news" at 12:30, more backlash for president trump. politicians on both sides of the aisle are announcing or denouncing his comments on the violence in virginia. and "action news" is there when a man throws an egg at the frank rizzo statue. and a cold case in the lehigh valley is involved now the suspect is linked to a famous boxer from our area. now the details, president trump's responsibilities to the deadly violence in virginia has done little to rephrase racial tensions. and plaques that honor robert e. lee were removed from eye church in new york. and two confederate monuments were vandalized and they were planning the removal of a robert e. lee monument in virginia. and here is more on the

controversy that doesn't seem to be dying down. >> reporter: well rick, democrats and republicans are calling out white supremacists and neo nazi by name there is no similarities with other protesters despite what the president asserted. >> the outrage is still pouring in over president trump's response to the violence in charlottesville. and white nationalists for the removal of a robert e. lee statue. >> i condemned neo nazi and other groups but not all of those people were neo nazis. you had people that were very fine people, on both sides. >> in one of the most contentious news conferences, it's president angry and not backing down from his initial response that both sides were responsible for the deadly violence. >> what about the alt left that

removed themselves from the manufacturing council after the response to charlottesville. back to you. >> thank you. meanwhile a memorial has just ended in charlottesville, virginia for the woman killed during the violent protests over the weekend. heather heyer was remembered fondly for a woman that showed her passion for equality at an early age. heyer was killed on saturday when a man drove his car into a crowd of protesters. here in philadelphia a man is arrested for throwing eggs at a statue of former mayor, frank rizzo. they caught the man running away from the statue at 10:30 this morning. police took him into custody. it stands across from city hall. already the center of an investigation after what police found appearing to did he damage

from paint balls. because rizzo used brutal tactics that targeted african-americans. and mayor kenney says moving the statue needs to be up for discussion. >> we are not saying it has to stay here but we say it's a historic symbol in philadelphia. >> i was not a fan of the statue when it went up but that doesn't mean i can unilaterally tear it down. >> mayor kenney had strong words for the protest in virginia. calling the president quote, out of control. police in the lehigh valley say they solved an eight-year-old murder case, the suspect is related to a famous boxer from our area. walter perez is live now with the details from the arrest. >> reporter: hi rick, this story begins before a cold case murder from 2009 i am talking about a

prior shooting during which jac jacob holmes jr. and the suspect is a legend of a boxing lend. the officials from the northampton da's office says the motive was revenge. revolving around the murder of a man eight years ago after holmes was named in a grand jury report eight years ago. the new lead that surfaced from the report led to holmes's arrest yesterday. he is held without bail. and da says that holmes was always on the radar in this case. >> this was a case we felt was solvable but we had to make sure we had everyone in place to prove this in court obviously

but the suspect's father. who happens to be the brother of former heavy weight champion, larry holmes. >> i'm a holmes, if i do something everybody knows it. why be stupid and do something. >> if i hit you everybody knows i'm a holmes. i will get told on. >> he says that holmes will face first degree murder charges, more on this story coming up on "action news" at 4:00. walter perez, channel 6 "action news." a preschool teacher in delaware county that fled guilty to throwing a child down a flight of stairs is scheduled to be sentenced today. the child was not seriously hurt and back in june. gabele plead guilty to simple assault and endangering the welfare of children.

a family was woken up in the middle of the night when their row home caught fire. in the holmesburg section this morning. it started in the back of of the home and everyone got out safely. the cause of the fire is still under investigation. turning to accuweather after a couple of gloomy days, the sun has finally returned to the delaware and lehigh valleys and so has the heat. sky 6 hd taking a live look at the jersey shore and a lot of folks here on the beach at cape may. the beach is a nice respite as the temperatures climb and there is a warning this noon before you hit the water to cool off be careful of rip currents. david murphy is outside with the details from accuweather. >> reporter: we are off to a sunny start and the kind of day you think hey, lets go to the beach and there are issues down there. we have a rip current risk and a high risk today. that is rare. usually we get moderate risks.

and that happened several times over the summer. this is high because of the tall swells coming in hundreds of miles owe the ocean from the center of hurricane gert passing us by today. if you head down to the ocean you need to talk to your lifeguard before you venture into the water and listen to their advice. they may say we'll let you into to your ankles we'll see. a couple of clouds popping up here and there and it remains fairly bright with the sun and clouds mix and temperatures on the warm side. right now 83 degrees in philadelphia. and the same story in allentown and reading and 85 in millville and similar in wilmington and trenton and 78 degrees and 82 on the boardwalk in atlantic city. and the ocean water is tempting. dew points are an issue in the southern half of the region and out toward reading, a lot of numbers in the 70s. not quite so bad in philadelphia.

allentown and philadelphia saw the numbers drop and it's possible from philadelphia north we'll get lower dew points later this afternoon and moderate humidity. down south it looks to stay sticky. a high of 88 degrees and models suggesting that happens at 2:00, 3:00, and a slow slide to 86 by 6:00 and 80 by 10:00 and the 70s after that. moderate humidity overnight tonight and in to tomorrow. another issue coming up on friday where there is isolate the downpours and a couple of strong storms in the region in the afternoon and evening. we'll have more on that and a look toward the weekend and eclipse on monday in the seven day. lots to talk about. >> thank you. and this reminder, you can get weather updates any time on your phone or tablet. including real time views from stormtracker 6 live double scan, the 6 abc app is a free down for your mobile device. septa introduced a new high tech way for riders to report security or safety issues.

the septa watch mobile app was launchd this morning allowing riders to decretely report incidents. they hope that the discrete quality of the app will allow people to speak up. >> people will quickly send a text out. it doesn't require us to ask for their name or phone number and they are not forced to give it. >> the app was made possible by a partnership withte corporation. work is beginning on a new sewer line that could cause headaches for people that use broad street in the east oak lane section. the new line will be installed

some are so large in some cities they are preemptively calling a state of disaster to call on the national guard to help guide the masses of people. >> some areas are overwhelmed and they need us to set up traffic check points, we are ready to do that. >> here in georgia two hours north of atlanta, they see a rare total eclipse. they are expecting 200% more people that live here. we need to enjoy in event. >> there is no reason to panic. >> they are expected to see 1 million visitors and some hospitals are canceling elective surgeries and in portland they rented out 7,000 cars and suvs for the event. 43 mile of auto from end to end that is what they normally do for a whole week. >> the people that travel across

12 states to see the eclipse will go into towns and areas that are not accustomed to seeing this influx of people and the red cross has resources in place all along the eclipse zone and have suggestions to stay safe in such large crowds. >> we encourage folks to have in their cars an emergency go kit. including water and nonperishable food and flashlight with batteries and an envelope full of cash. >> look at the clouds that moved in over our background, there are mountains back there you can't see. they hope this doesn't happen on monday and authorities warn people that are coming to view the eclipse that if they have an emergency they need to find a land line because there will be so many people on their cell phones all at once. and this note we have a special section on our website dedicated to the solar eclipse on monday.

meteorologist, david murphy, is back now with the accuweather forecast. feeling warmer than usual out there. >> a couple of degrees above arm and it is warm. you are right, upticking from where we have been recently. stormtracker 6 live double scan showing us we have dry and had dense fog this morning and maybe patchy fog tomorrow morning but at the noon hour that is all gone. as we look outside. sun is mixing with some clouds pretty much we call tropical disturbance this morning the sun and clouds mix the rest of the

way and moderately humid in philadelphia and we hope that gets better over the next several hours but cool drinks is a good idea. and dew point 67 and that is well above the 60 degree threshold we begin to consider humid air. that is down a couple of tics from this morning. winds from the north northern west at 3 miles per hour. and ocean temperature 76 degrees but the issue with rip currents, bad ones down there at the shore in spots. there you see the clouds himming with the sun and that is what we have the rest of the way. sun and clouds mixing. warm with highs in the mid to upper 80s from trenton to allentown and reading and philadelphia and millville. down the shore cooler and low 80s and nice on the beach if you go and sun bathe and we have the issue with the rip concerns, 82 by 2:00 and 87 by 6:00 and we expect our high to be 88 hitting in the 2:00 to 4:00 period and

numbers not changing much this afternoon and 10:00, down to 79 and we may feel the humidity ease in the evening hours. hurricane gert is off the coast and probably pops to a category two before drop back to a one. and not threatening land but when you get a tropical storm like this you get swells across open water and they don't stop until they hit land and that is the land they are hitting, new jersey and delaware among the areas that have high risk for rip concerns. a danger for all swimmers in the water. not just the currents that tend to take you out and get new trouble. if you don't have the presence of mind to swim parallel to the beach, you can experience back and neck injuries, when we give a moderate risk of rip concerns that is an issue. and tomorrow there could be rip current action at the shore and we'll let you know what the forecasters are saying about

that, otherwise u686 degrees ana spotty storm is possible especially later in the day or tomorrow night. 88 degrees and the farther south you go the stickier it will be and partly sunny and warm and humidity ticking up in the day and the thunderstorm is around hopefully missing the eagles contest. friday is a day to watch, the high warm and muggy and chance of downpours at times and strong gusty thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. it stays humid on saturday. and the chance for a pop-up thunderstorm our shower. and then the front off the coast and a nice summer afternoon and high of 88 on sunday. for the eclipse we take out a chance of shower in the forecast and partly sunny on monday and high of 89 and assuming you have

the proper eye geertz a nice day to see the eclipse. topping our people scene at noon, daniel craig will make a fifth go around as the deb nar spy, james bond. he will reprise his role for the 25th bond film. the announcement is a reversal for craig he would rather slash his wrist than do no bond film, he says that was a stupid remark and couldn't be happier to return to the role. no word on how much they are paying him. craig took over in 2007 for casino royal.
