afghan capital leaves at least 80 people dead and more than 350 hundred others injured. afghan officials say a suicide car bomb went off right in the middle of rush hour traffic... destroying dozens of other cars nearby and shattering windows. the blast happened near several embassies and not far from the presidential palace in kabul. we've just learned some german embassy workers and an afghan security officer are among the dead. so far no group has claimed responsiblity for the bla

islamic state have staged similar attacks here before. right now at 5:xx we're also following breaking news in the war on terror. the russian military says it's warships in the mediterranean fired four cruise missiles early this morning at isis positions in syria. the strikes reportedly targeted militant positions east of the city of palmyra. russian officials say the u-s, turkey and israel were informed of the strikes in a quote "timely manner". breaking overnight.. an armed man at the orlando airport is now in custody after an hours long standoff. the airport was put on lockdown after someone reported hearing gunshots in a parking garage. the incident sent passengers scrambling for cover. police later said no shots were actually fired. authorities say they believe teh man was trying to committ suicide by cop. no one was hurt. developing now - an explosive device found in the middle of a montgomery county park. and police say it was made using materials we all have in our homes.. john gonzale

damage this morning. one of the hardest hit areas: frederick county, virginia. the storm rolled through around six last night. a tree crashed onto a mobile home. another tree damaged the roof of a home nearby. the strong winds knocked down power lines.. causing outages for half the community there. the power is now

but the worst may not be over. there's a marginal risk for severe storms in our area this afternoon. turning to sports.. bryce harper - back on the field as the nats played game two of their series in san francisco. before the game both harper and hunter strickland received their punishments from the mlb for their benches clearing brawl monday. harper getting a 4 game suspension. srtickland 6 - both are allowed to play as they appeal the decision. harper had a rough one last night. he went o for 5 with three strike outs. but the nationals won 6 to three. as i mentioned both harper and strickland are appealing their suspensions. the appeal process can take days so harper most likely will play the rest of the series against the giants. both players were also fined an undisclosed amount by the league. harper did not comment about the suspension before the game but nats skipper dusty baker did. you'll hear what he had to say coming up later in the hour.

the comedian is taking to social media this morning to apologize for a graphic photo. it was taken during a photoshoot with a celebraity photographer known for his shocking images. the gory photo shows her holding up a bloody severed head.. resembling president trump. the image quickly sparked outrage online. griffin, later apologized.. admitting she went too far.

a former trump white house staffer has now received a request for information from the house intelligence committee. boris epshteyn joins more than two dozen people who have now been contacted. epshteyn is a former white house communications official and current employee of sinclair broadcast group which owns this station. epshteyn's attorney says in a statement quote "like many others, mr. epshteyn has received a broad, preliminary request for information. this is a voluntary request. mr. epshteyn has not been subpoenaed nor do we anticipate that he will be."

this comes as former national security advisor michael flynn has now agreed to hand over business documents subpoenaed by the senate intelligence committee as part of it's own investigation. earlier, flynn had refused to cooperate with a broader subpoena that included his personal documents, citing his fifth amendment right against self-incrimination. flynn was forced to resign from the administration because of revelations that he had misrepresented his conversations with the russian ambassador to vice president pence. former naacp president ben jealous' will formally announce his candidacy for maryland governor. a news conference is scheduled for eleven this morning in baltimore. jealous -- a progressive democrat -- served as a surrogate for bernie sanders during the 2016 presidential campaign and has been a strong supporter of former president obama. now to an update from montgomery county. some of the money used to build the silver spring transit center is back in county hands. county executive ike leggett has announced a 25 million dollars settlement with designer parsons brinckerhoff. the center opened in 2015 - five years late and 50 million dollars over

returned to the field last night against the san francisco giants. bryce harper who was in the middle of the brawl with giants pitcher hunter strickland had a rough game last night. he went o for 5 with three strike outs. the only nats player in the starting line up without a hit. but his teamtes picked up on the slack - the nats win 6 to 3. harper probably had a lot on his mind after this.. we've all seen the video..harper and hunter strickland exchanging blows monday. both players were slapped with suspensions. harper getting 5 games - strickland 6. right now both players are appealing the decision and will be allowed to play as the process plays out. harper did not comment on the suspension but skipper dusy responded with some interesting comments. both players were fined an undisclosed
