necessarily have direct access and clear communication with my coach. and so, oftentimes that can be frustrating, because i want to get better. reporter: and taylor did get better. at the 2016 horizon league outdoor championships this past spring, taylor finished second in the 400-meter hurdles. his time of 53.76 broke a 35-year-old track and field record in the event. >> we can do things just as well as people who can hear.

disabled. reporter: this is tailor's fourth-year on the track team here at u.w.m. the full three years he was walk on. this year a full scholarship. the coach is saying taylor earned it with hard work and dedication. >> i joke that taylor listens better than most of the kids on the team and he is deaf. reporter: and taylor has a message for everyone . he is not disabled. >> the only hurdle we have is the way hearing people see us. >> reporter: but he is fast. >> there are no barriers. we are just like them. reporter: message -- received. in milwaukee, wisn 12 news. thema: track season starts in january. and taylor is the top 400-meter hurdler at u.w.m. and compete in the deaf olympics in turkey next summer. thousands of runners are taking over milwaukee's lakefront this morning. the annual jingle bell run at veterans park.

[music plays] but senior track star taylor can't hear all the noise. that's because taylor is completely deaf. >> any deaf individual can pursue their dreams and achieve it. >> taylor is a green bay native

he uses sign language to communicate and often enlisting the help of an interpreter like theresa. >> a lot of times i get frustrated. communication is the only thing i have a tough time with that. >> coach shots instructions at this athletes. >> get your shoulders tall. get the hips up. you get more range of motion and push better. >> reporter: but with taylor he is learning to sign what he is saying. >> it is definitely opened my eyes to help me with my communication. >> at first things weren't easy. >> we actually had interpreters at practice each day. they would go through and sign everything that i was saying. >> if i'm trying to improve my skills i don't have direct access and clear communication with my coach. often times that is frustrating because i want to get better. reporter: and taylor did get better at the 2016 horizon league outdoor championships this bring, taylor finished

this type of 53.76 broke a 35-year-old track and field record in the event. >> we can do things just as well as people who can hear. so i would not consider myself disabled. reporter: this is tailor's four year on the track team here add u.w.m. the first three years he was a walk-on athlete. this year he earned a full scholarship. taylor earned that scholarship the old fashioned way, with hard >> i always joke that taylor listens better than most of the kids on the team. reporter: and tailor as a message for everyone. he's not disabled. >> oftentimes the only hurdle that we have is the way that hearing people see us. reporter: but he is really fast. >> there are no barriers because we are just like them. we just communicate differently. >> message, received. in milwaukee, tim elliott, wisn 12 news. thema: track season starts in january.
