caught a funnel cloud forming near the stafford-prince william county line as severe storms blew through the region. some cars stopped on the interstate around 5:30 yesterday with all that debris flying around. people nearby said they heard the high winds coming through. >> we saw the damage it did in the neighborhood. there was -- one of the houses has a hole in the roof where the satellite dish was. there is a broken window from a patio chair plying up and hitting it. >> it picked up a bmw, the back end of a bmw, didn't push it anywhere but it folded the trunk. >> reporter: tornadoes were reported in two other virginia counties. one twister cut a six-mile swath of destruction new western new can't county near richmond. a funnel cloud touched down in louisa county which is the same place where the earthquake was also centered back in august. >> they need to catch a break.

>> if you live in louisa county, you're feeling like what's going on? do i need to move somewhere else? >> a possible tornado in quantico. it was a dicey late afternoon, very strong thunderstorms that moved through. i know i saw some of the heaviest rain i've seen in this region for about 10 minute yesterday. could see some more thunderstorms later on today. tucker and i were talking about this. we don't expect them to be severe like they were yesterday but there is a possibility of some thunderstorms popping up again. here is a look at hd radar. right now, we are quote, unquote dry. it is not raining but again, we still have the wet road conditions. there is some fog in parts of the area and the like so we're dealing with that again. some clouds out there. not completely cloudy but some clouds. you can see there is more precipitation in areas of heavy rain to the south and west and yes, all of that is moving slowly to the north and east so

we'll get some more rain showers in here and maybe some more thunderstorms. temperatures across the region right now in the district where it is 66 degrees. 67degrees in baltimore. dulles airport, 64 degrees and it is 64 in fredericksburg. the forecast for today, we'll see a lot of clouds around. we will see partial sunshine here and there touring the day. it will be rather breezy. temperature will be into the low and mid-70s depending on where you are and there is a chance of more showers and thunderstorms later today. we'll have more on all of this coming up in just a little bit. >> can't wait to dry out from all this. that's for sure. >> let's check in with julie wright and get a look at traffic this morning. wet roads again. >> we've got somed intoing. we had that overnight along the rock creek parkway down near ohio drive, down near the kennedy center. we had reports of standing water near the memorial bridge. take it easy as you head out the front door. we had accident activity reported on the inner loop before 355 and another crash

reported on the inner loop near georgia avenue so heads up as you travel eastbound 495 in the direction of silver spring and headed over towards college park. the outer loop in better shape, no incidents to report there. northbound i-95, lanes are open leaving the prince william parkway working your way no newington. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. now to a developing story in montgomery county. where is william mcquain. that is what police want to know. the boy's mother was found dead inside their germantown home. his stepfather is now under arrest but the 11-year-old remains missing. fox 5's sherry ly joins us live from police headquarters in rockville. >> the amber alert for william mcquain remains in effect. when police arrested his stepfather in north carolina and charged him with murder, there was no sign of william. his mother, jane mcquain, was found dead wednesday night. montgomery county police say the 51-year-old was murdered in the bedroom of the germantown condo she shared with her son.

police say william had not been seen at his middle school since september 30th. his stepfather, curtis lopez was arrested at a motel in charlotte, north carolina yesterday morning. he is 45 years old and has been charged with first degree murder. mcquain's missing honda crv was found in the parking lot. police haven't given up hope of fining william. >> i tell you, i pray to god he is still alive. >> our priority, our focus right now is to locate william mcquain i don't feel police a lopez and mcquain were married but did not live together. police can't explain why it took nearly two week for someone to report the mother and son missing. when someone did, they say by that time, mcquain had likely been dead for 10 to 12 days. that is the latest here in rockville. back to you.

the family of the man killed outside the d.c. 9 nine club is now filing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit. ali mohammed died almost one year ago after an incident that, is that righted when he threw a brick through the window of the club on u street. the employees chased him and were charged with beating him. the charges were dropped when the autopsy results were inconclusive. a closer look at the man who allegedly went on a shooting spree at a beauty salon. we'll check more headlines. stay with us.  beth!

nine people were shot, eight of them killed. scott dekraai is under arrest. police say his ex-wife worked at the salon. the noonth shooting victim remains in critical condition this morning. president obama says iran will pay a price for the alleged plot to kill the saudi ambassador. he made the remark at his first public statement since the plan was thwarted. mr.obama compared iran to north korea as an international outlaw. the president flatly charmed that it was in cahoots with an iranian-american suspect. >> we also know that he had direct links, was paid by and directed by individuals in the iranian government. >> we are all finding out that the state department had direct contact with iranian officials

of what appears to be a funnel cloud forming in louisa county, virginia. yes, the same louisa county which was the epicenter of the earthquake back in august. >> some of the worst damage happened this historic plantation home. it lost part of its roof. the house dates back to 1746. that is too bad. wow! >> 1746. >> yeah. that is amazing. a lot of damage there. okay, luckily no one was hurt though out of all this. but i guess it happens. >> you know, it is strictly coincidence, the earthquake and now tornadoes but again, if you live there and you step outside and you see that cloud, you got to be like -- >> what's next? >> who has it out for us. >> what did we do? you didn't do anything. it is just coincidence. possible tornado yesterday. not possible, in louisa county, a tornado. right near quantico, kind of on

the line of stafford and prince william and i think new can't county in virginia as well. so a lot of activity yesterday afternoon. here is the good headline. thunderstorms today but the good part, drier and sunnier by the weekend. i think we'll have a decent weekend. now, having said that, i think tomorrow is going to be rather brisk, rather breezy, perhaps even windy. we'll have to deal with that. here is a look at the sentinel radar. right now, wash is dry. by that, i mean it's not raining. we do have the wet road conditions, standing water in some location. a coastal flood warning in effect for -- is it a warning? yeah, it is a warping. coastal flood warning in effect for baltimore, washington, places like that until noon today. meanwhile, off to the south and west, we have much more rain. some of this is going to come through ourier so we've got mother showers likely and we can't rule out some more thunderstorms. now, here a look at the big

picture and you can see here is what happened. a warm front came through, really warmed us up. our high at reagan national got up to 77 degrees. much higher than i thought it would get yesterday. i have to tell you that. that was a warm front that came through, warmed us up, allowed the thunderstorms to pop up and explode. out to our west now, the cold front that of a been showing you, that will be the next feature to come through here. we have more showers and thunderstorms with that. that will drop our temperatures for the weekend. forecast for today though looks like this. plenty of -- i'm sorry. temperatures first. it's early and you've been distracted. 66degrees in washington, d.c. 68 in annapolis, 67 in baltimore. dulles airport as 64 degrees. a mix of clouds and sun today. showers are likely. some more thunderstorms are possible, becoming windy. winds gusting up to 25 miles per hour. 73degrees for your high today. then for tonight, clearing

skies, much cooler overnight. 51 in town. that means some of you will be in the 40s tonight. your five-day forecast, check it out. tomorrow, decent, around 70. some of you in the 60s. but around 70. rather breezy sunday for the redskins victory over the eagles. sunshine, 71 degrees. monday, mostly sunny. late showers move in on tuesday. now, let's gypped out what is happening with traffic. here is julie wright -- now let's found out what is happening with traffic. here is julie wright. >> i like that positive thinking. now you're putting the pressure on the skins. >> a lot going on right now. waking up to wet pavement this morning. we do have some trouble spots out there. i-97 at route 100 being they have reports of the accident in the dark unfortunately. you can see the flickering lights. we do have reports this crash is involving an overturned vehicle. it is partially blocking one of the ramps from 197 to exit route 100. it is difficult to see which ramp is blocked. if this is how you travel into

work, plan your trip accordingly. that ramp, whichever direction it is, very well could tie you up. so again 97 itself will remain open but it is the ramp that is closed to exit there and route 1 hunch we'll continue without are loop of the beltway heading from the mormon temple over to 270. you can see the variable message signs out there. that is on the outer loop coming from the temple headed around towards 270. if you were traveling on the inare loop of the beltway, they were check for accident activity near georgia avenue so heads up there as you work your way from 270 headed over towards jim moran. accident activity reported here. it is out are loop stacking up as you work your way out of silver spring. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. no cell phone service, gridlock on dose streets, ten years after 9-11 and most recently after the earthquake this summer, men race dents and elected leader are asking the same question. can we adequately handle an emergency? it became the folk is of a city council hearing and matt ask land was there. >> reporter: this is cell phone

video minutes after the earthquake hit in august. downtown d.c. streets packed with people. many employers were not sure what to do and told folks to head home that. all caused a huge traffic mess. >> if everyone tries to leave at the same time, it is impossible for us to manage the traffic. >> reporter: councilmember phil mendelsohn oversees public safety. he is frustrate, even angry over the district's comminication response to the earthquake. he says it took 27 manhunt for dose's homeland security to issue a simple alert, a lot longer for the director to respond to his e-mail. >> i sent you an e-mail within an hour after the earthquake. it wasn't what's going on but it was something like that. you got back to me easily a day later. >> reporter: gridlock was also an issue last january when many were stranded in their car as a snowstorm hit. in that case, federal employees

old at a motel in charlotte, north carolina. he is now charged with first degree murder. mcquain's missing honda crv was in the parking lot but no sign of william. >> according to witnesses, mr. lopes was recently seen in the area of ms. mcquain's residence and was seen removing property from the residence and loading in t. into the victim's vehicle. >> i talked to him for about 20 minutes. just as cool as a cucumber like nothing going on. >> reporter: police say that mcquain and lopez were estranged. montgomery county schools say it is their policy, if a student is missing from school to try to contact a parent or an emergency contact but they haven't saying specifically what efforts were made to find william. it was a person who knew jane mcquain that finally reported her missing to police nearly two week after the two went
