>> a pleasant good morning to you, it is 6:00 a.m., saturday, august 27. here's some of the stories we're following for you right now on "action news," a man on a bike is shot and robbed. right now police are looking for two masked gunmen responsible for the crime. also, a woman is robbed at gunpoint at a septa station caught on surveillance video. the heat is on for the weekend, if you're heading to the shore, you have to worry about rip currents. meteorologist chris sowers is here to help you plan your weekend with the accuweather forecast. rip currents and heat, right? >> reporter: a good combination, balls everybody wants to go into the water because of the heat

and we'll see rip currents out there because of a tropical system developing in the mid atlantic. there's the view in center city, a couple of high, thin clouds upstairs, that's about it. humidity wise it's not all that bad, temperatures are in the 60s and 70s. let's talk about the rip current risk down the shore today. it's a moderate risk. the seas will be choppy, we'll see swells of 3 to 4 feet winds out of the east at 10 to 15 miles per hour. the ocean temperature are fairly mild, but cooler than what they were last weekend. this is the system right here, believe it or not, about 1800 miles away. philadelphia is all the way up here, it's generating the large swells that are going to reach the u.s. mainland here over the next several hours, that will help to produce some of the rip currents, later this afternoon. especially tomorrow into monday, that's probably when it peaks, if your vacation week is next week, stay close to the lifeguards if you're going to

venture in the water. ocean city, 68. margate, 68 degrees. philadelphia, 74 and allentown, 64 degrees. forecasting a high of 92 in the city. with a feels like temperature of 92. 90 tomorrow, heat index of 92. it's hot, but not terrible. when i come back in just a few minutes we'll take a look at the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. gray? >> look forward to it. time 6:02. new this morning, robbers shot a man on a bike in germantown it happened overnight. this happened on cheltenham avenue near knox street. the criminals had on masks. they stopped the 19-year-old man and shot him in the leg and stole $200 from him. the victim is recovering in the hospital this morning. the police are looking for surveillance video of the suspects. a man was attacked in the parking lot of a beer

distributer in feltonville section. police say three men approached him on the 700 block of adams avenue at 6:30 and brutally beat him. police have no motive for the assault and no arrests have been made. new video this morning, you have to see this, this captures a robbery at a septa station. a man pulled a gun from his backpack you see there, then he demands a woman give up her purse. she gave up her purse, this happened at the westbound frankford line. a 3-year-old girl was found safe in new york city after her father abducted her in pennsylvania. an ambler alert was issued yesterday after robert burn snatched his daughter from her mother's home in luzerne county. byrne was found in manhattan

with his daughter who was only wear a diaper. "action news" helps a man get results after he is shocked by exposed wires on a city street. the south philadelphia man is recovering after getting quite the jolt. dann cuellar talked with the man and the city to learn who is responsible for this. >> reporter: this is 27-year-old mike smith of south philadelphia. he said wednesday night he was jogging around the neighborhood when he arrived at the traffic light pole. >> i had my angle weights on, i leandz up against -- leaned up against the pole and tried to stretch on the pole. >> i thought somebody purged me in the back of the head. i saw stars. >> reporter: smith was transported to the hospital where he was treated for electric shock. he came in contact with exposed

wires at the bottom of the pole. there was another pole that had exposed wires. his father reported the problem. >> reporter: who did you call? >> peco. >> reporter: when he noticed the problem had not been fixed. he contacted us, we called the city streets department who sent a crew within minutes. >> we had no idea that this was happening until 6abc contacted us. within an hour, the wires on both traffic lights were addressed and shielded with plastic covers that were removed. we take this seriously, especially electrocutions especially if they harm the public. >> reporter: the proper way to report them and other city related problems is to call 311. in south philadelphia, i'm dann cuellar channel 6 "action news." >> philadelphia police have succeeded in a mission to help a

charity get its stolen bikes back. officers recovered a stolen uhall that stored bike parts for wounded warrior project. one suspect is in custody. we're going to get all the stuff back for them. we expect to get the rest of the bikes back by the weekend. 9 bikes were stolen, four recovered in a bus earlier this week. last night officers located the u haul containing the other five. this was a happy ending of abuse of a cat. siobhan william was found guilty of animal cruelty. lumpy the cat experienced chemical burns. he is happy and healthy and

ready for a good home. >> there's a big financial boost for amtrak thanks to vice president joe biden. yesterday he announced at the wilmington train station that the federal government is giving a 2 billion-dollar lone to amtrak to modernize the rail service along the northeast corridor. that will buy new trains and upgrading tracks and platform improvement. new technology is on the train to prevent train collisions and derailments. he spoke fondly of the many riders who rode on the train from wilmington to washington for 36 years. >> they were with me, they were the guys on women on the phones when things went bad. they were the guys who showed up for beau's funeral. >> it will allow amtrak to

increase speed by 40% between washington and boston. yesterday governor chris christie announced in toms river that $42 million in aid is available. towns can start applying for the money from the community development block grant disaster recovery fund on monday, the cut off happens on october 18. well, it's move in day at the university of delaware just like these young men and women did last year, new students will go into their home away from home. classes in newark start on tuesday morning. good luck to all those students. if you're driving a ford, we have information you need to to hear about this morning. trees and power lines toppled amid severe storms in the midwest. >> reporter: that's something we don't have to worry about this

of storms touched down in indiana. >> no bad weather here today. >> reporter: lots of sunshine and temperatures in the 90s. >> there you go. >> reporter: let's get you outside and show you what's going on. overlooking the commodor barry bridge. beautiful morning, temperatures are on the comfortable side and dewpoint in the low to mid 60s. it will feel all right as you make your way outside for your morning stroll. 92 degrees is the high temperature today. minus the humidity it will feel all right. the normal low for this time of the year is 66. the low today 74. 60s north and west, 66 millville. poconos, 62 degrees. 60s and 70s for the shorepoints. cape may, 74. dewpoints the way we measure the moisture that's in the air. humid is 65-plus. you get into the 70s that's

oppressive, that's gulf coast type of weather. even though the air temperatures climb into the 90s, minus the humidity there's no issues out there this afternoon. there's our scale right here. later this afternoon we get into the low 60s upper 50s, maybe low 60s, monday, tuesday, wednesday, same thing not bad at all. thursday, we peak and get into the mid 60s. there comes the cold front, friday, saturday, sunday and monday, the whole weekend looks comfortable with temperatures in time 80s and no humidity at all. satellite and radar there's the bell nothing going on. all the shower and thunderstorm activity that gray was talking about that stays to the west. we'll keep bright, sunny skies from start to finish. here's the latest in the tropics, north of cuba, all the thunderstorm convection is east of the center.

as long as that continues we're seeing sheering winds the wind blowing in the opposite direction it rips the storm a part. this will have a hard time getting organized. the spaghetti plots, we take every forecast model and tropical model and plot it on the same map. it shows this thing moving to the west. very unorganized, but it shows it entering the gulf. the gulf of mexico is very, very warm. we're not seeing the sheering winds. if it survives the journey through the florida straits and gets into the gump, we have to watch this from going from an unorganized storm to a cat one or cat two overnight. back home in philadelphia, sun and clouds, less humid, 92 degrees. winds are light out of the southeast at 5 to 10. your feels-like temperatures are mirroring the actual air temperatures.

with us, happy saturday, 6:20, august 27. looking out over south jersey, the sun is starting to peek out there. this morning we have a recall that impacts people who drive ford vehicles, more than 113,000 have been recalled for various defects including problems with fuel pumps that could cause cars to stall including the taurus and mks and mkt and the ford transit van and the ford escape. tesla said the model x electric car can go from zero to 60 in 2 1/2 seconds.

they made a change in the battery that extends the range 250 miles. the model starts at $70,000. the news is bleak on the housing front, sales have fallen according to the national association of realtors, sales of existing homes fell more than 3% last month. the decline comes amid a shortage of available properties for home buyers. home values are rising at more than double the pace of e making homeownership less affordable for potential buyers. more people are flying in and out of atlantic city international airport. traffic increased by 1.6%. that puts ac airport on a record-setting pace.

everyone, 6:23 saturday morning, beautiful weekend heading down the jersey shore. be mindful of the elevated risk for rip currents. we have gaston that is sitting here spinning its wheels. even though this storm is pushing off the northeast. the swells will reach the u.s. mainland over the next several hours. we'll see them this afternoon. especially sunday and monday, right now we're seeing pretty good wave action being generated from the center of the storm. we'll not see a direct impact from this, but we'll see larger than normal waves that will start battering the beach. if you're heading into the waters today pay attention to the lifeguards on duty, ocean city will have green flags on the beach. you're only supposed to swim in between the green flags.

south jersey overnight. a chester county home in ruins, this after it is devoured by fire and smoke. and the eagles are hoping for a little luck as they face the indianapolis colts for their third preseason game, it happens tonight. all those stories, but first, meteorologist chris sowers is here with the exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast. chris it's the weekend, what's the good news? >> reporter: lots of sun. >> sun is good. >> reporter: we can see the sun is starting to shine brightly down the jersey shore. that's the view in cape may. a comfortable morning for the delaware and the lehigh valleys. we're seeing only slightly elevated dewpoint levels at this point, not as bad as the last couple of weeks. today even though temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s. it shouldn't be that bad. heat pump high in control. as you look at the satellite and the radar, you can see the outer edges of this thing, everything goes up and around the high and wraps around. whams it will stay clear over

the center of the high, eastern seaboard and rain and rain and rain as every system moves along the edges of the high. as long as the high is in control, two things will happen. one we'll not see any rain and two temperatures will heat up. that's the seven-day forecast in short right there. speaking of 90-degree days and august heat. here we go, on average we see seven of them. we've seen 12 so far. today will be 13, tomorrow, 14, monday, 15. it's been a brutal month. we're 3.8 degrees above average for the month of august. if the month were to end today it would be the warmest august on record for the city of philadelphia. today, sun an clouds, less humid and hot, 92 degrees. >> new on "action news," one person is dead after a hit-and-run in egg harbor township. two vehicles may have struck the victim before taking off the unidentified person was hit around 1:30 a.m. both directions of the black

horse pike was closed during the vehicles. two people managed to escape this burning home in east brandywine township chester county. crews arrived to the flames on the 100 block of ridge wood circle around 11:00 p.m. while the residents escaped without injury there is nothing left of the home. the cause of the fire is under investigation. it is now 6:32 happening tonight there will be a vigil for the young camden girl who you see here who was killed after getting caught in crossfire. 8-year-old gabriel carter was shot in the head while playing on a porch in camden. she died from her injuries yesterday. her father thanked supporters for all their prayers and the reward leading to the shooting stands at $12,000. officers have been flooded the streets and passing out flyers, what they need is help from the

had was like he was a little bit off. >> reporter: sources say ryan coles may have been used a chair to beat his parents to death. a relative found the slain couple after he checked up on them after not being able to reach them. ryan coles was home when police arrived. >> i contacted my great uncle. we're all in shock. >> reporter: ed coles started a music store and sold it to his cousin. >> he was always cracking jokes. >> reporter: the facebook post shows a happy trip to the phillies game for father and son, but police say he struggling with mental illness that brought police to the home. >> how did you go from that nice little boy on the bike doing me a huge favor to this? it's mind boggling.

could develop very, very quickly. we have to focus our attention on this whole area. we could go from a disorganized system to a hurricane in 12 to 24 hours, these how prime the conditions are in the gulf of mexico. here's the florida keys and the flat state's straits, there's miami, key west and for fort mes and tampa could see anywhere from one to five inches of rain. back home, sun and clouds, less humid, 92 degrees, it will feel like 92. yoarnlt tonight, maybe -- overnight tonight, mainly clear and humid, 64 for the outlying suburbs, 70 for center city. we have another tropical system in the mid atlantic. it's called gaston, it's causing huge swells. there's a moderate risk of rip currents going into effect for the jersey shore.
