20th. the 325th day of the year, i'm jamie staton in this morning for amy coveno. we'll get to the top stories in a minute. first, chris jarzynka joins us with the weather. chris: it's drizzly out there, but that's the start of weather drama as we've got a line of rain that's ready to move on through and it's not going to end as rain by the time the day is all said and done. mentioned, starting off the morning as calm as a drizzly foggy morning can be. but we have some steady rain into the southern part of the state right now. you may notice off to the west that green is colored blue, where rain is changing to snow because we have a dramatic cooldown coming in, a blustery and colder afternoon. temperatures starting off the morning in the 40's, dropping into the 30's, and rain will change to snow and even accumulate in the northern and

the higher elevations. well, we'll narrow that down for you in a few minutes with your extended 9 forecast. jamie: it looks like some kind of sunday. thanks, chris very much. this just into the news room, manchester police are on the scene of a crash that happened before 5:00 this morning, 245 eddie road, a vehicle crashed into a utility pole and right now the road is closed and no word if anyone was injured. one person has tied after a trash on tilton, laconia road. one of the drivers had to be extricated with life threatening injuries. both were taken to the hospital where one passed away. laconia road near danger road, they reconstructed the scene. neither's name has been released. turning to new hampshire's drug

two people are one step closer to recovery as nashua's safe station program received its first clients, wmur's siobhan lopez has the story. >> nashua firefighters and their partners at amr are on the front lines in the fight against the opioid epidemic every day. troy, they responded to three overdoses in the city. while they were able to save each person using nor they hope people will reach out before it's too late. >> the people coming here, they know they need a change in thir lives. >> each is a designated safe station. anyone looking to be connected with a recovery. they saved their first. >> and a 20-year-old came with his dad.

program and they opened in may and six people have gotten help. >> it's a tool in the toolbox, the first step for these people to get clean. >> we're hoping with programs like this, we can make a difference. >> nashua had four deadly overdoses this month. first responders say the success of the program will come when people are ready to ask for help. >> they just d turn and they are ready to try and stop and that's when we want to catch these folks, that's the critical time, when they're ready for help. >> siobhan lopez, news 9. jamie: a massachusetts construction worker was killed after he was hit in the throat with a power saw. it happened in duxbury. when they arrived they found a 28-year-old man suffering from injuries.

occupational and safety is investigating. for granite staters having trouble paying their heating bills. the fuel assistance program helps vulnerable families in their homes. federal funds have already been released. so far about 14,000 homes have been approved to take part in this program. >> it's extremely important. last winter, we all know, we had a mild wi, be, for people who have fuel, it's only a partial payment so for them to manage it through the winter is important. the programs served more than 30,000 households last year. climate experts say that this

>> welcome back. folks. you're looking at a live shot of plymouth state where it's 41 degrees, it's not going to be that warm this time tomorrow. maybe even later today. i'll have your storm watch 9 forecast in a few minutes. >> all right, chris. an investigation is underway in nevada where four people were killed in a fiery air ambulance flight crash. the plane was taking a heart disease patient to a utah hospital when it crashed in a friday night. three crew members and the patient were killed. police say the plane experienced mechanical problems before crashing. now to a developing story out of india where at least 96 people are dead after part of a passenger train rolled off the tracks. officials say 14 train cars jumped the track at around 3 a.m. local time. trapping hundreds of people inside. more than 200 people were also injured in the accident.

responders missed a toddler, a toddler in the back seat after a serious car crash. officials say the three-year-old girl was in an suv that was involved in an accident monday. somehow, no one saw the girl who was thrown to the car's floorboard. she was later found by the towing company that took the s.u.v. to a junkyard. the three-year-old was later taken to the hospital. no word yet on her condition. some columbia university wrestlers are off the team after the school suspended them over lewd and racially insensitive text members. the group messages included alleged racial and homophobic slurs as well as about women. columbia would not say how many wrestlers are barred. the wrestlers called it inexcusable. a local woman says that age is only a number. the special class she's teaching and what inspired her.

day, 30's and 40's, north to south. here is what we've got going on. it's a stripe of rain, not particular will i-- particularly heavy, but it will private from south to north between now and 9:00 or 10:00 this morning. knots over here it is blue, in southern vermont, and our way in a lesser form, but the cold and blustery weather that acompanies it will be just as fierce. here we have not just snow, but lake effect snow over the milder lake waters, with snow in western new york. it's going to be a big snowfall for the adirondacks and the green mountains of ser month. for new hampshire lesser amounts, but pretty significant.

we work into thanksgiving. the downpours are moving through southern new hampshire, pivot to the north and that will change to snow in the higher terrain. windy and colder and temperatures starting off in the 30's and 40's to the north. the wind will make it feel colder by this afternoon and here is how the forecast shapes up. the coldest in the western part of the state and that's where we'll change to snow in the higher terrain. we may touch 50 drop in the afternoon. snow showers, lows in the 20's and 30's and even places like manchester, the sea coast could see a passing flurry although there i don't see significant accumulation potential. areas off to the north and west, we could see, one, two, possibly three inches of snow in elevations above 5,000 feet by tomorrow afternoon. speaking of tomorrow.

what, folks, your next five days isn't going to get a whole lot warmer. temperatures in the 30's to 40's, say goodbye to the 50's and 60's. one bright so spot on this, the next several days will be wednesday, the day before thanksgiving, decent travel not only here, but the entire northeast, looks like thanksgiving day itself could give way to light rain and snow showers, although i don't think that travel will be an issue and snow, no major accumulation, but there is a coastal storm that could spin up friday night and early saturday and time will tell on that forecast, confidence is low. >> which is a first for you. >> yeah. >> absolutely. >> i was watching college football, there was serious, michigan, virginia. >>. chris: a taste of that. not bad. jamie: and age is just a number

going to see. jamie: the firefighters say there's plumbing work and believe that maintenance may have caused that fire. this morning, hillsborough police need your help in identifying this man. they believe he's a suspect in a-- in skimming activities at an atm in hillsborough. a 67-year-old man is recovering after a tree fell on him barrington. he's med flighted. the man was cutting the tree down on franklin pierce highway when accident occurred. he may have suffered an internal head injuries. massachusetts are investigating after a body washed ashore in hall. someone was lying along the rocks on the beach, and later identified the man as 51-year-old douglas king of way mouth. investigators do not suspect

as they will be all day. you notice how much cooler it is off to the west. because that's where the cold air is coming from. it's a big, what we call a seasonal cold front. big, big changes. now, we have some steady rain and even a few embedded downpours. i was going to say thunderstorms, not quite. that's stretching through the seacoast area and up to the upper valley, south to north. off to the west you might moderate to heavy snow from the capital of of new york through bennington, vermont and that's going to shift to the east. heaviest of the snow will be in the adirondacks and the green mountains, but we will see some in our white mountains as well. good news, the storm moves by and it's going to take a long time to do so, rather tranquil weather, so the travelling should be ok.

western new hampshire. windy and cold and temperatures are falling. the futurecast showing a swirl of clouds and rain and that changes to snow on a very, very blustery westerly wind and in the north country, the white mountains, really into tuesday. what are we talking about in terms of snowfall? not much right now. it's off to the west. as we move the time forward, we are is going to start to accumulate and in western new hampshire, higher terrain, elevations above 1500 or 2000 feet we are going to see some significant snowfall. based on this, about two inches or so, some of the darker blue areas, indicate areas four or more, look what they're getting in the green mountains. over a foot in some of the higher terrain. even the northern and western

inches of snow by the time all is said and done. talk about maybe doing some skiing for this thanksgiving, it's certainly going to stay cold enough as we work into thanksgiving. overnight tonight, 20's and 30's, but the wind will make it feel at least 10 degrees colder. and here is your next five days, temperatures remaining during the day in the upper 30's and lower 40's. there's the decent travelling day on wednesday. perhaps some light preciti thursday, that lingers into friday. keeping close eye on the coastal storm could make things dramatic here by next saturday. right now though it appears to stay to the south. >> now, jason king and news 9 sports. >> the unh football team needed a win in maine to keep their playoff hopes alive and they got

when first responders arrived. they found a 28-year-old man suffering from serious injuries. the victim was taken to the hospital, but he did not survive. the occupational safety and health administration is investigating. it is getting colder outside and now help is available for granite staters for help with paying the heating bills. the assistance program helps vulnerable families and seniors heat their homes. this week it opened two weeks early because the federal funds have been approved to take part in that program. >> it's extremely important. last winter we know we had a mild winter. we never know from one year to the next how it's going to be. and for people who get fuel assistance it's only a partial payment, it's extremely important. >> the program served more than 35,000 households last year. >> with winter just around the corner, climatologists are

car crash. officials say the three-year-old girl was in an suv involved in an accident monday. somehow no one saw the girl who was thrown to the car's floorboard. she was later found by the towing company that took the suff s.u.v. to the junkyard. she was later taken to the hospital. no word on her condition. and some after racial slurs and crude comments about women and wouldn't say how many wrestlers are barred from competing. the team apologized in a letter calling the text inexcusable. still to come, a local woman is proving age is only a number. the special class she is teaching and what inspired her. it is 11 minutes past the hour, you are looking live at concord, where the sun is up, but we

through black friday and of course, what is for many of us, a four-day weekend, but it looks like it's going to be pretty, pretty chilly, this weather pattern change, may be for the duration. let's take a look at what's doing now with temperatures. this is the warmest we'll be all day. the coast, off to the west, it's colder. that's where the colder weather is coming from today. west to east, across the state. and that is where the precipitation is changing central and southeastern part of the state right now, up through the upper valley. it's changing over to snow and that's indicated by the blue shading and that's not too far away. it's moving into parts of southern vermont, the green mountains, it's been snowing for quite some night now. and that's headed our way as well. lake effect snow, an indication of how cold the upcoming air mass is going to be. no big storms and that means big news for the travel.

immediate west. for today, downpours early, changing to snow. now, the change to snow will be confined to the higher terrain, north and west and temperatures in the 40's as a snapshot this morning. coldest weather to the west and falling into the 30's and with the wind, it will feel at least 10 degrees colder than that. it's going to be a blustery snap in the face, you're stepping 0 ut this afternoon after. especially the way we we've been for the last several days. the snow showers continue north ap west in the higher terrain where there could be a one to three inch accumulation above 1500 or 2000 feet in elevation, blustery, cold weather. lows in the 20's and lower 30's, subtract about 10 degrees, it's going to feel colder than that. there are your temperatures, 20's, you notice the coldest weather still off to the west and mildest weather, if you will, 32 degrees, south and

this storm is going to get stuck over us for while so it's not intense, but there will be snow showers continuing with snow squalls in the north country and the white mountains and there, you could see a few inches for a total of 3 to 6 inches of snow and that's not going anywhereas we head toward the thanksgiving week because even though we have good travel coming up on wednesday, you notice the high temperatures never really climb much out of the upper 30's and lower 40's. lows in the 20's and 's could come in late in the day on thursday and it does not appear to be an impedence for travel. there's a going to be some drama, to the south. confidence on that is fairly low. jamie: the west travel out of those, the best day is the travel day wednesday. worked out well.

supermarkets brought food to doe naught for families at new horizons. more than 800 were given out at the pantry yesterday and more turkey and fixings will be given out on tuesday at new horizons. the community of keene came together to raise over 20,000 cans of food for a local food pantry this weekend. it's part of the 1,000 can in 1,000 minutes event. the group, moms on a mission, hosted the canned food drive at the community kitchen in keene. there was almost 23,000 cans. well done. now an update to a story, after a bench that was meant to spread kindness at the village school was vandalized and those who bought the buddy bench so they could sit and meet new friends, days after it was installed was discovered with vulgar drawings, so they're replacing it with a sturdier granite one.

50 out of the coast, they're not going to be seen for a time as a cold blast is getting ready to descend on new hampshire, as we move through the day. here is the steady band of rain, it's moving through your county in maine and it's cleared our seacoast and areas in concord and manchester. it's now moving through the lakes region. it's not going to be a drought buster, but we'll take what we can get. you notice that the coloring of the green mountains of vermont and that's because the rain changes to snow and there is a rapid dividing line, a very sharp cold front that will quickly turn our wind from the southeast to the west and quickly drop our temperatures from the 40's in through the 30's. the wind making it feel even colder. now, the actual storm center will slowly meander on through northern new england over the next couple of days. this is lake effect snow off to the west, an indicating of how

the accident. investigators in texas are trying to figure out how first responders missed a child in the back seat after a car crash. the three-year-old girl was involved in an accident and somehow no one saw the girl who was thrown to the floorboard. she was later found by the towing company that took the s.u.v. to a junkyard. the three-year-old was later taken to the hospital and no word yet on her condition. >> some columbia university wrestlers lewd and racially insensitive text messages, including alleged homophobic and racial slurs, as well as crude sexual comments about women. columbia would not say how many wrestlers are barred from competing. the team apologized in a letter calling the texts inexcusable. a local woman is perfecting age, well, it's only a number. she's teaching a special class and what inspired her to do it.

and i have the pleasure of telling you about the end of the mild weather. it's done, forget about it, go out this morning and enjoy it, even with the drizzle, fog and rain out there. if you like mild weather. if you like colder weather, oh, boy, do i have a forecast for you. we manage today hit 50 in portsmouth. we have a victory though because the temperatures are going to be dropping precipitously in the afternoon. we're into the 30's off to the north and 30's in keene. the cold weather is coming in almost due west to east. we rain moving through just north of the lakes region and white mountains that will continue to pivot through the next hour or so and then it's out of here. the actual front itself is now just about moving close to brattleboro, vermont. and you'll know when it comes through, the wind will shift and temperatures will drop for some time to come of the we're headed into the time of the year, mild

it's been snowing for hours in the bennington area and the lake effect snow, colder air moving over relatively mild lake water. and the snow won't be as concentrated into the granite state. good news, not much west of there, no organized systems. the travel time before thanksgiving should be ok and that does mean not just here in new england, but also throughout the ent downpours early, change to snow and that mainly in northern new hampshire. windy and colder in the afternoon. temperatures in the 40's near 50 early and those will drop into the 30's west and lower 40's east in the afternoon as any leftover rain changes to snow, primarily in the higher terrain in western and northern new hampshire. the wind is going to make it feel 10 degrees colder than the air temperatures will be this afternoon. overnight tonight. snow showers, mainly in western new hampshire an and northern

in the hospital this morning after a tree fell on him in barrington. these are images of him being med flighted from barrington yesterday morning. fire officials say the man was cutting a tree down on franklin pierce high school when the incident occurred. officials say he may have suffered an internal head injury. massachusetts police are investigating after a body washed ashore in hull yesterday. police received a report that someone was lying on theoc they later identified the man as 51-year-old douglas king of w waymouth. they do not suspect foul play. he was wearing a wet suit and a life jacket was found nearby. he was not wearing it at the time. president-elect donald trump in new jersey sitting down with one of his toughest critics, mitt romney.

so we're going to talk to my guest in a minute about that. first let's go to what happened since the report about dial-up and that is that there has been increased broadband and high speed in new hampshire, broadband increased most of the state to 95% and spent 75 million for expansion since 2008 and 7,100 miles of new fiber in 5,000 businesses. with me to talk about that ellen scarponi, senior economic development for fair point, welcome. >> thank you, nice to be here. fred: that 95%, clarify that. >> that's 95% of our territory, which is most of new hampshire. fred: which is most of new hampshire. >> yes. fred: that includes the technologies that broadband uses. >> that's only our technology for the 95%. fred: which is? >> which is our dsl for the purposes of this conversation, it was the dsl. fred: dsl, ok.

over the territory from verizon to 95. fred: 63% to 95%. that's significant. >> it is. fred: what do the colors mean on the map? this is broadband happen, what do the colors mean? the pinkish is 25 meg or more for a download speed and yellowish is 6 meg up to 25 meg. it maps all the technology, this is not look at all of this technology. fred: the blue are the gaps where there's a need for high speed. >> where there are residences that are gaps. fred: what's key to this map, ellen, to me, we can come off the map now, is that the two areas in new hampshire i remember from years ago that will the lowest speeds was the monadnock region and the north country. you've done something about

hampshire so that your government, your businesses, your education, health care, libraries, your schools, can all have this high speed internet now and people didn't know about it. we want them to know about it. fred: things that always haven't been smooth sailing in the past few years since you took over from verizon. there have been service disruptions, especially three-state disruption a few years ago, in maine, new hampshire, and vermont where you lost the internet. t again? >> we have built our network to be resilient and there are diverse routes now that weren't in place a couple of years ago. so i can tell you that if your service goes down in one place, it will be rerouted to another place. that's always been the case with our voice network and now it's the case with our broad band. >> you're going to continue to deploy more broad band. >> we absolutely are, we're doing everything in our power to get broad band to the last mile.

you can see that we have a strip of rain moving through the white mountains, ready to move into the north country, and gorham and berlin, points to the north. chatham, pittsburgh, it's pretty much out of here, hour, hour and a half. notice off to the west, it's not green on the map, it's blue. that's because it's not rain falling from the sky, but it's snow. a big swirling storm system, the leading edge of the cold air is pivoting in right now as we spearo just now entering through the western part of the state and the monadnock region. the concentration of the snow is going to let up as it moves across new hampshire and it will have an impact. what you're seeing farther to the west is lake effect snow and cold air moving in over wilder, unfrozen waters, great lake waters. good news after that, it's pretty quiet. it's going to be cold for this week, but it looks like travelling before the thanksgiving holiday shouldn't be all that bad. at least not weather-wise.

to snow in western new hampshire. going to tell you where in a second. windy and colder this afternoon, 30's by this afternoon and the wind will make it feel 10 degrees colder. and here is what our futurecast looks like as we roll through this afternoon, changing over to blue. now, it's not nearly as concentrated in new hampshire as it will be across the green mountains of vermont and the adirondacks where they could see one to two feet of snow. through new hampshire is going to get some. let's roll that and what we're expecting. rain changing to snow this afternoon. higher through the sunapee area, two to perhaps three or four inches as we roll through monday afternoon. it's the foot plus off to the west, but it is the spine of the white mountains, especially areas in northern and western, facing slopes where that wind is literally going to slam into the mountains and rise and create a home grown snow event that we
