learned italy's premier... will head to central italy later today. this comes after a quake struck the region - killing at least 37 people. angelica's in the newsroom monitoring this developing situation. here's what we know so far - the earthquake struck near the town of norcia at roughly 3:30 in the morning local time. at least two other towns are reporting damage... with several buildings collapsed... and an unknown numr the rubble. the earthquake's tremors even rattled rome... roughly 100 miles away... and an hour after the quake... a 5-point-5 magnitude aftershock hit near norcia... with several more aftershocks that followed. facebook has activated its safety check feature there so users can let their friends and family know they're okay. the u-s embassy in italy is urging americans to check in on social media as well. this isn't the only deadly earthquake to strike italy

in may 2012... two earthquakes killed dozens in the northern part of the country. and in april 2009... a 6-point-3 magnitude quake hit central italy... killing 295... close to the same area as last night's earthquake. a child is in critical condition after a hit and run crash it happened on milwaukee's north side. deanr m-p-d's district 5 with the latest the 11 year old girl is at children's hospital... she was hit by a car at the intersection of 27th and burleigh... the crash happened at 7:30 pm. we're told it was a car versus bicycle accident. police say their initial investigation shows the child was attempting to cross the street when she was hit the car fled from the scene. the child was taken to the hospital. at this point we don't have a description of the car no suspects are in custody

corinthios fox6 news also new from overnight - milwaukee police... respond to a shooting near 44th and auer - the same intersection where sylville smith was fatally shot nearly two weeks ago. milwaukee police say they responded to a shooting around 10 last night. they don't know what led up to the shooting - but a 19 year old man was reportedly sitting in a car... when someone fired several times into the vehicle. the victim was taken to a hospital by a friend.. serious gunshot wound. he is expected to survive. also new from overnight - kenosha police are investigating a shooting as well. we're told the person was shot in the leg... and taken to a hospital for treatment. no word yet on the age or gender of the victim. we're waiting to hear if any arrests were made. a young boy dies after his head became stuck in a window. it appears the boy may have tried to climb out a window and became trapped. i think he was trying to come out feet first, and the window fell down on his neck, and he

neighbors tell fox6, the boy may have been stuck for sometime, unable to breath before he was found hanging in the window. family members say this is the little boy's grandmothers house, but that no adults were home at the time. the child was being watched by some young teens. neighbors rushed to help when they heard screams, and began c-p-r before paramedics took over. but they say there was nothing they could do. i was just praying in his head, please god give him life. like please help him. thats alli at that point. police say they continue to investigate the cause. officials say no one is being held in custody. straight ahead - video of a toddler getting high - going viral this morning. now - police are launching an investigation. plus - a mother... accused of killing her newborn baby... by putting the child in a refrigerator. but now... some family members are coming forward - and suggesting someone else committed that crime.

wisconsin very often: too much cheese. but - it turns out that's a real problem for u-s dairy farmers right now. cheese surplus is at a 30-year high-- due to factors like higher milk production, more european exports, and sluggish demand. dairy farmers have seen revenues drop by 35-percent in the last two years. the government announced it's going to step in and buy 20-million-dollars worth of excess cheese from private inventories. it then plans to give the cheese to food banks meanwhile - a life-saving drug... suddenly skyrockets in cost. epi-pens have gone up from 100 bucks... to 500 dollars in the last year. the pens inject epinephrine right into the system of someone suffering a severe allergic reaction. the drug maker mylan pharmaceuticals bought the product in 2007. now - two u-s senators are pushing mylan for information about the sharp price increases... and calling on the f-t-c to launch an

the shooting - but a 19 year old man was reportedly sitting in a car... when someone fired several times into the vehicle. the victim was taken to a hospital by a friend... suffering from a very serious gunshot wound. he is expected to survive. an autopsy is scheduled for a young boy who died after his head became stuck in a window. it appears the 2-year-old may have tried to climb out a window feet first and became trapped. neighbors tell fox6, the boy may have been stuck for sometime, unable to br hanging in the window. no adults were home at the time.... teens were supposed to be watching him. his death is still under investigation. we're learning new information about an investigation in sheboygan. two brothers are accused of sexually assaulting a woman. nh 'the victim describes being taken to a park area and being assaulted by individuals in the back seat of that car.'

'second degree sexual assault charges.' prosecutors say the men offered a 21- year old woman a ride to see her probation officer, but when she got in the car, they took her to two liquor stores and got her drunk. investigators believe the woman was already high or intoxicated when this happened. prosecutors say the both men sexually assaulted the woman. she was able to give investigators descriptions of both suspects in large part due to their face tattoos. nh 'its clear this was a non-consensual activity where i believe they fed her some alcohol to increase her level of where i believe they fed her some alcohol to increase her level of intoxication or impairment.' prosecutors also say the girlfriend of one of the increase her level of intoxication or impairment.' prosecutors also say the girlfriend of one of the brothers was set to give birth to their child the day this incident allegedly occurred. this morning: 23 recommendations to improve public safety in milwaukee. but reaction is mixed. a.j. bayatpour tells you why. we all dont agree on everything, right? so were trying to communicate something that is in one document so we

standing with four other aldermen, common council president ashanti hamilton presents the councils public safety action plan - or at least the first draft of it. this is the starting point, alright. we go from there and then we massage it. the report calls for more police officers and sheriffs deputies...along with expanding juvenile detention facilities, including a local boarding school, and less use of electronic monitoring - the opposite of what county executive chris abele supports. abele and his staff meet with hamiltobe is absolutely possible to reduce the level of incarceration and lower crime and for anyone whos wondering about that, you can look to the west at minnesota and many other states that have a lot lower rates of incarceration of adults and youth and have lower crime. compared to last year at this time, milwaukee has had fewer homicides and non-fatal shootings - but those numbers are still high relative to recent years. carjackings through july match the 2015 pace. as for how the public would pay for this, hamilton says theres

damage caused by severe flooding in baton rouge. more than 106- thousand residents and households have requested emergency assistance. at least 13 people were killed in the flooding... and more than 100 thousand homes were damaged. presidential nominee donald trump visited the state last week, criticizing president obama for not visiting sooner. however-- the president says this has nothing to do with politics. "i have seen historically is that when disasters strike, probably one washington tends not to get political. i guarantee you nobody on this block, none of those first responders -- nobody gives a hoot whether you're a democrat or a republican." while there-- the president also met with the families of slain baton rouge police officers... and alton sterling. on the west coast - the wildfire that charred more than 36-thousand acres and destroyed dozens of homes... is now 100-percent contained. fire officials say it took one
