good morning and welcome to 10 news this morning. i'm allison kropff. and i'm ian reitz. it's a story that has hundreds of you ticked off this morning. you show up at your polling place only to be told you already cast a ballot... that happened to a lakewood ranch woman and this morning we're getting to the bottom of how it happened. 10news reporter sarah hollenbeck is live at the manatee county supervisor of elections office. sarah, people on facebook aren't being shy about how they feel about this. yes, a lot of you telling us this

trust in the voting system. and the other thing people are bringing up-- that they feel paper ballots are more reliable than voting on the electronic machines. this morning our local supervisor of elections offices are reassuring us that this is an extremely rare case. voting fraud, they say, is nearly impossible to pull off -- and they're telling us again and again that you can trust the system. turns out, in karen joseph's case, it was a combination of a technical problem and the state's own safeguards. manatee county supervisor of election mike manatee county

bennett says in joseph's case a technical problem caused the machine to belive she has already checked in to vote and on top of that a paper jam kept the machine from spitting out a ballot. her case was reviewed-- and turns out-- she was right and was able to cast a ballot. what can you do in the rare case this happens to you? what's your best defense? i'm looking into it now and putting the final edits on that for 5- allison... in a few hours, vice president joe biden will be in the bay area. he'll be campaigning for hillary clinton for a "get out the early vote" event. he will be speaking at mosi in tampa at 11:15 this morning. doors open at 9:15. biden will then head to west palm beach for another rally. president obama will also be making his way to the sunshine state today. he'll be in miami where he will stay the night. tomorrow, he'll be at rallies for hillary clinton in miami and later on

hillary clinton will be campaigning out west today. this comes after she and her husband, former president bill clinton stopped by the bay area. the former secretary of state was in dade city, while her husband appeared in st. petersburg. their trips were aimed at voters critical to deciding this year's presidential race. a census bureau report found that in the 2012 presidential election black voter turnout exceeded that of non-hispanic white voters. but another report shows that the minority vote is down so far this year. some people who attended the bill clinton rally in both candidates haven't really addressed issues affecting some minority communities. in dade city, former miss universe campaigned with hillary clinton. she hoped to send a clear message to hispanic and woman voters. republican presidential nominee donald trump will be criss-crossing the state today. trump will be speaking at events all over the state, including, miami, orlando and pensacola. as of right now,

bay area again before election day. trump will head to jacksonville tomorrow. this is interesting. the election season is almost over...and one airline is taking advantage of that. spirit airlines is offering free flights, but you can only fly on election day. it may seem to good to be true, but its not. the airline was offering a special where your flight on november 8th was 100 percent off. unfortunately, the offer expired at midnight. ag lot of you upset on our facebook page. an investigation is underway into the death of a 21- month old girl. this is ella grayce pointer. police opened an investigation into her death after emergency workers made disturbing discoveries about the child. family members say ella had some organ injuries and even signs that she suffered from sexual abuse. police haven't said what led to ella's death, but they know two men were with her at the time, including her mother's boyfriend. her mother was at work when she

stopped breathing. the hashtag, justice for ella grayce, is being used by the family to push police to make an arrest. all they wanted was five thousand dollars, but they got a whole lot more. protesters of the dakota access pipeline set a goal of five grand on go fund me. since the account was set up in april, the contributions have topped one million dollars. the money is being used to help the group stay in north dakota to protest the pipeline. we've all heard stories about the proverbial "starving college student" just struggling to make it while away from home. well, that true for a lot of young people across the country...and one student is taking action to make sure no one at his college goes hungry. 10news reporter emerald morrow is live in the newsroom. emerald, a young man out of alabama is stepping up to feed his classmates in need. yes, this is such an inspiring story. here you have a student who is already juggling a lot himself---trying to get an education, working a job---but somehow he found a way to start an on- campus food pantry for classmates who are running low on funds to keep

this is 20-year- old justin franks. he goes to alabama a&m, and says he was inspired to start this on-campus food bank after finding out some students at his school were skipping meals or going to bed hungry because there just wasn't enough money to go around. and even though he didn't have much himself, he took 40 dollars, a little bit of faith and started up the foster complex food pantry. and the response was overwhelming. he started out with a few packages of ramen, so household items. and when he posted about it on facebook, the project took on new life. the story got shared hundreds of times and donations just started pouring in. even though this story is out of alabama...food insecurity is actually a big issue for many college students across the nation. did you know that one study shows that more than 40 percent of students surveyed cut the size of their meals because there wasn't enough money for food? i'll be back at 5:30 with more on what you can do to

this is great news for all the usf bulls out there. usf was named the best four year college in the country for veterans. this is the first time they've earned the top spot on the annual list. the university says it's always made an effort to give student veterans and their families the best service giving them the tools they need to have a successful transition from the military to college. it doesn't get more exciting than this: there will be a world series game seven. the chicago cubs beat the cleveland indians nine to three on tuesday night in game six. four hits and including a homerun and jake arrieta struck out nine in five and two thirds innings. tonight's game is at 8. the last time both of these teams made it to a game seven in the world series, they each lost. they may not have won tuesday night, but you can still score some free taco bell today...all thanks to the cleveland indians. it's part of the fast food chain's "steal a base, steal a taco" campaign. during game one of the world series, cleveland indians shortstop

on! we're just 6 days from the presidential election and the race is tightening. both candidates are making a final push for votes. hillary clinton will be out west today and donald trump will be campaigning here in florida. wipe voter concerns. a lakewood ranch woman shows up at the polls for early voting and was told she already voted. wipe one more game.

night, forcing a game 7 in the world series. that game takes place tonight in cleveland.> the busiest traveling season is just around the corner. as you make plans to see family or friends this thanksgiving, you can expect to see a lot of people at the airport. airlines have boosted the number of flights and size of planes while the price of tickets has dropped significantly. more than 27 million people are exed between november 23rd and 28th. some of the most popular destinations are new york, las vegas, dallas, chicago, atlanta, los angeles, newark and san francisco. this is really cool video you have to see. 17-thousand turtles have been released into the amazon. this happened in peru. the turtles are on the verge of extinction and they have been protected, so this is a good sign that they may be able to get off that list. officials there hope this will allow them to reproduce in their natural habitat.

lot of you talking on our facebook page this morning. new evidence this morning could prove amelia earhart died as a castaway. researchers say the new evidence supports the theory that earhart didn't die in a plane crash, but as a castaway on a remote island. researchers believe radio transmissions prove her plane landed safely. also, they believe partial skeletal remains found in 1940 could belong to earhart. back then, doctors thought the remains belonged to a male, but researchers took a look at the files again. they determined the bones are

morning. johnny depp has entered j.k. rowling's wizard world. warner brothers says the actor will make a brief, appearance in the new film, "fantastic beasts and where to find them" . not only does he make a cameo in the first film, he will have a bigger role in the sequel. that's expected out 2018. in case you aren't familier with the book, "fantastic beasts and where to find them," it is set 60 years earlier than harry potter. there are expected to be five films in the franchise. "fantastic beasts and where to find th "fantastic beasts and where to find them" is out november 18th.
