school. a ruse he used at other churches on the same day. >> his routine seems to be gaping the confidence by going to the place under the ruse that he's a parent and allowed in at a busy time of the day and uses their distraction to take things. >> reporter: the three other churches, chevy chase baptist, chevy chase presbyterian and blessed sacrament all have the suspect's picture posted in their buildings and they're on the lookout for the church band it with the silver cruisie fix and grinch-like -- crufix and grinch-like intensions. >> this guy is despicable and doing this into the holiday season. he's done the same thing or attempted it at three additional churches in the chevy chase area. we want to put the grab on him. >> reporter: the chief can't say for certain if anything was taken at the three churches over the d.c. line but does not think the thief is an amateur and will continue the crime spree until he's caught. if you recognize him or know

anything about him, call the chevy chase village police department. audrey barnes, fox 5 news. herman cain has all but officially dropped out of the race for president. he announced he's suspending the campaign. he appeared with his wife gloria days after the allegations of a 13-year affair with another atlanta woman named ginger white. between that and four accusation of sexual harassment, she said it was too much of a burden on his campaign and the people he loved. >> i am suspending my presidential campaign because of the continued distraction, the continued hurt caused on me and my family. not because we are not fighters. >> cain still denies wrongdoing

with any of the women and said he will eventually endorse a candidate. joining me to discuss what this means for between 12 is republican strategist jack burtman and welcome to the show. thank you for being here. >> my pleasure. thank you for having us. >> jack, let's go to you. suspended campaign is a prelude to jumping out of the race altogether. what does it mean for cain? does he support someone else at this point when who -- and who benefits from it? >> not quite. he will announce that in a month or so. i have been to thousands of political rallies and had is the strangest thing i saw. the confity and banners and the rousing speech and at the end, said i'm suspending campaign. 25 years of politics, i have never seen anything stranger than today. he field me. your own john roberts said it best. he said this will be cruel and unusual punishment if he drops out for the fans and viewers. who benefits? two people. cain is a social conservative. >> uh-huh.
12:27 am
>> i think rick santorum benefits and michele bachmann. they're two social conservatives and two who need help now. >> on the democratic side, how does this play out, brandon? >> i think it became a joke, his cappedacy at the end and i hate to say that and people saw him go. john stewart and david letterman. he shouldn't have been running for president. and i just think that, you know n terms of the who benefits, maybe it's -- and newt gingrich at this point. there is a poll out tonight in iowa saying that gingrich is leading in iowa with ron paul second and mitt romney third. the gingrich is the anti-romney and, therefore, i think he benefits from it. >> let me offer you one thing. >> uh-huh. >> everyone's piling on herman cain. this business of three or four people come out, not to beat a dead horse, but three, four people come out and make unfounded accusations and say where there is smoke there is fire. i think it's fundamentally unfair. i have been the victim of
12:28 am
internet rumors and so many people on television have. >> and you would -- cain didn't help his cause with the responses to the accusations? >> and there is some incold fronty in his responses and i am not here to represent cain or not, but it's like if we walk out on wisconsin avenue and two guys on the street come up to me and say hey, i saw mitt romney sell drugs two days ago. does that mean we believe them? does it say because two people said it, there must be something to it. i think our standards have fallen in journalism. >> and there -- and can argue about the accusations of the harassment and affair, that is what did him in, but if you watch his campaign, he was not prepared to be president. look at the question on libya where he paused for an eternity and so many questions where he didn't know how to answer them. >> do you think when it's said and done, does the guy have a political future? i will give you that first, brendan and then you can
12:29 am
answer, jack. >> may be so. to be honest, i think he's a joke and will be hard for him to recover from this. >> and i agree on that. i would have advised him strongly not to quit today. he can't be anything and can't run again. there is no future. >> and you think anyone he does endorse, will that person want the endorsement or is it damage something. >> he has a bloc of support. i am sure they will take the encoarsement and at some point -- endorsement, at some point next year, they will do a quick rally with cain in georgia and take the endorsement. i don't think that it will have much impact. >> i agree. there is not much of anm pact on that at all. >> we're going to leave it at that and with herman cain, i am sure we have not heard the last of that. >> nine-9-9. >> thank you very much for coming in tonight. >> thank you. >> thank you. and meanwhile, the remaining gop presidential caat
