he received treatment from complications from a bone marrow transplant when he contracted the drug. the super bug outbreak stems from a single patient who carried the bug before arriving at the bethesda hospital last summer. the georgia woman who survived a rare flesh-eating disease is thanking her hometown for their support during her recovery. camey copeland cut her -- amy copeland cut her leg in a zip line accident and to save her life, her right leg and right foot and her hand had to be amputated to keep the disease from spreading. chris shaw was at the event and shows us how the inspirational journey is helping people in the community. as she sat onhe stage built for this event in her honor -- >> you're an amazing person. your whole family is. >> reporter: as she wrapped her arms around total strangers, who felt like they had been on the life and death journey with ler, it is hard to tell if the beauty means more to amy

copeland, and the community. or does she mean more to the community? >> does she inspire you? >> very much. i learned ho to you stay positive -- i learned how to stay positive through -- i thought i had problems but now i've seen her and i know i can stay positive through everything. >> from 13-year-old megan hinsly. >> thank you, sweetheart. >> karen belten, a woman who shares a similar story. she lost her legs and one land to a rare illness -- hand to a rare illness and she sees a university of west georgia student as a symbol. >> it gives everybody help. because everybody doesn't have this. everybody doesn't get this kind of attention. so if somebody else could see it on tv, and see that you can still function, you know, i mean that is the difference between life and death really. >> the admiration goes both ways. >> i have to say that everyone in our community has inspired me tremendously to give back. just because of how much they've gin to me. >> copeland and her family says this event was an opportunity to say thank you.

since contracting the rare virus that took her hands and parts of both leg, the community has donated thousands of dollars, a car, and even a two-story wing to her home designed specifically for her needs. >> it was so awesome to be able to come home from the hospital and have a place to stay that actually can suit me. >> and copeland seems eager to share the message so many ask her about. how she has found the courage to fight. >> and if you think i'm never going to be able to do, this you are not going to be able to do this. but if you think i'm going to be able to do this and it is hard and i will work through it one step at a time, we will make this happen and i truly believe you will. >> just ahead, the fbi does it again. thwarting another homegrown terror plot. this time in the windy city. plus controversy across the pond. after topless photos of kate middleton are released. how the royal company is handling the invasion of privacy. we'll be right back.

the white house submitting a report to congress on the possible impact of sequestration on spending programs. the cut would be severe across the board affecting military and nonmilitary budgets. another issue causing some concern, the weak labor port embassy security to be slashed. fox's peter ducci has the latest. >> the u.s. embassies get $120 million less for security and more over the next decade if it takes effect over the next year. >> and i can't overstate how much the cuts could do to our military. it will essentially hollow out the armed forces. >> many jobs are in jeopardy. others are exempt. and some military contractors are already looking to trim their staff. >> there is a requirement that employers give an advanced notice. and it would come ironically just a couple of days before

the election. >> the chairman of the senate armed services committee, democrat karl leven says the need for members of congress to compromise on a plan too to make prudent cuts and include revenue is important. and john boehner says the house passed a measure in may to replace the president's situation with common sense reforms and reducing the deficit by $233 billion. but the white house wants to remind republicans in congress that both partied voted for sequestration as a penalty for the failure of the bipartisan debt reducing super committee. >> it is been to remember that democrats an republicans voted in majorities in both houses of congress in support of this. >> if no alternative agreement is reached, the sequester kicks in january 2. and half of the $110 billion in cuts in 2013 would be to domestic programs. the other half would be to the defense budget. in washington, peter ducci, fox

news. another big story we are following tonight. fbi agents thwart an alleged terror attack in chicago. a man tried to detonate what he believed was a car bomb outside a downtown chicago bar. it was an undercover operation where agents pretended to be terrorists and provided him with a phony car bomb. fbi agents say they have been monitoring him since may after he posted material online about violent jihad attacks and killing americans. thousands of teachers gathered in chicago city park today for one of the largest rallies since the union strike began last week. union leaders were back at the negotiating table today and discussing new customer sticking points and a teacher evaluation system and union demands that teachers get preference when positions become available. if approved, the students would be back in the classroom by monday. we are following a developing story overseas where the controversy over topless
