double shooting that happened along the bw parkway. the northbound side will be closed for a while longer while the investigation continues. let's get a check of our weather with tony perkins. we saw the beautiful sunrise out there. it is the start of a chilly day but it will be micer later on. >> chilly this morning. some of you in the 30s this morning. let's start with the bus stop forecast as you think about getting the kids ready for school early this morning. going to be a fine day but give the kids or put the kids in their jackets. it is chilly. temperatures in the mid-40s for most of the area. skies will be sunny but it is a cold start to the day, folks. 40s and some 0s out there as well. sunrise officially is at 6:06. -- and some 30s out there as well. 47 in washington. 44 at baltimore.

a double shooting which occurred back in the 2:00 hour closing the northbound side of the baltimore-washington parkway in riverdale. so traveling between 410 and the capital beltway, you have no access along this stretch at this time. delays are already forming at least a mile gabbingup northbound with all traffic being diverted off at 410. coming out of d.c., better bet is to stick with 50 or kenneth worth avenue and use that as your workaround. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. president obama heading to ground zero this morning in new york to follow up on the killing of osama bin laden. he will arrive in new york city in just a few hours and will participate in a wreath laying at the 9-11 memorial. the president will also meet with relatives of 9-11 victims but he is not making any public statement. the debate over whether or not to release the photos of bin laden's body has been decided. >> the white house will not release those photos and president obama says he will not release any new details

about sunday's raid either. he was waving off critics who say the photos should be released to put to rest any conspiracy theories. in an interview with 60 minutes, the president explained why he decided not to release those photos. >> it is important for us to make sure that very graphic photos of somebody who was shot in the head are not floating around as an incitement to additional violence, as a propaganda tool. that is not who we are. >> pakistan continues to face criticism for not knowing bin laden was hiding in plain sight. a look at other top stories this morning. firefighters say a faulty do it yourself job is to plame for the gas explosion that leveled a home in rockville. two people were critically injured. investigators say man representing the house was trying to convert a gas dryer to an electric dryer but he didn't have the right tool to

finish the job and left the gas line open. the death of a north carolina teenager found dead in a maryland river has been ruled a homicide. 16-year-old fell issue rae barnes disappeared in december while visiting family in baltimore. her body was found in the susquehanna river two weeks ago. maryland state police are not releasing the cause of death and so far, no arrests have been made. a man from prince george's county has been indicted in connection with stabbings in virginia. 34-year-old delonte cook is accused of taking part in an armed home robbery in november 2008 in springfield. three men were stabbed to death in that robbery and police say cook faces federal robbery charges. authorities also say more charges are expected to be filed. a familiar scene in d.c. city leaders fighting for autonomy and voting rights ending up in handcuffs. mary cheh and seven other people arrested last night after walking into traffic and blocking constitution avenue. capital police acted quickly

workers at the fukushima nuclear power plant have entered the plant for the first time. they are installing radiation machines. they must be lowered before workers can install cooling systems. missy energy has offered settlements to families of 29 miners killed in the up he big branch coal mine on april 5th last year. each family was offered $3 million to settle their claims. this mine explosion was the deadliest in the u.s. coal field since 1970. the justice department deciding whether to investigate revelations that apple and google cell phones track their honer's locations. attorney general eric holder told the senate judiciary committee that he takes the issue seriously. apple ceo steve jobs as said his company has never knowingly violated customer privacy by using the tracking data collected on the phone. tony has your full forecast coming up next. a much calmer scene here compared to what has been happening along the mississippi river.

president obama signed an order declaring an emergency for parts of tennessee, mississippi and kentucky because, as you can see, there is veer flooding there. the move means nemeira aand other agencies can help coordinate efforts. new image this is morning of the devastation in alabama. look at these pictures. these are from the tuscaloosa news. as of last night, 30 people still missing following the deadly tornadoes one week ago. that number down dramatically from 240 people who were still reported missing on tuesday. at least 39 people were killed in tuscaloosa county alone.

shelters are busy helping to care for survivors like one- year-old carter matthews who slept through the storm. the tornado picked up his home ripping it from its foundation. >> i don't know that i could sleep through that storm. i can't imagine what they're going through down there. it will take months, maybe even years to fully recover from that. >> whenever you see that type of damage, it is the same thing with what happened in japan a couple of months ago. i look at it and i just think where do you even start? there is so much destruction. where do you start? it will take a very long time. >> happy news for us. >> and for much of the eastern united states. quiet conditions today. we can use it in the eastern united states after all the storms last week and even some storms earlier this week in parts of the eastern u.s. but quieter conditions and certainly for us, yeah. here are your weather headlines for today and the next couple of days. for the most part, they are pretty good. for today, i think you'll like this. we've got sunny skies.

so that is nice. plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures. yesterday during the day, we were in the 50s. our official high was at 62 degrees. that was at midnight. but temperatures in the 50s yesterday so much warmer today. now, main thing for today, it is going to be windy. we've already got wind blowing around 10 miles per hour or so and those winds will pick up during the day. weekend looks pretty good but there is a chance of some -- there is a chance of some showers here and there over the course of the weekend. let's take a look at the current temperatures around the region. 46degrees here in washington. buffalo, 39. not a big surprise there. but cincinnati is 39. chicago is 37 degrees this morning. so some cold air has made its way in. in the nation's midsection, dallas, 59. lincoln, nebraska, 51. here is a look at the satellite- radar for the region. we do have a few clouds out there but a pretty sky this morning. during the course of the day

today, we'll see plenty of sunshine. not a lot happening here. up to the north, there are a couple of pressure systems that will bring us the windy conditions. aside from that, it is quiet in all -- most of the eastern united states with the exception of what is going on up to the north. so the forecast for today looks like this. lots of sunshine. it will be windy at times. high today about 70 degrees. that is close to normal. there are your wind out of the northwest. they could gust up to 25 or 30 miles per hour. tonight, still breezy. partly cloudy but another cool night with temperatures in the 40s across much of the region. five-day forecast, i think today is the nicest day of the workweek. tomorrow, not bad but more clouds will build in touring the afternoon and we could see some showers in the evening tomorrow -- during the afternoon and we could see some showers during the evening tomorrow. sunday, about a 0% chance of some showers. monday, 72 under partly sunny skies.

some drivers are going to great lengths now to steer clear of high gas prices. and the market activity from yesterday, well, it was the best news for investors. let's take a look at where stocks finished yesterday. it was an up and down day for the dow. more down than up. the dow closed down almost 84 points yesterday. dax also down 13 points. now, we'll see today if futures can respond to what happened overseas in japan where the nikkei was up 155 points. at this point, dow futures are flat or negative. just a small bit here in the united states. would you believe more people buying golf carts that are street level spending # how to $10,000 for golf carts. they are treat legal to try to get around paying the gas prices. president obama saying the white house will not release any photos showing a dead osama bin laden. he talked about it on 60 minutes. more on the decision and why

today. look for a high today of about 70 degrees. coming up in about 15 minutes, today's edition of ask the weather guys. it is going to be really great. that is all i'm going to say about it. you do want to tune in. we have a little bit of a price for you. >> we like surprises. >> look forward to it. >> all right. before we get to julie wright, we want to talk about what has been happening out on the bw parkway this morning. a double shooting there just before 3:00 a.m. >> it is expected to impact traffic throughout the morning commute too. fox 5's stacy cohan is live on the scene with the latest for us this morning. >> good morning. this is absolutely a crime story and a traffic story and i know we do have sky fox with us. you can get a better look at where we are situated here on the bw parkway. there was a double shooting early this morning and the bw parkway shut down northbound between riverdale road and the beltway. there is no access. i understand the traffic is already backing up and this

investigation continues. now that we do have daylight, they are -- investigate irons are better able to get a look at what happened here. now, early this morning, it was very dark outside when this shooting was discovered. park police received a 911 call from the b. with that parkway. there were two victims. here is what the u.s. park police spokesperson had to say shortly after the shooting. >> around 2:15 this morning, u.s. park police officers responded northbound baltimore- washington parkway in the area of the beltway. they found a vehicle that had two people in it. both had received gunshot wounds. >> reporter: i do see that the tow truck has arrived on the scene here. that is usually a sign that an investigation is wrapping up. i would caution folks that this does not mean that this roadway is going to be reopened soon. the investigators are trying to proceed but they do have to find everything that they need to find right now because once

frederick, maryland is at 45 degrees as is dulles airport. manassas, 43 degrees. as we look off to the east, cambridge, maryland is at 46 degrees at this hour. let's take a look at the satellite-radar composite -- no, i want to show you the wind. the current sustained winds, 10 miles per hour here in the district. 12 at dulles. eight in bald. six in fredericksburg so a breezy day. these winds could gust later on today up to around 25 miles per hour or so. now, the satellite-radar, what you will see is mostly quiet conditions. we do have i few clouds out there this morning but -- a few clouds out there this morning but today will be a mostly sunny day. things are quest well out to the west as well. there is a frontal boundary out there. it will make its way eastward and it will bring us some showers but that won't -- you can barely see it way out in the plains. that won't be until friday evening and friday night here in the area and even right now there is only a 0% chance of that. forecast for today and the next

and because of the glut of -- instead of having cows and pasteurs, they put in town houses. >> they put in town houses. >> and it is crazy. >> i'm glad you bring that up too. the reason the road is named after you, you were instrumental in some of the original plans for germantown. >> right. unfortunately, i'm still alive. everybody else is dead. that is true. all of the -- all those that worked with me. '74 is when we started. germantown began to develop. at that time, that i had master plan that got shuffled and shuffled but they worked very well together. that is the reason we ran into this what is called the germantown alliance. brought together the builder and all of those who were involved in all the subdivisions so that they chose what was going o the state

highway was germantown road and the highway or the byway was germantown drive and between the two, there was constant confusion. they got rid of the drive and they had nothing else to stick on the telephone pole so they put my name up there. >> now, were you surprised by that when they put your name up? >> sure. i had no reason to put mew name up. i was only part of a big group of cooperators and that is the whole reason he were listed eventually because of the tremendous cooperation that happened in that community to get the thing developed. >> you also had a parish that was locationed on -- >> that is the reason i ended up in germantown. i came out of d.c. after 25 years of priesthood in d.c. downtown. they gave me a six acre cornfield and said build it. >> and build it you did. you have a good sense of humor.

some people, this question is kind of assumes that you're no longer with us. are people surprised when they meet you and you are father hurley. >> yes, at 80 years old, i think i'm still quite with us. it depends on who you talk to. you have to admit there is a variation depending on who you talk to. that is the same thing we had in germantown when we first started. germantown was not open to the community. we're looking back at '74. blacks, catholic an jews need not apply. you couldn't buy anything in the area. that is how tight it was. then as soon as it started opening up, fortunately, i'm very much of an activist, have been for years, all my life, i guess and all 80 years of it and because of that, we started moving together as a community and we got the other two ministers who were there prior to my getting there, which were not catholic, and we started working together as three clergy men and then that thing

began to expand. so we got the community to go with us and then even the county council gave us a bad time. but they have since recanted and they said because their figures were listing children in the area, 90% and we found out when we went back to the books and went door by door that 90% was the kids. the problem was they were only expecting 20. so that blew everything up. we had to open two grammar schools in the same september. >> the growth has been phenomenal. i know it has grown in some ways that you didn't anticipate. but regardless, it is a success out there. i do want for mention, we have to wrap opportunity but i want it mention that father hurley is now the chaplain at carol manor nursing and rehabilitation center in northeast washington, still very active. you have have i marvelous voice. did he radio and testifying for a long time here. >> 13 1/2 years.

towards 370. it is a double shooting that remains under investigate and closing the northbound side of the baltimore-washington parkway north of 410. that is where the crew in sky fox is traveling between 410 and the capital beltway. you are denied access at this point. if we have those pictures from sky fox, let's pull them out. northbound side still blocked off at this time with an ongoing investigation diverting all traffic off the parkway at 410 in riverdale. delays are forting back at 450. your better bet is to plan to using alternate routes. we'll take it back inside for you. -- delays are forming back at 450. can you stick with kenilworth avenue and use that as your alternate route headed back up towards 495. southeast washington, all of your land are open. no problems to report along this stretch. inbound new york avenue leaving northeast to northwest, some heavy volume delays getting through those traffic lights. no incidents have been reported. you will also fine the outer loop of the beltway below speed. college park headed in towards silver spring. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. coming up next hour, we all
