national spotlight. what they will be wearing thursday night. it took 108 years, but the cubs beat the indians in an extra inning last night. >> wrigley field in chicago, fans gathered to watch the game and celebrated in the streets after the win. some of them still out there this morning. they can't get enough of being world series champs alongside of the field. emerald is in the newsroom this morning. for cubs fans this don't think there is anyone alive old enough to remember the last time the cubs were world series champions. it was 108 years ago. everyone had pretty much written off those cubbies as the team that was likable, but the team that would always be, i hate it say it, but losers. >> i am so happy! we have waited so long for this and now we finally get to celebrate.

waiting 12 years? >> yeah. >> reporter: and even in those 12 years of life, you can see just how this is something that's in this little guy's blood. a lifelong fan. like many others with life experience, cubs fans are die- hard for their team and have supported them, win or lose, over the years. it's a huge reason why this victory feels so sweet. another is because of the way the victory was earned. they were on the losing it all -- verge of losing it all, but they came back after one of the most thrilling world series games in baseball history. as sweet as this is for cubs fans, some of us in tampa bay are feeling a little bit saucy because of the cubs manager former race manager joe maddon. >> yeah, has a lot of folks talking, emerald, in tampa bay about that. i mean, that's one of those topics that people are discussing. >> reporter: yeah, that's right. we have a lot of comments on

the top entertainers. taylor swift earned $170 million. the year before that katy perry $80 million. adele $80 million as well and madonna third on the list. want to get over to hilary. she is keeping an eye on traffic fours. 6:14 is the time. >> we have a couple new issues in hillsborough county. first of all an accident reported by the florida highway patrol along 50 u.s. 41, whatever you know it as. there aren't any lanes blocked from this. if you look closely, you can see some yellow in the northbound direction some possibly also because this is an area with construction there is a little bit of a delay there this morning. south of there in the big bend area along i-75 there is debris reported in the center lane. something must have fallen off of a week because this is in the center lane in the

cleared out of the way before rush hour really picks up. sounds like it's dirt or mulch in the lane. watch out there. live at sky 10 and checking out the interstates. in pinellas county 275 picking up a little bit in the northbound direction. we are not seeing any delays though. this is a live look right at gandy buffalo. your drive time is 10 minutes from pinellas point drive north to gandy. and if you are on i-4 in polk county this is a live look at memorial boulevard. things along the i-4 corridor are quiet through polk county, even through hillsborough county through plant city your drive time is 15 minutes from polk parkway to 75 in tampa. and if you are traveling in the sarasota area, just make sure you give yourself time on i-75. there may be construction blocking lanes at university parkway. now, if you have any problems on the roads send me an email. i am your road warrior and i will help you with any traffic

about traffic in tampa bay. email me at roadwarrior@wtsp.com. looking for cooler temperatures. they are on the horizon. just got to wait it out for one more day. meantime, it's going to be a little bit warm, a little bit humid out the door this morning. i promise if you survived the florida summer, this is nothing you can't handle. great start in terms it of visibility. no problems with the beaches to the inland spots. 69 in tampa and pretty comfortable start out there. we are looking towards a pretty nice day all in all. those morning workouts are going to be pleasant as you are heading out the door. get them in early. it will warm up quickly by about 10:00 and special with the sunshine, which we are gonna see a fair amount of at times during the day today. it's going to heat up quickly. 86 degrees this afternoon. not bad at all. it's gonna feel not much warmer than 86. a little bit more humidity. heat index about 88.

and then you really won't have to wait much longer before the next cold front moves in. here is the dip in the jet stream we have been waiting for you. we see a dip, we get that cooler, drier air in place, and then back behind it we continue with those northwest winds. as long as that pattern is in play, we get to enjoy at least some drier air. maybe not necessarily keeping things super cool, but comfortable out there. st. pete wine and food festival looks great. that actually starts today. run through sunday. looking good. friday is the only chance at seeing showers. we are going to limit that largely to the evening hours and even then looking for a 20% coverage. you should not have any issues there. and then sunday morning you will be waking up to really pleasant numbers with a lot of low 60s, even some upper 50s back in the mix. here is a look at our rain chances. this is taking you to friday afternoon. notice this is around the time yesterday it looks like that

hours. notice how the rain chances stay east of the area. we are going to be on the tail end of this front. there is not a lot of moisture for it to work with. it's likely everything's gonna stay to the east. the inland spots about a 20% coverage of showers and then we will expect temperatures in the low 80s as we look ahead to the weekend with overnight lows in the 60s. pretty comfortable and a little icing on the cake for you. we get that extra hour of sleep this weekend. remember to set the clocks next week as well because we stay pretty comfortable through at least wednesday of next week. get updates on the road. uv on 105.5 fm, on sarasota talk-radio 106.9 fm and 10 weather in spanish on maxima 92.5. it is something that many of you are doing right now. you're taking care of your children and an aging parent. we are taking a look at the difficulties millions of americans are facing.

7 anyway. lebron james who won a championship with the cavs earlier this year loses his mind after the indians -- after things were tied up in the game. this image right here, this is already a gift that has been trending online. we don't know how he reacted after the loss. but he was excited at this point during the game. >> yes, he was. are allegiant planes safe? this morning many of you are shocked after a "tampa bay times" investigation found that their jets are four likely to fail than planes operated by other u.s. airlines. sarah hollenbeck is live. this is scary for people? >> reporter: absolutely. i have been talking to passengers going into their flights this morning. you can imagine they are not feeling good about this. there 77 emergency landings like this one. 77 in just one year.

here at the airport at allegiant, they are wondering what the airline is doing to keep them safe. some of them telling me while they don't feel very good about this situation, you get what you pay for and these flights, which can be hundreds of dollars cheaper, are too reasonable to pass up even with the scathing report. it's a troubling report for the st. pete-clearwater airport where 95% of the flights are operated by allegiant. their jets er years old. we checked in with other u.s. airlines and found out that their jets are only about 12 years old on average. the times also found allegiant doesn't have mechanic staff at every airport. "tampa bay times" took your findings straight to the allegiant leaders. you won't believe what their response was. the ceo of allegiant said, i can't sit here and say you're wrong, he said.

running a better operation and safety is going to be prime. allegiant has plans to start replacing some of their aging fleet soon. a lot of you are reaching out on facebook this morning. they are wondering what you can do to make sure that safety becomes a bigger focus with allegiant airlines. we wanted to find out, well, what can you do? the best answer is to contact the faa. tell them not only to investigate every time there is an allegiant to make changes. this is an odd story. a man in tutu waltzes into a tampa farmers market wednesday morning. it was all caught on surveillance video. the hillsborough county sheriff's office says the guy in the tutu and another in a sweatshirt damage a glass door. they stole some fruit and soda. investigators believe the crooks' outrageous costume

saves a woman's life. 87-year-old doreen, she goes to the same cafe four times a week. when she didn't show up as usual, servers got worried about her. she had been working there 17 years. she had been coming there for almost a decade. they knew each other really well. she had the police go check on her, and it turns out she was stuck in the bathtub. her knees went out and she couldn't get out. she sat there for four days. she from the faucet to stay hydrated and covered herself in towels to try to stay warm. four days. thankfully, the server noticed that she wasn't there because she always comes and she knew where she lived, she had a cell phone number and she asked the police to check what was going on. >> absolutely. she thought something was wrong. when you say four days, i can't believe it. you know, they develop relationships over time when you visit the establishment, you are there day after day.

neighbors and friends and family. >> absolutely. let's check traffic for you at 6:46 on this thursday. how we doing? >> a very bad accident involving a semi and car in polk county. this is in the lake wales area along state road 60. all lanes are blocked. a couple miles east of highway 630 there. now, luckily, there are no major injuries reported in this. but because this involves a semi and this is not a very wide road, stro closed in both directions. major delays here. your detour is walk in water road and highway 630. it loops around for you to get around. and if you are kind of not familiar with this area, you could hop on your maps before you head out the door to kind of see how that works because those roads are not shown on this map. now, if you are heading out in the hillsborough county area, we are seeing those normal rush hour delays now and our hottest spot is 275 south.

fowler and fletcher. already up to 25 minutes from the apex down to i-4. our other hot spots i-4 west to downtown tampa and i-75 south. sky 10 right now flying over i- 4 at macintosh road, and definitely the westbound lanes are slow here. you can see you're in the red a little bit as you travel between polk parkway and 75. drive time is that's a 3-minute delay. plant city delays as well. east lake road is getting a little slow heading south. also u.s. 19 through palm harbor is in the green. that's about to get heavy as well. sarasota, manatee counties, good morning to you. no major incidents reported. bridges between palmetto and bradenton are getting a little slow, but i-75 remains in the green. if you have any problems on the roads be sure to send me an email. i am your road warrior.

stretch to even call them showers. very, very light rain. one or two drops on the windshield. that's what we're expecting in the forecast for today. looking ahead to tomorrow, there will be a bit more shower chance out there, but overall our trend is really going to be dry over the next several days. 86 coming up this afternoon. that 86 might feel more like 88, 89, but not going to feel like 90. weekend hanging through there. it is one more day before the cooler air is set to arrive. game tonight taking on the falcons. 78 your kickoff temperature. not looking bad at 8:25 if you are heading to ray jay. enjoy the game. hope for a bucs win this time around. the weekend is gorgeous. highs in the upper 70s to 80 degrees. we get the extra bonus sleep. double winning this weekend. we have that extra hour of sleep, cooler temperatures.
