suspect armed with a handgun fired at them. this happened near 27th and ruby shortly before 10:30 p-m after the suspect fired the shots, an officer returned fire. no one was hit ...no officers were injured the suspect took off running...and after a brief foot chase a 23 year old man from milwaukee was arrested a spokesperson for the police department says the suspect has an arrest record with them. his name has not been released. the case now goes to the milwaukee county district attorney's office... they'll review it and decide on charges. corinthios fox6 news. three families are displaced after an apartment fire in south milwaukee. fire crews were called out to 13th and manis-tique for a kitchen fire. the red cross is assisting ten people. no word on how much damage was done by the fire. two people are recovering after a crash in milwaukee. we're told three vehicles were involved in the accident at 6th and oklahoma, just before 8:30 last

one of the cars-- and had to be extricated. it's unclear how severe the injuries are at this time...or what caused the crash. and in franklin - two motorcycles crashed into each other. it happened last night near 76th and ryan road. we're told one person was taken to the hospital...and is expected to survive. the other - apparently took off from the scene...and police are still searching for the person. brendan dassey will appellate court made the decision yesterday. this-- until they can review his case. reaction is pouring in... including from his hometown of mishicot. our ben handelman has the story. brendan dassey will not be leaving this prison in portage this week. the 7th circuit court of appeals in chicago, overruling a lower court's decision to free dassey, as the state appeals. prosecutors are fighting a ruling that tossed dassey's convction in august

the changing decisions have come so fast--- in dassey's hometown of mishicot, newspaper headlines are outdated. in this small village-- brendan really got coexed into a lot of things. there is a sense of disapointment. that's wrong. it's like picking up mud and picking it up at a wall and seeing what is going to stick. the case-- the people that come in here do not think he should be in there. is the talk of the town in the busineeses dw property where dassey and his uncle steven avery once lived. i just think they are getting his hopes up. they should let him out. while they back dassey--- most we talked to don't feel the same about stephen avery. a lot of people think he should be free do to that making a mjrudere. it's not necessarily a documentary as much as it is pushing informative. with this story not

right. will keep talking. a woman is accusing the milwaukee county sheriff and his staff of mistreatment that caused the death of her newborn baby inside a jail cell. 30-year-old sha-de sway-zer was arrested when she was 8- and -half months pregnant...after she got into an altercation with police. prior to being booked into the county jail she was taken to a local hospital for examination. her attorney claims her pregnancy was time. she was placed in a maximum security unit. her attorney says when she alerted guards that she was in labor nothing was done. she claims she was forced to have the baby inside her cell-- and within hours it died. "she's very depressed. she's distraught. i've never seen anybody break down that emotionally as she went through the story." the medical examiner has not determined whether the baby was born alive or

for comment, but haven't heard back. the county's corporation counsel office tells us it does have a copy of the claim. ...an argument along a rail road track has a horrific ending. mukwonago police say a man pushed his girlfriend to the ground... moments before a train passed-- leaving her with devastating injuries. it happened monday night, off county highway n-n. according to a criminal complaint, 22-year-old brandon calkins the victim's mother told police she believed her daughter lost consciousness-- and was eventually run over by the train. the victim's arm was amputated. calkins was charged with three misdemeanors and only faces months behind bars. it sends is anybody can commit an egregious act of violence and potentially not be held accountable for it. it's unclear exactly why the

due back in court next week. ...new information about an armed robbery at a cricket wireless store in west allis. the search continues for suspects...but police have released new surveillance video of the incident. investigators tell fox 6 the man showed either a sawed-off shotgun, or a short-barreled long gun, and demanded money. a customer apprarently stepped-in, and was shot, in the arm. he's expected to be okay. but police say they need your help. were hoping that somebody along, or working in one of the businesses that was open, might have seen something. the suspect is described as an african american male, in his late teens, or early 20s. he was wearing a black hoodie with some sort of red logo on the front, along with dark jeans, and tan boots. if you have any information which may help investigators, youre encouraged to contact west allis police. one woman is dead and several others injured after a shooting in

woman is dead -- and several injured after shots are fired at a toddler's birthday party in tennessee. police say they are still searching for three shooters. the violence broke out late thursday in the town of dyersburg. the ages of the people shot range in age from 6 to 32. the victims were on the front porch when the shots were fired. police continue to investigate. we're learning more about the man who allegedly shot and employee at an oklahoma city airport this week. the gunman used a military style rifle...and had served in the military in the past. lloyd buie was a southwest employee from 1999 to 20-15.he quit after refusing an alcohol test. on tuesday-- he killed michael winchester. buie's pickup was found in the parking garage hours after the shooting.the medical examiner

series has shown how prescription drug use often leads to heroin--and death. wisconsin attorney general brad schimel has led the fight against opioid abuse. he points to drug take-back events and law enforcement's use of "narcan" as tools in his fight. should he be adding another? our ted perry has more on the politics of pot. s her real name--goes out to the front bushes of her milwaukee home and smokes a joint. i would like not to have to sneak it ...and for other people to understand. she knows she's breaking the law. she also knows she needs the relief. the major problem was major intestinal blockage... a series of surgeries last year left her in a great deal of pain--unable to work. concerned about "madelyn" getting too dependent on prescription pain killers...she had reason to be--opiod addiction is an epidemic in wisconsin--and fighting that addiction is priority one for the state's republican attorney general brad schimel. it's absolutely devastating..there's no bigger public safety crisis and it's driving everything..robbery.. burglarly. schimel has a lot of tools in his fight against opiod abuse. medical interest in adding. so why start them off on another drug that can lead them down that path...it doesn't make sense. but it does-apparently make sense to 28 other states that have approved some form of medical marijuana use-that voted just last week to allow the medicinal use of pot. wisconsin..this will have to be fought at the state capitol...and leading the charge is a mother of four...who's never even tried pot. i'm not someone who's ever used marijuna...i was raised in the dare system. when she was first elected in 2010 from a very democratic district in madison, state representative mellsa sergeant never planned on being the flag bearer for legalizing pot but advocate for it. i came to realize after some thoughtful conversations that the most dangerous thing about mj is the way we're treating it now. republicans--she says--would be smart to get on board simply from a financial perspective. in a state where my colleagues keep saying we're broke.... the department of revenue estimates that state could make 22-million million dollars by legalizing

year alone--triple that in year two. why not do this in a way where we can have compassion centers..licensed by the state of wisconsin..where people know what's in the product..where it's labeled. schimel--citing a lack of support from the american medical association and the f-d-a-- is far from convinced. is there anything that could convince you that medical mj is the way to go for pain relief..is the way to go. id want to community supporting that and we don't have that right now. meanwhile madeline..a grandmother is back at work full- time--and easing her physical pain with a product nowhere close to being legal in her home state. i'm doing it for a reason and it's helping. we've certainly not made her public enemy number one..we should not treat her as a criminal. i'm sorry...it's not fair..and i'm working

mph a 23-year-old man is under arrest...after firing shots at milwaukee police. it happened on the city's northwest side. our deandra corinthios has more from district five. milwaukee police know who this guy is... they say the suspect has an arrest record with them... officers were responding to a burglary in progress when they

ruby. it was about 10:30 p-m and milwaukee police officers arrived in the area for a burglary in progress call when a suspect armed with a handgun fired shots at them. one of the police officers fired back...but no one was struck. the suspect fled the scene on foot and officers ran after him... after a brief foot chase the 23 year old man was arrested. the case is now in the hands of the milwaukee county district attorney's office. milwaukee police tell us no officers were injured. reporting in fox6 news. brendan dassey could have walked out of prison a free man today --- but he'll remain behind bars pending the outcome of the appeal. dassey's conviction for his role in the rape and murder of teresa halbach was thrown out in august. the 7th circuit court of appeals in chicago will now decide whether to uphold that ruling. in dassey's hometown of mishicot, many are disappointed by the ruling. while many here tell us

distraught. i've never seen anybody break down that emotionally as she went through the story." --the emotions attorney jason jankowski says his client-- 30-year-old shade swayzer has been going through since the loss of her child over the summer. on july 6 2016, she was arrested after an altercation with police. she was eight and a half months pregnant. prior to being booked into the county jail she was taken to a local hospital for examination. her attorney progressing normally at the time. despite this and a history of mental illness, swayzer was placed inside the maximum security unit also known as the special needs unit. she alleges she was given prenatal vitamins only once and for days received zero medical attention. then on midnight of july 14th, she went into labor. she says she tried to alert guards that her water broke and was 'laughed' at. she went into labor inside her cell. she says her child was alive long enough for her to breast feed, but later died.

birth. the medical examiner has not ruled if the child was a still born or not. jankowski says hes tried to obtain documents from the sheriffs office but his requests have gone unanswered. the led police here monday night. nats officers discovered a woman badly injured. her head on the tracks-- "her left arm was amputated." according to a criminal complaint, the woman was left here by her boyfriend 22-year-old brandon calkins. police say calkins pushed his girlfriend to the ground following an argument. the victim's mother told police she believed her daughter "struck her head on a metal rail" causing her to "lose consciousness" falling on the track by the train." 20:06 it's jarring. angela mancuso runs the waukesha women's center and is not associated with this case. but is stunned by the details. 19:41 i had a physical reaction. i mean, when you read about it, or hear about it, it's frightening. police say when calkins was arrested he became aggressive. he faces three misdemeanor charges. if convicted, he faces
