are off, i'm alicia vitarelli. here's some of the stories we're following on "action news" at 12:30 p.m. fire rips through a west philadelphia church sending a massive plume of smoke into the sky. a shootout wounds three teens in philadelphia, we'll bring you the latest on the investigation. watch out in the water, dangerous rip currents at the jersey shore. we'll get you back to the breaking news, firefighters have managed to tame an inferno that raced through a west

philadelphia church this morning. good shepherd presbyterian is in ruins. chopper 6 hd was overhead as flames ravaged the church 63500 block of landsdown avenue. the fire reached four-alarms before firefighters got a handle on it. we are told this church is more than 100 years old and 6 congregations pray there. no injuries are reported. investigators are there on the scene right now looking for clues to find out just what sparked the blaze. church fire on the 6abc app you can find the latest photos and videos and updates from the "action news" team on social media. the 6abc news app is a free download for your mobile device. philadelphia police are looking for leads in a triple shooting. three teens were shot in a burst of gunfire in grays ferry. they were hit during the shootout, annie mccormick has been following the story for us all morning. >> reporter: all three teenage shooting victims were taken to area hospitals in stable condition. investigators here at south detectives are trying to figure out whether they were the intended targets or hit by stray gunfire. after the gunfire rang out at midnight, three teens were left shot, 16 and 17-year-old in the thigh, another in the back. police found 12 shell casings at the either end of the block be. >> >> appears there were shootouts

rory was playing outside when he ran into the street. a white chevy trail blazer struck the child. the driver remained at the scene. horsham township council will host a panel discussion to address concerns over chemicals in the water supply. it is believe to have come from the firefighting foam that was used at the willow grove air station. residents in warminster and warrington and horsham are affected. the meeting begins at 6:30 at hatboro horsham high school. the pennsylvania senate is set to vote on the replacement for former state attorney general kathleen kane. inspector again bruce beamer is tom wolf's nominee. beamer worked under cold front

if you've stepped outside, you've noticed the humidity is on the rise. there's a warning for the swimmers at the jersey and delaware beaches. sky6 live hd looking live at atlantic city this afternoon. you can see the beaches are populated it's a good day to be out there, but heads up rough surf from hurricane gaston. meteorologist david murphy is outside in the heat and giving us information about the rip current. >> reporter: i saw the person in the water, i hope they are staying near the lifeguards. remember the rule if you get caught in a rip current swim parallel to the beach most of us us looking at blue skies with cumulus fair weather clouds sweeping through. nothing major. it's a sun and clouds mix today. 89 degrees in philadelphia. the entire mid atlantic region especially over by the coast.

88 degrees by central park in new york, 87 in washington. better in the upper elevations in western pennsylvania and western new york. dewpoints are high, cape may and dover are looking at dewpoints in the 70s which is oppressive humidity. at 68 sticky in philadelphia. you definitely feeling if you're walking or working in the sun. here's how it will go the rest of the way, 2:00 p.m., 90. we'll see a high of 92 at 3:00 p.m., 91 at 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m., the upper 80s and sticky. so p.m. we're down to 78 -- at 10:00 p.m. we're down to 78. the humidity will drop off overnight. the shore has issues with the rip currents danger. water piling up onshore as it gets pushed in by the distant hurricane gallons ton, it rushes -- gaston, it rushes out and you get the rip current. if you try to swim against it, you will get into trouble.

rain caused floodwaters to rise in pittsburgh. four people had to be rescued. in one spot where it happened electronic warning gates didn't work. they were installed five years ago after four people died in that area in a flash flood. pittsburgh mayor is looking into the failure. check of the forecast, we're in another heat wave, but you said hang in there. >> reporter: hang in there, great big time relief coming. we don't have to wait that long for it. plus, the heat wave is not as bad as the last one.

and in dover, delaware, and aerials like that. right now down the shore, 76 in the water. mid 80s on the beach. that sounds great, but again as you go down the coast through new jersey and delaware we have rough surf and moderate risk of rip currents women near the lifeguards, because of the hurricane out to sea. 2:00 p.m., 91. the high is 92. 89 by 6:00 p.m. later tonight by 10:00 p.m. we're in the 8 -- 70s and we're looking at the humidity dropping overnight tonight. gaston was a category 3 now it's a category 2. it's pushing the swell across the western atlantic and into the shoreline. be careful today and tomorrow as well. this tropical depression popped up over the weekend. you might have missed it.

it's a couple of hundred miles away from cape hatteras and moving toward the coast. tropical depression 9 is moving toward cuba. as for this one it will come close to cape hatteras anded picked up by the cold front right in through here and shoved off the coast. it will keep the rip currents going. that will be passing us by wednesday into thursday night. there are the computer plot models on this one, they are in agreement. we have a high level of confidence with that one. the next storm to the south will become a tropical storm and curve to the issue and be an issue for the northern half of florida and southern tip of georgia sometime during the day on thursday, when you look at the model projections on this one, they are all over the place. we are going with the general idea, but other solutions are possible, we'll have to keep our eyes on that one.
