this morning on "world news now," deadly crash. a train packed with hundreds of commuters leaving new york city slammed in to an suv on the tracks. numerous fatalities. several more injured. as investigators try to put together what happened. a passenger that ran passed me had blood on his face. >> we have the very latest f from the scene. fighting back, just hours after isis released video of the gruesome murder of a jordanian pilot. two militants have been executed by jordan's government. the king delivering on his promise as he met with the president. >> just one more indication of the viciousness and barbarity of this organization. >> how the middle east is responding to this fast-developing story this morning. disgrais graced cyclist

lance armstrong back in hot water. cited for a hit and run accident. how he tried to fool police letting his girlfriend to take the blame to avoid the controversy. it is wednesday. >> announcer: from abc news this is "world news now." a very good morning to you. i'm reena ninan. >> i'm t.j. holmes. we have a lot of breaking news to get to. let's jump in. begin with the deadly rush hour crash between a commuter train and suv. >> the collision setting off an explosion and fire killing at least seven people. the train still sitting on the tracks this morning. you can see the burned out car. first where the passengers died. this tak north of new york city. >> reporter: a horrifying scene just north of new york city. >> screaming, yelling. it was total panic. >> repor smoke and fire rise from a commuter train after it smashed in to a jeep cherokee stuck on the tracks. in this image, the names engulf

the vehicle and appear to cover half of the first train car. from behind the eerie orange light and huge plume of dark smoke sglibl a passenger that ran passed me had blood on his face and people were pulling the windows off trying to get out through the emergency windows. >> reporter: from above, you can see the massive response. flashing lights up and down the rail line as fire crews rushed in. when the smoke cleared, this is all that was left. scorched and mangled metal. the jeep cherokee all but crushed under the metro north plane. the injured had to be carried out of the front cars. passengers in the back had no idea how bad this was until they saw it for themselves. >> we went down ladders and walked out here and saw the smoke and smoke and flames inside the car. >> reporter: officials say the woman driving the jeep was trying to cross the tracks around 6:30 p.m. when the gates came down leaving her in the bath of the oncoming train. she died along with several

other passengers. the railroad confirms the train left grand central terminal 45 minutes earlier heading north. >> the third rail went completely through the entire front car of the train. it must have been an absolute horrific scene when that first happened. i am amazed that anyone got off that train. >> reporter: the evacuated survivors went to a nearby gym for shel the trip home cut tragically short. aaron -- abc news new york. >> we are keeping a close eye on that breaking story. meanwhile, another breaking story out of the middle east. jordan taking swift action following what is likely the most barbaric murder to date at the hands of isis. >> hours of the islamic state released a video showing a captured jordanian pilot burned alive, video abc is not showing, jordan fired back executing two convicted militants. abc's molly hunter is joining us on the phone from jerusalem. molly, good morning. >> reporter: response to the death of the pilot, jordan did

deliver. overnight hanging two iraqi prisoners, sajida al-rishawi and another man just before dawn. sajida al-rishawi has been at the forefront in recent weeks and isis demanded her release for a japanese journalist. in exchange the jordanians demanded they show proof of life for the pilot but isis never delivered. the deal fell apart and the japanese journalist was killed. sajida al-rishawi has been on death row since 2006 after confessing to her involvement in a 2005 al qaeda hotel bombing. but the other prisoner was a more high-value target thought to be more dangerous. later today, jordan's king abdullah does return early from a visit to washington and we expect him to thmpb. jordan state tv said thousands and thousands of people will be waiting for him in amman. reena and t.j. >> i'm pretty zur certain of that. it seemed like king abdullah didn't hesitate on the executions. why did they act so quickly?

>> you are right. jordan jordan didn't even blink when the video was released. jordan had to show they were strong and had to hit back. it will be a tense few weeks in jordan. security will be tightened and the country will be on high alert for any retaliation from isis. >> this particular tribe is the backbone of support for king abdullah. very important he acted immediately. as molly mentioned it will be interesting to see if this response is enough for the people in the area. >> king haven't a choice almost in this matter. had to react. we are staying on top of that breaking story and developments there. one braking story overnight and the video of this is incredible. the crash of a passenger plane in taiwan. you are seeing it there. nearly unbelievable images showing the plane with 58 people on board, clipping a bridge shortly after takeoff from taipei's downtown airport. at least eight people killed. the plane crashed in to a shallow river just a couple of

yards, dozen yards from the shore. rescuers in small boats were on the scene almost immediately bringing survivors to safety immediately. the plane was a turbo prop by transasia airlines. the carrier's second deadly crash in a year. back to weather. million s of americans bracing for the arrival of another brutal winter storm before most are finished digging out from the past couple. a dozen people have died because of the stormy weather. many others have been hospitalized including a wisconsin man who suffered cardiac arrest while shoveling his driveway. firefighters paramedics who rushed that man to the hospital went above and beyond the call of duty. they came back to his house, what did they do? they finished shoveling his driveway. the family is overwhelmed by their kindness and generousty. the fire chief says the hopes the idea of shoveling it forward catches on. another icy blast is taking

lot of pictures taken of the cockpit. when it is a clear day that is one thing. but at night time you need your vision to do that. and having flashes in there is almost a guarantee of trouble. >> no video from the doomed flight but a go pro camera found near the wreckage had video of the pilot taking selfies during previous flights the same night. a sharp jump in oil prices sparked a rally on wall street. the dow closed 305 points higher with chevron and exxon mobil leading the way. they hope oil prices are bouncing back after dropping 60% over the last several months. harper lee has written a sequel to her beloved "to kill a mockingbird" called "go set a watchman." it is a novel lee wrote in the 1950s and set aside. a 304-page book. her first newn print in 50 years. it soared to the top of the best seller list. it is set for release in july.

a bill aimed at reducing a suicide epidemic among military veterans is on the way to the president for his signature. the senate unanimously approved the bill yesterday. it is named after clay hunt a 26-year-old iraq and afghanistan veteran who killed himself in 2011. his mother called the bill's passage bittersweet since it is too late to help her son but will save the lives of others. some world war ii veterans were on capitol hill honored for their heroism. about 40 living members of the so-called devils brigade were there to receive the congressional gold medal. the devils bri grade was made of up americans and canadians. it was a precursor to today's special forces. the nickname stemmed from their tack tix and war record and included the capture of 30,000 prisoners. mcdonnell remarked some of their mission plans would have made james bond blush. anyone who watches game of thrones will know this guy if you see him.

lance armstrong now has a court date in aspen, colorado after cited for a hit and run. armstrong was driving an suv on icy roads after a late december party. he hit two parked cars and agreed to let his girlfriend take the blame to avoid controversy. he later acknowledged lying to police and that led to armstrong being cited for failure to report an accident. and for speeding. he is scheduled to appear in court on march 17th. >> so unlike lance to lie. so unlike him. surprised by that. rap mogul suge knight is waking up in a southern california hospital this morning being treated for chest pains. he was in court yesterday pleading not guilty to murder and three foale felony charges for an incident which he struck two men with his pickup truck last week. he complained of chest pains and was hospitalized and is due in court next monday. behaving badly, not celebrities but quickly gaining national notoriety. >> talking about mom and dad of

the year in the nation's capitol. they are facing child cruelty charges after locking two toddlers in a freezing car while they went to a wine tasting party. abc's jim avila with the story. >> reporter: this washington couple is avoiding reporters at a full run after their court appearance declining the opportunity to explain why they allegedly abandoned their 2 1/2-year-old girl wearing a coat with no hat or gloves screaming hysterically in the backseat of a car for nearly an hour. next to her year old brother in bare feet. the outside temperature, 35 degrees. while they sipped fine wine inside of a luxury restaurant tasting party. they shared a cab after pleading not guilty but now the kids aren't at their home in the swankiest of d.c. neighborhoods. child services has taken custody. the parents were sipping their wine more than a football field away from their car which is parked where that suv is. but they told the police when they came out that it was okay

collision involving one of the busiest commuter railroads. >> the charred remains on the tracks north of new york city this morning. six train passengers killed. the driver of the car hit by the train also died. abc's josh einiger is a at the scene. >> reporter: when the train finally stops, fire consumed the first car of the jam packed car to the southeast. passengers scrambled for safety. >> there was a passenger that ran past me. he had blood on his face and people were pulling the windows off, trying to get out through the emergency windows, screaming, yelling. it was total panic. >> reporter: the train at cruise speed crossing commerce street when officials say the driver of the cherokee tried to cross in front of it but didn't have enough time. >> obviously there was an explosion. people were trapped inside. multiple fatalities. >> everyday commute turned terrifying. >> the third rail went mpletely through the entire
