defense laid out their case. we could learn new details in this highly publicized case. former penn state assistant football coach jerry sandusky will head back troops a pennsylvania court house this morning as opening statements get underway in the 68-year- old's trial. is accused of sexually abusing 10 boys over a 15-year period allegations he denies. >> the allegations are false. i did not do those things. >> half of the jury have ties to penn state, including a, includingwho senior student who works in the athletic department. another woman is married to a man with ties to mike mcqueary, the person who witnessed sandusky abusing a boy in the shower. >> this is not done. when you choose a jury, you try to make sure there are no ties. >> dusandusky met his

assault with intent to kill. he already has a long criminal record. when this red jeep doused with gasoline ended up smashed into a building just four blocks from the white house, it was no accident. >> it looks like he drove into the building intentionally. >> police believed the 32-year- old got out and try to ignite the jeep with a lighter. no one other than him was hurt. >> i thought, why would he do that? >> he has been arrested in the past for fraud, assault, theft, drug charges, and third degree sex offense. his neighbors in new market maryland say markethe and his girlfriend had a rocky relationship. she filed a restraining order just hours before the vehicle was used as a potentially deadly weapon. >> i hope that he goes away for a long time, because he is disturbed. i hope never comes back to this neighborhood. >> it is a miracle no one else was injured inside the 12-story

looks good in and out of the beltway. no worries at university boulevard. back inside. >> we will start with the child sex abuse scandal at penn state. opening statements begin in the trial of former assistant coach jerry sandusky. we're learning more about the jurors who will decide his fate. brianne carter explains. let's opening statements in the trial are expected to get under way in a matter of hours. we could learn new details as his lawyers and the prosecution laid out their case. sandusky is accused of sexually abusing 10 boys over a 10-year -- over a 15-year period. he met the alleged victims at a charity that he founded for disadvantaged children. the jury is made up of seven women and five men. many of them have ties to penn state. among the 12, a senior student who works at the university athletic department.

and a professor. another juror's husband has ties to former assistant coach mike mcqueary's father. mike mcqueary is the one who allegedly saw sandusky abusing a boy in the shower. more than 100 witnesses could be called. a spokesman for the widow and son of joe paterno says the two are not expected to take the stand. we are expecting this trial to last about three weeks. reporting live, brianne carter,. abc, >> a former manassas teacher's assistant accused of sexually abusing students is expected to plead guilty to some of the charges against him today. stefon christian turned himself in after a former student said that he was abused at baldwin

elementary school. more victims came forward after he was arrested. >> bharat patel had opened the dunkin' donuts franchise last week in reston. police found his body early saturday morning and this apartment complex. earlier, someone had called 911 to report a fight. officers found the body lying in bush's neighbors. are stunned. >> it is too close to home. i just signed a new lease and wish i had not now. i don't know. the world is going crazy. >> police released a composite sketch of a man they believe is responsible for the death. if you have the information, call fairfax county police. >> a traffic alert in northwest washington. in less than two hours work will begin to overhaul u street between ninth street and 14th street. jummy olabanji is live in the

area with details on this extensive project. it is in the works? >> this project is one to take about a year. during this time, ddot officials will rehab the streets, including lights, sidewalks, and the landscape around this area. that could mean some traffic problems for those driving and walking along the u street corridor. officials say the construction will start at 7:00 in the morning and last until 7:00 tonight monday through saturday, witbut there could be were done on sundays as well. there are many businesses in this area that are worried the traffic with construction will impact their business. ddot officials say they're hoping that will not happen. they say the construction will take place block by block and they will not go on to the next block until the construction is completed on the previous block. there will be parking spaces
