intensive care unit and 28 have died of the disease. 6:32. as the fighting rages in afghanistan, the debate over strategy heats up on capitol hill. >> there could be more heat for a plant after a deadly weekend. kathy park has the latest. >> the a massive attack this weekend increases the pressure on president obama's administration and his strategy in afghanistan. officials are divided on whether to send in more troops or scale back. hundreds of insurgents armed with rifles and grenades stormed this outpost. eight u.s. soldiers were killed, the deadliest attack in more than a year. this is fueling the debate of the direction of this war.

strategy in afghanistan. kathy park, abc 7 news. >> thank you. cleanup continues in the south pacific. villagers gathered to mourn the dead. at least 176 people were killed. hundreds of responders are now on the ground including fema and the american red cross. they're transporting medical supplies. heavy rains triggered another landslide in indonesia. the search has been called off for the hundreds still missing from wednesday's earthquake. that death toll is now at 1100. metro is losing millions because fewer people are taking public transportation. trent ridership wasdown nearly 4% in july.

the red line has seen -- the scene of the deadly train crash, saw the biggest drop, more than 10% in july and more than 80% in august. metro could lose over $22 million in revenue if the pace continues. trains have been running slower between the takoma and fort totten stations since the june crash. metro pushed the date back to early september to fix the rails. they say the work is taking longer than expected. 39 people arrested are expected back in federal court today. the suspects have all pleaded not guilty. prosecutors say they paid more than $300,000 in bribes to get cab licenses. the chief of staff for jim graham has already pleaded not

guilty to charges of taking bribes to influence legislation. graham is not been accused of any wrongdoing. this year's army race is being called a big success. >> wounded warriors took place yesterday. soldiers who lost limb joints nearly 30,000 others ran through the streets of arlington and the district. during them was a soldier who was blinded while serving on the front lines in iraq. >> i think about how fortunate i am to still be able to run. i have not felt pain and it lets me know i'm still alive. >> he completed his third race in 84 minutes. there were other shall races in the rock in afghanistan. ken lewis is out.

now bank of america is looking for a new leader. >> linda bell joins us now. bank of america colorado ken lewis has put the bank back in the spotlight. we hear the plan to make a decision on the appointment of an emergency ceo this week. they are working on a contingency plan in case ken lewis steps down before the end of the year. the bank did not name a replacement after ken lewis said last week he was stepping down. stock index futures are higher ahead of a report that may show the services industry stabilized last month. simmons bedding will soon file for bankruptcy protection. the bnkruptcy move is part of an agreement by owners to sell
