construction starting to move on the vine. here's an accident in wynnewood, remington road causing problems. another one in lower gwynedd bethlehem pike. busy with accidents at this early hour. >> now to the latest on the natural disasters from puerto rico and mexico. rescuers are searching for possible survivors of the earthquake in mexico. the number of people is 273. this is one of the many rescues that have taken place. firefighters helped a woman out of a hole in the ceiling. a lead disaster team from the united states are in the quake zone they brought 62,000 pounds of medical equipment and splice. thousands who survived the quake are homeless many are in shelters. hurricane maria continues it's destructive path it gains strength as it heads toward the

turks and caicos. some plights -- flights will bring in aid and supplies. people are lining up for clean water. contractors are getting to work clearing trees and getting up no power lines. it will take months to get power restored to all those in puertoo rico. "action news" jeanette reyes is live for us in university city with more on how students are supporting survivors with their donations. jennette. >> reporter: tam it's understandable to be frozen with fear and anxiety waiting to hear the fate of your loved ones back home. many find themselves in that situation. a penn student has broken through the concerns and managed to mobilize a large group of universities to fundraise for his home county. >> i have a significant part of

my family that lives on the west coast. we have not heard from any of them. it's worrying. >> reporter: it's a paralyzing fear to not know the fate of loved ones back home. jose has not heard from most ofs relatives. despite his growing concerns he refuses to sit by and do nothing. >> that's been the greatest part of this, i've been able to talk to people from all over puerto rico that are living all over the country super eager and willing to ahead. tore -- he led the organization to fundraise. ten thousand dollars was raised in 24 hours to help with rescue and recovery efforts. and the number continues to grow. mexican student association, a local one is raising funds.

we have all that information at 6abc.com if you would like to pitch in. jeanette reyes channel 6 "action news." tam. >> jennette, thank you for that. new this morning, police are investigating a double shooting which they are classifying as a murder. two men were shot driving in the car 1800 block of north 33rd street in strawberry mansion last night. the driver was shot in the abdomin and died at the hospital. the passenger was grazed by a bullet in the head and taken to the hospital in critical condition. police found more than 7 bullet holes in the car. they are reviewing surveillance video as they search for the shooter. >> police are warning people to check their bank accounts carefully it comes after skimming devices were found on several atms in philadelphia and montgomery county. three men were caught on surveillance setting up the skimming. they were in willow grove and

abington. volunteer firefighter was put on administrative leave after charges that he inappropriately touched a 1-year-old girl several times. according to officials tiny was a friend of the girl's parents and her baby-sitter. firefighters were shocked to learn of the charges against tinny. >> students are heading back to class in the methacton. the teachers and school district agreed to a nonbinding arbitration to settle the dispute. they are disputing salary and healthcare premiums and class sizes. new information on the up coming trial of allentown mayor. the trial will be held at the federal court house in allentown. jury selection will happen in philadelphia in january.
