>> ♪ >> breaking now on "action news" deadly confrontation. a man armed with a bottle goes after another man with a gun and doesn't survive the encounter. >> new this morning, police investigate a shooting in wilmington, delaware just hours after the mayor vows to crack down on growing crime. >> a slick start. storm tracker6 picking up light rain for the morning commute and a chance for freezing rain if you're in the lehigh valley and the poconos. good morning, it's 5:30 now on this tuesday january 17th. matt o'donnell is off. nydia han is joining us. let's head over to karen rogers she's in for dave murphy ton matt pelman. he's got traffic. >> good morning. and the national weather service does have that freezing rain advisory for the lehigh valley until 10 o'clock in the morning and until 7 o'clock tonight for the poconos. let's show you what it looks like out there right now. we're not seeing a lot of precipitation for the morning hours it's looking very scattered and light at this point. we are going get some of that

heavier rain later on but the concern is while those temperatures are still right around the freezing mark, so so far in allentown and reading for the most part temperatures above freezing. you see the areas of plume this is well out there near 78 and i-81 where you are get something freezing rain. but we're watching to see if this develops as showers spread through parts of the lehigh valley. we are, however, seeing some showers down in south jersey and delaware and they're a little more significant but those temperatures well above freezing. so, in dover delaware, smyrna get something good rain out there. in millville along 55 and glassboro it's just wet. in hammonton and medford lakes wet also right now. as you look at the temperature profile in the northwest 34 in martins creek, 34 in quakertown, 34 in pottstown and in between the reporting sites it could be hovering right around the freezing mark but it's already 39 in center city. it's a mild day so it's just rain in philadelphia and hammonton it's 37. in dover, delaware, it's 39 degrees. here's a look at how your day is going to go. kind of dreary out there today with periods of rain. by 7:00 a.m., it's 39, by

noon, 42. a little damp in the morning but it looks like the heaviest rain is going to come in the afternoon and evening, maybe 1 o'clock to 6 o'clock and there its when temperatures will be in the mid 40's. at 7 o'clock, 44 degrees with still some rain coming down. when do we see the sun again? i'll have that accuweather answer in a few minutes. matt. >> now we're hanging onto dry conditions around philadelphia we'll take them as long as we can get them, karen. good morning to you. good morning, everybody. dry conditions meant some overnight construction here along 95 by the betsy ross bridge but the crews are long gone now. just watching a little building southbound volume headed towards center city. overall though looking good along 95 and looking good on the vine street expressway this morning. there was no overnight construction here. i don't think they're doing the overnight closures this week, at least it doesn't seem that way. you're good to go along 676. no issues on 76 or 476 the blue route but on 476 the northeast extension there was a car that ran out of gas on the northbound side about 2 miles approaching lansdale. they got him going again so

severing reopened along the northeast extension and on the east-west turnpike westbound in bucks county, overnight construction has cleared so everything is opened there as well. and in fact the turnpike connector bridge would be a better bet right now than the burlington bristol bridge wrapping up an opening there for a northbound ship, so i wouldn't head there at the moment. and if you're headed south as karen said, we're looking live here in tuckahoe atlantic county, yeah, a little bit wet out here at 50 and 49. it is a wet start in spots on this tuesday morning. tam. >> okay, thank you, matt. we are following some breaking news. a bar manager and a security guard had a long running beef. last night things got physical and then they turned deadly. that bar manager is now dead. katherine scott is live at police headquarters with more on exactly what happened here. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam. the bar manager was 44 years old. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. the 28-year-old shooter according to police was the armed uniformed security guard. he remained at the scene and

was taken into custody and brought here to police headquarters to be interviewed. let's go to video from last night in germantown, the scene where police were gathering evidence. it happened at sharon's little spot on the 5600 block of boyer street. a 9111 call came in just before 11:00 p.m. and this happened in a back room for employees only. the bar manager was shot twice in his torso, once in the leg. he was conscious and talking when police and medics arrived but was pronounced dead at the hospital at 11:22 p.m. police say there had been a simmering fight between the bar manager and the security guard that just erupted last night. both were working at the time. the verbal altercation escalated and turned physical. the guard told police that the bar manager came at him with a bottle and hit him on the head. then the guard told police he opened fire shooting the bar manager three times. >> when police arrived on location, the 28-year-old security guard remained on the

scene. he was taken into custody by police. police also took possession of his weapon. >> reporter: and again, then he was taken here to police headquarters to be interviewed. there are no surveillance cameras inside that that back room. police also took a customer and a bartender here to police headquarters to interview as well. we're live at police headquarters, katherine scott, channel6 "action news." nydia. >> katherine, thank you. more violence in north philadelphia has a man fighting for his life. police found the victim lying along the 5700 block of locust street just before 11 o'clock last night. he had been shot twice in the head and once in the leg at close range. police hope to review footage from a nearby school security camera for leads on the shooter and a motive. new this morning, wilmington police are investigating yet another shooting just after the city announced a new crime fighting plan. shots rang out at seventh and market about 12:30 and left a man clinging to life. bullets shattered the windows

of several businesses. police are still searching for the shooter and a motive. now to more on wilmington's new crime fighting plan. the city's new mayor mike purzyki roll it out. it broadens police foot patrols and communities outreach in the city's highest crime neighborhoods. they might want to take an umly. >> absolutely. we'll see periods of rain the her in the afternoon. right now though the concern is for the lehigh valley. i want to show you what it looks like right now on storm tracker6 live double scan through the area and we can see that we do have some heavy rain in spots in south jersey and delaware but a little bit of icing far up to the north. let's go a little closer here with double scan and show you exactly where this is happening. so, up in hazelton along i-81 in pottsville you're looking at a little bit of blew showing that right now in hamburg i-78 a little bit of blue, could be freezing rain. it's just showers here on route 100 near quakertown but as the temperatures drop in this area we play see this become more of a problem in the lehigh valley. let's go on outside and show you what it looks like right now as sky6 looks like at philadelphia international airport. shouldn't have any big problems flying out. that freezing rain advisory continues until 10 o'clock in the lehigh valley but until 7 o'clock right now in the poconos and we're watching for those icy spots. the concern is and as temperatures really depend on

this of how far you get the mild air. so, right now we have at the surface some freezing air but the mild air is up above 2000, 3,000 feet and that's why we get there freezing rain that's causing it to stick to the surfaces and it's only concern in areas where you're sitting near that freezing mark it's still 34 in quakertown, forty four pottstown but in between some of the reporting sites in some of the low lying areas it may be right around the freezing mark and that's enough to trigger some ice and that's why we're worried about that. in south jersey we've got no problems here, in philadelphia we have temperatures in the upper 30's like cinnaminson, 39 and dover delaware. satellite6 and action radar showing it's light moving in for the morning commute. that heavier rain comes in later on in the afternoon and as this area of low pressure drags to the north and east, it's going to bring some milder air our way and you'll see the difference with the temperatures. but future tracker showing at 6 o'clock in the morning, could still see had that some icing here in the lehigh valley. then it's just kind of damp and dreary for much of the day. later in there afternoon this is the look at 1:30, start to

see some showers moving through. at 4:30, probably the heaviest of the rain coming through at times through the afternoon and evening commute. even at 10:30, the last of those showers moving out. so, here's the look at your forecast hour by hour. today's high 45. by 8:00 a.m., it's 39. by 10:00 a.m., 43. the morning hours mostly kind of damp and dreary. looks like the heaviest rain comes in in the late afternoon hours maybe about 1 o'clock through 6 o'clock. your afternoon and evening you're going to see periods of heavier rain moving through. tomorrow we get a northwesterly wind drying us all out. we keep a fair amount of clouds and a high of 52, so at least it's mild. let's take a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast. periods of rain today, 45 for your high. tomorrow may start off with a little fog. it's milder and a high of 52. thursday partly sunny skies and 52. friday mild but afternoon and evening rain develops. look at the temperatures above average in the 50's. saturday may start off way shower, clouds and some

optimistic view of the day. we're excited as we're ready to tackle the tuesday, a lot of people heading back to work on this tuesday. so far there's no reason not to be optimistic on the roadways as you come out of the burbs. things have been moving pretty well fingers crossed that it stays that way. this is 422 eastbound come a few headlights just past the oaks interchange passing the dump leaded in toward king of prussia. still dry with no delays to speak of just yet. if you're coming in from pottstown. but head the other way westbound towards pottstown watch out for midday construction again today and it starts early at 7 o'clock. this is pretty much each day this week they block one of the lanes between sanatoga and 724 so expect delays starting in just about an hour and 15 minutes. but if you've been off the last few days some good news in kennett township. on friday they reopened the burnt mill road bridge over red clay creek. that had been closed for about three years. so go ahead and use that this morning. it is opened once again. but you can't use this. starting at 7 o'clock in woodbury they're closing the

busy intersection of cooper and evergreen again today. so red bank and 45 broad street will get you around it throughout the day until 4:30. and some new long term construction in mercer county. lawrence township they've blocked the ramp from 295 southbound to go south on route one until mid march. keep going south on 295 to sloane avenue and use that exit instead. meanwhile with the commuter report and the waze app getting reports of a crash along frankford avenue close to oral liens street. nydia. >> the wife of the orlando nightclub shooter is due in court to answer charges. noor salman was arrested in san francisco yesterday. she faces charges in florida including obstruction of justice. her husband omar mateen attacked the pulse nightclub killing 49 people before he died in the shootout last june. she denies knowing about the plot. children are among several victims of two shootings at separate mlk events the latest

gunfire happened in houston texas during a block party along martin luther king boulevard. earlier in the day panic broke out at a celebration in miami florida. three juveniles and three adults were shot. two other youngsters were grazed by bullets. two people are being questioned by police. the last man to walk on the moon has died. nasa announced that former astronaut gene cernan died yesterday. cernan an apollo 17 crew mate spent seven days on the noon 1972. before that cernan flew a gemini mission in 1965 and on apollo 10 and 1969. cernan was 82 years old. >> new this morning, a little boy in california sharing the harrowing details of his res drew a 15-foot sinkhole. firefighters pulled eight-year-old aidan camarana to safety on sunday. the boy managed to secure a rope around his waist as the water underground rose
