hosted the governor's ball last night at the white house, the administration responded to the father of the navy s.e.a.l. killed in the operation. >> reporter: the father of the only navy s.e.a.l. to die in the raid is calling on the president to investigate ryan owen's death. the government owes my son an investigation. william owens told the miami herald with a direct message to the president. don't hide behind my son's death to prevent an investigation. we watched the president and his daughter travel to dover air force base. >> we just returned from an amazing visit with a great, great family at dover. it was something very sad, very beautiful. ryan, a great man. >> reporter: but william owens told military officials he didn't want to meet mr. trump adding, i didn't want to make a scene about it. but my conscious couldn't let me talk to him. he also questioned the raid.

bonnie tyler the sun went out for 82 seconds for a half a billion people. as the moon passed between the earth and sun. it was seen in south america and africa and also streamed live on the internet. it wasn't a total eclipse. a sliver of the sun was still visible. the search continues for a shooter who killed an 8-year-old girl in texas. she died early saturday morning. her mother's car hit one of two vehicles speeding and that's when a woman who had been in one of the cars opened fire on the girl and her mother hitting that little girl. the mother was not injured. also from houston, check out
this incredible video. the person who was driving this car actually survived. the car went through the wall of a parking garage and tumbled seven stories onto the roof of another building. the teen behind the wheel is in the hospital. his condition is said to be stable. firefighters said he let himself out of the car. no word yet on what led up to the accident. he should probably try to play the lotto if he's old enough. >> samsung phone fans will have to wait. they will not reveal their galaxy 8 devices this weekend. it's concentrating on the new tablet. while sending out invitations to the new phone on march 29th in new york. >> the suspense is building for the winners of the other award show. >> forget the grammys. we're set to announce the winners of this year's second annual world news nowscars.

for that. 1400 bottles of champagne on ice. you do the math. definitely quite a celebration this morning. >> reporter: sounds like they had enough champagne for you. >> i know. >> and what's being said backstage about this whole mixup? >> on stage warren beatty said he had the card for the winner and that it said emma stone "la la land." that's why he looked a little confused at first, but then emma stone backstage said she took the card with her name on it after she won, so it's not that it was accidentally left behind. now this goes to the ones who tabulate the results. still waiting for an extra nation from them. >> they have a lot of explaining to do. and no doubt all the producers from "la la land," they're the ones drinking the bottles of champagne. >> i'll tell you who's drinking right now, steve harvey. >> marci, thank you.
now let's go back deeper backstage for more details on the best picture mistake. >> jason nathanson was backstage all night. jason, when did you know something was wrong? >> reporter: i stopped paying attention about a minute or soed into speech. i was trying to get my stuff ready. "la la land" won. that's the story. it won seven. and then all of a sudden everybody pauses and it's chaos, and he says it's "moonlight". we all thought it was a joke. that's a joke jimmy kimmel would pull. that's crazy. it was about then we knew something was wrong, and we're getting some more explanations on what's actually happening. >> jason, give me a sense. backstage were there audible gasps? what are you hearing among the people there in the production? what was it like? >> reporter: audible gasps.
that's a way to describe it. it was ayottic. never seen anything like that. never again. we were dumbfounded this would happen at the oscars, the premier event. this is the big night in hollywood. and that's what happened. what we're understanding is there's two cards for every winner. on either side of the stage, there's a card for best actress for emma stone, left and right. so she had hers. she was holding hers, but if you look at a frozen screen grab to the card he's holding, it says best actress. that's the category they were reading. that's what happened. and that's where the problem was. >> oh. so that's -- so they grabbed the spare card and have a "la la land." faye was like get it over with, "la la land." >> exactly. >> now the big question will be how did that envelope end up in warren beatty's hand. i'm sure that's what everyone is
trying to figure out. what did you make of the rest of the night? "la la land" did tell across the board. >> it did, and it was the big winner on the night with six awards. the awards up to the end were predictab predictable. when we saw "la la land" won, that's what we expected. but for "moonlight" to win. that was a surprise. although momentum has been growing for the film, but it was a big shock that not only what happened but that "moonlight" beat "la la land." >> they could t crews could not have been more gracious in an awkward moment and seemed happy for the team behind "moonlight". >> that's what barry jenkins said. he said the la "la la land" crew was gracious to him. >> that said, who do you think is drinking more alcohol

it's got to be tide residents in central pennsylvania will again be cleaning up from a rare february tornado. it's only the fourth on record but the third in the past two years. overall there were more than 100 reports of severe weather from virginia to massachusetts on saturday. that included heavy rain, hail and high winds.

okay. the mix is going to have sort of a movie theme in essence. on a sad note you may have heard bill paxton passed away. he's well known for a number of movies. "aliens" and "titanic" but twister back in 1996. and so storm chasers who learned so much from him over the years and in -- and that movie inspired so many of them. they made this for him specialispecialling his initials. they share third down on facebook. the unique way he and his colleagues remembered this celebrated actor. >> how much planning went into

>> no words. we have no words. >> by the way, here's what -- i want to describe my perspective for a quick second. i had been waiting to go to the bathroom, watching the award show. they announce "la la land." i think it's over. i get up, go to the bathroom, i come back, and the cast of "moonlight" is on the stage. >> we're going to break that down. hollywood is known for great scripting, amazing cliff hangers, emotional endings. some explosive plots. >> the show was running well for most of last night until this unexpected plot when it come to best picture. >> we want to play it all. you said the honor fell to warren beatty and faye dunaway. there was a pause. he's trying to find the correct envelope. and she's like come on with it. go on with it.
because he knows he has the wrong envelope. >> she thinks he's trying to the funny? >> yeah. >> she's like come on. >> "la la land." >> she looks over and all she sees is "la la land." >> he's showing it to her like what do we do with this? >> then this is the producer. >> there's a mistake. >> before all of this, the interesting thing is as they were talking you saw a tech with a headset. i was looking at it live on tv like why is this guy up there? did somebody crash the stage? what's happening. you see the tech walking around, and it turns out what was why. >> so much chaos, that it's hard to make out what happened until justin hurwitz comes out and tries to explain, and then warren beatty explains. >> i opened the envelope, and it said emma stone "la la land." that's why i took such a long
look at faye and at you. i wasn't trying to be funny. >> well, you were funny. >> thank you very much. >> wow, this is -- >> you remember the elizabeth taylor moment at the golden globes where she walked on and was like -- but this wasn't a senior moment. >> this was just a mistake that happened. everyone is now resurrecting steve harvey's mishap. let's check in with lesley messer. what was the reaction where you were? >> reporter: just shock. you could not have scripted a more dramatic ending to an awards show. it was unbelievable. >> aside from the mistake, was part of the surprise that "moonlight" won at all or was it just the confusion? >> i think it was the confusion of it.
and the director of the film and mahershala came back. they were saying how shocked they were. they said they loved "la la land." they accepted they won, and mahershala said he felt bad going up on stage. he said it was hard to feel joy at a moment like that. you felt bad all the way around for both of them. >> lesley, you're back there, backstage right there just steps away from where all of this is playing out. take us during the moment. what was it like? >> reporter: there was a lot of confusion as i'm sure you felt. you were wondering what is going on? is this a joke? this is a weird joke if it's a joke, and then there was a gasp that went through the room. no one could believe that this was happening. because this doesn't happen. this has never happened before. >> i mean, you can tell by the number of times jordan has to say this is not a joke and even holds up the card. how unexpected this all was.
>> reporter: yeah, and actually, emma stone backstage after said part of the reason she was confused was because she actually had her best actress card. they gave it to her as a keepsake. so there was a lot of confusion as to what might have happened. were there duplicate cards. i think we'll be hearing about this for a long time. there's a lot more we don't know about how it went down. >> apparently there's duplicate cards. there's one on both sides of the stage. emma got hers for best actress. maybe warren and faye picked up her other duplicate card when they went on stage which is why he saw "la la land" and emma stone and created that moment and pause. >> at the end of the day, mistakes happen. it's just you hope something like this doesn't happen. and you feel bad for everyone involved. >> i think the positive thing to find in all of this as you were saying how you felt so bad and
