the nursing home now claiming they called the office of the florida governor looking for help. and the controversy over this interpreter and what he was signing during the storm and the female thief asking to borrow a phone. the man chasing after her and she then drags him behind. good evening. it is great to have you with us on a friday night. we begin with the terror attack in london. the threat level raised at critical. the highest level. is another attack imminent? it comes after a bomb exploded during rush hour on a crowded subway car. passengers scrambling to get away describing the fireball they saw. first responders rushing to help and isis now claiming responsibility saying other devices are hidden on the trains. president trump's tweet and britain's prime minister did not think it was helpful. we begin with

london tonight. >> reporter: in london today, from every direction, first responders swarming to the scene of the rush hour attack. and tonight, all out manhunt for those who planted this smoldering bomb on the packed subway car. the home made explosive detonated at 8:20am, ruthlessly targeting passengers going to is work, children to school. >> literally within three seconds of putting your bag down, the doors just closing, we hear a loud explosion occur. >> i turned left and i saw the fireball surged toward my side. >> reporter: then, panic as people tried to escape. >> there was a woman underneath me, there was a lady saying i'm pregnant. this little boy his face got smacked into the step. there was just layers and layers of people screaming. >> people were just crushed and trampling each other, it was every man for themselves. >> reporter: on the platform, chaos, confusion. towards the back of the train, hushed passengers make their way

the tracks. outside, emergency responders tending to the injured. i saw one woman being wheeled out on a stretcher. her legs were quite badly burnt and wrapped up in plastic and her hairline looked quite charred. >> reporter: the police say the bomb didn't fully detonate, otherwise many could've died. as it is nearly 30 were injured. >> at this stage we are treating the matter as a terrorist-related incident. >> reporter: today's terror striking the heart of a middle class neighborhood. >> there was an attack where i live and that devastated me, and it makes us feel threatened of where we live. >> reporter: and tonight, police counter terrorism and mi5 special agents are now on a massive manhunt for those who set off that bomb. >> ian we know there are lots of cameras inside the subway. investigators have been poring over surveillance video? >> reporter: that's right david. hundreds of hours of surveillance video. they have als

media, tweets, film, any photographs to them as well so they can look for evidence. we are also hearing there are going to be extra armed police on the streets and the military deployed to key sites. the news that isis say they planted bombs across the city will surely people will sleepless likely tonight. >> thank you. the london attack triggering stepped up security at home. cities and states taking action coast to coast especially in heavily populated areas and t r tourist spots. linsey. >> reporter: good evening david. tonight the nypd says they are not taking any chances in the event of a copycat. unfortunately they know this drill well and once again beefing up security including bomb sniffing dogs, increased police presence. they say no direct threats to new york city but also monitoring intelligence and

vigilant. the governor calling for increased security at bridges, tunnels, area airports and mass transportation. new york city is of course not alone. the los angeles police department says they are also increasing security on buses, train and at major tourist attractions. d.c. police are telling riders to remain vigilant. >> thank you. i did mention president trump's tweet. here's what he sent this morning. another attack in london by a loser terrorist. these are sick and demented people in the sites of scotland yard. must be proactive. the tweet suggesting the suspects were in the sights of authorities in london. what did the prime minister of britain think of that tweet? george stephanopoulos asked her that today. >> the prime minister scheduled was upended by this attack today. i spoke with her right after she emerged from an emergency meeting with her counter terror team.

your counter terror team. what's the latest on what happened today? >> yes. well, we've had another terrorist attack in london on the london underground. cowardly attack. and it was a device that was obviously intended to cause significant harm. >> treating it as an act of terror right now. and president trump was up and tweeting this morning. he said that those behind this were in the sights of scotland yard. is that true? >> well, i don't think it's helpful for anyone to speculate on what is an ongoing investigation. the police and the security services are doing the work necessary to discover the full circumstances of this cowardly attack that's taken place, and to identify all those who are responsible. >> as you can see the prime minister not very thrilled with the president's tweet this morning, but right after our interview she did speak with president trump. he put in a call and he offered support for britain right now in the wake of the terrorist attack and sources here say they will continue to have a constructive relationship. david? >> thank you. getting reaction from britain's

a black men. extra police put on duty tonight. ross cuters and defense lawyers with different versions of what the surveillance video actually shows. alex perez from st. louis tonight. >>reporter: tonight demonstrators taking to the streets of downtown st. louis. blocking intersections and trying to shut down the highway. the tense demonstrations following the acquittal of former officer jason stockley, charged with killing anthony smith. >> moments after the verdict was read demonstrators took to the streets here, coming face to face with police officers. >> we feel like we're the little dog in the corner being kicked and kicked and kicked. at some point we're going to bite back. what do you want us to do? >> reporter: the december 2011 incident, caught on surveillance camera. officer stockley and his partner, after suspecting a drug deal, confront smith at this restaurant parking lot. police dashcam obtained by the

smith nearly running over the officers, and speeding off, until crashing into a telephone pole. that dashcam capturing the officers trying to ram smith. >> hit him right now. >> reporter: and stockley can be heard in the video saying -- >> [ bleep ]. >> stockley shooting smith five times. later testifying he saw smith with a gun. a firearm was recovered, but prosecutors argued stockley planted that weapon. video after the shooting shows stockley digging in to a bag in the backseat of his cruiser. after the not guilty verdict smith's family in disbelief. >> they were shocked. it was beyond speechless. >> i am confident that we presented sufficient evidence that beyond a

murder in the first degree. >> reporter: all this, happening not far from ferguson, where the death of michael brown triggered weeks of protests. brown's father, out with demonstrators today. >> a lot of people out here with different, different feelings. i pray for my city, man. >> and alex perez joins us live tonight. the judge ruled the evidence about the officer planting the gun was inconclusive? >> reporter: yeah. that's right david. the judge in his ruling says the video simply does not support that claim nor does it show it. in the ruling the judge goes on to say the officer, the evidence indicates, had reason to fear for his life. >> alex perez live from st. louis. next tonight here, jose is back up to being a hurricane tonight and will affect the east coast this weekend. the track shifting slightly closer to the coast. let's get to rob marciano who has been a very busy man late in this season. rob, unbelievable but here it

catch our breath. two new items way out in the atlantic. tropical depression number 14. a strong wave. more immediate concern is jose as a hurricane as you mentioned, 600 miles off the coast of north carolina. will be abreast of that coastline monday afternoon. can't say how strong the winds will be but the waves will be large. dangerous rip currents and we're still in beach season. this weekend folks going to the beaches need to know the waters could be dangerous. >> take the rip current seriously. we'll be watching this weekend. new developments in the nursing home horror where a number of residents died when the power went out after hurricane irma. a criminal investigation is under way and the nursing home saying it tried to reach the office of the florida governor several times. abc news' victor o'ken do from florida tonight. >> reporter: tonight, amid the outrage over these pictures, senior citizens rushed out of a sweltering nursing home, the owners of that nursing home are

company as soon as their air conditioning system went down on sunday at the height of the storm. but repair crews never showed up, even though they say they spoke with the utility company at least four more times. nursing home officials also claim they made multiple calls to state agencies including the governor's office. tonight the governor's spokesman confirms those calls to an office emergency cell phone, but insists, "at no time did the facility report that conditions had become dangerous or that the health and safety of their patients was at risk." the home wasn't evacuated until wednesday morning, when a nurse from the hospital just steps away grew concerned after a series of 911 calls. >> it kind of set off a red flag that something might be going on in the building. >> reporter: eight residents died, nearly 150 evacuated. today we spoke with carmen veroy. her parents libia and gabriel, both residents of that nursing home. and both survived. but she is shaken. >> you can't let people die like this, like animals. >> reporter: police today, scouring that nursing home

today, it is now a crime scene. >> david we reached out to the power company and they say they did register those calls from the nursing home but other facilities like hospitals were higher priorities. david. >> victim in florida for us again tonight. thank you. next this evening the death of an 18-year-old fraternity pledge at louisiana state university prompting the suspension of all greek life on campus. preliminary results of the autopsy are just in tonight and here's adrienne bankert now. >> reporter: tonight another tragic fraternity death. police investigating the death of 18-year-old freshman max gruver. >> hazing is unacceptable and will not be tolerated at lsu period. >> reporter: gruver brought to the hospital wednesday night. he later died. a preliminary autopsy today finding he had a highly elevated blood alcohol level and traces of thc in his system, the chemical found in marijuana along with swelling in the
