native and youtube star shot while signing autographs. >> philadelphia city council gives final approval to the controversial beverage tax, but the fight is not done. good morning, friday, june 17. matt o'donnell and karen rogers are off, erin o'hern and matt pellman join us. let's head over to david murphy with accuweather. >> reporter: we start the out wet down south of philadelphia. remember yesterday i talked about showers and thunderstorms in extreme south jersey and southern delaware. no thunderstorms, not seeing any lightning strikes. we are looking at shower activity around dover. this is slowly pushing to the south. you see blips and pieces of yellows in sea isle city and places like that. it will take a while, but eventually later this morning we'll see the rain push off the coast and we'll see sunshine come back north. no rain in the rest of the region. as far as cloudy cover it's fairly cloud to start out. you can see it on satellite and

radar, there's the rain slowly trying to get out of here, you see the break in the cloud up to the north. we'll transition to more sun in the morning and afternoon. 63 degrees in philadelphia. failure comfortable in the city, 62 allentown, 65 in trenton and 65 in cape may with the rain falling down south. if you're working out this morning, 635 degrees, cloudy skies by 7:00 a.m. 76 degrees by 10:00 a.m., starting to get warm. by noon we expect to have sunshine back in play in philadelphia. starting in the north and ending up down south. the high today will be 82 reading at 3:00 p.m. things looking for the weekend we'll talk about that at the shore and elsewhere coming up. >> reporter: i'm getting a workout this morning, not in the physical sense, but the mental sense keeping track of all the accidents we had in the overnight hours, including this

one, an accident involving two teens on a bicycle. traffic northbound at north broad is blocked, if you heading northbound away from city hall, stay on 13th or 16th instead of north broad. better news on the vine street expressway, everything is reopened. construction has cleared. our crash on the pennsylvania turnpike westbound past norristown is out of the way, speeds in the mid 60s. we have a disabled vehicle in glenside along easton road at oakdale avenue. we have construction on the admiral wilson boulevard, eastbound, 38 eastbound. i gave you the bad news yesterday morning, they expect the 38 eastbound construction going through next week. we expect them this morning on this friday, tam. >> all right, thank you, matt. we're following breaking

news, a sports car driver struck two teenagers and sped away, he didn't get very far. katherine scott is live at the scene of the hit-and-run crash on broad street. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam, the two teenagers were on the same bike when they hit by the car. one is in the hospital in critical condition. the other in stable condition. you can see north broad in spring garden is shut down right now. there are evidence markers all over the street. there is debris everywhere, the impact is so severe, the front tire of the bike was ripped off an thrown 50 feet from the point of impact. this happened just before 2:00 a.m. police say five or six teen boys were riding their bikes on the 600 block of spring garden. the two victims were going southbound in the northbound lane when they were struck by a red sports car. after hitting the teens, the car fled. one teen is in critical

condition with head trauma. the second teen broke his leg and is stable. minutes later the car was located nearby, so was the driver. >> the driver who was 34 years of age was with the vehicle, he appeared to be intoxicated and had a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person. he was transported to 8th and race where he will get a breath-alyzer. that lexus was located on ridge near wallace, right on the corner from where the accident happened. you can see the vehicle had front end damage. there's a are a -- 25-year-old passenger in the vehicle who was taken in as a witness. a bandaged 1-year-old girl from delaware is -- 13-year-old girl from delaware is speaking out about a cinder block injury,

grimmie was shot and killed in orlando. her brother tackled shooter known as kevin loibl. christina grimmie did not know him, but suspected he may have been an obsessed fan. the photos were taken at the same meet and greet a short time before she was killed. she gave a shoutout on social media before the concert. >> please come to the show if you live near orlando, florida. >> reporter: christina grimmie attended cherokee high school. she shot to fame winning third place on the show the voice. after that her career took off. she began opening for big acts and winning awards and touring the country. loved ones say heaven has gained another angel for their choir. fans continued to remember her. her brother who she called her best friend broke his silence. >> she loved singing, she loved the lord and she loved me, she

was my baby sister. >> reporter: now her brother said on his facebook page that rock star adam lavine who worked with grimmie on the voice offered to pay the funeral costs. and channel 6 "action news." >> such a sad story. >> christina grimmie was killed in florida a day before the orlando massacre. president obama and vice president joe biden met with victims' families yesterday. the president said it will take more than the military to prevent terrorists attacks like the one at pulse nightclub. fbi is investigating whether omar mateen was texting his wife during the shooting. his wife is the subject of an grand jury investigation. a gun shop owner said he turned away omar mateen five weeks

before the rampage. that businessman called police, but had no name to give authorities. philadelphia is the first major city in the u.s. with a tax on sugary drinks. it follows the lead of the town of lerk -- berkeley, california. the city approved a 1.5 cent tax on drinks yesterday. he persuaded the council to spend the money on the schools and recreation centers. >> every child should have the opportunity, however not on the back of hard working philadelphians in one century. >> they spent along time twisting the facts of the whole debate on television with millions of dollars, that wasn't effective, we'll fight the next fight when it comes. >> mayor said he will sign the measure into law on monday the

city will collect the tax in january. >> if a new contract is not reached by the end of the month, atlantic city casino workers say they are ready to walk off the job. local 54 authorized a strike that will start on july 1 at the height of the summer season. they approved a strike at the trump taj mahal. the union said it made concessions in 2011 when casinos were struggling, they believe now that revenue is up they are due better pay. >> rain start in spots. >> reporter: some spots, we were expecting this. storm tracker 6 live double scan shows you we are dry across the region, but obviously down south we see shower activity. it's heavy around dover and fortescue, new jersey. sea isle city is stuck under a cell. as we look at this it's not moving all that far or fast.

half-hour i was showing you a little bit of a line between millville and the line. you will see drying after the rush hour. we'll see clouds giving way to sun today. there's a hint of sunshine coming up beneath the clouds as you look off to the east over on the other side of the ben franklin bridge. generally speaking the clouds you see in the foreground will continue to break up as the morning goes on. satellite and radar shows you the rain down to the south. cloud cover around philadelphia and points north and obviously drier air moving the clouds toward us. we'll transition to sunshine as we go through the day. may not feel like that in dover and cape may county, but you'll get there. sun mixing in around 10:00 a.m., 76 degrees and by noon we'll be breaking into a period of full sunshine with clouds mixing in

friday, happy friday everyone. looks like traffic is actually moving pretty good, that's down near penns landing. we're off to a little bit of an iffy start. looks like it will be a nice day out and nice weekend. >> hey matt, that looks like summer friday traffic. i like that, we see that less than normal volume during the summertime, often. we hope that's the case. during the overnight it's been busy with a bunch of accidents. hopefully the trend is changing and we have a decent morning. coming out of the of the burrrb.

on the turnpike portion of 7 of we have westbound construction in chester county between malvern and downingtown taking out the right lane. on the northeast extension the right lane is blocked southbound between the lehigh valley interchange and quakertown. not a huge delay. a broken down vehicle in glenside along easton road has been towed away. reports of a new crash heading down the shore early ac expressway eastbound at williamstown, not a huge delay, but something to be aware eastbound on the acx. 90,000 are heading to dover for firefly, extra congestion on highway one. time for the commuter report brought to you by the waze app.

if you're heading north in mercer county route 1 in west windsor, a vehicle stopped on the road in that location. hundreds of firefighters and fleet of aircraft are battling a growing wildfire in southern california. 1 ho homes are at risk depending on which way the wind blow. the fire started in the afternoon, high winds caused it to spread in the coastal canyons west of santa barber covering 1400 acres. dramatic video shows a liquor store owner fighting against a would be thief in webster, massachusetts. the store owner pulled out an axe handle. he jump over the counter and struck the owner in the head. the store owner is expected to be okay. new this morning, rock singer meatloaf has been rushed to the hospital after collapsing

county police academy. two years ago he rescued police officer from a burning vehicle. after the rescue the two became close, and he knew what he wanted to do. >> it's like a dream come true, i can't wait to get out there and get on the job and on the street and make a difference. >> i'm proud, i couldn't think of a better person to walk across the stage and want to be a police officer. >> chamber says he hopes to work in philadelphia alongside his mentor, beautiful story.

>> fire injured one person in philadelphia's overbrook section late last night. firefighters discovered the 57-year-old man after putting out the blaze on north 62nd street. the victim is being treated for burns to his legs arm and held. a lehigh valley senior didn't let a hospital stay keep him from graduation, he was hiking last friday when he fell 80 feet and broke his back. his friends wanted to make sure he made it to graduation day. his brother used face time soaked be part of the commencement ceremony and hear his name called. >> fire crews rushed into a burning apartment building to make sure everybody gets out okay. >> police say they tracked down a driver who struck two teens
