>> reporter: the wulresults wer decidedly mixed. the opening bell on wall street rang on time. trains ran on time. and traffic flowed across the brooklyn bridge as it always does. for abc news in new york, jim dolan. >> very interesting. not limited to new york city. across the country, even in l.a., a similar kind of scene out there. there were dozens of arrests. police ultimately did not close the encampment based around l.a. city hall there. again the situation is nationwide. the day of action. as they called it. >> the message, i hope is going to get more refined and cohesive as protests go on. they seem to be -- some what cohesive. >> then we heard reports here in new york some protestors were throwing cigarette butts, feces, vinegar in the eyes of cops. the message gets lost in some of the melee. they say they're not going anywhere. the story ain't over. sound like a terrifying nightmare. all too real for three teenagers

in oklahoma. the girls became stuck in an elevator shaft at their middle school all by accident. that's when the elevator began descending towards them. came within inches of death. classmates said their screams could be heard throughout the school. here's a listen at the 911 call. >> oh, my god. oh, my god. >> we are trapped in an elevator at the high school. >> okay. okay. >> we're trapped in an elevator. please help us, now. >> it took 45 minutes for the girls to be rescued. during the agonizing moments they were on their backs with the elevator literally pressing on top of them. >> terrifying. well a florida sheriff's deputy trying to negotiate with a barricaded man turned to facebook to end the standoff. corporal arthur morrison said the man locked himself inside a shed after arguing with his wife. the man had no phone but did have a computer. morrison tried something unusual. he sent a message from his personal facebook page.

movement went on the move. >> the protestors so-called day of action turns to mayhem, arrest and inconvenience coast to coast. it's friday, november 18th. >> good morning, everybody. i'm rob nelson. >> happy friday, i'm sunny hostin. >> yes, indeed. >> the occupy wall street movement marked its two month anniversary by blocking traffic attempting to shut down new york's financial center. while everyone understands the protestors' anger does everyone understand their message. >> disturbing details -- some protestors threw cigarettes, feces at the cops. got really nasty. you wonder if the violence overshadowing the message. also this morning, attention passengers, the pilot is stuck in the restroom and he can't get out. sound look a comedy sketch. when it happened on a delta flight it really was no laughing matter. real serious security situation. >> exactly. i want my pilot in the cockpit.

>> that's right. >> later this half-hour, famous actress natalie wood and her mysterious death nearly 30 years ago. homicide investigators announced they're reopening their investigation. >> what a staggering hollywood mystery. all these years later reopening the case. should be very interesting. before we get to all that, occupy protestors across the country have flexed their muscle shutting down streets and tying up traffic. >> that's right. hundreds were arrested. now the question becomes what's next? abc's t.j. winick here in new york. good morning, t.j. >> reporter: good morning, rob, sunny. behind me in zuccotti park, original occupy wall street protestors began camping out two months ago. they were e vktvicted tuesday morning by the city but by thursday back and out in force. occupy wall street became a protest movement literally as demonstrators marched in force downtown. >> this is a channelling of

discontent. it an opportunity to allow people to -- to think about the issues being raised. >> reporter: they tried to halt traffic on the brooklyn bridge, where police met them in heavy gear, and heavy numbers. 99 protestors with t-shirts saying 99%, volunteered to be arrested. police obliged. >> i have always been poor. this is where i come from. this is my neighborhood. always affected me. we deserve equality in everything. and we deser off to get paid. >> reporter: demonstrators were closing in on the stock exchange, still determined after two months. >> i am here to sthut down wall street. >> reporter: police barred their way and arrested dozens. >> a better today. a better future. worth every second. >> reporter: violence flared when a police officer was hit by a bottle and needed 23 stitches. police and demonstrators shoved one another around metal

barricades. this man had his head bloodied after knocking off a policeman's cap. occupy movements, marked two months of protests. authorities citing hygiene and public safety have been shutting down some encampments. at his press conference, mayor michael bloomberg said far fewer than tens of thousand of protestors expected thursday actually shoewed up. and the impact was minimal. rob, sunny. >> protestors expressed anger in los angeles as well. police arrested dozens of protestors after two marches. one organized by the occupy wall street group, the other by union members. police did not move on an occupy wall street encampment near los angeles city hall. police on the campus of uc-berkeley standing guard on the spot where a tent city stood until thursday morning. police in riot gear and bulldozer moved unto clear occupy wall street protestors. as many as 4,000 people had protested there earlier in the week. >> amazing to see how widespread it is. throughout the country.

but still the issue of what the goal is here, what their main message is. >> what the demand are. >> reporters, dan harris, said what is the concrete message what do you want people to know? the answers were all over the board tucht board. to me. a telling flaw of the protest. >> i agrecht need to be cohesive in terms of message. i'm impress sewed many young people are involved. a lot of students are involved. and they did organize the protests in different cities. so there is some sort of -- >> it's there. they have good points. a matter of tunnelling it. these are our demands. something along the line. good to see for a country that can be politically apathetic, people are riled up. switch gears now to talk about penn state where even more young men have now come forward to say they were victimized by former coach, jerry sandusky. abc news has learned that a ninth alleged victim has been presented to the attorney general's office. a local attorney who represents

one of the original eight accusers has presented this latest complaint. investigators predict even more in the cupping days. >> when sandusky gave an interview -- in which he denied abuse -- that was a real trigger for the survivors. >> i can't imagine any reason to allow a defendant at this point who is charged with violent sexual acts against young boys to roam the streets free. >> there are reports the number off linged victims could soar to 100 when all is said and done. we could learn more when acting athletic director at penn state speaks to reporters. >> now another college sports shocker. this one from syracuse university. espn reporting assistant basketball coach, bernie fine has been suspended. a 39-year-old man claims molested him in the 80s and 90s when he was a ball boy.

he told police in 2003 but was told too much time-lapsed. investigated at the time they found no proof. >> good to hear they investigated the case at the time. >> and are doing so again. >> we are learning more about the man charged with firing bullets at the white house trying to assassinate president obama. oscar romero ortego hernandez charged with trying to assassinate the president. the idaho man thought he was jesus and the president was the antichrist. at one point he suggested to an acquaintance that president obama was planning to implant computer tracking chips into children. president obama was on the road through all of that. last night he arrived in indonesia for a summit of east asian nations. this morning he made a major announcement that secretary of state hillary clinton will visit myanmar, the first such visit in half a century. mr. obama says myanmar's military regime is showing what he calls, flickers of progress.

>> the story everyone is talking about. did you hear about the one, the pilot, who got locked inside the bathroom of an airplane? sound like a joke. but when the situation turned out to be very real it led to a terror scare and emergency landing. abc's lisa stark has the details. >> reporter: the military jets were ready to scramble. the airport on alert. after an ominous radio call from delta flight 6132. at 10,000 feet and approaching la guardia. the captain was missing. and a passenger was trying to get into the cockpit. >> the captain has disappeared in the back. i have some one with a thick foreign accent trying to access the cockpit. >> reporter: the airlines which operates the original flight for delta, says when the plane was put into a holding pattern over new york the captain went to use the bathroom. the airline says its security protocol requis two people in the cockpit at all times. the one flight attendant on board went inside and locked the

door. then things got strange. the captain got trapped in the bathroom, a jammed door.roused 14 passengers and gave him the cockpit password so he could get help. >> i am not surprised the captain would give the passenger a code. astounded. >> the first officer was shocked too. >> stuck in the lab. some one with a thick foreign accent is giving me the code to access the cockpit. >> end of the day an unknown person and unknown voice trying to access the cockpit. >> you don't open the door. >> you don't open the door. >> the flight attendant came out of the cockpit and was able to free the captain. >> the captain, myself, went back to the lavatory. and the door, latch broke and had to -- there is no issue, no threat. >> the airline says no one was ever in danger the clearly this raises some question as but whether procedure maze need to be changed so that a bathroom

as you know the story goes way beyond new york. hundreds of protestors marched through chicago's downtown streets and rallied along a chicago river bridge and stopped traffic, for an hour and a half. sorry, half an hour. 46 people sat down on the span. police led them away without handcuffing them. it issued citations and eventually let them go. on top of that. protestors in seattle marched in the rain and freezing temperatures, gathered at university bridge at rush hour to call for more government funding for infrastructure projects. police escorted protestors away and surprisingly there were no arrests. >> it seems that the protestor are rather organized. what is the message? we know abc's dan harris interviewed protestors and asked what their concrete message is. answers were all over the place. >> in his report he showed a number of signs in terms of what people were protesting against varied from one thing to
