>> ♪ "action news." delaware valley's news program. with matt o'donnell, tamala edwards, karen rogers and meteorologist, david murphy. >> ♪ >> good morning, we are starting with breaking news this morning. a huge problem when it comes to your commute. you're taking a live look here sky6, 76 westbound at south street completely shut down. around 4 a.m. this morning a tractor-trailer jackknifed all those lanes are cut off and you can see already the headlights as the traffic backs up. there's no word yet on any injuries but again the traffic is stopped and it's not clear when those roads will be back opened. >> already a parking lot out there. it is 4:30 on this tuesday august 11th. >> let's go topher to -- nydia

han is here. she's in for matt. let's go to karen rogers taking a look at accuweather and matt pelman will give us the latest on the traffic. good morning to both of you. >> as you're standing in that backup there on the schuylkill you're dealing with the wet roads, the ponding, the flooding and that's wyoming we have a flood advisory for areas you see highlighted in green. this is only until 7:45 in the morning but we had rain moving through and it's become steady enough that we're seeing ponding on the roadway and that's enough to cause flooding in poor drainage area. we really need the rain. we're not talking about river flooding. we're talking about areas that aren't draining well. the rain is coming down steadily in those spots. storm tracker6 double scan shows that the heaviest rain, this is the area of yellow is already leaving the city of philadelphia. we see it lifting out to the east-northeast at this point. in its wake we're seeing these spotty showers. it is a wet morning commute but looks like that heaviest of rain already lifting through. let's take a wider look at storm tracker6 live double scan. we're not exactly done with this system yet.

throughout the day today we have the chance to see these showers and especially later on the chance for a thunderstorm coming through as well and it could be a gusty thunderstorm at that. satellite6 and action radar kind of showing this in motion how it moved in just as we had expected in the overnight hours with the timing being for the wet early start to your day at this point. so some showers and thunderstorms popping through especially later on this afternoon. 71 degrees right now in philadelphia, 70 in allentown, 70 degrees currently in millville. the dewpoint way up there. 68. feeling very humid. today our temperature will just top off at 82 degrees. we're watching for these showers and thunderstorms not raining constantly matt but enough early on that people are going to be driving with these wet roads or as you see standing still in the wet roads. >> exactly. it's not just raining, it's pouring out there this afternoon. i think i'm still a little wet when i came in spite my umbrella karen rogers and yes, we are standing still not getting anywhere at this point on the westbound side of the schuylkill expressway. i 76.

here's the tractor-trailer that jackknifed about a half hour ago now and it's blocking both westbound lanes. police have now arrived on the scene. we've got a tow truck as well. hopefully they can get the things straightened out. all these poor people are stuck not get anythingwhere on the westbound side of 76. your much better bet is going to be 95 northbound to the vine westbound or stay local on the city streets like south broad street northbound as an alternate. otherwise, speeds are down around the region. along 95 they're in the 40's instead of the normal 50's. same on the schuylkill expressway. if you're headed toward the schuylkill expressway on the roosevelt boulevard extension southbound watch out, there's a broken down suv. kind of just past the fox street on-ramp sticking out into the right lane. and some overnight construction in media is closing 252 between jackson and monroe streets but that, tam, should be cleared out in the next half hour. >> okay, thank you matt. and there was gunfire on a south philadelphia street overnight and when the bullets stopped, a man had been hurt and a number of cars had been

damaged. let's go over to "action news" reporter katherine scott. she's live on the scene in the 1500 block of colorado street. she's got more. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam t a 30-year-old man was shot several advertisements he remains at the hospital in stable condition. bullets went flying on this block in south philadelphia. you can see several cars were hit. there are flat tires, bullet holes in two vehicles here. this happened around 1:45 this morning in south philadelphia. police found shell casings on the 1500 block of south colorado and on the 1500 block of south 17th street. the 30-year-old man was struck in his arm and in both of his legs. around 30 shell casings were found. some bullets struck a lexus and a pontiac. you could see the bullet holes that pierced the cars, the tires. the victim was taken by private auto to pennsylvania hospital and later transferred to jefferson where he remains in stable condition. what led up to this shooting remains under investigation at this point. no arrests have been made.

but again, you can see that there is damage to vehicles here on the block and a 30-year-old man remains at the hospital in stable condition. live in south philadelphia, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." nydia. >> katherine thank you. developing overnight now, a man helped philadelphia police track down the woman he says shot him. the bullet went into his back and out his chest. the 28-year-old victim was shot near his ford suv on the 5400 block of holland street in lawncrest. the bullet ended up in the ashtray of the suv. a police officer took him to einstein medical center. the man gave police a description of the shooter. officers later took that suspect in for questioning. police told us overnight the victim was in surgery in critical condition. exclusively on "action news" surveillance video shows a drive by shooting outside a corner store in chester. a woman was struck by the gunfire last night at the neighbors mart and deli on the 2000 block of edgemont avenue. the victim ran inside the store. you see her there. people rushed to help. as she checks out badly, she's

wounded. she was transported to crozer chester hospital but her condition is not being released. police have not identified any suspects or said what prompted the drive by shooting. >> overnight there were more pro tests on the streets of ferguson missouri and it's a tense scene between protesters and police with some of the crowd throwing bottles. abc news reporter kenneth moton has more from washington, d.c. >> reporter: another night of unrest in the city of ferguson, missouri. officers stood shoulder to smolder riot gear on high alert overnight watching over protesters. saint louis county police say officers were hit with rocks and frozen water bottles as they worked to keep the peace during this state of emergency. police are trying to prevent a repeat of sunday night. dozens of shots fired, businesses looted. gun battles with officers in the streets. all on the anniversary of the fatal shooting of unarmed black 18-year-old michael brown at the hands of white police officer darren wilson

who was later cleared. >> unfortunately this has been marched, all the good work that has happened on both sides of the street, it's been marred by violence and that's why we have to be t-, it's unfortunate. >> reporter: it was a day of civil disobedience arrests made during demonstration that is blocked a busy i-70 expressway yesterday and scuffles at a protest at the federal courthouse people demanding justice for brown and now tyrone harris who was critically injured sunday night when police officers say they opened fire on the 18-year-old who shot at them first. his father, not so sure. >> he was on a outing, a peaceful outing and from what i heard, he was -- he was with some friends and the friends had confrontation and he just happened to just be at the wrong place at the wrong time. >> reporter: overnight no police officers were injured and at least two dozen people were arrested. kenneth moton, abc news, washington. >> a 12-year-old is recovering this morning after he was injured while playing in the

sand on the beach in surf city, new jersey. he was digging a hole yesterday afternoon when the sand caved in on him. lifeguards and bystanders were able to free him. we're told the boy was breathing and in stable condition when he was flown to a hospital. no word on what caused the sand to collapse. >> new this morning police need your help identifying the burglar who broke into a camden apartment in broad daylight. surveillance video from two weeks ago shows the area of 33rd street and westfield avenue. the burglar breaks in through a back window and later just walks out the front door. if you recognize the man you're asked to call camden police. meantime police in gloucester township are looking for the men who broke into three dunkin' donuts stores. early yesterday morning police say the men used a hammer to break the front door at one location on black horse pike. two hours later they entered another dunkin' donuts on white horse pike through the drive through window. they did the same thing at a store on aerial clementon road in pine hill. contact the gloucester township police if you think you know who these men are.

>> thrill seekers on the talon rollercoaster at dorney park got a thrill they didn't expect. officials tell us a warning light came on as the coaster approached a hill yesterday morning. because it was raining they decided to evacuate the ride rather than troubleshoot the problem on the tracks. an "action news" viewer sent us this video of passengers walking down the side to evacuate. no one was hurt. >> it's now 4:39 and coming up later on "action news" marine scientists are tracking a hammer head shark roaming along the jersey shore line. >> video from oregon captures the moment brave firefighters cut down a tree consumed with flames. karen. >> storm tracker6 live double scan showing we have some rain through the area. the areas of yellow indicating heavy rain. i'll show you when it comes out of here, what's coming up next in the accuweather forecast. >> ♪

>> new video this morning shows crews battling a wildfire in oregon. the firefighters say a lightning storm caused this fire in beautifuls. as crews sawed through a tree you can see flames shooting out the trunk. >> wow. rainy out there this morning. >> it is and in some spots it's coming down pretty hard, other spots light showers. it depends on location, location, location. let's help you out with storm tracker6 live double scan taking a look around the region and we can see some

areas of the yellow and that's when you get the heavier rain i want to go in closer to that right now because if you're out there driving along route 130 in burlington county you know you're getting hit by this and you've got that flooding on the roadway. that's why we have the flood advisory posted for the poor drainage areas many. jenkintown getting hit very hard. we see a little bit of yell indicating how strongly it's coming down. right here on the white horse pike you're just on the back edge of it. it's about to lift through route 70 right now if you're traveling through medford lakes. hammonton you're just in the tail end of the area of yellow. in the green it's still raining but not quite as heavily. as we look towards the west we can see what's coming up next and for awhile it looks like the heaviest rain is already pushing through the city. beyond that we have some showers here or there and it's not going to be quite as bad. take a wider look once again to get the sense of that. you certainly can see up nearly a town you've got areas of yellow about to hit you, near lancaster more areas that will be heading towards reading but certainly that steady rain is already pushing

through. let's take one more look down to the south. i don't want to forget you down there in dover, in cape may. you have some pockets of heavier rain coming through dover in fortescue and about to hit cape may if you're vacationing there so be careful about that. let's go outside. i want to show you what it looks like right now. we're not seeing lightning associated with this or even particularly strong winds just yet. i think that's going to come a little bit later on. right now we're looking at philadelphia international airport and you can see the wet run ways as you're heading out. that temperature 72. the dewpoints 68. way up there. you feel the humidity. and certainly moisture in the atmosphere with this rain coming down. the winds oft south at 11. the barometric pressure is falling right now. satellite6 and action radar showing how the rain moved right in place and although the steadiest is moving through right now we still have more beyond that and here's how it's going to look on future tracker six. we can advance this to 10 o'clock in the morning. we see some areas getting the areas of green, some showers. in other areas pockets of heavier rain. but we advance this to the afternoon. it gets kind of quiet. so it's really a day of book ends with showers in the

morning, some thunderstorms later in the day. so, at 1 o'clock we start to see some of these cells develop to the west. at 3:30 a little enhanced and we could see some gust city storms with this. look what happens as these storms leave the area at 8 o'clock at night. you can see some of them could be pretty strong. so we're watching for this most especially in the morning and later on in the afternoon. not raining constantly all day but just a chance for these showers and thunderstorms holding the temperature down to 70. the thunderstorms move out early tonight and then mostly cloudy skies. and what we are watching for is later on in the afternoon especially these storms will just be scattered later on instead of steady but lightning, downpours, pocket with that and the concern here is that we could see some strong winds that could be an issue. here's a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day. showers and thunderstorms, 82 in the morning, again in the afternoon. tomorrow clouds and sunshine, just a chance for a storm and 85. and then we look on thursday, we have partly sunny skies, a beautiful day and 85. it turns warmer on friday, 89. and a real summer weekend

>> ♪ >> i hope you don't have to be out this morning early. but if you do have to be out i really hope you don't plan on taking the westbound side of 76, the schuylkill expressway. little blurry. i know everything is a little blurry at this hour but they're focusing things and we can see a disabled tractor-trailer here on the westbound lanes approaching south street. the truck was jackknifed and they've been working to get it straightened out. yeah, it's still jackknifed right there in the westbound lanes of 76 approaching south street. no traffic has been getting by since about 4 o'clock. so, for 45 minutes these poor people have been stuck here in the westbound lanes. gun you want to avoid this like the plague. head for 95 northbound and the vine westbound or stay local through the city on perhaps northbound south broad street. all overnight construction luckily has cleared out along 95. coming south on the extension a broken down suv sticking out

into the lane. south broad and morris road. all the overnight work along the northeast extension is cleared. on the turnpike westbound in bucks county watch out for a zone near bensalem. that one is taking out the left lane. tam and nydia. >> thank you matt. we're learning more details about a story we first brought you yesterday morning. a woman drove her car into a home in northeast philadelphia. police now say the driver of the car, 34-year-old katherine ryan, of rhawnhurst has been charged with drunk driving. inside the house carmen adamo suffered only minor injuries but this really did cap off a brutal week for the 85-year-old. his wife died of cancer last week. he described the moment of impact. >> heard a large explosion behind me and the whole house shook and i shook. >> the house in the 8600 block of bustleton avenue sustained major damage in large part because the car exploded insides. as for adamo he's moving into a nursing homely. >> a delran burlington county

okay. the driver was not taking her test at the time. she'll have to come back another day for that. police did not ticket her for that accident. new this morning 13 u.s. rowers came down with a stomach illness in brazil. they got sick while competing at the world junior rowing championships. a trial run for next summer's olympics in rio. no word yet what caused the illness but the u.s. team doctor believes pollution in the lake they trained on may be to blame. high levels of viruses and vac bacteria turned up in that water during an independent analysis. officials are examining food and drink water. >> a 7-foot long hammer head shark has been detected along the jersey shore line. a ping picked up the shark swimming off laviolette ocean county. the shark has not attacked anyone. it has been spotted in shallower waters after venturing out of bellmawr up in monmouth county. o search tags the shark to track it for research. the shark is named elias. it has its own twitter page.
